The Blind Goat offers a vibrant atmosphere and incredible savory dishes. Chef Christine Ha's fusion menu is packed with delicious flavors. She also has a platform to present Vietnamese food. Just keep in mind that the plates are pricier for the size, as this restaurant leans more toward upscale fusion rather than a casual, homey spot. It can take a bit more to fill up, especially if you are dining with a group. Additionally, the dessert was just okay, not bad but nothing memorable. In 2012, Christine Ha, a blind Vietnamese-American woman, presented ca kho to - braised catfish - a dish that my mother would make for me on a weekly basis, to the panel of Masterchef judges. And every week after that, twelve-year-old me would tune in to Masterchef season 3 to watch Christine eventually take home the Masterchef trophy. The things Christine achieved on that show were not only incredibly inspirational, but also helped me feel proud of my Vietnamese heritage. I've since waited fourteen years to try her restaurant in Houston, Texas. I started with a cocktail - Christine's Apple Pie-Ball, a highball made with apple pie syrup, inspired by the apple pie she stunned Gordon with on the show. The drink was refreshing, but the apple pie flavor was quite mellow. I wish the apple flavor would have been more pronounced.For our appetizers, we had the thit kho shumai and tom toast. The thit kho shumai really tasted like thit kho, but that was it. It just tasted like thit kho. There was nothing else notable about the dish. It was not plump or juicy as I would expect a dumpling to be, and the flavor wasn't very strong. It felt like I was left hanging. "...and?" is how I felt about this dish. The tom toast was actually pretty good. The presentation was very neat. The edges of the toast were so crispy it was like char siu. The shrimp paste was delicious and the Nha Trang crab sauce was very good.  For our entrees, we had the sticky wings, rose tteokbokki, Texas bbq brisket fried rice, and Viet-Cajun gumbo pot pie. The sticky wings were fine. The brisket in the fried rice felt like a haphazard topping. Although the brisket was fatty and tender, the pieces were far too small and didn't feel like they added much to the dish. And although the pot pie was constructed well and had a beautiful pastry, I felt like the gumbo was underseasoned. Although I feel like there is room for improvement, I'm still happy I got to give The Blind Goat a try. Service was fine. I still really look up to Christine and even bought her cookbook after our meal! I'm looking forward to seeing what she does next. read more

This is a nice restaurant located in a shopping center on Long Point with plenty of parking available in front. Inside it has a full bar along with a large dining room. Reservations are recommended. I ordered the crawfish and garlic noodles for $21. I added the appetizer of banh khot appetizer for $13. The appetizer arrived first with 8 mini cakes with shrimp that while light in weight were quite flavorful and enjoyed. The crawfish and garlic noodles was a substantially larger and more filling dish. It was delicious. The food is here is very good. I've seen this place on instagram and read all the hype so I was excited to see what all the buzz was about. I like the location, lots of parking and in nice shopping center. I liked the staff, friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is casual, relaxing, and spacious. The food which I was most excited about was not as good as I excepted. I was looking for a nice Asian fusion restaurant and stumbled across The Blind Goat. I was solo so I ate at the bar. It was a very nice, comfortable dining room and bar. Ambiance was casual for sure, but definitely a higher end restaurant. I tried the egg rolls and Goat Lo Mein. Both were very good. Egg rolls were outstanding. I thought the Lo Mein was missing just a bit of flavor for me but still very enjoyable, but not a dish that I'd have again, at least not until I try a few others. Daily specials are nice. Menu is made for sharing so a bit tough as a solo diner. You want to try 3 or 4 dishes but just one person so I'll definitely be back. read more

