First time stopping in! I drive by La Tour bakehouse all the time on my way to Costco, but never actually went inside. Today felt like a good day to check it out. They have a nice selection of freshly baked goods, refrigerator with premade sandwiches/grab and go, and a good selection of high-end desserts. The bake house is small, and was not crowded. I picked up the cranberry walnut bread and also Ube rolls. Both were very good. Will definitely stop by and try some other items.

Thanh Quoc Lam immigrated to San Jose, CA from Vietnam in 1979 and worked as a bus driver. He provided sandwiches made by a friend for his passengers. The sandwiches became so popular that Lam decided to start his own business selling sandwiches. Lam came to HI in 1984 and saw a growing Vietnamese population in Chinatown. He opened his 1st Ba-le Sandwich Shop in Dec. 1984. His innovation, tenacity, and passion allowed him to open 21 franchised Ba-le restaurants over the next 18 years throughout the State. He did not know how to bake bread, and instead of looking for bread sources, he knew he would be better off baking his own bread. In 2009, Lam and his wife, Xuan Chau, purchased ownerships of 80,000 sq ft of space in the Weyerhaeuser warehouse on Nimitz Hwy. It was renovated to house the La Tour Bakehouse and La Tour Café businesses, with the La Tour Bakehouse as the parent company of La Tour Café and the Ba-le Sandwich shops. This review is for the La Tour Bakehouse. The name La Tour Bakehouse comes from the Eiffel Tower, a symbol of the French influence on Vietnamese cui sine, baking products, and techniques. Executive Pastry Chef Rodney Weddle assists with the baking, as he has years of experience in baking and pastry, including being pastry chef at the Kahala Mandarin Hotel. La Tour Bakehouse reflects the artisan techniques used to handcraft the finest baked goods that are made locally daily with the best ingredients. It has further expended through partnerships with Chef Zone, Foodland, Times, and Whole Foods. La Tour Bakehouse opened in July 2024 to the public offering different kinds of breads (sweet, French, sourdough, Japanese white/wheat, pumpkin cranberry walnut, Kalamata olive, corn, croissant toast, lobster roll, etc); cookies (coconut, choc mac nut shortbread, 5 grain); lavosh; garlic crisps; sandwiches (tuna on croissant, turkey/cheese on croissant, ham & cheese on Japanese white/wheat); pickled veggies; pastries (butter croissant, vanilla custard, Valrhona choc walnut brownie); muffins (banana, choc); mochi (ube butter, milk choc). Many of these items would be available at the various farmer's markets around town. Since I like their sourdough bread, I would have to go to a specific farmer's market to get it. Now, with La Tour Bakehouse, I can easily go in anytime they're open to pick one up, which is so convenient. I didn't know, but was told that the regular sourdough has an increased tangy taste than the organic sourdough, which is good to know. Hubby picked up the choc almond croissant, and he liked it! He said lots of almonds, and the choc was not too sweet. I'm not too clear about items offered in the La Tour Bakehouse, such as sandwiches and the pickled veggies, which should be part of the La Tour Café. And why are macarons offered in the Café and not in the Bakehouse? Anywhere, seems as though some items can be offered in both places? Customer service of the one staff member there was very friendly and pleasant, she provided a lot of knowledgeable info, which was very helpful. No cash transactions. A sign is prominently placed near the front table noting 20% discount for seniors 60 and over. The interior area was spacious adequately lit, with items were displayed according to baked items. As you walk in, breads are on the left; cookies and perishables in the display case; lavosh and boxed cookies on the right; sandwiches and pickled veggies in the fridge on the far right; and cookies, muffins, and mochi on the center table. Hours of operation are daily from 7a to 7p. A few designated free parking stalls for 15 min fronting the Bakehouse are available. There are additional free spaces that are shared among tenants of the complex. Owner Lam is very grateful and humble for where he is today. When he opened La Tour Bakehouse, $260,000 of proceeds from the 1st four months of opening were donated to the HI Community Foundation which distributes funds to qualified non-profit organizations in need of funds. We look forward in returning for our sourdough bread and trying other baked items from La Tour Bakehouse! Congratulations to the Lam family for their hard work and dedication to make their dreams come true and wish them continues success in their businesses!

