I pick up some cream buns for a birthday get together tonight. I placed a on line order. It was fast and the cream buns were ready when I got there on the specified time and date. I couldn't resist of buying their long John's and their glazed doughnuts. So my bill was $39.00 for the buns and about $7.00 for the pastries. My husband surprised me with some goodies from here & omg 27yrs of my life living here, why have I not tried this bakery any sooner?! Upon opening the boxes, braaah these pastries are HUGE. Their glazed donuts are DELICIOUS! Texture small kine reminds me of mochi donuts but more airy (ofc it's a donut lol). The chocolate on the centered donuts, *chefs kiss*. Looked them up because I am now obsessed and a huge fan of their pastries... I wish they had the twisted glazed donut cause that's my favorite but they were sold out already hubby said, which is crazy cause he went around 8am after work!! All this for $26 which isn't bad at all considering 3 choc centered donuts from zippys are $10 AND half the size of Ani's bakery. Another great bakery here on Oahu..its a bit out of the way in an industrial area of Halawa, but worth seeking out. I always finish a loaf of store bought Ani's sweet bread when I'm here, but never tried anything directly from the bakery. Zippys and Liliha bakeries are island stand bys, but Anis is my new go to. The custard pie is creamy, perfectly sweet, slightly rich with a good crust-5star yum. Bread pudding is moist, lighter than other puddings and full of coconut shreds and raisins. Blueberry scone was the crumbly kind that goes well with morning coffee. Worth the drive, worth the price. Get there before they close at 1 M-F. Park across the street at Halawa District park and eat your goodies. read more

Stopped by Ani's Bake Shop to grab some donuts and was not disappointed! I first heard about this place when a coworker brought in some of their pastries to work, and after tasting them, I knew I had to check it out for myself. Everything I picked up was fresh, delicious, and clearly made with care. You can tell this is a place that takes pride in what they do. The staff was friendly, and the whole experience had that warm, local bakery feel you just don't get from chain spots. As much as I like supporting local kamaaina business this bakery is not it, rather go kam bakery in Kalihi. This place is a joke and one of the owners was rude telling me I shouldn't buy from them it was one lady. She straight up told me don't buy because it seems like nothing will satisfy you! I told her word gets around fast! She couldn't answer simple questions about the product and tells me the baker knows but he will get back to me next year, what a joke. Trying to back peddle questions. That is ridiculous and a bad excuse seems like they don't want any business. I tell her it's a simple question, and it takes that long to get back to me? Yikes this is more the reason why small businesses lose customers because of being unprofessional. Me being self employed I have never told a client to not buy from us and to go somewhere else. My Popo used to bake fruit cake for the holidays. As a kid, I remember the fragrance in the kitchen as it baked. While she is no longer with us, the very thought of fruitcake conjurs up great memories of my loving grandmother. I'll be honest, I don't know too many people that have an appreciation for fruitcake. Popo's secret recipe left with her unfortunately so when I attempted to bake it, just wasn't the same you know. Yelp friend Glen A. posted a picture of the holiday menu and prices. When I saw the fruitcake listed, and the price, I thought like Rod U., "you get what you pay for so indulge." Then I mentioned to another Yelp friend Li Y. that I was on the fence, not yet fully committed to a whole fruitcake and then the light went on....we'd split it and enjoy half so as to not feel pressured to eat the entire ring LOL The fruit cake is deliciously moist. The pretty cake ring is FULL of candied fruit and nuts. If you think a crumbling slice is a problem, just remember, it's FULL of candied fruit and nuts. The menu says this delicious fruitcake is laced with Brandy and maybe that's the secret in Popo's recipe. Just know it's not over powering LOL I have enjoyed their delicious custard pies, cinnamon breads, and soft rolls from this bakery over the years. This is a bakery that knows how to fill its filled pastries! If you are like me and love a good custard filling, this place is definitely for you. I'll focus on 3 main items here. First the plain glazed donuts are great! They have a light internal texture, with heavy sugar glaze. I view this as a good ratio of filler (the dough part) to glaze (the money part, lol). Second and third, the long John and the custard filled donut. Both are outstanding and the generosity of the filling is on par with some of the most generous philanthropists in the world. If you know me, you will know I am so disappointed when I get a filled pastry and more than one bite has no filling. You will never have that problem here. The filling is not for the faint of heart. You will get more than a mouthful of custard with every single bite. These pastries are always a good office snack and especially appreciated by any average rascal with a sweet tooth. read more