Came on a Monday for the all day happy hour and left super satisfied. Service was super attentive but there were a few mix ups in our orders. Upscale Vietnamese vibe, would recommend coming here for a date night! Ordered a few things off the happy hour. Our favorites were: - Whole fried fish: wowed by this dish. Fried very crispy and soft meat, paired nicely with the rice noodles and pickled daikon. Definitely a standout dish. - Sticky wings: loved the marinade. A little sweet but lots of sour notes, big fan of this. Great value for happy hour price! - Highball: my first time having a non-sweet lemon highball! Huge fan. The Blind Goat has been on my list for a while for a couple of reasons. First off, I enjoyed their food when they had a smaller menu at a food hall several years ago. Two, I'm a huge Gordon Ramsay fan. And The Blind Goat's chef, Christine Ha, was on a season of Masterchef. So it was only a matter of time. I checked it out on a Tuesday evening for dinner with my mom. Parking (for free) wasn't an issue in the busy shopping center they share with Jinya, Barnaby's, and several other businesses in Spring Branch. Ambiance (4/5): Modern and comfy. Not my favorite aesthetic for a restaurant but it's nice. We sat at a booth/chair combo toward the back of the restaurant. Service (3.5/5): Our waiter was efficient which I always appreciate. He also made recommendations since I was torn between two entrees. There was a mishap that could have been an honest mistake. I ordered a beer and was given a different beer. It was from the same brewery so I didn't notice. Until I received my bill where I discovered that the beer I was served was $5 more expensive than the one I ordered. Drinks (4.5/5): The Blind Goat has a small but mighty list of cocktails, beer and more. And what's pretty cool, they had a special menu with several beers at $3 and cocktails at $6. Definitely some good value! I went with a Kirin Light for 3 buckeroos. Food (4.5/5): Think upscale Vietnamese food with some Texas flair. We started off by sharing the sticky wings which are one of the dishes chef Ha is known for. Talk about some delicious wings. Meaty, crispy, fried just right, with a delicious (and sticky) sauce. Some of the best wings I've had in the minute. From there, I went with the crawfish & garlic noodles which are the second most popular dish at the restaurant. Take a classic Vietnamese dish and add some Texas flavor to it with the crawfish. I've had the same dish at Crawfish Cafe and I must say, The Blind Goat's version is head and shoulders above. This dish often can get too greasy, making it heavy. Not here. And you get some good size crawfish to accompany the noodles. Another excellent dish. Christine Ha happened to be in the restaurant for a minute or two right when we arrived. Next time around, I'm going to have to go with the brisket fried rice (the most popular dish on the menu). While the food isn't cheap, it doesn't break the bank either. If you're looking for a more affordable option, she also owns a burger/sandwich joint in the same shopping center. To start with, full surface lot with plenty of parking so no complaints there. It's been a while since I've ventured back to one of Christine's establishment so I was eager to take advantage of HH here. Some good deals, but I guess they had a change in their printed menu and what was on their devices for ordering so we did have a surprise fried dumpling dish we weren't expecting. Honestly, wasn't one of our favourites either. I personally enjoyed a lot of the bites, but they are extremely tiny portions! We did try the salmon dish which was cooked well, but on the sweeter side and overall nothing stellar. I was glad to see the dining room does fill up for dinner. Pretty nice spot for a casual lunch or dinner. I liked that they offer different daily specials on both food and alcohol, and the service was excellent. We ordered the Bò Né since it was the special that day, along with shui mai, green beans, and the green curry steak. I did wish they had given us a full loaf of bread instead of just half, and I was expecting it to come with the Vietnamese egg yolk mayo, but it didn't. Overall, the food was decent. Nothing particularly unique compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. It felt more like a Western-Asian fusion. I have been looking forward to trying this spot for a while. Unfortunately the food was just good enough for me to return. First off I'm so inspired by Christine Ha, she is able to make amazing dishes being that she's unable to see. She was actually there when we dined in but I didn't get a chance to speak to her. Like someone teeth will crack trying to bite into it. It's was definitely beyond crispy but not flaky. The shrimp was cooked nicely so I ended up just eating that. Fish sauce had good flavor. 2/5 * Mom's egg-rolls- came out piping hot. The filling was just okay. The flavors were more elevated once you wrapped the egg-rolls with some lettuce & dip it in the sauce. 2.5/5 * Texas BBQ brisket fried rice- rice was cooked nicely, soft & fluffy. Brisket was also tendered. But I felt like they could've given us some sauce to make the dish better. 