Ordered a to go order this morning. Chicken Fried Steak 26.00 the order was missing the toast steak was burnt and the eggs were cooked to death. Called to notify the establishment my order was missing an item and the quality of the food. Diana got on the phone and was a total B. I called her for her sarcasm. Guess, she couldn't handle that and said she would be reporting me to the police! Really, for stating this establishment charged me $26 and didn't complete my order and the food sucks. Today is the first time I ate here and I have to say it's worth it. I will recommend this restaurant to anyone. I love the cute building that it is in not to mention when you walk in it has a really great atmosphere. I can not remember what our servers name was but she was extremely friendly. The number one thing I love about this restaurant is that it does indeed have gluten free options so this place is great for people like my husband who has celiac disease and can not eat gluten at all. Came here with family and friends for brunch on Sunday. The wait was not to bad really for 3 adults and 4 kids. The staff seems nice and took good care of once she found out she had us as a table. The food was ok. I had chicken fried steak and it came out with lots of weird seasoning on which sorta threw off the flavour. It did not look like all the pic's other have posted, I asked for over easy eggs they where med well, my wife had to send her eggs back cause they were very well done and she had ordered med eggs. The place is cute and I really had high hopes for this place but it really hit zero special buttons. Hope others had better luck then we did. read more

Hash browns tasted like cooking spray, neither I nor my wife had more than 2-3 bites. Coffee was good but like many breakfast places, no spoon was provided. My long awaited first meal at Annette's! On a Sunday right after 10am we were quoted 30 minutes for 2. Luckily about half way through the wait we were able to grab a spot at the bar (bar area is first come first serve). No major complaints here, just some suggestions! Don't pass your opportunity to order homemade potato cakes as your potato choice. I was lucky enough to get one from my boyfriend. Way better than country potatoes shown here. Stick with traditional sausage gravy over chorizo. The chorizo had good flavor but it wasn't "gravy" enough, mostly just traditional with a minimal amount of actual gravy. The spicy Bloody Mary was definitely mediocre, nothing special and the mix is super thick compared to some. The breakfast portions are huge and definitely get your moneys worth. Really glad we stumbled upon Annette's! Service was fast and super friendly. Not being from the west coast, I'd describe it as an east coast diner feel. As a "measuring stick" for first time breakfast spots, I always get two eggs over easy with hash browns and a side of meat. I love that they offer a mix of bacon and sausage links. The eggs were cooked properly, hash browns were nice and crispy, bacon is thick cut and the sausage links were huge and super flavorful. The portions are this place were huge! Everyone that left before us had a to go container so you certainly get your moneys worth. Servers are constantly walking around refilling coffee and taking care of customers. I have attempted coming here over the weekend several times, and I highly recommend coming on a weekday. The wait is 0-5 minutes on a weekday versus up to 1.5 hours on a weekend. It's a pretty popular place around here is seems. Quick in and out breakfast joint with huge portions! We ordered Haystack and Taco Omelette. Both were delicious and came with an option of potatoes (of your choice), and toast (of your choice). Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Annette's Westgate Cafe has been in Salem for many a year. The food has always been tasty, it still is. You can get breakfast, lunch and dinner there and be quite happy. They are fully open now and the place is quite clean. We lover their salads. They have several. Try the Cobb, you can't go wrong. They also have a breakfast gravy that is just super. Four stars for the food, three for the interior/decoration, but five for the service!!! My sister and I shared the hobo scramble with Oktoberfest sausage and YUM! We got it with a potato pancake and it was sooo good. Both were so savory and tasty. Our sons each got a kids meal, where we were able to sub fresh fruit for hash browns. Attentive and helpful service with really good food! I had the Easter Brunch special of duck confit frittata topped with Hollandaise and my Hubbie had the hearty fajita salad. We came here about 9:30am on a Sunday. We had a group of eight and it was pretty busy. They told us it would be about 20 minutes which was okay because we were still waiting for 2. We were seated in less than 10 minutes but it was in the corner behind the hostess stand. Our table kind of stuck out into the main walkway. Most in our group have been here several times and it has always been very good. That is why we chose to come here today, our experiences have always been a solid 4 or 5. Our drink orders were taken as we perused the menu. When the beverages arrived we placed our food orders. 45 to 50 minutes later our food arrived. Most of the orders had problems with them. For example, there was not supposed to be any sour cream on the burrito. The 8 oz chicken fried steak was cold. One of the orders had white toast instead of wheat. The fruit crepe special had a piece of onion and pepper in it. One of the orders and some of the sides were delivered later. We had to ask for two biscuits that were not delivered. They attempted to deliver an extra side of sour dough toast that was not ordered. We also noticed a table of six seated after us nearby had their food delivered before us and left before us. I had the Texas melt (burger patty, bacon onion rings, barbecue sauce, gouda cheese on Texas toast) with tater tots. I had asked for Swiss cheese instead of Gouda but did not get it. My wife had the Grande burrito. We both enjoyed our meals but my wife had to take the sour cream off because she ordered it without. Some of our group enjoyed the food that they ordered and the portions were quite large. However, our orders were really messed up and they were much slower than any of us had experienced here before. Not sure what happened but $140.00 later plus tip and we were all disappointed with the experience. Not sure when or if we will be back. read more