La Tour Bakehouse has become a regular stop for me. Why? Let me count the ways: 1. It is enroute to/from my residence and office so it's an easy stop 2. I LOVE their bread! 3. Large selection of daily baked goods 4. Nice selection of cookies and snacks (they make great gifts btw) 5. Did I say I LOVE the bread? 6. Priced less than any retail market or box store 7. Senior discount offered daily The cons: 1. Parking can be a problem depending on the time of day you decide to stop in The parking though is inconsequential against all the upshots LaTour Bakehouse has to offer. Go there! or be square! don't say I didn't tell you about their pricing!

Looking for a quick carb load or even a cookie craving? Stop by La Tour Bakehouse, conveniently located in the same building complex as La Tour Cafe! I was surprised to see the amount of different items, including loaves of bread, banana bread, muffins, cookies, and even a display case of more sweet treats! It was nice to have options other than their delicious homemade loaves of bread. We bought an ube sweet bread and some palmier cookies. Both were delicious! This place is a nice option to pick up some treats for gifts or just for yourself! Happy eating!

The best mochi hands down. I am very particular with mochi and La Tour Bakehouse did their thing with this.

La Tour Bakehouse makes some of the most delightful macarons! Each one is light, delicate and perfectly sweet such a little bite of happiness. The flavors they offer are so delicious and always hit the spot. I truly wish they would add an Earl Grey flavor one day because I know it would be heavenly here. Everything is made with such care, you can taste the love in every bite. A treat I'll happily come back for again and again!

Cruising with Donna O. she suggested we visit La Tour Bakehouse since my Dad and I had never been. I used to go to La Tour a lot while living on the island so was curious about the bakehouse. The bakehouse is quaint, quiet, and clean. A small storefront with all their packaged baked goods. You can find items like bread, pastries, manapuas, and chocolates. Easier to get them here than at the cafe. Service was good and they offer a kupuna discount every day (60+). I got the Dubai Chocolate and Ube Butter Mochi for my Dad and friend. Both items were colorful. My friend enjoyed the Dubai chocolate. La Tour Bakehouse is a great spot to stop for La Tour's popular baked goods! They're located in the same shopping center as La Tour Cafe off Nimitz with parking in the lot.

We stopped by on a Monday (holiday) since we were in the area grabbing lunch. The shop was very clean and had lots of delicious pastries and bread on display. I grabbed the mango sugar lavosh ($7) and a bag of 3 baguettes ($5). The cashier gave us a free pastry which is their chocolate croissant doughnuts. The owner? manager ? said he really liked it and it wasn't too sweet. I think I like the likikoi sugar lavosh better than the mango. The baguettes are so delicious especially when you heat them up. I put mine in the air fryer and spread butter on it. Finally the chocolate croissant doughnut was also super good! As promised it was not overly sweet. My husband and I really enjoyed it.

La Tour Bakehouse and La Tour Cafe are just a few doors apart. Don't get confused. The Bakehouse offers only baked items such as bread, buns, and cookies. La Tour Cafe serves sandwiches and drinks. We had lunch at Tanaka Saimin, my wife decided to go to the Bakehouse. We picked up raisin bread, cinnamon rolls, and butter flake buns. Typical of other Japanese bakeries. The interior was spacious, and items were neatly dispdisplayed. The service was cordial from the Japanese worker. Enjoy

Five stars because all sales are being donated to a good cause. I'm a fan of this bakery's bread and Lavosh so I figured since I was next door enjoying a ginormous bowl of saimin I'd stop and see what they had in the new bakehouse. The first things that caught my eye were the almond croissants.....almond and chocolate almond. At $5 each I wanted to try however I wasn't impressed 3/5 stars. I like my croissants more buttery and these just didn't make the grade, dry imho, I think the 12pk from Costco (plain) are by far a better made choice. Also tried the Taro pastry (think manju) and the Sweet potato pastry. I liked them more than the croissants but there just wasn't much flavor 3.5/5 stars. Got a round of their organic Sourdough bread....winner 5/5 stars. Heated it wrapped in foil and served with softened butter and the entire loaf was gone along with the shrimp curry dinner! The Manapua was a freebie, I chose pork, and it was different. The pork was a small puck with rice threads and chives mixed in and half a small hard boiled egg on top then wrapped in steamed dough. Not what I was expecting. It was flavorful but I don't think I would buy it. 3/5 stars. The shop itself is small but the space is well utilized. The cashier was very helpful and told me if I spent $40 I could get the canvas tote at no charge...since I was already at $34 I trapped those Taro & Sweet potato pastries. Love the bag 5/5 stars! Parking is fronting the Bakehouse and right next door to Party City on Nimitz. I'll be back for more of their sourdough bread...lately I just haven't been able to find a tasty sourdough but the product sold here was delicious. They also had pumpernickel which is hard to find so next time I'm getting a loaf of that to try.