3/5 * Caramelized salmon (Ca Kho)- this dish is usually cooked with catfish but I don't mind salmon since it's a good quality fish. The sauce met all the components to a good Ca Kho, it was sweet, savory, sticky with a little heat from the peppers. Fish was also cooked to perfection. The rice on the other hand was a little hard and probably been sitting in that pot for a long time. 3.5/5 * Basque burnt cheesecake- delicious. It was creamy, cheesy and not too dense. 4.2/5. Our server Dallas was very nice and attentive, she also listened to my feedback & was apologetic since I was underwhelmed with my banh khot. She did an awesome job of explaining the menu. My wife and I took a trip from Montgomery down into Spring Branch for a trip to a wine bar and to dinner at the Blind Goat. The restaurant space was bright and comfortable and the service was very friendly and prompt. Since we had just had a couple of glasses of wine at a wine bar down the road, we didn't participate in any alcoholic beverages so that part of the experience is not included in this review. Straight to the food - For small plates we ordered the Salmon Crudo and the Bahn Khot which are shrimp served on a small crispy wafer and then wrapped in lettuce before dipping in the Fish Sauce Vinaigrette. Both were delicious - the crudo had great textural contrast and the Bahn Khot were very tasty and even though it wouldn't have been intuitive to wrap them in the lettuce it worked really well. We could have used some more lettuce however. For the larger plates we had the Crawfish and Garlic Noodles which hit the spot for a guy who loves his Asian inspired noodle dishes. Lots of crawfish and the noodles were a pleasing texture. The dish that really made he night however was the Caramelized Salmon. The sauce was so savory and the Salmon so perfectly cooked. I'm glad there was enough rice to soak up ever last drop of the sauce. I told my wife, and since then anyone who would listen that this dish would rank up there with the top 2 or 3 things I've ever eaten. Just fantastic. I will be back as long as that dish stays on the menu. We also shared the Rubbish Apple pie which was also very good. Maybe a tad more ice cream would made it perfect. One little bit of criticism was the pace at which the food was delivered. Since we weren't trying to enjoy a bottle of wine, it really didn't matter, but the food all came out so fast that if we wanted to we could have made it a 30 minute meal. Its not often that someone will give points off for too quick of service, but we drove over an hour to get to the restaurant, and had an hour ride home, we probably could have used a little more time to just enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. And if we had ordered wine, the food really would have come out too fast. Wasn't anywhere near a big enough deal to drop a star however. That Salmon was just too good!! I visited here along with 12 other coworkers on a Tuesday night. The first thing I'll say is that we had some last minute additions to our party and considering we had 13 people, our server did a great job taking care of us. Thank you! For the food and drinks, I will say that the drinks are easily a 5/5 stars. Every drink we got was amazing and the mezcal watermelon shots were some of the best I've ever had. The food was a bit disappointing on my end. The dumplings, not pictured, were surprisingly mediocre and tasted like ones you would just get out of a bag. Desserts were ok. Nothing to write home about. The steak with green curry sauce was amazing though along with the salmon, also not pictured. The fried rice was also just ok. I expected more from the food considering that I heard the chef won awards and was on a TV show. The restaurant layout was cool although some of the Asian decorations were a bit tacky. It was also really loud in there and hard to hold a conversation even though it didn't seem like any parties there were speaking loudly. read more

For 3 people, we ordered the crawfish and garlic noodles, the steak with curry sauce (substituted with yellow curry because they were out of the green curry sauce), the shrimp toast, and Mom's eggrolls. Everything was decent, but nothing was overwhelmingly amazing in all honesty. I also felt the noodles and toast specifically were a tad too salty for my liking. Great place to get Vietnamese food whether you need to take on it! My favorite was the pasta, the flavors reminded me of my mom's cooking, it was a bit salty, but but overall very flavorful and juicy. Everything else was great, I would probably pass on the banh kot since that didn't taste anything out of the ordinary that you can get at any other Vietnamese restaurant, the pho cuon was good, but as a someone who has tried that other places, it wasn't crazy. It's a very pretty restaurant, and at night it's quite dark so it's intimate which makes it perfect for a date night. They had both hit or misses for me. Our favorite was the coconut curry