My daughter and I ordered the lunch special- she got Thai Iced Tea, salad, and Pad Thai. I got Thai Iced Tea, Rangoon , and Grilled Chicken with Rice. Our server came a few times to check on us. The restaurant was very quiet as we missed the lunch rush. We were taken care of. My chicken was grilled, but very fatty and tough. It's probably the way it's supposed to be, just not my favorite. My daughter had Pad Thai and it looked really good. Everything else was great! I'll be back to try something else on the next visit.
Tried this spot during restaurant week. Great find and a neighborhood gem in bells kitchen/Broadway theater row area. Food was delicious and service impeccable with a very engaging host and waiter that we had. Ambiance is chic and trendy with a decent happy hour and drinks menu to toot. The spice level is strong so if you don't like spicy I highly recommend letting your server know your tolerance or preference.

The pad thai noodles are a big thinner than i've had before but that didn't bother me, it has such great flavor too. I recommend ordering it spicy, it's the perfect heat if you're looking for that kick but don't add it if you can't handle spice. The drunken noodles are not spicy in my opinion but i can handle a bit of heat. Loved the flavor and the noodles had the right texture, could've done without the huge chunks of tomato but great otherwise. The summer rolls were good, hard to mess those up. We also got a free mango salad with the order and that was so fresh and delicious. We just popped in for pick up but the hostess was really nice and attentive as soon as we walked in. It looked to be a nice casual spot, could be good for dinner with friends or date night.
Wow, every dish so good. Thought it would be less specialized bc they serve both Thai and Vietnamese dishes but flavors were very clean and strong. - Drunken noodles: not too greasy, might be the best drunken noodles I've had. Medium spice was not spicy at all for us. - Duck curry: a bit small on the portions but the curry is magical. Was scraping this plate clean. - Bo luc lac: star dish for sure. Beef melts on your tongue and the marinade is slightly sweet and smoky. - Summer rolls: small portions but the flavor is there. Super refreshing and special bc they pickle the vegetables inside. - Crispy pork belly: reminds me of the crispy pork I had in Vietnam. Really well done, pairs well with the lettuce and herbs. That green sauce is so addicting. - Papaya salad: super refreshing, nice fish sauce. - Crab fried rice: reminds me of the din tai fung fried rice bc of how clean the flavor is. Great dim ambiance for a date or dinner out. Definitely coming back soon.
Obao has delicious food. If you're in Hells Kitchen and happen to stumble by Obao, it is worth coming in. Obao is has both Thai and Viet food. It does well with doing the whole "fusion" schtick without losing the essence and flavor of the dishes. Pad Krapoa Moo Krob, the meat on the pork belly was so juicy - the pork skin was crunchy and chewy at the same time, flavors of Thai spice, basil, and bell peppers harmoniously working together to bring a balanced meal. The shrimp basil fried rice was delicious, a great alternative if you're not feeling the crab fried rice. The service at Obao is always prompt and helpful, whether it's questions about the menu or recommendations, anyone is willing to help. Inside Oboa is dimly lit, a moody vibe that is fun and invites playful conversations.
While walking down the street in Hell's Kitchen, Obao caught my family's and my eyes. We looked at the menu and noticed that there were many gluten-free options, so we decided to try them out. The hostess stated how she had a long reservation list, but was able to get us right in! Once we sat down, our server, Spaghetti, came over to us. He was extremely friendly and took our drink orders right away. I ordered an Espresso Martini, and it was delicious. My father ordered a Vietnamese Iced Coffee, which was extremely tasty. For our entrees, my mother ordered the Pad Thai, and my father and I ordered the Pho Bó. My mom absolutely loved the Pad Thai! The Pho Bó was incredible. The broth was so delectable, and it was honestly the best broth that I have ever had. The portions were also incredible, especially for the price and being in the city! Once we received the check, we noticed that next to the Pho Bó, it stated that it is Michelin Recommended, and we completely understand why! We are looking forward to going back!
