We've been here many times and always had great service. I don't know what the owner had up her but she was irritated and not having it this past time. THE OWNER was rushing us to make a selection, we have 3 daughters and each wanted to try something new. THE OWNER kept rolling her eyes at us while making the order. It's ok. Unfortunately, those photos must have show the layout pre-covid. Now, this place is much smaller and has only 2 bar stools (almost no seating, and definitely not a good place to study). Located at Aiea Town Square, Tea Cafe is in the same building as Golden Wheel Restaurant... just a couple of doors down, and next to a vape shop. Shared parking is free in this hilly area. Just drive carefully along the curvy inclines! Inside, the shop is cozy with lots of snacks and some merchandise on shelves. There were only two counter seats. Most customers do takeout while I hung around for the 2pm special of the week: watermelon smoothie. I thought: "Gosh... I need watermelon for my upcoming blood donation!" What perfect timing! There were about four staff making drinks, taking orders, and keeping things moving! They handled the crowds well! My watermelon smoothie was perfect! I was in the mood for something refreshing and since I was in the Aiea area, I found this gem on Yelp. It is located in the Aiea town center. Their menu has smoothies also and different types of tea, but I opted for their signature milk tea. The large was $5.00 - pretty good price. If you want other things like boba or jelly, it costs more, but I just wanted the milk tea. I liked that the tea wasn't bitter since the person at the counter said their signature is pre-mixed. I've only been here once so may come back to give it another try but I wasn't impressed with my drink. I ordered the winter melon milk tea with boba at 25% sweetness and less ice. I was going to ask for no ice but the workers said that it may be too sweet without adding ice so I did light ice. However, when I drank it, it seemed diluted to me. (9/2023): First day on the island and already needing my boba fix. Lots of boba to choose from. I had the signature milk tea with boba and my sister had the Hong Kong style milk tea with grass jelly. No sweetness level specified, but I thought the sweetness levels were perfect. Boba texture was on point, but a bit bland. I guess I've been spoiled by all my brown sugar/honey boba at other places. Still, they nailed the texture. The pina colada was so refreshing and yummy! Service was friendly and welcoming. They also had some desserts (waffles and cheesecakes). Decided to give this place a try on 1/15 since I was craving boba and one of my old coworkers posted about them before so I thought I'd give them a try. While the employee that took my order was double checking with me that she input everything I asked for there was another employee that ended up coming to the front and started working on my order so by the time I was done paying & getting my stamp card I waited probably a minute and my order was already done and I was out the door! Definitely feel that I got lucky since there was only 1 person in line by the time I got there and they were already ordering by then. I will say try not to take too long to drink whatever tea you order because the ice will melt and water it down but other than that it was delicious and I can definitely see myself going again! read more

Stopped by this boba place today after going to USPS. There was a sign saying they were short staffed and I only saw two workers but they were both so efficient and friendly! I ordered the hong Kong milk tea with regular boba and the oolong milk tea with coffee jelly, both 75% sweetness. Both were good! I think I liked the oolong milk tea better as it has a stronger tea flavor. The coffee jelly was also nice and soft, not too chewy. Boba was decent too. The milk teas are made with dairy free creamer, but for other drinks, milk alternatives are available for an additional charge. It's a relatively small shop. They have a few indoor bar seats along the wall, good to sit and drink tea but not so much for studying. They also provide stamp cards, so don't forget to grab one at checkout! Ordered the Açaí Bowl with honey ($13.00). Everything tasted fresh. There were fruit pieces, part of the trail mix, that became hard and difficult to chew once it mixed with the cold items. Also, there quite a few chunks of ice that weren't completely blended. The portions were quite small for the price. Service. The server was very polite and helpful in taking and making our order. Ambience. The location is small but works well for the type of items served. Drove from Wahiawa to get us some bubble waffle and boba. We were excited! Big let down on the bubble waffle that tasted like premixed artificial batter that was like a powder and water. I was hoping for a rich, crispy waffle with hints of butter and vanilla (like Happy Lemon), but boy oh boy were we let down. It was sort of like plastic and quite over cooked. A far cry from anything remotely tea but it's good, expensive but good. You can substitute the whole milk for soy or almond for an additional 50¢ but worth it if you're lactose intolerant. They seem to have the same menu as most other tea places but they do offer those cute bubble waffles or egg puffs, shave ice and my personal fav the Taiwanese