This place was a great find! Very well cooked food and the potions are very large. I was only able to eat half of everything pictured and it cost about $16. The only complaint is the grits, eggs and hash browns had no salt or pepper. It's provided on the table but it's much better if the seasoning happens during cooking. Ordered the eggs benedict - the eggs were hard boiled sadly sitting on top of the muffin with a smattering of hollandaise sauce which was tasteless. I sent them back and the server was more than happy to take them back, however they were still on my bill - which again they backed out the charge. My husband got an omelet and pancakes which he said was very good. The restaurant is extremely small and because of that the door was open and closed frequently with people coming and going - needless to say the seating is in such a small area it was hard to stay out of the cold air. I highly doubt I will be going back - not sure how they had a 4 star in yelp - I don't normally pass on negative energy however the 4 star should probably be more like a 1 - 2 star for this establishment. New to the area so I am relying on reviews - most are a hit - this one is a miss. read more

Anne's is a small restaurant that looks and feels like a coney island restaurant (for those of you blessed enough to live near one) on the inside. We opted to sit outside because it was so loud when we walked in. Service was slow, but our waitress was so nice and friendly at the end that I bumped it from 1 to 2 stars. Let's start with the positives. My husband lucked out with his breakfast. The biscuits and gravy had a great flavor and the gravy had a nice consistancy. The biscuits were light, fluffy, and enjoyable. His scrambled eggs were excellent. Cooked perfectly. The sausage patties were . . . odd, but good. Surprisingly good. It tasted like they took Italian sausage out of the casing, flattened it, and used it as breakfast sausage patties. The food should be the star at all restaurants, and we had several misses here. For example, the apple cinnamon buttermilk pancakes had WAY too much cinnamon on the apples. Even with only of a teaspoon worth of the apple in a bite, it was overpowering. The apple cinnamon topping was sandwiched between the two pancakes, so you couldn't scrape it off easily as the pancakes fell apart when you lifted the top one to get to the bottom. My daughter ate four bites and left the rest on her plate. My husband ate a few bites around the outside that hadn't been touched by the topping, but it was so dry he gave up. Likewise, the buttermilk pancakes with fresh strawberries and whipped cream were dry, and if there hadn't been syrup, I would only have eaten a few bites. The strawberries were fresh and delicious. As a whole, the pancakes were dry and kind of crumbled apart. They desperately needed butter, but there was none on them or on the table. All of us like Belgian waffles. However, Anne's Belgian waffles are so sweet, they need to be on a dessert menu, not offered as a traditional Belgian waffle. I talked to our server, and she said waffles come to them with sugar crystals in the waffle, so they can't do anything about it. Are they using store bought, frozen waffles? If so, they need to stop and make their own, or order from a different company, or offer these with whipped cream and strawberries and put them on a dessert menu instead of the breakfast menu. There were 4 of us, and nobody liked the waffles. I hope your experience is better than ours was, and that we were just there on a bad day. read more

During my stay in Columbus, I was looking for a small "diner" type of place to try breakfast. I'm glad I found Anne's Kitchen! I got there early, shortly after opening and after reviewing their small menu, I decided on trying the "Scrambled Egg Delight", eggs with spinach, mushrooms, cheese and served with a choice of breakfast meats, hash brown casserole, 2 biscuits and a cup of sausage gravy for $12. I selected sausage patties and they were excellent. The entire breakfast was very generous in size. I took half of it with me to enjoy as a second meal. The sausage patties were well seasoned and delicious and full of meaty flavor. They were cooked perfectly. The scrambled eggs were great--both soft and fluffy. The sausage gravy went perfectly with the biscuits. I guess I didn't understand the concept of the "hash brown casserole". The potatoes had no flavor at all and I tried to generously sprinkle salt and pepper on top, but it didn't really help. I guess I would have preferred standard grilled hash potatoes instead of the "casserole". As you can see in the photos it just appears to be a large mound of undercooked potatoes, but they were certainly cooked, but flavorless. The cafe itself was smallish and with a counter which most customers seemed to prefer. The staff was friendly and and very efficient. Not sure when I will be back in Columbus, but I will be returning to Anne's Kitchen for the same breakfast again?! read more