Their pies and pastries are awesome so I like to buy these when I need to buy a nice thank you gift for friends and family. The price of the pies went up...it's now $32.95 but when you cut it into 8 pieces, it's a little over $4 a slice. It comes out cheaper than buying a piece of pie or cake at a restaurant so don't you think it's worth it? I do, especially the Sweet Potato Haupia Pie which is oh-so-good! Today, I bought assorted pastries for my friend who always makes Mochi and Kadomatsu for me AND for our New Year's dinner. Wow such fresh buns. Had their lilikoi cream rolls...what can i say but buttery heaven. Such a simple thing but the lilikoi butter cream is truly amazing. It's not too sweet and full of flavor. It's a bit pricey $16/12 roll package but wonderful as a special treat! read more

I love the cinnamon bread! It's perfect straight out of the foil tray, or out of the oven after spreading a little butter. I like to get the cinnamon bread for French Toast for breakfast, brunch, or our annual camping trip. It's delicious, soft, and always so fresh! I know it's an available in a number of stores. However, I prefer going to the Bake Shop to be tempted by all the treats! I always leave with more than cinnamon bread, the donuts are good too! The service is always warm and welcoming. The only complaint I have is the very steep driveway of which you have to park sideways in. Be very careful in parking because you could hit the car door next to you. Discovered this place when I bought sweetbread from Costco and found out they made this special Christmas tree sweetbread do you have to order ahead of time. Received some long Johns from a friend and this was the first time trying there long Johns normally I had there breads and and they are very good but I was very surprised to see how large and tasty their long Johns were. I'm sure you will not be disappointed this is the largest long Johns I ever had it was the length of the box and wide 3 of us split 1 long john for dessert. read more

I made the mistake of going here hungry lol. I ordered everything in sight. I originally went her to get lilikoi bars. Interesting enough they were my least favorite. I expected them to taste like traditional lemon bars with lilikoi flavor. However the crust was not traditional. It was just not good. The cakes on the other hand were. Received 3 loaves of bread/ cake from a friend. I got the corn bread, guava pound cake, and banana bread. I haven't tried the cornbread yet, but when I do, I'm going toast it with butter. I'm sure it's just as good as the other two (or even better). The guava pound cake is so moist and flavorful. I can eat it plain and even cold. The place is takeout only from the outside. You just walk up to the window & tell them what you want. Their pies & cream rolls are very popular here. SOLID pastries and strict COVID protocol. You order through an intercom and pay through a basket that is passed through a window/barrier. You can still see the delicious pastries and there are a bunch of great looking stuff in window. I need to go back and try more of them. Sole purpose of the trip; to go to Ani's, or perhaps a stop on the way, but only if its convenient. Ani's is a brilliant local bakery that's been around since the 80's!. They are well known for their ono (delicious) pies. I believe the signature is the Custard Pie. ~ Custard Pie - 4.5/5 Just shy of that elusive ***** I'm surprised it didn't need to be refrigerated. Light, tasty, not too sweet or dense. Ani's isn't the cheapest of places, but it won't break your wallet either. I can't wait to return and try the rest of the menu. read more

Came here to reward myself after receiving some good job news in the morning. My aunty had mentioned the bakery as being so good that she would often take back pastries to her friends in California. I was looking at buying a butter cream roll but didn't realize they didn't come in single serve. They were way too big for me so I got a cinnamon sensation sweet bread instead. Ordered a slice of the Chocolate Haupia Cream Pie ($7.59), a slice of Sweet Potato Haupia Cream Pie ($7.59), a Poi Malasada ($2.00) and a Custard Filled Donut ($3.60). Everything tasted ok. Perhaps our choice in items were not their best. Their full pies are quite pricy and they do not offer slices of all their pies. Unsure if it has to do with demand, but it would be nice to be able to try a slice of their pies instead of purchasing a full one at almost $40 and not like it. Service. There was one person taking all the orders. They seemed very quick with preparing and serving everyone's orders. Ambiance. The interior spacing is quite small. There is not much space for people to walk through and see what is available. There is space outside the bakery that serves as an overflow. With it also being in a somewhat industrial area of Halawa, many may not even know it is there, but that is what makes it a hidden gem.