Shopping in Honolulu, Hawaii... Every time I pass the "Grand Opening" sign on Nimitz Highway, I tell myself I'm going to stop in one day... and I did! La Tour Bakehouse is located between 7-Eleven and Tanaka Saimin at La Tour Plaza. The free shared parking is much appreciated! Air conditioning inside the shop was very pleasant! The shelves are covered with all kinds of breads and cookies. The table in the middle was filled with different types of scones, cinnamon rolls, almond croissants, and pastries. I saw the cute tote bag on the wall and noted that it was free with a purchase of $40 or more. I got a lot of gifts: a box of cookies a cinnamon roll an almond croissant Two chocolate almond croissants a package of garlic crisps Two containers of mochi (peanut butter and sweet potato) It was challenging to reach $40 because everything was so reasonably priced! I wanted to get a ham and cheese sandwich on Japanese bread, but it was only $3.50, and I was going to go to dinner soon... I gave the mochi to my friend's children - they loved it and exclaimed that $3.50 per container is such a good deal! I gave 3 pastries to our sacristan at church and told her that the owner's sons graduated from my alma mater! I had a chocolate almond croissant for lunch - yummy! The filling wasn't too sweet! I had some garlic crisps... they're crunchy, flavorful, and addicting! The cashier was very efficient and friendly! I even received a free manapua from her! I want to return because the proceeds go to charity! (Hawaii Community Foundation until 11-30-24)

Every morning, without fail, people gathered outside waiting patiently for pastries. No flashy signs. No gimmicks. Just quiet consistency. That alone intrigued me. By the second day, my mind was made up. I'm an early riser, so the plan was simple: go on my usual morning run and arrive before the rush. Japanese culture and craftsmanship have long fascinated me. Through close friends with family roots tracing back to Japan, I've developed a deep appreciation for the culture -- the discipline, the rituals, the precision, and the respect for process. There's a beauty in the intentional pace at which things are done. Nothing rushed. Nothing careless. This bakery embodied that philosophy perfectly. The space itself was small, modest, and aromatic. No overdesigned interiors. No influencer bait. Just the comforting smell of fresh bread and butter hanging in the air. Some bakeries hide behind elaborate architecture and presentation, but this place understood something more important: when the product is exceptional, the product becomes the attraction. The pastries ranged from playful and charming to elegant and refined. The Salt & Butter bread was an instant staple -- savory, warm, and impossibly light. The dough practically dissolved like air. Thankfully, nothing felt overly heavy, because I completely lost control of my ordering strategy. The Kobo Kuma -- a soft bear-shaped bun filled with homemade vanilla bean custard -- was perfection. Equal parts cute and comforting. The Cinnamon Roll was solid, but the Haupia pastry completely stole the show. For those unfamiliar, Haupia is a traditional Hawaiian coconut pudding found throughout Polynesia. The flavor here was subtle yet lingering, delicate without disappearing. The kind of flavor that quietly stays with you long after the last bite. Then came the Blueberry Danish -- beautiful, buttery, and perfectly sweet. I didn't even make it to the savory options this time, which honestly just gives me another reason to return. And I absolutely will -- whether back here in Hawaii or perhaps at one of their mainland locations in Los Angeles. Some places become popular because of hype. Others because of quality. This bakery earned its line.