I love this place! Starting out with the ambience, I thought it was very nice in here, but just keep in mind. It does get a little bit warm in the summer and I wish there was a little bit more air running. I got the khao sai and it definitely is a do not skip on the menu. This was so flavorful and honestly a bang for your buck. The drinks were really cute and unique and overall I really can't get over how delicious all the food was. The service was really quick and our waiter was really nice so all in all I really recommend this restaurant.
Super cute resturant. Did not realize it has a second floor with and without window views, truly a surprise. I loved who dimly lit and clean the space was, all the way to how clean the bathrooms were. Our server Jennie was super kind and attentive, she was also super kind to my son as well. Our drinks and food were perfect; i had ordered the drunken noodles with is normal spice level and it was perfect. My son also had the Vietnamese wings, jasmine rice and broccoli, THOSE WINGS & THAT WING SAUCE !!!! That wing sauce needs to be bottled, it was soooo good. I had their berry mojito which was nice and refreshing as well, perfect for the hot day it was. I truly appreciate how their restaurant has gratuity already included in the total price, we really need all restaurants to adopt this because our servers deserve decent living wages. If you are looking for a nice comforting Thai meal, stop by Obao!
Jennie was awesome. We informed the staff that we had a show to attend to and they were quick and expedited our orders. The ambiance was fun and vibey The food is a mix of Vietnamese and Thai. We had the calamari and spring rolls. The spring rolls were refreshing and perfect. We were a table of 8 people with a 6 year old. Pad see ew was decent. Vietnamese pork chop not too sweet in the marinade and cooked perfectly. The tofu and eggplant garlic was okay. Mid on the spice level. The Pho was good. But served luke warm. The flavor had a great amount of salt and acid.
After [fiiiinally] catching the matinee showing of Book of Mormon with my brother in town, we ended up at Obao with another friend who was theater-going. The place is pretty big/multi-floored, pretty upscale ambiance, very nice in appearance. We were seated pretty quickly and had a nice table upstairs. The service was prompt and helpful (although they initially wanted me to toss my cup from the Book of Mormon - which I was trying to keep as a memento as I stupidly left my playbook [and scarf] in the theater, but after I explained, they allowed me to hang onto it). We ultimately ended up ordering the Obao bun platter as a shared appetizer, which features grilled pork, shrimp, tofu, beef balls, crispy spring roll, vermicelli noodles,fresh vegetables, pickled carrot and radish, peanuts and nước châm sauce. Just an FYI, while "bun" is in the name, this dish has no buns [hun] - though you can make lettuce wraps. I really enjoyed this, had a wide array of food, all delicious. For my main, I ordered the Bo Luc Lac (seared diced New Zealand grass fed beef , onion, grape tomatoes and top with crispy shallots) - thought it was great, the beef was very tender and the flavors were on point. Really nice. For drinks, brother got an Allagash draft, and I was still in a good place from fun times at the bar at the show, so wisely settled for water...which a younger me would have never done lol. It was really nice being near my old stomping grounds from my Hell's Kitchen days, and wish I had dined here before leaving - really good, decently priced food (especially for the area); will definitely be on my short list next time I'm around.
Went to Obao for a family dinner on May 20th 2026. Cool little spot, decent decor not anything too crazy. We ordered the wings and spring rolls to start. Spring rolls were very fresh, wings are very flavorful. Mains, my babies had the Pho Bo, which they enjoyed. Wifey went with the fried rice main and I got the green curry chicken. That curry is really good I can't front. We had really good service from the wait staff. We got a side of beef, like short rib on the bone. It came out cold but I told my wife that's maybe because the expectation is that you out it in the pho? Overall solid place that we will revisit.
Wonderful dinner experience. The ambiance was perfect. Soft lighting, but not dark, the restaurant was lively, but not overwhelming. Our waitress was wonderful. She gave us menu recommendations and perfectly responded to all our questions. The drunken noodles were phenomenal! The serving size, presentation, taste, all 10/10. As a tourist, it was easy to see that this is a place where locals come to enjoy an evening out with good food and drinks.
Was craving eggplant tofu and this hit the spot. Did pick up - restaurant was clean and busy - always a good sign! Also got sesame chicken.

