I ordered the chicken and beef combo which came with rice and salad. I liked the rice and salad but not a fan of the meats. I should have opted for the gyro which looked tasty. I tried the chicken shawarma, it was seasoned well. I liked the hummus and pita. The pita was very soft and warm. The baklava was a great dessert, it had a perfect amount of nuttiness. Parking was plenty since it was in a shopping center.

Go here. Just do it. Trust me. Order ANY type of meat and you won't go wrong. Their chicken shawarma and rice is what I get every single time and I will most likely never stray. I could live off this stuff. The flavoring, the rice. THE SALAD. They always give me extra sauce when I ask and they never charge me. The service is spectacular. So nice. Genuinely will tell you what to order depending on what you like and always have the best recommendations. Thei chicken is the best thing in the world. I will have them cater my wedding. No matter what. This place is my #1 in San Diego and has been since the first time I tasted that chicken and their sauce. The inside is such a great place to eat and relax and friends and coworkers. Go here. Do it. Trust me.

Can't believe we waited so long to eat here and I cannot wait to come back. The potato bolani was plenty to share and also great leftover. Both sandwiches were delicious and will definitely be trying more options next time.

I placed a pickup order and was pleasantly surprised by how easy parking was, there were plenty of spots available. I ordered the fries and a falafel sandwich. The fries were generous in portion and really tasty. The falafel sandwich was flavorful, though it could have used a bit more sauce. Overall, it was a solid experience, and I'd rate it around a 3.5.

It's been a while since I've written a review and I've gotta say this place knocked my socks off! It was outstanding in every way. The service was amazing...everyone was super kind and helpful. They even helped us get my mom situated with her walker without asking--it was like second nature to them. The prices are incredibly reasonable especially considering the high quality of the food and the very generous portions. The lamb shank literally fell off the bone and melted in my mouth. It was seasoned to perfection. The rice was so flavorful and even the salad dressing complimented the meal and the veggies were fresh. The bolani was delicious and warm and comforting....I look forward to returning and trying the potato version. My friend had the Gyro which was a flavor explosion and my mom had the chicken kabob. I was most impressed with how tender and juicy the chunks of white meat chicken were--how did they do that? Clearly they cook with love and it shows. I don't have any interior pics but it was a small bright space with maybe 5 or 6 tables. I'm already planning my next visit--hope to see you there!

Heard a lot of hype about this place from my friends and it lived up to expectations. We ordered the chicken kabob, beef kabob, and potatoe Bolani. The rice portions are gigantic here! Highlights for me were the chicken and bolani. I have no idea how they got the white meat to be so moist and tender! The bolani was absolute fire - so addicting. We enjoyed it with the included white sauce. Service is so friendly, felt like we were dining at a family run establishment. The workers checked in with us several times to ask if the food was ok. This is rare for a fast food shop and much appreciated. I will certainly be back!

Love this place! The meats (chicken, beef, lamb, etc.) are always grilled perfectly (moist and tender). Service could be a little more friendly. But if you want a quick and healthy bite, Baba Kabob is the place to go.

I came here around 1 PM on a Tuesday. It's in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Even though they were fairly busy, I didn't have to wait at the counter to place my order. I ordered the chicken and beef kebab combo, which came with a generous portion of rice and a salad. The kebabs were incredibly tender and cooked perfectly, with great flavor. The dipping sauces were excellent, and the salad was very fresh. Our food came out in under 10 minutes, and the portions were large enough that I had to take half to go. The employees were friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely be back.

The best afghan food in San Diego. The amount they give you is plenty to keep you full for hours and the food is so flavorful, and the price point is super fair it is definitely worth a visit. It is family owned and they are hospitable and the service is fantastic. My new go to spot for this type of food!!!

Wanted to try someplace new and a cusine I wasn't too familiar with. Glad I started here! The restaurant is pretty unassuming and is setup like most others in the area - counter service and a decent amount of seating. The person at the register was prompt and kind. We got the baba kabob sandwich (one spicy, one regular) and an order of chive bolanti. The sandwich is STUFFED but the flavors and portions are well balanced and work. The chive bolanti is great and simple, like naan with less air. Overall, would come here again for sure if the craving hit.

BEST CHICKEN SHAWARMA IN SAN DIEGO! All caps because I really am yelling at you. I'm usually a die-hard gyro person and am usually confident that the gyro is 10x better than the chicken shawarma, but this is the first time that I will concede that standing. the soft pita is massively stuffed with chunks of tender and juicy chicken which is perfectly seasoned. A delicate sauce drizzled over it and a generous portion of crisp and fresh veggies adorns the top. The insides are so full that you'll probably need the provided spoon to scoop up the bits that fall out. dont get me wrong - I really enjoyed my gyro sandwich, which I added feta (pro tip). The meat was juicy, well seasoned, and a perfect ratio of meat to veggies. The soft pita really hit the one home, it was too good I didn't want to put it down between bites! I will absolutely be back to this place. Next up will be their kabobs! if these first two items were any indication of their quality, I know I'll be impressed with the kabob... I mean, it is their namesake, right?

Since we were going to be in Hillcrest, we chose Khyber Pass - and wow, what an incredible decision. This was easily some of the best food I've had in a very long time. We started with the Bolani. Absolute perfection. It had a beautiful crunch, perfectly seasoned filling, and none of that sogginess I often run into with Bolani elsewhere. We could've ordered another plate and been thrilled. Next came the Aushak with ground beef: one of my all-time favorite Afghan dishes. Think of it like delicate leek-filled ravioli topped with savory meat and tangy yogurt. It hit all the right notes. We also shared the Kofta Kabob, served with grilled vegetables and fluffy basmati rice. The seasoning was spot on, and the meat was juicy and tender, similar to Persian koobideh, but truly memorable in its own way. Our server recommended the Afghan Yaghoot Chalao (Cherry Curry) with chicken. Yes, cherries! Sweet, sour, rich, bright. I had to resist the urge to literally lick my plate clean. And then: the Qabuli Palao with lamb. I do not like lamb. My friend loves it, so I agreed...and I'm so glad I did. I genuinely loved this dish. The saffron-coriander rice with carrots and raisins was aromatic and comforting, and the lamb was tender and flavorful. If you're hesitant about lamb, trust me, this dish might convert you. Portions were generous, we came hungry, and still left with leftovers. I also ordered the house-made Doogh, a mint yogurt drink. It's not for everyone, but it's pure comfort to me. We finished with hot tea infused with cardamom, black for me, green for my friend, and it was the perfect close to a perfect meal. I told our server that this food was even more delicious than what my mother makes. I'm Afghan born and raised in San Diego. That is not a compliment I give lightly. I believe the restaurant is under newer management since around 2020/2021. I last ate here in 2015, and even back when it was on Convoy in the late '90s, and this is the best it has ever been. I highly, highly recommend Khyber Pass to anyone: adventurous eaters, first-timers, comfort-food seekers, well everyone. I'll definitely be back, and next time I'm saving room for dessert.

Everything we had was full of flavor that's in harmony. The mantu was soft, creamy, and savory with slight tanginess. The meat from lamb shank was falling off the bone and the rice beneath absorbed its juices. This dish was fantastic but don't sleep on the chicken because it was moist and seasoned perfectly with the spices. This place is a keeper.

Instead of apologizing or trying to help, they were incredibly disrespectful over the phone and kept trying to blame us for their mistake. I have no idea why they couldn't just take responsibility.