snow. This place is located in the lower part of Aiea Shopping Ctr two doors from Golden Wheel. Plenty of parking fronting or in the lot depending on the time of day. During Covid, I and my husband found this place and I love here! Because, 1) can chose drink size, 2) can chose sweeten level, and 3) many variety of choice on the menu!!!! It's been a while to come here this time, and it was first time to get inside (under the covid, they took order at the entrance door and only to go), it's cozy but clean and fun. There are lots of Asian snacks in the the shelf on right side. I ordered medium Hong Kong Milk Tea 25% sweetened, my husband ordered large Kinako Milk Tea 50% sweetened with boba. And also we ordered Bubble Waffle. When we were told it would take about 10 minutes for the Bubble Waffle, we decided to have sit the counter table and wait. Shortly our drinks were ready. It's a mango smoothie with chomoy and li hing plus I added boba. I loved the combination of flavors. Service was quick. Ambiance is nice. If you know Aiea Town Square which isn't square at all the winding parking path are very confusing if you're like me who don't know the are very well and is a whole another review in itself lol! The struggle of inventory and space seems to be real here as almost half the space was auspiciously hidden by some asian screen dividers on one side that seemed to once occupy some seating is now storage while the other is a shelf with a few knickknack items for sale and some bar counter seating. Their menu is quite vast everything from the usual Milk Tea, Smoothies, Shakes, Frappe even some purple rice yogurt which is nice but what I'm searching for is some fruit tea though for them is "Flavored Tea" kudos for them as it means syrups though I do love the choices of "Black, Jasmine, Green or Spring" teas available along with a decent selection of add ons. I did want to try a couple of items...Mixed Fruit Tea and Peach Tea both with Spring Tea, 25% and light ice...they don't do zero added sweetness and the Mixed Fruit Tea for me personally was SWEET! The Peach was as well but much more subtle. They do have three sizes to choose from all are great sizes especially if you have little ones which depends on what you order the prices are pretty good from $2.75-$10.50. Pairing with your drink they have sweets like Egg Puff Bubble Waffle, Toast, Cheesecake and Acai Bowls. Still a favorite neighborhood boba shop. I still enjoy Tea Cafe as I did when I last reviewed this place four years ago, but it's also had some changes--the cafe hasn't been open for indoor seating since the pandemic, and I have a new favorite drink, winter melon milk tea! I go to specific boba shops for specific drinks, and Tea Cafe is definitely my go-to spot for the winter melon milk tea. I've tried this same drink at another local boba chain, and theirs was too watery and bland. A couple other spots say lowering the sweetness of their winter melon drinks means lessening the winter melon flavor. Tea Cafe's winter melon milk tea at 50% sweetness still had the right amount of winter melon flavor. I let my husband have that drink, while I had a Hong Kong milk tea for myself. I wish we switched drinks! It's not that the Hong Kong tea wasn't good, but the winter melon milk tea was amazing! The cafe still uses stamp cards (after 10th drink/stamp, a drink up to $6 is free). Really good spot for dessert after dining at or getting takeout from Young's Kalbee, Pho Time, Queen Street Cafe, or any neighboring restaurant! read more

Popping bobas are red and blends right in drink color. My son wanted to show in this photo how popping boba appears on its own. My internal thoughts, "Where are the damn bobas? They just blend right in with the strawberry spring tea. Can barely see popping bobas in the beverage." 4/5 We encountered straw issues. Purple rice clung onto the inside of paper straw during last few sips. When I sucked on the other end of straw, purple rice almost went down wrong pipe. My son noticed paper straws are huge with what appeared to be a wider opening and there were a few times popping bobas stopped midway in his straw. The two times prior we picked up feom here, we noticed the owner started putting maybe 3/4 of an inch less milk tea. The owner said that's how they do it if you don't order with ice. I told her, this only started happening the last two times we came there. She proceeded to say who was the worker that would fill the cup to the top I guess so she could correct them. I told her she was the one who would prepare our drinks. I informed her she's shorting us about 4 oz of tea, so it's a 28 oz drink. Since she insisted thay leaving a space is standard, I asked to redeem my 2 loyalty cards for a free drink because we would not be returning...2 loyalty cards that show I went there at least 20 times. Mind you, I've previously redeemed loyalty cards and had another one I was working on. My friend was surprised the owner was willing to lose a loyal customer over 4 oz of water. They look to be mostly take out right now, as half the shop is occupied with boxes, but there are a few seats available on the right for you to sit while waiting for your drink to be ready. My bf got the coffee frappe again (good choice) while I had to give my usual boba go-to a try. So I got my jasmine milk tea with boba -50% sweetness. It