We stopped at Annabelle's in Red Hook on our way to The Ozone on a rainy Sunday morning after church. We ordered coffee and three different pastries to try as well as some of the quiches. First, the quiches were delicious with lots of goodies. My favorite was the bacon and mushrooms. The filling is delicious and the custard is yummy. We devoured that! We tried the blueberry turnover and that was the favorite. The blueberry filling tastes so fresh. Get that if you go. The best pastry ever! Next we tried a giant fritter that looked like an apple fritter... but it's not. I was especially excited to try this but it tasted dry and stale. I was super disappointed. I took a star off for this. The pistachio scone was delicious and giant. Not so crumbly (which I like) with great flavor. My hubby LOVED it and he let me try a piece The waitstaff is very friendly and nice. We sat by the window in comfy chairs and I loved that. read more

Lovely place for good coffee and baked treats. They have breakfast sandwiches and quiche too. I had tomato basil quiche and breakfast cookie. Both were delicious . I did not notice fresh bread for sale but they seem to have everything else. Atmosphere was warm and inviting with plenty of seating. They also do special occasion cakes. FYI ... We were so looking forward to some coffee and a couple of sweets, and we hadn't tried Annabelle's out yet. SO VERY DISAPPOINTING! Neither the pastry that I chose nor the one that my wife chose were very tasty at all, the pastry that was supposed to be flaky was more doughy than anything else, and the coffees were weak and quite mediocre. Worst of all, at precisely 3:02, ourselves and the other patrons, none of whom were finished with their meals, were approached, told that they closed at 3:00 p.m., and asked to leave! Annabelle's made a 6" birthday cake for my wife that was chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and a raspberry layer - it was delicious and beautiful! The decoration and writing was beautiful, and the cake itself was perfectly prepared. I'm so glad Annabelle's is here, and can't recommend her cakes enough! read more

I will miss this shop. Everything about this place is beautiful. I love that they sell milk in glass bottles and they have different flavors! I bought 'Maple Milk', it was touched with just a kiss of maple syrup, slightly sweet and creamy. A friend and I bought loads of pastries, cookies and bars. I can't say what my favorite was. It was all delicious and baked perfectly. Plus everyone here was very polite and happy and I love seeing people who enjoy their jobs! read more

I went here for lunch with my fiance yesterday. Here are the pros and cons. Just the facts. Pros: - Cafe is lovely inside and clean - Service is friendly, albeit a bit awkward - It's nice and quiet inside. (Lots of coffee places in this area are trying hard for the hipster/ earthy crunchy crowd, but this place isn't, which I adore.) Cons: - They don't have any type of menu. When we asked we were told, "What you see out is what we have," as we were pointed to the glass cases. (Even though there was a chalkboard sign way behind the counter that said "egg sandwiches." Since we were going for lunch, if we hadn't seen that, we would have walked out.) - Limited food options. Just the egg sandwiches and chicken salad in the case. - One table for outdoor seating, but it had a broken leg with missing bolts. (See picture) - Cupcakes were made with whipped cream and not butter creme. They just weren't good. - Snickerdoodle scone tastes like a big biscuit. Tips: Fix the outdoor seating. Put butter in the frosting or at least have the option. Print menus and put them on the window of the shop outside and inside at tables and at the counter. Expand menu or concentrate on beverages and sweets. Really taste test those recipes! Find your niche! read more

Not good. Came for the first time on a saturday morning, there were no other customers and they had LOTS of baked treats, got a few different things, including a basic croissant. Came home to share with my family, everything was stale/ a few days old. The donut was barely edible. Very on par with a meh grocery store bakery section, but much more expensive. I really want to love Annabelle's as it's owned by sweet local women who served me for years at the local diner, but after a few trips, I've concluded the baking skills just aren't there. The croissant I chose was massively under baked (and under proofed) and the peanut butter bar was surprisingly flavorless and gritty with granulated sugar (rather than powdered). I was also put off a bit by the refrigerated case having spills under the baked goods and messy, plastic wrapped stored items that were tipped over and visible to guests (assuming they have a different fridge they could store things in?). They're very sweet there and have created a nice environment (hence the 2 stars), but if you're exclusively going to be a bake shop, you've gotta be an amazing baker. read more

Visited red hook for the first time today and this bakery is so inviting! It's a great space with lots of seating, bright and super clean, staff was friendly and sweet. All the treats look delicious. We decided to get a box of the macaroons- my daughters absolute favorite $5.50 for 6 of them which is literally unheard of, BUT they were totally inedible. They were crunchy, and not at all moist on the inside. So disappointed we tossed the whole box. The honeybun which is huge! But again didn't hold up when it came to taste. It was just dry. Lastly my husband got the macadamia nut cookie and that as well tasted stale. We got these for dessert when we got home and I'm sad it was a miss but maybe it was just an off day! I made the mistake of stopping here on my way out of town. The baked goods did not look appetizing but my main problem was the cleanliness of the restaurant, or lack there of. The bakery cases were dirty, tables and floors covered in crumbs, cobwebs in the corners, dead plants and flowers, flies buzzing around, and the coffee station looked as if it hadn't been wiped down in weeks. We ordered egg sandwiches which you could only choose to have on a roll or a sad looking bagel, with a microwaved egg. While eating the sandwich I was genuinely concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen it was made in. If I didn't have a fussy baby with me I would have left immediately. We also ordered a brownie which we took one bite of before throwing out. As other yelpers have said, go to Bread Alone in Rhinebeck. read more

I have been patronizing this wonderful Bakery for years. They serve up community and friendliness in addition to excellent goodies! My favorites are the scones - often times warm, right from the oven - as well as the raspberry bars and vegan, gluten free power balls. The quiches are also a favorite and I've even pre-ordered multiple quiches tips serve at brunch in my home, much to the rave reviews of all my guests. The staff do an excellent job adding in new seasonal treats (try the hot cocoa bombs!) and keeping the atmosphere festive, especially appreciated during current times. Side bar: I've read some of these negative 1-2 star reviews and can tell the majority are from (jaded) folks coming out of the city. I wouldn't take them into account if you're just discovering this gem of a bakery. As a former city dweller turned permanent resident, I can tell you Annabelle's has more than just small town charm and sweet smells of yummy things baking. This place is very cute and eclectically furnished. The young woman working there was very nice and the food looked good. However, I ordered and paid for 3 pastries, but when I opened the bag later in the car, I found only 2. Also, one of the 2 I actually received -- a scone -- was very bitter and horrible tasting. As a baker myself, I'm guessing someone totally screwed up how much baking powder was added. Had to throw that one out! I can forgive my senile granny for doing something like that, but not a "Bake Shop" :-( read more

You lost a great customer by not even apologizing for not being able to make it, or have the decency to look up and acknowledge me. I've tried this place a few times because I was really hoping my first bad experience was just a fluke, but I've had consistently bad experiences here. I was excited to try the cinnamon bun but it was inedible-- underbaked and underproofed, with way too much icing. I've never had to throw away a cinnamon bun before... The scones are similarly inedible, bitter and nothing like an actual scone. Also, the "coffee" is basically brown water. Sorry to say that Taste Budds down the street is infinitely better. read more

This charming family owned bakery has so many freshly baked goods it's hard to choose! Just driving through Red Hook my wife and I saw it and wanted to stop in. Owners were the bakers themselves!