I never expected that it's a Thai / Vietnamese restaurant until I saw the menu. It's nyc restaurant week so we were delighted to know that they participate to the promotion . Lunch with appetizer/main entree costs only $30. Additional fee for a dessert and drinks. They have nice selections for their fixed menu . I picked the shrimp summer roll Thai style and Vietnamese pork chop with noodle and Chinese broccoli. I have never enjoyed my meal this much. A flavorful and enticing combo meal. We skipped dessert as we are already filled up by what we got. Our server was so great. Fast and friendly. She even volunteered to take our photo. My friends enjoyed their steak as their entree and rib for appetizer. The place is pretty neat especially its second floor with lots of chandeliers all over the dining area. It's a bit dark on our section . Sears and tables are old but still showing the used to be elegance of the place. Location is at the popular restaurant row. Will come back. read more
Came here on a thursday evening around 7:30 PM with a reservation for 2, but it wasn't too busy, so I would say a reservation isn't super necessary. It was a quiet and nice spot to catch up with a friend. The service was also great, as the food came out quickly and they were very attentive with refilling our waters. We each got the pho bo, which was about $28 after tip and tax. I liked the meats in the soup a lot, and the broth was tasty. The noodles did clump together quite a bit though, so it felt like they weren't the most fresh. read more

I came to New York during the winter and the weather was absolutely freezing, so naturally we were craving something warm and comforting. My boyfriend loves pho, so OBAO felt like the perfect choice, and it completely delivered. We ordered the pad see ew with chicken, and the noodles were incredibly tender and tasted fresh, not heavy or oily at all. We also got the braised short rib pho, which came in a very generous portion and was rich, flavorful, and perfect for warming up on a cold day. To round things out, we ordered the bo luc lac, which came with rice and was cooked beautifully. The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was dimly lit and cozy, giving the whole place a really nice vibe. It was the kind of spot where you can relax, enjoy your food, and escape the cold for a bit. Great food, great portions, great atmosphere. I would definitely come back. read more

This place was super cute and vibes were cool in the daytime and I'm sure it gets crazy at night. They have an upstairs private party area type and it's very cute. The Thai food was ok it wasn't as authentic as I would prefer and I know my authenticity when it comes to Thai food since I eat it all the time back in Cali. The service gets an extra star cause they were so accommodating and so kind. I would come here just for the vibes for sure. Cocktails were good. read more

