Worst customer service.... Orders not first come first serve... we ordered chicken lollipop and mutton biryani.... There were a lot of people who ordered Mutton biryani.... They bought lollipops, 3 pieces were fine and the other three didn't even have any muscle to it (left bottom one in the picture is an example).... After 50mins we saw them getting some other food and giving to other people who were seated after we completing our lollipop and they mentioned them that they are out of mutton biryani and they gave them some other biryani , same thing happened with other tables.... We waited for another 10mins (we were thinking that they were getting us biryani as we ordered before all other tables) The table next to us were yelling at him saying that they have been waiting for 1hr for the mutton biryani and he said he is out of it and got them chicken biryani.... They came after they getting replaced orders for all other tables and told us that they are out of mutton biryani.... They asked us not to pay for chicken lollipop and 2 lassis that we have ordered but we paid for those as we didn't want to have free food from someone who is so disrespectful.... I would not want to go to that place again! Also saw so many reviews saying they are amazing and stuff like that.... I've been here twice now and have been impressed each time! The owner was kind in explaining what we needed (quantity wise). We ordered and the food came out within 10 or so minutes! We ordered the mysore masala dosa, which was very flavorful and the chutneys were INCREDIBLE, we cleaned the plate! We also ordered the chicken 65 biriyani family pack, which also came with an appetizer and desert. Compared to another place that also makes this biriyani, we can attest that this one simply takes the cake in terms of flavor!!! 12/10. We also got the Malabar parotta, chettinad chicken masala and the mutton curry (recommended by the owner). We went through the mutton curry very quickly, it was simply incredible and very soft. We will be recommending Anjappar to all of our friends, give it a shot and you won't be disappointed!!! read more

A very pleasant surprise! I think maybe the management has changed but we stopped by on a whim and the food was just great. We got the varaval mutton with appams, chicken biryani, lollipop chicken, and a chicken curry. All excellent. Then because the meal had been so good tried the desserts: gulab jamun, the pineapple halwa, and a drink sort of like a thandai. All wonderful. The people were very friendly and though some of the items took a little while to come out, I am more than happy to wait for such good quality and delicious food. The space is very nice as well, the booths very confy and a generally good atmosphere. Felt like 2 happy hours spent back home in India, which is priceless. Thank you!! read more

Absolutely disgusting experience. Went with family on a weekday for dinner and deeply regretted it. Ordered kothu parotta and chicken biryani -- both were shockingly bad. The food was clearly old, stale, and looked like it had been reheated multiple times. No salt, no flavor, no effort -- just dry, bland, miserable food slapped onto a plate. It felt like eating leftovers pulled from the trash. I've never seen Anjappar sink this low, especially in the US . Avoid the Anjappar San Diego location at all costs -- a complete embarrassment to the Anjappar brand. read more

If you want to try out the best Indian food in San Diego, come here! It just opened up five minutes from our house and I can't be more ecstatic! Honestly, everything was really good and perfectly spiced Gobi Manchurian- loved the spice and that it was not too sweet. Chicken lollipops- kind of tastes like karaage with Indian spice. Perfectly fried and spiced Chicken 65 biryani- I love that the chicken 65 wasn't too saucy and was boneless on top of the rice. Probably the best biryani I've had in a while Anjappar chicken masala- one of the best chicken curries I've had in a while. Get this one! Tandoori chicken- came sizzling and was beautifully spiced and cooked. Almost as good as the one from Charminar which is my fave tandoori chicken in SD. Chettinad veg kurma- probably my least fave dish of them all but I liked it the next day as leftovers so it was still pretty good. Garlic naan and parathas were really good! For dessert: Pineapple kesari- great texture and taste, highly recommend Jigarthanda- yummy and nutty drink. Pretty unique Falooda- ice cream sundae. Pretty good but I think the one at cake korner next door is yummier My friends got chai and mango lassi and loved it. I'll be back for sure! Service was great and food was amazing. Great for when you have a cold or you just want Tamil comfort food. 2) Ceylon Chicken Parotta - this was really good. I would definitely order this again and try the mutton version next time. I've been to the Anjappar in Artesia. I'm very particular about my Indian food and very specific about my biriyani. We got 3 things. Mutton bone soup, Chicken Dum Biriyani and Vavvaal Varuval (Pomfret) Mutton bone soup - It's good. 4/5. It's exactly what I expected and for a great price point. It is not spicy but it is very spiced. If I ate this while sick I think it might immediately cure my congestion. If you can't handle non capsaicin spice then this isn't for you but it's well worth it and I'd get it again. Chicken Dum Biriyani - Very spicy. 3/5. The rice texture isn't great. It's a little clumpy. I can't even tell if this basmati rice. If it is, it was either soaked too long or cooked with too much water. The chicken is good but not tender enough as some other nearby locations. I'm not a fan of raw onions as garnish. It's something I noticed was garnish for the fish and also was in the raita. It's just not great. I know many others love raw onions but as garnish I'd much rather they are caramelized. Also I hate eating biriyani only to be interrupted by biting down on cloves or cardamom every couple bites. I would understand if it was my mother's cooking but if I'm supposed to take a restaurant's "high quality" $18 biriyani as it's advertised, I would hope to not be biting into pockets of spice. Use a spice bag maybe. I'm not sure how other restaurants do it but it's very very rare that it's an issue. Overall it's a very expensive biriyani for 2 pieces of chicken and a lot of tomato rice. It can't be compared to the nearby Paradise Biriyani Pointe (which offers more chicken and better flavors for a cheaper price) or Hyderabadi House. I am most disappointed by this dish especially as someone who has had Hyderabadi dum Biriyani in Hyderabad. I believe in Anjappar's potential to be signfiicantly better in this category. Pomfret - Very tasty. Very tender. Very flavorful 5/5. I believe a lot of people will find it worth its price at $18. I wish it came with rice. It's worth going to this place especially for that Pomfret. I think plenty of people will enjoy eating here especially once they expand their menu to all the amazing food they have at their Artesia location. The food was great. We went in for Lunch on Sunday afternoon. There were a few tables we ordered the AAppam with Veg curry and one AAppam with egg curry. Both were great. We ordered a mushroom 65. It was great. We also ordered a Mysore masala dosa and a Rava masala dosa. The chutneys and sambar were good. The service was good. Liked what we tried. There are not so many options for vegetarians compared to meat eaters. I tried paneer 65, which is my favorite. Thier aapam Ceylon parotta and veg kurma combo is good. But I am sad that they don't offer kal dosai with ennai kathrikai combo. Instead, they just give sambar. They give kal dosa combo with meat gravies like that they should do for veggie gravy combos, too. Wish they include more veggie combos like these :) read more

Magnificent Chettinad food!!! The service was great since the staff were constantly working and making sure the customers were satisfied. The food as also EXTREMELY FRESH. To start it off, I got Chicken 65, which is one of their best appetizers. The chicken was really tender and fresh. The Anjappar masala coating made it even better. My personal favorite is the Signature Mutton Dum Biryani. It was absolutely fabulous. The mutton was so tender and flavorful that it made me want to order more. My other favorite is also Paneer Butter Masala! I love paneer and this dish is perfect with the garlic or cheese naan. The naan was so buttery too. To top it all off I got a Jigar Thanda and Rasamali. The Jigar Thanda was really refreshing. The ice cream in it made it even better. The Rasamali was also better than any other.
