On a good note the broccoli bites and breaded mushroom appetizers were good. Food went downhill from there. Burgers were over priced (between $12-$14). The chicken parm was hard. The fresh cut fries were burnt even tho the waitress/barmaid said that was how they were supposed to be. I tried adding salt and catsup to them but that did not help AND we were not offered another option, although they had other choices on the menu. Two of us had those fries and left them, uneaten. The gun for "fountain" drinks like coke or club soda we were told were not working. How can that be in a "bar"? Canned was the only choice that afternoon. The waitress/barmaid, I forgot what she wanted to ne called, reminded us, there were 5 of us that day, that she, pretty much was not a waitress, eluding to letting us know that next time we should come to her at the bar. We were in no rush and we told her that since the place was crowded and she was at working alone, yet she was sparky and had an attitude from the get go. This place gets 5 stars for burgers, 2 stars for table service, 5 stars for barstool service. Unless you are a local at this watering hole, the bar maids will ignore you if you sit at a table. For faster service, go up to the bar to order drinks and food if you do not get a seat at the bar. The timing for eating is hit or miss. Plan to have patience and just wait for your food. The large burgers are huge in size. Small burgers are huge as well. We haven't ventured out on anything but burgers because frankly, that's what they are know for. It's a shot and a beer kinda place. So, during these COVID times, we needed to find a place that didn't close at 10pm or earlier. We did our search and found the Annex Bar. I've been here before for takeout in the past year, as I've read that this is one of Cleveland's best "hole-in-the-wall" bars. This being the first time I've dined-in, initial impression was that the place seems out-of place. It doesn't seem like the place you would find in "this part of town." The crowd and the staff are friendly, almost like a "Cheers" feel when you walk-in and see everyone engaging with one another. After a beer or so, all the judgement went away and we just had a great time. I ordered "Rick" Burger basket and my friend got the "Patty" melt basket. The fries are similar to fair-style fries, small shoestring size fries with skin on it and freshly cut and cooked. The burgers were meaty and juicy, hand-patty and made to order. The special "Rick" sauce wasn't anything special to me, I thought it was mostly Mayo, but it was very enjoyable to eat because of the quality burger. I would recommend this place; very nostalgic for me. Reminds me of the types of places I used to go to in my early 20's. I never knew about this place until recently even having spent quite some time in Solon. There's actually plenty of parking and the bartender/server was super warm and nice. I got a burger here with sweet potato fries and they were the crunchiest sweet potato fries ever! They were served with honey which I've never had before and it's a great idea! My friend got regular fries and they were unseasoned and skinny, unfortunately. The chairs were really uncomfortable and there were too many at every table, which made it hard to move around. But yeah, nice to cross off a decent place to get lunch in Solon! read more

I came on a Monday and was able to get a seat at the bar. The bar service was great, the food did take awhile but I expected that and it wasn't excessive. I ordered a small burger and 6 Cajun rubbed wings with a side of the hot sauce. The burger was great. Very juicy and flavorful. The wings were served very well done which is a bit overcooked for my taste but the rub was good and the sauce was your normal tasty Buffalo sauce. The Annex is an absolute hidden gem in Solon. Nestled among houses in a residential area, it would be easy to drive right past and not even notice. It's a dive bar for sure, but is very clean and has amazing food. The atmosphere is extremely friendly, and everyone who works there makes you feel like they are very glad you are there. The entire menu is fresh. The food can take a bit longer than other places, but that is because everything is fresh and made to order. You won't find any frozen beef patties here. Unfortunately I had some disappointments starting with the selection of beer-if you want any craft beer besides Great Lakes you're out of luck. I hate leaving reviews like this and honestly I am really disappointed in giving this review. I came here with someone who was very excited to share this bar with me because he loves their burgers. We sat at the bar which maybe had five or six other people sitting at it. The bartender did serve us drinks pretty quickly but for some reason ignored our request for a menu for at least 10 minutes and she wasn't honestly doing anything. We then had to wait probably another 15 minutes to finally order food. We tried to get her attention several times as she walked past us but she blatantly ignored us. It was not loud in there. She did finally take our order but she was extremely rude and it appeared to be an inconvenience. I don't know if we weren't the typical clientele or if it was that we were just not regulars but I honestly was appalled by the service we received. I ordered the shroom burger which was mushrooms grilled onions bacon and I picked Swiss cheese. If I had known it was going to be the Kraft single comparison to a slice of cheese I would've gotten no cheese at all. But honestly the burger was very good - well seasoned and juicy. The bun was toasted which I appreciate - the extra effort it really adds a lot to a burger for me. Also I enjoyed their french fries. The guy cooking at the grill was super friendly came over and asked us how our food was which I appreciated after the service we received from the bartender. I'm pretty much a