What a great place to dine and hang out with friends. The service was good, food was delicious, everything was perfect! I didn't take photos of all the food because we were so excited when the food arrived lol so I only remembered to take this one. We tried the crispy spring roll, shrimp tom yum, ka prao kai khai dao, pla todd and mango salad. So if you are in Hells Kitchen area, stop by at OBAO for delicious Asian food! read more
During our NY trip, we were trying to figure out what to eat before going to see Back to the Future: The Musical... we came upon this spot. We are always down for Thai food wherever we go, even better that it was a Vietnamese fusion as well-- if we decided to go that route. It's very nicely decorated, loved the ambience... and they kept it really clean. The staff was super friendly, and very attentive. The food was good. Can't say I was wowed but it was good. We got the Phad Thai (with shrimp) and the Pork Belly to share, we weren't super hungry and wanted to leave space for after the show. I liked the Phad Thai-- there was a good amount of shrimp and they were cooked perfectly... the poached egg, however, not my favorite on this dish... that's just me. The Pork belly was good, I was just missing my rice (didn't order). He got beer, I also got the Thai Iced Coffee -- it was solid. All in all, we enjoyed our visit here. The overall experience was nice and we wouldn't mind going back to try other things on the menu. Again, they were good... they just didn't wow me with the food so I've got to stick them in the middle for now. read more
I got the BÒ LÚC LAC (3/5) and split the fresh summer rolls (3.5/5). The BÒ LÚC LAC was very small, especially for the price, and it came out slightly warm like it had been sitting out for a bit and lacked flavor. The fresh summer rolls were a bit better but still not great, especially for the price and quantity. I tried a bite of the pho, which was much better (4/5) and more reasonably priced for the quantity and quality. The service was good (4/5); they consistently kept my water full and were attentive. Randomly finding a restaurant that has awesome food, service, and gets you out in time for a show is a win. I'm so glad that we found Obao and you should be too, because you won't be disappointed. First, the place was pretty busy, but they were able to get us in, without a reservation, were very attentive and helped us to move through the evening. The drinks were good and strong, I wouldn't recommend more than one if you're going to a show...and want to remember it. The food came out quickly, was full of flavor and a nice size portion. I was glad to not get a huge heaping pile before going into a dark, cold theatre. The drunken noodles were fairly normal in preparation and had a bit of spice, but not enough to be crazy. If you're looking for something new while in Times Square, this is a killer spot. read more
My family visited Obao on a recent visit to NYC. This is definitely not a tourist spot. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is excellent with great depth of flavors. We ordered the spring rolls, pad se yu and garlic noodles. All of the items were delicious and worth ordering. I highly recommend checking them out. read more
I came here for dinner. They have a pretty good sized space for nyc and the prices are good as well. There's a bar as soon as you enter and stairs to go upstairs to more seating. Theres about 15 tables so definitely make reservations I didn't really thjnk they were so different and outstanding compared to other viet restaurants but they offer good prices and service and are probably the best in the area. The jeeb dumplings were my favorite dish here. read more
Two words. SO GOOD! One of the best modern Vietnamese restaurants I've ever tried! We came right before the rush hour around 7pm and were able to get seated immediately. The space is very small so coming with a group more than 6 may be a little difficult on a busy day. The waiter was very attentive to detail and very informative. The food portion itself was huge! I had expected it to be a smaller size plate with less food but that's not the case! Everything was cooked perfectly. We also had the steamed dumplings but didn't take a photo before digging in. It's essentially like a Cantonese Shumai but flavors were more Thai. Highly recommend and will 1000% come back when I'm in NYC! read more
Came here on a Wednesday night to have a quick dinner before my broadway show. We didn't have a reservation but didn't have to wait long to be seated. When we sat down, we ordered immediately and had told our server that we have a show to catch so to please prioritize our order and to have everything come out asap. We ordered their crispy spring roll, pho bò, and bò lúc lăc. The service was slow. We waited awhile to get our crispy spring rolls, even after the tables next to us who sat down after us. The spring roll, although small in portion, was crispy and packed with flavors. I enjoyed that very much. The Pho Bò was a disappointment. Although the broth was hearty and flavorful - but not the best I've had, the noodles were soggy and beef was overcooked and dry. The Bo Lúc lăc was worst. It was literally unmarinated beef stir fried in Maggie sauce. The quality of the beef wasn't very good and they were cut in small pieces which made it tough and dry. I actually make this at home a lot and I make it better. Overall, portion size is small and super overpriced for what you get. I've had better Pho in other local hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurants. You are basically paying for their decor and ambience although seats are also very tight. Service was slow even though we had requested to speed up our order. There are other choices in the area so I most likely won't be back. read more

