My favorite dish was Vegan Pho without tofu, which was delicious, also gluten free, dairy free and soy free. Others had something else I had no interest in to remember the name. The viet bao stood out--really flavorful and probably the best thing we had. The pho was okay, but coming from LA, it's hard not to compare, and Little Saigon still does it better. My daughter got the famous wings and those were solid. The kids especially liked the prawn chips that came with them--ended up finishing those pretty quickly. Welcoming and cheery staff. Went there for the Nom Nam Pho with bone marrow and long-simmered broth. Marrow was for my husband - piece was kind of small. The rest was delicious. Didn't expect to find affordable Vietnamese food in Murray hill so this was a pleasant spot to come upon! It is near the movie theater so a great place to grab a bite either before or after the movies. I got the pho and it was good. Very clear broth. I have been to this quaint and pretty popular Vietnamese restaurant twice over the multiple years it's been open, with a long time separating the two visits. The service was very friendly both times, and the place got quite crowded the second time I was there. The first time I had the Hanoi Style Bánh Mì for $14 or so, which consisted of ham & pate, pork floss, jalapeno, and Maggi sauce. The bread was decent, with some crunch, but not too much, and there was a good amount of ingredients, whether it was the various pork products or the vegetables. It was reasonably priced, at least for Murray Hill, and decently flavored, but I wouldn't go out of my way for said sandwich. I also got a Vietnamese iced coffee to go, which was standard and worked well enough to keep me alert in the afternoon, and was lightly sweetened with condensed milk as requested. The second time, I had something I preferred much more, their pho. I went with the O.G. Pho for $14.50 with angus sirloin and brisket, and added tendon and tripe for an extra $4, and essentially turned it into a pho dac biet/phở dặc biệt. The broth was better flavored than some of the other Vietnamese spots in the area, and there was plenty of noodles. The meat was nice and tender, though there wasn't much of either the tenderloin or the brisket. The tendon and tripe on the side added some nice textures. It was an above-average bowl of pho at a typical Murray Hill price. If you're in the neighborhood, I would recommend it if you're in the mood for Vietnamese. read more

I came here for dinner and very satisfied! The size of the Pho is insane! Perfect flavor, more on the lighter side of pho. Delicate. The dumplings were perfect as well. After a movie, we stopped for dinner. It was a hot summer night and conveniently located in Kips Bay. It was near closing time. A small retail space with people waiting for take out. A good sign that locals order from here. Nicely lit, air conditioned and clean. We were seated shortly as some guests were leaving. My pork chop was huge for what I would typically get in a Vietnamese restaurant. Nice quality piece of meat, lean off the bone. Nicely seasoned. The steamed egg was good. Long night of drinking and decided I needed some early morning pho which back in cali is my go to! Broth was amazing, flavors didn't disappoint from the sauces with the beef dumplings (on sale for two for one) same for the egg rolls and crispy egg rolls were amazing. Not a fan of young coconut with pulp listed because I always figure it's a real coconut and not juice but my friends drank it up. The unsweetened green tea was exactly what it was supposed to be. Can't complain when you get what you ask for. The main difference is that when ordering the raw meat, back home it comes in a bag to differentiate and not contaminate the rest of the food incase delivery takes longer than expected which was weird. I also ordered an extra small broth to quick cook it on the side. I don't know if that's an NY thing or just this place thing. Overall, not bad. Omg this was the cutest place ever, and gave me exactly what I needed for my solo day adventure! I was in the area visiting the famous international specialty store "Kalustyan" and was craving a hearty soup. This place came up on Yelp as highly recommended so I had to stop by. The inside is small and intimate, but intimate because of the size, not because of the ambience. It has the vibe of "stop by, grab a good bite with a small group or solo, and be on your way." There's a small bar with I believe 3-4 stools. Deeper in the establishment, there are a lot of 2 tops and a couple of areas that can seat 4 tops. I got the OG Pho and it was exactlyyyy what I needed. Hearty, flavorful, full of body, and comforting. And to my surprise they had a bar menu! I did not pay attention to that when I selected the place. I got the lychee martini and it was so delicious!! I had a late lunch at Nom Nam and was happy to have found this little gem of a restaurant. To start, my host/server, Sasi was so pleasant, helpful and accommodating. Unbeknownst to me, my meal kinda of entered into the staff meal time, whereas the restaurant closes so the staff can eat, decompress and prepare for the dinner rush (I'm a slow eater... the food was really good and I like to savor each bite). Nevertheless, Sasi didn't rush or try to get me out of the restaurant, she came over to inform me that I would be eating amongst the staff. Not a problem for me. I could show some love to the folks who prepared that fire ass lunch for me! Again, I referenced YELP for options in the area. While I know the area and many of the restaurants, I wanted to see what was new and something different. The banh mi sandwich is an overall favorite and I wanted to try their version. I opted for the chicken which had a savory sweet sauce. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! It was so delicious that I ordered chicken wings because while I was hungry, I wanted to save half of the sandwich for later. The chicken wings come with shrimp chips, which is a cute alternative to french fries. They were good and had a nice flavor, but not as crispy as I like my wings. I ate a few and a few shrimp chips, but definitely had a nice treat for the following day. As my grandmother always said, "my eyes are bigger than my stomach." Pho is still solid. And the short rib is still my go-to order. Everything else still holds. This time I'm here to talk about my recent obsession, the banh mi. The best banh mi I've had in the states is still from Philly. I've tried to find a substitute in the city but haven't had a good one until now. I get the pork with added pate. First of all, I'm sorry to sound like a hater but I've eaten at a lot of Midtown east restaurants and the area is not known for travel-worthy bites, particularly for this category. Second of all, they have a neon sign in the shop, and I've observed a correlation between a restaurant having a neon sign and the food being lackluster. On top of all that, just like with Mexican food, despite there being many Vietnamese restaurants in NYC, they've historically under delivered on flavor. With all this working against having a good meal here, my friend and I decided to give them a try anyway, with the start of chilly weather season calling us to sit down with a bowl of noodle soup, so in we went. I'm happy to say the food was pretty good, and that was a pleasant surprise. I opted for the chicken pho while my friend got bone marrow. My friend is actually Vietnamese and thought the broth was decent-- though she definitely also tempered her expectations with this being a Vietnamese restaurant in New York. We happily drank down our bowls of noodle soup while enjoying our sides, the brussel sprouts and chicken bao. Both had great flavor and at $14-$21 per bowl, the prices weren't so bad. Note that this place is small-- there are only 3 seats at the bar near the front and a few small two tops inside. Decided to try a new pho spot while in the city. They did not disappoint! When we walked in, it was empty. As soon as 12 hit, it was full! (We kind of have that affect on places we go ) They were welcoming and handled the rush well. Decor was so cute and simple at the same time. It's pretty tight in here, a lot of people came in by themselves to that took up some two seaters, they even pulled out a folding table. We ordered some crunchy veggie spring rolls since we gave up pork for lent. Although they are cooked in a different wrap than the classic Vietnamese spring rolls, we really enjoyed them and were very happy this was an option. We both ordered our own bowl of pho. I had the o.g. Pho which had steak and brisket. He got the steak pho with a side of baby bok choy. The broth was delicious and so flavorful, you could taste the anise and other seasonings in it. Small, vibrant (albeit crowded and looking sloppy with miscellaneous merchandise near the bar) restaurant with several tables for dining in including limited bar seating.