positive Yelper. I'm very tolerant of nuances and variance in how a restaurant operates. But I have to sound the alarm to Annex Bar; you're losing your burger soul, and it hurts. My family and I have been huge supporters and have referred tons of people to your cool divey bar for many years, but sadly, that may have to end. The reason? The burgers. For some reason, the magic has gone. What used to be this wonderful umami filled patty of delight has become something that is really dull. We were regulars, usually once every other week. You had become a part of the vernacular of our family; "hey, Annex tonight?" February of 2017, something changed. The burger became flavorless. No more of that wonderful beefy, well seasoned smell, with the perfectly balanced flavor. Also, somehow medium became medium well to well done, and medium rare became the best shot at a decent burger. IMHO, it's 911 time here Annex Bar. We've been 5 times since February and every time it's been consistent. Boring and borderline bad. Now, the service every time has been great. Very friendly and welcoming, almost to the point of making the mediocre food irrelevant. But just as much as bad service can make great food bad, great service can't mask bad food. It's just the way it is (sorry servers, we tipped you well though). Please Annex, you changed something. You need to go back to late 2016 to figure out what happened. Honestly, I've lived in the area and pass this daily for over 3 years and I am appalled that I never ever knew what it was! The first time we got food was about 3 weeks ago and I have been back twice since! The burgers are AMAZING! And very reasonably priced. I am a huge fan of fried broccoli and to see it on their menu more than delighted me! And the taste... OMG! I will definitely be going back if for nothing else it will for for the fried broccoli! For some reason it's been super hard to find! I must say that while I enjoyed the wings, I wasn't thrilled to pay $1 per wing, but I'm also cheap! I love that the food is made fresh to order, even if it take a little while - I'll wait got a great mea! The Annex isn't exactly the type of place you'd normally find me. I like hole-in-the-wall bars, but this place is really more of a forgotten hideaway than a hidden gem. The atmosphere is dark, everything is old and outdated and it was cramped. It was also cramped because it was crowded, which means people love this place. There are some good reasons to- the bartenders and owner were really great. Fast service, good pours, friendly, and hospitable. The owner saw our large group and came over to set up a table for us right away. The drinks were cheap and I like their monthly specials. The thing that will get me back in the door is the food. My burger was really- I mean REALLY good. I didn't get any fries or sample any other food, but my compadres all enjoyed their food as well. We went because it was a top vote getter in the Cleveland.com vote for best burger in Cleveland. There are only a few tables in the bar and a few booths in the back with the pool table. I only saw 2 bartenders/servers working pretty hard although the place was about 75 percent capacity. The ambience is dive bar, service was okay, food was okay. Certainly not the best burger I have ever had. Very thick in the middle like a meatball. Fries were what I would call fair fries, thin and very greasy. Now here's the bad part and the reason for 2 stars. It took an hour and 20 minutes to get the first plate of food served and another 10 minutes for the second plate. Burger was warm, not hot so clearly it was sitting back there for a while. And most importantly, this is a place for regular customers and I got the impression that they want to keep it that way. Everyone seems to know each other and the servers know them too. They get preferential treatment. The table next to us got an appetizer in 15 minutes while we had been waiting for an hour already. Not fair nor kind to do that. The regulars can keep it to themselves as far as I'm concerned because I don't have to be treated that way for a burger and fries. They must have had an all-out campaign to vote it the best burger by voting many times. Prices are pretty low but so is the quality. I'd rather pay more and be treated fairly than get cheap food and treated like an outsider. We won't go back. This is a nice hidden gem. I come here often but always seem to miss the kitchen. I heard the burgers were great so decided to give it a try, and some wings too. Well the burger lived up to the hype. I had the small burger you can get all the fixings. It was very delish and juicy. Fresh cut fries came with the burger, which are my fave. Soooo, the wings not so great. No flavor although I had spicy garlic and just not good. The bartender and the cook are always so nice and tonight there was no exception. Keep it simple, stupid. Annex does. If you drive by Annex, you ask yourself "why does that house have a big parking lot?" Well, that house is not a house but in fact it's a dive bar with a limited food menu. But with that limited food menu, you really do have some simple but spectacular bar food, focusing on burgers and fries. The burgers are fresh and stored in the kitchen fridge. The flat top is basically in the bar so you get a front row seat for your dinner. The fries are potatoes that are pressed a few minutes before dropping in the deep fryer, so you literally can't get a fresher fry. You want fancy? I think there's other places that can accommodate you, because Annex definitely isn't that. You can probably show up by yourself, but it's probably best to bring a friend or 10 because it seems like everyone here knows one another and knows the bar staff. Apparently there's a ton of regulars, but everyone was nice and they served beer, cold beer, so what's not to like? If I could give a draft beer, burgers, and fries joint 5 stars, I would.