Came to OBAO for lunch and, once again, it did not disappoint. The restaurant is always nicely decorated, the service is cordial/professional, the food is well presented, and ALWAYS delicious. I started with a Vietnamese Iced Coffee and it's ALWAYS memorable! The mixture of the strong coffee with the creamy sweetener adds to the enjoyment of anything it will accompany. TRY IT! We ordered from the lunch special menu and had the following: Steamed Dumplings (Chicken, Shrimp, Shitake Mushrooms, sesame oil, served with chili soy sauce). This is the perfect starter. The Dumplings were so tender, savory, and made a delightful dent to our appetite. Next was the Papaya Salad (Shredded young papaya, lime, chilies, garlic, long beans, cherry tomatoes, crushed peanuts, and palm sugar). This dish was so good. It was a large serving for a lunch special, the papaya was pleasantly crunchy, this is always my favorite entree selection, and is highly recommended. If you're ever in the mood for Thai cuisine, OBAO will satisfy your craving and make you return for more. read more
After not securing a table at a nearby famous restaurant, my family and I stumbled upon Obao which was relatively close by! For a Sunday night, there was a 10 minute wait and they were able to accommodate our large party. Thai tea was delicious, calamari was perfectly cooked, everyone loved their entrees. We all got Thai iced tea except the one friend who got Vietnamese iced tea. I got the pho bo short ribs which was delicious but a bit overpriced. The meat was so tender and falling off the bone though. My friend got the Vietnamese crispy pork belly. My wife got the spicy drunken noodles and enjoyed it. We came across this restaurant in Chelsea market while on the hunt to explore restaurants in the area. It has good ambience. We sat at the bar for the happy hour drinks and my friends got some beer and aperol spritz (cheap drinks). The service was quick and easy. We ordered a couple of bites from the happy hour menu like wings and shrimp rolls then ordered other main courses like pad see yew, Vietnamese salad, steamed dumplings. Everything was mild and flavorful. We had a good time and stayed till closing. Would come back for cheap drinks and good ambiance. read more
The food was decent at first until it started to hurt my friend's and I stomach a few hours later. Not sure what we ate that upset our stomachs, but we got the calamari, bo luc lac, and the shrimp and pork dry noodle dish. Walked in on friday night and was able to get seated quickly. Ordered the cucumber jalapeno margarita, chicken dumplings, pad see wee, and green curry. I enjoyed the pad see wee, it was spicy, flavorful as was the green curry though it was not as spicy. Portion wise it was not too large. Skip the chicken dumplings, it was $14 for 4 tiny dumplings that were below average. read more

We had a pretty decent meal here. We were looking for a nice place to sit and have a meal before a Broadway show nearby, where we could also cater to some different dietary restrictions. This place checked all of those boxes for us. We were especially excited about the Michelin-recommendations. We ordered a bunch of different appetizers and entrees, with me getting the pho. The food was alright but it fell a little flat for me. I am not sure if it's because the location is so convenient that they have to try to appeal to a more mass audience, but the food really wasn't as punchy as I was hoping. Also the portion sizes were a little disappointing. The ambiance is moody but still fun, and the staff was helpful. It's a good place to stop to eat before a show if you're in the area, but it didn't blow my socks off. read more
Stopped in on a Saturday night with my date. Super cozy, awesome spot in Hell's Kitchen. The pho was delicious, perfect comfort food on a cold day. The beef was tender and had a good balance of salty and savory. It only took about 10 minutes to be seated, service was fast and friendly. read more

Best pho I've had in a long time!!! Server was kind enough to ask the kitchen if I could do the chicken leg but with beef broth and they said yeah. It was perfect. Casual spot. read more

Not necessary but recommended!

We made reservations and went early.There were plenty of tables but it filled up while we were there. Given that this is in the Theater District I would make reservations for sure.
Has anyone made a reservation for 8+ people? Is there a minimum amount each person is required to order?
My team had lunch there, it was a party of 7 and we had extra seating at our table. So 8 ppl is definitely fine. I don't think there's a minimum purchase to be seated, we each spent $18 there, after tax and tips.
Do they make a vegetarian pho (or other hot soup) option?
No, I went and they had very very limited vegan options (stuck to edamame and alcohol). The soups all use animal based broth so not vegetarian either.
Do you have to sit at the bar to get happy hour prices or do the deals still apply if you sit at a table?
Happy hour deals also apply if you sit at the tables.