mussels, we also had the thit kho shumai, tóm toast, and cá kho. I'm a bit more picky for Vietnamese food, the thit kho shumai & cá kho in my opinion were a bit underwhelming. Salmon doesn't soak up the flavor that well, and the price being $26 just wasn't worth it. Thit kho shumai did not taste much different to me than regular shumai. Loved the pie, did not like the pandan tres leches at all (we did not finish it). It was a really strange flavor despite it sounding good on the menu. A lot of the food on the menu just seemed a bit expensive, especially if you're Vietnamese and know how simple these dishes can be to make. We celebrated an anniversary and the beginning of a vacation with a special visit to The Blind Goat, trying six different dishes from the menu. Each one was creative, looked appealing, and tasted amazing! All of the staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. The cocktail menu also had several creative takes on it (though we only ordered one). We had to make a special trip to Houston to try it all, and are glad we put this on our journey's bucket list! Christina Ha remains one of my all time favorites from Masterchef, and I've been wanting to try The Blind Goat since it was downtown. My sister and I finally made it in, and here is our assessment: The space is cleanly decorated offering a crisp yet welcoming, unfussy atmosphere. The staff is friendly, as well, and I always appreciate when servers genuinely like the restaurant and, more importantly, the dishes they are serving. That was clearly the case with our server, who described each offering with passion and admiration. As for the dishes themselves, the Shrimp Toast was a glorious bite: perfectly crispy, well-seasoned, and the sticky sweet sauce made the magic. The Shumai was on par with other delicious versions we've tried elsewhere. Rounding out the apps were the Egg Rolls, which were on the dry side and were lacking in flavor. On to the larger dishes: the Crawfish Garlic Noodles, were buttery and delicious, but the crawfish were under seasoned. I liked the texture of the Korean sticky rice cake dish, but the honey was too prevalent. We wanted more spice and less sweetness. The Grilled Steak with Green Curry Sauce was just ok. The steak was quite chewy and needed salt, but the sauce was nice and helped boost the flavor. Misses: the dishes were family style servings, and yet they were presented with no serving utensils. Also annoying was that the steak came out with no knife (the place settings at the table consisted of a fork and spoon.) I just think it's really odd to bring steak to a patron without a knife. I was using chopsticks, but these bites were too large and the meat too tough/chewy to eat with chopsticks. We were about to declare the experience a thumbs down when the surprise of the night arrived: the Rubbish Apple Pie à la Mode. Wow!!! This dessert and its many facets was absolutely stunning on the palate. No wonder it impressed Gordon Ramsay. That fish sauce caramel is spectacular... so unique, bringing this apple pie to another level. Even the vanilla ice cream was special: really creamy with a wonderfully natural vanilla flavor. I'm WAY overdue to visit The Blind Goat, so I used Houston Restaurant Weeks as my excuse. As part of our (almost) monthly girls night, I was incredibly excited to introduce my girls to rubbish pie, and indulge in a great meal with great company. I will say, there were hits and misses when it comes to the dishes we tried, but here's why I give this spot 5 stars. The experience itself was one of exploration, variety, and warmth...it always is. The front of the restaurant is moody and light, letting the natural light pepper the dining space, and the middle table (which I call the feature) is set apart from the rest hugged by rope decor in all four corners- I'd personally love to celebrate my birthday there. This year's restaurant week menu explored the cuisine of various countries, the main menu appetizers (the sticky wings in particular) were fabulous, and throughout the meal, I was able to experience flavors I've yet to experience in some time. Did I feel like we had to find our waiter a few times, yes. Was drink service a bit slow, yes. Were we there for nearly three hours, for an experience that likely should have lasted two at the most, yes. But, it was busy, the team was doing their best, and I personally lost time being in the moment, distracted by Chef Ha greeting and taking photos with every table that chose her restaurant to celebrate their birthday. As far as I'm concerned, that what a great meal should be! While we tried quite a bit, I'd recommend visiting the restaurant during happy hour, trying their sticky wings, Mount Fuji cocktail (super refreshing for summer), crab and shrimp cake (if available), basque cheesecake (if available), and rubbish pie, and dining with friends. Expect big bold flavors, and unexpected twists. Truly, this is one of the best spots in the city for a solid family-style dining experience. read more