was disappointing. The tea itself tasted watered down (not much tea flavor) and the boba while chewy didn't have much flavor. I like boba that has a slight sweetness to it when you chew it. You know how sometimes you go to a certain place for certain orders? Like how if I crave country fried steak, I go to My Cafe in Kapolei? If I want a coffee frappe, I'll go to Tea Cafe. For a change in environment, I decided to try out Tea Cafe in Aiea in hopes of finding a new study spot and awesome milk tea. They sell a variety of drinks ranging from milk tea to fresh fruit smoothies to coffee--just like all other milk tea shops. What did stand out to me was that they had a large variety of toppings available. Besides drinks, they also sell shave ice, Chinese french toast, egg puffs, and other pastries. Drinks-- I ordered their signature milk tea ($4.25) with regular boba which they claimed to be their #1 Bestseller. For something that was supposed to be "signature", it was pretty standard with nothing all that special about it. Personally, I enjoy having a stronger tea flavor in milk tea, but I wasn't able to get that in this milk tea. I also thought that the milk tea was a bit too sweet for my liking but I don't have much of a sweet tooth in the first place. The boba was slightly chewy and nice to bite into, but it would've been better if it were chewier. I also found that as the more I drank the milk tea, the more sugar would coat my mouth. Service -- The ladies working there were very nice and kept a smile on their face when greeting customers. I sat in the shop for a good 5 hours studying and found that they were courteous by not making any loud noises or disturbances other than when they were making drinks. I really appreciated that! Ambiance-- Their cafe arrangement was very unique. In one corner they have these elaborate chairs and tables for large groups to hang out. On the other end, they also had simple square tables for parties that wanted more peace and quiet to study. Overall, Tea Cafe was not a bad experience and I would recommend it if you live in the area and didn't want to drive the extra 1-2 mile to milk tea chains like Taste Tea in Pearlridge Center or Tea Time. read more

Go between 1p- 4p to get $2 off your second drink! the HK Milk Tea had a deep tea flavor which i loved and was perfect at 75%, while the custard made it a little sweeter. the Almond Milk Tea tasted REALLY artificial and had a bitter and powdery aftertaste. I think it had a lot of potential since it tasted like the Chinese almond pudding that I love at restaurants. The boba was soft and chewy which i really liked Even with the $2 off the two drinks were a little less than $10 which i think was a bit expensive for the quality. Always down to try somewhere new, and I just happened to find this little shop randomly on Yelp. My friend and I went over to check it out during their happy hour between 1-4pm. It's located in the smaller building of Aiea Town Square, facing towards the main road. There's ample parking that won't ever be a problem. But lot in front of the shop was currently renovating (October 2021) when I went. I got the oolong milk tea with azuki beans and 50% sweetness. The tea was surprising really good! Lots of tea flavor which I really liked. The azuki beans weren't that good tho... they were super hard which I wasn't used to. Felt like they should have been cooked a little longer. Sad. My friend got the double ube smoothie which was really really good. Super creamy with lots of ube flavor. Both drinks were really good overall! Will definitely be back! P.S. Happy hour of BOGO $2 off daily from 1-4pm on teas or milk teas! Offer didn't apply if when we got a smoothie and a milk tea. Gotta get both drinks as a tea or milk tea. Darn. 7-15-21 first time here after looking up shave ice on Yelp. As we were finding parking, saw a couple waiting. By the time I got close, they were leaving with one small bowl. I asked him what's good at Tea Cafe? He showed me his bowl and said I like this. What is it? He said snow. There are photos of milk teas and other beverages plastered on the outside of their business. I waited at the barricaded doorway but no one came. There was a sign saying call a number to order. I was just calling when a girl appeared. Mango snow please. We only have strawberry. Okay. Want any toppings? I chose pudding and taro. ( toppings are 50 cents additional per choice) She places the iPad in front of me for tips. Thankyou she says. She disappeared. I heard no noise. You couldn't see from the slightly closer doorway but a blurred figure. It took a while then she reappeared with my order. The texture of it reminded me of Snow Factory which recently closed in Mililani. The bright pink snow turned pastel-y from the condensed milk with bright orange pudding looked pretty. I saw one chunk of taro on the side and a few smaller pieces hidden under the snow. It was a good refreshing treat, it looked tiny to hubs but it was reasonable for the price. It didn't matter if it was less than $10 minimum, plastic was accepted. I wonder how long your wait would be if it was for more than one item? It's nice to know they are here. There's many parking stalls but may be filled since the lot is shared by MANY businesses. If you're in the vicinity, treat yourself to something cold that will hit the spot. read more
