Finally got to try Anise Vietnamese Cuisine. Anise is located in of course yet another strip mall in Cherry Hill. Actually this strip mall has been there awhile and is right across Kings Highway from Kingston Estates, where I grew up. We ordered two staple dishes for us, Pho and the Vermicelli Bowl. The Pho was very good and a large portion. The broth was developed and flavorful. I really liked the Vermicelli Bowl also. It came with springs rolls and we added Chicken as our protein. This was also very good and we really liked the ingredients and sauce. I only wish they had a Vermicelli special option as some other Vietnamese restaurants have. We had the banh mi and the pho. In this area there are a few Vietnamese restaurants and a couple have much better flavored pho. The banh min was not bad but still lacked flavor. The place was empty on a Saturday. The service was very good but the flavors were missing. read more

This is our 9th Pho spot in South Jersey. It's definitely better than the other spots we've tried (they may be tied with Pho Asia). However, it's still weird to me that they don't leave the condiments on the table (such as soy sauce, fish sauce, and hot oil). They had the generic version of Sriracha on our table but we saw other tables with the authentic kind so we grabbed it from the other table. We ordered: 2 pho deluxe, grilled beef grape leaves, 2 Vietnamese iced coffees and a rice dish with chicken. Total came to $87+ The pho was good. The broth needed a little fish sauce but better bland than salty. The grape leaves were good but I'm used to getting spring roll wrappers to wrap them in. The iced coffees were too creamy. Not sure if they used condensed milk but it wasn't what I was used to. The place itself is very cozy. Great customer service. Plenty of parking because it's in a plaza. read more

I AM SO HAPPY THAT A PHO PLACE OPENED NEAR ME! Especially with the cold winter coming up, I'll be coming here often for my pho fix. I usually drive to Pennsauken so this will be nice and they have banh mi's which are great I started with the grilled pork summer roll, oxtail and brisket pho and pork banh mi. Summer roll 5/10: wayyyy too many noodles i need more vegetables in there and meat Pho was good, broth was a little bland, I need more depth but it got the job done. Good amount of meat Banh mi was the star for me! Great bread and perfect fillings I also got the $7 frozen coffee thing that was not good. It tasted like chocolate milk. All in all, this place will do for me when I have a pho craving and it did jUST open so I have faith that they'll work out their kinks and become my new fave local spot. I love trying new Vietnamese restaurant especially for their pho. I got the pho with tenderized steak for $19 which is pretty pricey but considering it's steak, I thought it might be worth it. Well, it wasn't. When it arrived the first thing I thought was "this isn't mine" but I looked at my two friends who got the same pho and it looked the same so I figured that's just what the tenderized steak pho looks like. I stirred around and noticed a bunch of beef briskets and thought it was strange and after taking a few bites I realized I could have just gotten a pho tai for much cheaper for the same experience. Although the meat wasn't spectacular, the broth was good and the noodles were prepared well. The service was great and my water was always refilled in a timely manner. The ambiance is well lit and is a good spot for lunch. Although Anise sits lower in my power ranking for pho, I still enjoyed the friendly service and warm atmosphere. *BONUS: try the chicken satay skewers, they are tender and delicious and is packed with flavor read more

It was OK. I am still wrapping around my head that 2 spring rolls the size of a fat pinkie each was $6.99. I ordered the vermicelli bowl with grilled pork. I asked for it to be crispy. It wasn't. Tastewise, it was decent, but the extra crispiness of grilled meat would've elevated an otherwise just OK dish. I tasted my dining partner's pho with brisket. Nice, but I've had better. Huge portion for a very reasonable price. The bún đậu tray is like almost 3 times my face and I was very surprised of how big it is when they bring it out. Their chả cốm is really delicious. Tofu, pork belly, and dồi are okay. Bún bò (spicy noodle soup) is yummy as well! The restaurant is kinda hard to find tho. The rice platter came with an egg quiche that was too dry & did not have any flavor to it. Other than that part, it was okay. The wings were sitting in a box full of oil and onions & peppers causing it to be very soggy by the time I picked it up. The wings had no flavor to it, just oil. NOTICE TO people who are NOVICE to Viet to-go food : When you order Pho, they will give you completely rare slices of eye-of-round beef in a ziploc bag. That is normal. You're supposed to heat up the broth in a pot to boiling, then pour the broth over the rare beef to cook it. The rare beef is NOT to be consumed raw. I guess they should put some instructions for non-Viets. 3.5 stars - Ok place, there's more authentic Viet restaurants nearby Service is great, fast, polite, and knowledgeable about menu. The decor is basic modern, restaurant decor a clean. As for the food : Chicken bone-in pho has good broth. Fragrant. The chicken is made from frozen chicken though, but they cook it to their best ability. It's not totally mealy or bad, but it lacks the toothy stretch texture of freshly processed chicken (walking chicken, as Viet people would call it). Definitely not on same level as say, Pho Ga in South Philly. If Pho Gà TT is a 9/10, this pho ga is probably a 7/10. Bun Bo Hue - Spicy Hue beef noodle soup. It's too fishy and fermenty for my taste. I like authentic flavor but even for better restaurants, they don't make it as fishy and stinky. It lacks the fragrant lemongrass smell and flavor, just too much fermenty smell. Lotssss of beef but I think they should concentrate more on the broth. Chicken Satay - big 4 skewers of chicken breast. Marinade is good, but i would prefer they use chicken boneless thighs. Since the breast meat's texture can be dry and mealy. Overall I feel like they Americanize the ingredients so it's more readily available (frozen chicken, chicken breast). In terms of the Bun thit Nuong, I wouldn't recommend it. Very basic dish but I thought the cuts of pork were weak and perhaps not grilled convincingly. Overall very average. My mistake. Had Bun Bo Hue a few times here and my wife and I both liked it a good bit. I'd go as far as saying it's the best local spot for BBH. Very oily but still good. Also I'd just recommend leaving the menu in Vietnamese rather than English (or do both) because to some degree you're adding unnecessary confusion to the Vietnamese people who likely make up a fair share of the customers. read more

We went to the just opened Anise in Del Mar. Due to tastes and diet restrictions, there was quite a variety of food at our table. I loved the Vermicelli platter, good very fresh food. The friend with the Pho was quite pleased and my spouse had his beloved fat noodles (not sure it is officially on the menu-but the waiter helped).