We were in town for a wedding and decided to give Anne's a try, and were glad we did! The food was great, and if you're a fan of sausage gravy then I highly recommend the breakfast bowl. The sausage patties in the bowl were absolutely delicious. They were thick, perfectly seasoned and tasted so fresh--certainly not the typical thin, processed kind. I've never met him, never even seen him but boy have I heard him. The way this guy shouts at people in the restaurant you can tell he thinks he's Gordon Ramsey. This place is the deal for southern comfort food. Everything cooked fresh and to perfection, fast and friendly service, plus prices that can't be beat. Ordered the country fried steak which was pounded thin and tender, breaded and fried to a crisp and then smothered in a creamy, peppery sawmill gravy. The mashed potatoes were also covered in delicious gravy, but underneath they were creamy-soft and buttery. Definitely more whipped than mashed and definitely something you want more of. The green beans were slow-cooked with bacon and possibly ham hocks. There was a deep, rich flavor and the beans melted in your mouth. A thickb fluffy biscuit with butter helps you mop the plate clean. Overall, a can't miss if you like downhome real southern cooking. If you're scared of seasoning or like bland food, maybe hit a chain. This is the type of spot a flavor aficionado loves - didn't even reach for the salt or pepper. We arrived right at noon on a Saturday. The place has some great old time pictures on the walls from Powell's old days. Our waitress, Bronwyn, immediately greeted us and took our drink order while we looked at the menus. We've been here for breakfast before ( which I highly recommend) but, this time we decided on lunch items. My dining companion got the Monte Christo sandwich. This was my second visit here. Although this is a decent diner, it lacks the WOW Effect. The food is good but does not make you feel like you can't wait to come back for more. I had the Ribeye with eggs, cheese potatoes, rye toast, and a side of cinnamon apples along with a hot chocolate. Steak was cooked properly but had no flavor. Both the eggs and potatoes tasted okay. The cinnamon apples were the highlight of the meal. Apples sliced thin and plenty of cinnamon. The restaurant is clean and well lit. Our server was friendly and very helpful with menu questions. He said it was good. I ordered the crab cake eggs Benedict with crab cakes on side (I didn't anticipate finishing it and didn't want the hollandaise sauce to wilt them). (Note this selection does not come with Canadian bacon)I also ordered the hash brown casserole. Excellent portion. I was definitely full. My husband ordered a bowl and said it was made good and great portion (he brought the left overs home ). Just a few issues on why not 4 stars: 1. We were sitting at the bar stools so I could see the folks making the food. No one used gloves. All barehanded. 2. The orange juice was the kind you can buy at Kroger for $2.99 a gallon yet we were charged $3.10 a cup. My kind of place! Anne started this sweet little hometown diner in Powell 5 years ago after waitressing for over 30 years! Denny got his fallback biscuits 'n gravy (yum!) with scrambled eggs and home fries and onions. I ordered one egg with cheddar and mushrooms (that couldn't be just one egg, but can't complain). We went for lunch today and were very excited to give this place a try. Sadly this didn't turn out to be a good experience at all. We sat down in the back by the kitchen and were immediately greeted. Our server was the best part of our dining experience. Very helpful and kept checking back on us. The cook complained the entire time we sat there. His girlfriend or friend stood at the window right next to our table nearly the entire time. We got beignets to start. They were good but also very small and burnt. I've had beignets all over and the 4 we got would be equal to a little over one every where else. Not worth the price. I ordered the meatloaf and fries. The meatloaf was also burnt and they didn't put any cheese on it. The fries were not good either. No flavor and even with ketchup was still not good. My wife said her mashed potatoes were warm in some spots and cold in others. The green beans were like out of a can. She also got a biscuit and when I asked how her food was said did you see me finish the biscuit? That's how bad it was. The bright spot was our daughters food. She had the chili and hash browns. She enjoyed both. With so many good options in Powell I think I'd look elsewhere if you're in the area. Based on other reviews I think we just had some bad luck but it's a one time stop for us. This was a great little brunch spot we stopped at after an overnight at the Columbus Zoo. It was tucked away in a strip mall but had covered seating outside and diner seating inside. They bused a table for us quickly and we were able to sit down right away. I had the Reuben Omelet and my friend had the Fried Green Tomato Omelet. The Reuben Omelet was fantastic!! I would have never thought to put the ingredients from the sandwich into an Omelet but it worked for me!! My friend really like hers too. Friendly staff and quick service! Anne's is such a hidden gem! We've lived in Powell a few years but never knew about Anne's until recently. It's small, with an old diner atmosphere, but the food is amazing! Visited 7/18/18 My last visit was so fantastic that I decided to bring my family here when they came in from out of state. Alas this visit was the extreme opposite of my last visit and I was very embarrassed to have brought my family here for a terrible experience. The only 2 high chairs that they have both have broken buckle straps. One high chair is less broken than the other but both are a real safety issue. The bathrooms looked clean but the hall way and bathrooms themselves smelled terrible. We arrived about 12:10, took a few minutes to look over the menu and then we placed our order. The place was not busy at all, there was 2-3 tables that were either leaving or already eating. It took 40 minutes to get our food. What frustrates me was that there was only 1 other tables worth of food came out during that time. We were sitting right next to the window where the food came out. When our food hit the window and the cook yelled order up, he looked at me and said sorry your food took so long. He then realized that the server wasn't coming so he walked around and delivered our food. The food was not as good as the last time I was there, I ordered exactly the same thing, the creamed chipped beef meal. My family was also disappointed in the quality of the food they received. A side of fruit had mold on many of the grapes which left me with not much fruit to eat. Tip, I called back later that day (after 2:00)to speak with a manger about my experience but they don't answer their phone after they are closed.