I didn't see how long the line extended, but I knew I didn't have time to wait, so I ended up getting coffee elsewhere. A few hours later, around 11:30am, I was back in the Waikiki area and happened to be walking past Kona Coffee Purveyors. I saw there were maybe a handful of people in line, so I decided to drop in. I ended up getting a latte, black sesame kouign amann, and pandan coconut tapioca pudding. My favorite was the pandan coconut tapioca pudding which was delightfully light and not too sweet dessert. Black sesame kouign amann: A twist on the classic kouign amann. A beautiful blend of crunchy and soft. The black sesame filling adds a nice flavor. Pandan coconut tapioca pudding: Pandan pudding, coconut tapioca, topped with coconut macaroon. This seems to be a seasonal/limited item. Their desserts are from b patisserie, and they all looked soo enticing and pretty! It was a nice place to sit and leisurely enjoy coffee and pastries. I would say this place is not worth it right when they open, only because the line is soo long and it's very hectic with people fighting for seating and getting their orders in. I would recommend going later in the morning or in the afternoon to avoid the morning craze.

I don't know if I'd wait in that long line again just for those pastries. Nitro: 2/5. It was super bitter and not a good nitro at all. Drip coffee: 4/5. Nothing special but not bad. Banana chocolate croissant: 5/5. Very good. Lilikoi pastry: 3/5. Tasted good. But was not wowed. Pistachio pastry: 5/5. Loved the pistachio cream and the pastry was tasty.

Since it was their anniversary on Sunday, also got their celebratory funfetti cupcake which also like their baked goods did not disappoint. The croissant base of many of their pastries is flaky. When fresh it crunches with every bite that you take. This time around we had the cinnamon roll, mango danish which had a chocolate mochi filling, and their char siu bun. It's such a neat take to have char siu in a croissant. We are used to having it in the doughy bao bread but in a croissant, savory with a crunchy outside tastes so much better. I love sweet but this one wasn't overly sweet, who would have thought that mango and chocolate pair so well together. It's the summer months, fresh mango on pastries. It was the perfect ripeness. For the cinnamon roll, you honestly cannot forget get their cinnamon roll...It's flaky and again the frosting is not overly sweet. Can't wait to get another box of their pastries again soon.

I love Pipeline Bakeshops Malasadas! I have been to several Malasada places in Hawaii but | love…read morethere's the best for the following reasons: 1. the size of the malasadas: some restaurants tend to make their Malasadas smaller and when places do this it ruins the overall texture and quality of it. The bigger the malasadas size the more airy and fluffy and more bread layers that will be inside. 2. their malasadas always taste fresh and the same quality each time. 3. their malasadas don't feel oily or heavy at all Overall I would highly recommend this place for their Malasadas! I'm so happy to have found them. I can back multiple times on my trip. They also have other desserts too that I have yet to try. They have ice cream, cakes, and other desserts Also tip: if you are ordering a malasada also order a coffee or a matcha drink to go with it. The cinnamon sugar from the malasada just matches so perfectly with a drink this restaurant is also a nice place for walking! There's lot of stores and restaurants to walk around! I'm trying to remember but I think there was a book off that was not too far from here! If you either drive or maybe walk. Service: staff was super helpful and friendly while I was there. I was having an issue with my online order because my phone was being glitchy and they were so nice in helping :) Also wanted to note their branding is so cute!! They even sell merch items too

However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. FOOD - 4 stars... the malasadas were good, but that ube dessert was next level AMBIANCE - 4 stars...really a takeout operation with a lot of temptations SERVICE - 4 stars...very calm and orderly TOTAL - 4 stars...yet another spot for sweet Hawaiian decadence RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? I'm happy to see a local business thriving but I hope they can improve their customer flow. The baked goods looked as inviting as always but they seemed a day-old or something. The butter horn was hard and not flaky as I've come to expect and the chocolate of the Boston Creme donut wasn't creamy. They may wish to consider: 1, Clearly delineating the line for the restaurant from the bakery. It was super busy for both so there was a lot of confusion. 2. Perhaps placing the number machine for the bakery closer to the door? Tourists aren't familiar with the system so it leads to some unnecessary dissatisfaction. 3. The staff had to leave the counter to get coffee - hot or iced. The condiments for the coffee were on the showcase so people had to be in everyone's way to get their sugar and cream. In fact, if you were standing near the door you had to go through people waiting in line back into the establishment to get those items. But, with all this, the two ladies at the counter were remarkably composed and helpful.