I dropped in for a quick bite tonight with my sisters, party of 3. We arrived 45 mins before closing time and were promptly seated. I noted the large wraparound bar and cute decor of net curtains w/paper lanterns. Our server was also quick to greet, made several recommendations along with lists of few sold out dishes. Our waters were constantly refilled and empty plates cleared. Apparently some dishes are limited and runs out quick, like the pho cuon. We tried: * Thịt Kho Shumai - a little on the small side but has a nice taste * Shrimp Toast - the presentation was nice but didn't like the way each toast fell apart when picking it up to eat so it required two tries for one piece. I also thought the toasts were too greasy. The sauce was overwhelming, drowning the toasts. I would skip this dish. * Bánh Khọt - lovely presentation with the fresh vegetables and vibrant colors. The flavor was subtle but love the dipping fish sauce. The crispy cakes were way too crispy, felt like I was eating a hard tortilla corn chip. I wouldn't order this again. * Caramelized Salmon Claypot - cooked perfect with the sauce. Highly recommend if you're into claypot, pairs great with the jasmine rice. * Pandan Tres Leche - I'm a huge fan, would come back for this. It was not too sweet and the milk was almost fluffy. I like the hint of pandan flavoring and the pieces of strawberry toppings. They run daily specials Monday through Thursday and currently have a tasting menu special for $49, with $2 benefiting kidsmealinc. I'll have to come back in a Monday for the $1.25 oysters and some of their cocktails. The restrooms are clean and lots of parking spots. read more

We have been here several times and have never been disappointed, but the current menu is the best by far! The Mom's Eggrolls with pork, shrimp and mushroom were fabulous, as was the Thit Kho Shumai dumplings with pork belly. Our server was very prompt and friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. I know some may find the prices per plate a bit high given the sizes of some of the plates, but for this quality we expect to pay more and have no problem doing so. The ambiance has a great balance between classy and casual, and the service was amazing. Shoutout to DONNY!! I definitely recommend coming on Mondays for all day happy hour. Here's my dish ranking from best to worst: Vietnamese Chicken Curry - 5/5 Hands down the best green curry I've ever had. The use of chicken thighs was genius, and the curry itself was so rich and complex. Creamy with the perfect amount of spice. This is a must try. Mom's Eggrolls (happy hour) - 4.8/5 All I'm gonna say is... we ordered these twice. Absolutely scrumptious. Coconut Pandan Tres Leches - 4.7/5 As someone who's Hispanic, I'm picky about tres leches and this one delivered. It was moist and flavorful, though I didn't really pick up on the pandan. Honestly if it were just labeled "coconut tres leches" it might've ranked higher. Still amazing. Brisket Fried Rice - 4/5 So much smoky flavor and the brisket chunks were so good. I just wish there had been more brisket. Without it, it was just smoky rice. I just saw the web sight said it's ketchup fried rice but it didn't taste ketchupy. Oysters with Thai Chile (happy hour) - 3.5/5 Not a big oyster girl, but these were clean and fresh. The sauce was super vinegar forward. Good but not life changing. Pork Belly Skewers (happy hour) - 1/5 The biggest letdown of the night. No char at all and it tasted/ had texture like food court mystery chicken samples. Even the green onions were tough. Skip this one. Drinks I Tried: THC Margarita - 5/5 SO good. Strong but sneaky. It tastes like a mocktail with a bold blueberry twist. You've been warned. Classic Margarita (happy hour) - 4/5 Strong. I asked for the next one to be extra sweet and it was perfect. You can choose mezcal or tequila. Daiquiri (happy hour) - 2/5 Not what I expected. Served martini-style, not frozen. We came here for dinner on a Friday. We tried a few items from the menu: banh khot, brisket fried rice, blistered green beans, and Pandan tres leches. Of the savory items, the banh khot was my favorite. They were a lot tinier than I expected but the flavors were on point. The crispy corn cakes were kind of like a mini tostada and added a nice crunch that paired well with the fresh lettuce and veggies and sharp fish sauce and shrimp. I'd definitely order it again. The blistered green beans had good flavor and were a nice portion, but they could have used some more salt, and there wasn't a shaker available on the table. The brisket fried rice was tasty, but I'd branch out and try something else next time. The Pandan tres leches was fantastic. You could really taste the Pandan, and it was very moist. I'm glad we tried it. I also tried the "play it smart Alec" which was a mocktail with lemongrass syrup, lime, and topo Chico. It was very refreshing, but I would have loved a touch more lemongrass flavor. There's a lot to try on their menu so I'm excited to come back! read more