This USED to be my favorite neighborhood spot for huge breakfasts, value lunches and great dinners. Between breakfasts and dinners we ate here ten times a week. Not any more. Annette is gone. The new owner has raised prices, cut the menu and portions. No happy hour menu or daily specials. The pictures of food portions and the menu are ten years old. Basic bacon and eggs breakfast is now 18 bucks and I get the same amount with an egg McMuffin meal. Very sad to see it deteriorate, if you are looking at reviews disreguard anything earlier than 2022 as both Anette and Brian are gone now. read more

Came in for breakfast with family. The waitress was very nice and prompt. The mene had a lot to choose from. I settled on the haystack which was a lot of hash browns, a meat of your choice (i picked bacon) and two eggs. The hash browns were good and seasoned, but the bacon tasted like it had been sitting for awhile and the eggs were over done. It was slightly better than Denny's because it had larger portions, but still needs more quality control. read more

This is a great place Yelpers. Not only do they have a large menu of great looking stuff but they also have alcohol. I got a tuna melt was pretty damn good and I also ordered their side salad which was outstanding. My coworker ordered the curry soup of the day and said it was great. I have to mention, I'm a visual orderer and all the breakfast plates coming out looked magnificent but we were there for lunch. My crêpe was cold when served and not much communication with the waiter and I got the wrong crêpe because I thought it was a plain lemon zest crêpe, but it was compounded with lots of blueberry and sauce so maybe that's what made it cold, but the service was very passive aggressive like so many people are, but we know that we will definitely not return it. We have been visiting this eatery for 20+ years, I would venture to say we have probably never had a bad meal, or really been disappointed. Last night is the exception, very sadly. We should've known when we pulled up on a Friday night at 6:30 and there was only three tables filled. What has happened to this place? We had a wonderful waitress, we got our food pretty quick...it very simply just wasn't the same. And can we say overpriced? Halibut fish n chips (4 very small pieces) was "warm" and not crispy in the least. Prices have definitely gone up. That wonderful salad bar (a huge draw!) that everyone loved? Scaled way down and looked sad. Where are the old, wonderful staff? We will try again for breakfast. But will only try one more time. Too bad. read more

Amazing food! I usually come for breakfast and am never disappointed with the quality. The biscuits and gravy are heavenly and not to be missed. I will say with the new ownership portion sizes, especially the omelettes, have gone down a good amount. The omelette that I would have ordered a few years ago that could last for two meals is now a meal that probably won't produce many leftovers. I was meeting up with my mom in Salem for breakfast and after a little research and scoping the menu I decided on Annette's. When we arrived it was a nice looking place, clean with lots of friendly and attentive staff. I was super excited to try the breakfast quesadilla because it was different from the usual fare. It did not disappoint! It was huge, fully loaded, and super flavorful. They also have really good guac that comes with it (like what I make at home good). I went with the potato cakes just to find out what they were. Delicious is what they were! I thought it would just be a plain potato that was in cake form (kind of like at fast food places). But no, they ARE crisped to perfection and I'm not sure what all is in them, but I will just say once you have them you'll never choose just hash browns or potatoes again. My partner was happy that it was way too much food because he loved helping me with my leftovers. My mom just wanted a simple breakfast of a biscuit and gravy with eggs and sausage. Everything was prepared great and she definitely was not prepared for the size of a single biscuit with gravy. She had lots to take home too. She really enjoyed everything and I tasted the gravy - it was delish. Now I'm just unhappy that it's not here in Salem because honestly, this would be my breakfast spot.
