Annam Special Beef Pho $22 as of June 2025
    Irene L.

The annam special beef pho $22 was delicious. It had the beef balls, slice beef, shredded oxtail, and the broth was rich in flavors. You can tell that this is a well made bowl of pho. It was one of the best bowls I had in recent years. I also added chili peppers and it was just so good. Highly recommend this place. The only issue i had was the lunch special. There was a sign that says it includes appetizer and drink. When I asked to order the special the staff told me it is additional charge but at a special price. The spring rolls would be $2 before 3pm. The lunch special is weirdly priced and it is not a set meal which was mis leading. My pho came out within 10 minutes.

Annam Cafe caught my eye so I decided to give it a shot and it's right near my office. I perused the menu beforehand and decided on what to order. Once you walk-in, theres a kiosk you may order from for take out. However, if you decide to dine-in, you would order from the qr code at an available table. What I orderes was the lunch Annam special- Beef pho which comes with a drink & a side. I got the shrimp summer roll for an extra $2. I wasn't impressed with any of it as it was pricey but I guess it was midtown prices. The sauce for the roll tasted strange as well. I wasn't into the roll or the beef pho. Overall, the best part was the service. Everything else was mediocre at best.

Grab some banh mi sandwiches for lunch in Bryant Park. We tried 3 different ones - the classic, beef and BBQ pork. We thought the classic was the best. Glad to find this cafe near Bryant Park and will do this again.

Took our family here after walking around a cold rainy day in Time square and everything we ordered hit the spot! The atmosphere was very nice, the staff were attentive and things came out quickly and hot! My MIL loved everything and our daughter wished we could bring some Pho back to Florida!

My team and I were in the area when we unexpectedly came across Annam Cafe. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the store offers plenty of seating to accommodate every customer comfortably. I tried the beef sandwich and the beef pho bowl, both of which were delicious. Of course, I also ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee, which I absolutely loved. The staff is friendly and attentive, making every visit a great experience. I recommend this place for a cozy coffee break or a quick bite.

So when my family stumbled into Pho 39, a tiny spot with just a handful of tables tucked away from the chaos outside, it felt less like finding a restaurant and more like discovering a Rebel outpost that somehow survived undetected in the middle of Imperial territory. The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a solid Vietnamese spot: pho, combination rice plates, the usual lineup. We were ready to order and move on with our lives. Then we saw the tacos. Vietnamese tacos. On the menu. Sitting right there between the banh mi and the spring rolls like they'd always belonged. Nobody in my family said anything for a full three seconds, which for us is basically a standing ovation. We ordered the duck spring rolls to start, which were fresh, well packed, and disappeared faster than a starfighter in hyperspace. For the mains we went with the beef flank pho and the banh mi combination special. The pho had a clean, well developed broth that clearly had some time put into it, and the beef flank was tender enough to make you slow down and pay attention. The banh mi combo was solid, balanced, and hit all the right notes. We did not get the tacos this visit, which means we have a built in reason to return and nobody can argue with that logic. For a small room in the middle of one of the busiest cities on the planet, Pho 39 manages to feel genuinely calm and focused. Good food, good value, and a menu with enough surprises to keep things interesting. The Force is strong with this little spot.

For many in the East Village, this has been the default takeout and delivery spot for years, and it holds up just as well when you dine in. The Beef Rendang Nasi Lemak is the order I keep coming back to. On a recent lunch visit I tried the Mee Goreng from the Lunch Set menu and it was the standout of the meal: savory from soy sauce and fish sauce, sweet, spicy, tangy, and smoky from the wok. The beef pad see ew has some of the best noodles I've ever had, the sizzling steak lives up to its entrance, the shrimp summer rolls are fresh, and the chicken laksa is full of flavor. The one miss was the Curry Laksa, where the lemongrass and curry never quite came together. Lunch sets come with a drink, and the Vietnamese iced coffee beats the Thai iced tea, bolder and less sweet. End with the mango sticky rice with coconut cream: warm rice, ripe fresh mango, the right way to close a meal. Prices are fair. Service is quick, efficient, and friendly. It's more of an eat-and-go spot than a place to linger. One heads up: there's a fee for credit card payments.

Got a pork chop noodle salad bowl with extra meat that was served very quickly. Pork was thin and just a little over the line past cooked and into dry territory, but still flavorful. There were more veggies (lettuce, pickled carrots, etc) than noodles, which is not a bad thing. Whole thing gets topped with peanuts and fried shallots. Comes with fish sauce and sriracha separately packed. Speed, solid quality and value. A good addition to the lunch rotation.

It was about 92°F outside and there was no AC. They did have a couple of fans running to help with the heat, but unfortunately, they weren't enough. The restaurant has an open-kitchen concept, which is nice because you can see the kitchen, but you can also feel the heat coming from it. With the front door left open, the summer heat was coming in as well, making it extremely hot inside. There were also quite a few flies circling around, which I'm assuming was partly due to the door being left open. That made the dining experience less comfortable, especially while eating. I would've given 5 stars for the food because it was delicious, but the heat, flies, and overall dining environment really took away from the experience. I'd definitely come back for the food, but I hope they find a better solution for keeping the restaurant cool and comfortable during the summer months.