We chose The Blind Goat because it had a bar and seemed like it might have a nice ambiance. Since we're not familiar with Houston's neighborhoods, the location felt a bit out of place to us. We sat at the bar with the wall behind us, looking out at the restaurant, and weren't quite sure what to make of the thick ropes and/or netting used to divide one of the areas. Overall, the service was okay, the drinks were excellent, and the food was delicious. The prices, however, were on the higher side. BTW, we ordered the sticky wings to take away. This spot is always so consistent with flavorful food and exceptional customer service! This was my very first time here but not my very first time with the chef's food. 1. Parking-easy peasy and a huge shared parking lot in the strip mall. I even got a spot in front. Perfect. 2. Personnel-mostly friendly but also got some passive aggressive behavior from the waiter. I think he was annoyed we asked for smaller containers because he had brought us three large plastic ones. When my friend asked for a smaller one she was thinking of the restaurant and not wanting to waste money because those big plastic containers are expensive. We asians are always looking out for each other because we were trying to save the business we were supporting money. Our waiter was not asian though so maybe he thought it was weird. He brought us a bag to put our containers in and could have put it anywhere else on the table but decided to plop it on the one spot where there was this brown sticky sauce from the salmon. Felt oddly passive aggressive. Obviously we removed the bag immediately but man, that was uncalled for. This is coming from someone who takes note of those things because I used to do little things at work to make me feel better too but not at the expense of customers. 3. Food and drinks-I made the mistake and the bonus of getting the hemp spirit and drank it too fast. I got high almost immediately when I took too long of a sip. Now I know but I am all for it if you can have it. What a progressive and amazing place to offer such a drink and from a Houston based company, 8th Wonder. The food was really tasty. We especially loved the carpaccio and its wonderful flavors of acid mixed with crunchy textures. We tried it all. The dumplings were good but nothing we would get again. Mom's egg rolls were filled with deliciousness. The salmon was flavorful. Crawfish and garlic noodles were also rich and tasty. I wish the noodles were just a smidge firmer but still pretty good. We got the rubbish cake for dessert and I had had this before at the food stand inside Bravery Chef Hall and it was also tasty. The specials they have throughout the week are worthy as is the 5-6 daily happy hour. You can get the best bang for your buck doing those. Glad to have tried it and we will be back! read more

My friends and I made reservations at the Blind Goat for 5:45 on Sunday evening. They did not require that the full party was present for individuals to be seated, so I was able to be seated upon arrival while waiting for the rest of the party of 5. The waitress was super helpful and let me know that happy hour ended at 6pm so I quickly ordered a drink and once the rest of the group joined, everyone quickly ordered to take advantage of the happy hour pricing. The food and drinks arrived promptly and both the plating and taste were 10/10. I will list at the end of the review everything that was ordered. We also ordered several medium dishes as shared entrees to eat family style which worked out perfectly. It was especially nice that for the mussels dish, they provided us with the same amount of bread as the group size so everyone could have one. That was incredibly considerate of the kitchen! The entrees came out quickly as well. Finally, we ordered dessert and it was also delicious and large enough to be evenly shared among 5 people. All in all, this was an amazing dining experience. The decor inside was beautiful, and I've heard about The Blind Goat for years and this dinner lived up to and exceeded my expectations! 10/10 recommend order: thit kho dumplings, pork belly skewers, crispy Parmesan fries and banh khot, oysters with Thai chile mignonette, coconut curry mussels, caramelized salmon and goat express lo mein. read more
