Keep it simple, stupid. Annex does. If you drive by Annex, you ask yourself "why does that house have a big parking lot?" Well, that house is not a house but in fact it's a dive bar with a limited food menu. But with that limited food menu, you really do have some simple but spectacular bar food, focusing on burgers and fries. The burgers are fresh and stored in the kitchen fridge. The flat top is basically in the bar so you get a front row seat for your dinner. The fries are potatoes that are pressed a few minutes before dropping in the deep fryer, so you literally can't get a fresher fry. You want fancy? I think there's other places that can accommodate you, because Annex definitely isn't that. You can probably show up by yourself, but it's probably best to bring a friend or 10 because it seems like everyone here knows one another and knows the bar staff. Apparently there's a ton of regulars, but everyone was nice and they served beer, cold beer, so what's not to like? If I could give a draft beer, burgers, and fries joint 5 stars, I would. I've never eaten here. And frankly, I never would. Everything is dirty and covered in a mixture of dust and cobwebs. More power to those brave enough. I went tot he Annex once when they had lights on and had to leave it was so dirty. However, at night when all you want to do is get hammered - this place is great. It's location is pretty central and it's almost always packed full of people. Drinks are cheap and strong. Bartenders have their favorites & if you're not one of them it takes a while to get served. There are a lot of locals who frequent this place, making it a great place to go after a long night of work. read more

I am giving the Annex Bar 4 stars because that's what its average rating currently is, and I don't want to actually change its rating since I went there but didn't purchase anything. Nice homey dive-bar atmosphere. Just a warning for those of you who want to visit but aren't familiar with this area. Google maps and navigation take you to the wrong location when you search for Annex. If you type in the actual address it should work fine. Google has the Annex confused with the Glenwillow Grille, which is about 2.5 miles west on Pettibone. I met some coworkers there for drinks, and several of us ended up across town and had to turn around because we had looked up the location on Google maps. read more

It got the mild buffalo wings. Plenty of meat on the bones, delicious sauce. Sampled the tater tots and The Golfer burger. The tots were extra crispy, delicious and not soggy. The Golfer burger was delicious, interesting and, for lack of a better word, burgery. Great service, great food. read more

The burgers are grilled and greasy delicious. French fries crispy and brown. Chicken wings... especially the garlic Parmesan are my favorite. Service is slow because you have one bartender who is also the waitress. During the summer you can sit outside at a picnic table...because this is NOT a place for kids. My last few reviews have been all 5 stars. I guess I am either in a really good mood lately, or the places I keep discovering are that awesome. I went to Annex Bar for lunch today. My friend at work showed me a picture of a beat down looking white house. He said the burgers are supposed to be fantastic. I try to stay away from eating burgers. I may have one every couple of months. Today, I am glad I had one. I find this burger to be one of the best in recent memory. People keep talking about Lolita Burgers, B-Spot and the countless other new fancy places opening up. Annex is the polar opposite of these fancy new gourmet burger joints. When you open up the outer door, you smell the many years of cigarette smoking in the entrance. I started to like it immediately. Inside, there are old, yellowish ceiling tiles. A lot of old beer signs. A few friendly patrons sitting at the bar having cold ones. This is the way bars are supposed to be. This bar is one of the last of the Mohicans. What shocked me most was that it was in Solon of all places. One of the most corporatized and generic places in the Cleveland area. The burger is thick and seems to be a hand formed patty. The bun was buttered and toasted. The beef tasted like good quality meat. I don't know if they gave the cow a rub down or if it was from a farmer in Wooster, but it was good to me. My friend said his burger was also outstanding. I can't think of a better place to eat a restaurant style, thick hamburger. Before you go to Flip Side, B Spot or any of those places, come here. Or come here after. And I will let you decide who has the better burger. I think this place trumps all. And it is better than Whiteys! read more

Shot and a beer place that is a bit of a dive if a sterile chain is your idea of what a bar should be. If you want a fancy drink or exotic meal, you'd be better served going somewhere else. If you go to bars to drink beer, eat standard bar food and talk with friends, then you'll probably enjoy the place. The burgers are well cooked (always medium rare for me) and large. My bf lives in Solon, and recently while visiting him, we found ourselves out late, looking for somewhere to have a drink. He'd known about The Annex for years, but had never ventured inside, so we decided to give it a try, so glad we did. The drinks are strong, the prices are cheap, and the environment is comfortable and quaint. We wound up here a couple of nights, and Laura was the bartender there every time we were. Laura is great! She actually really seems to have a great knowledge of the liquor they have, and let me tell you, they have a HUGE selection of liquor, one of the best I've ever seen... they had a decent selection of bottled beers, but didn't seem to be much of a wine joint. Laura was constantly recommending new drinks for me based on my tastes, and honestly, I'm sad to say that I've got to expand my home liquor collection by 5 bottles thanks to her advice. Every time we went to the bar it was a bit too late for food, however one night we walked in the kitchen was just closing, and the smells were amazing, I almost kicked myself for not coming 30 minutes earlier. Wholly amazing hole in the wall! This place has the best burgers I have tasted in Solon. From what I was told it's "Solon's little secret". It's the typical dive bar with a decent beer selection, friendly service and bar food. I had their Shroom burger. It's a big fat juicy patty on a standard Orlando bun sautéed over butter paired with a "healthy" amount of mushrooms and bacon... However fries are greasy but did that stop the inner "Homer Simpson" in me?... Nope. It's a good and slightly entertaining side stop for sure. :) read more

This place has the best burger ever! Small draft beer selection but the fresh cut french fries and amazing burgers make up for it. You have to try the Rick burger! My only complaint is that they charge 1.00 every time you use your credit card. I work with credit card merchants and the most they would charge is 5%. To me that's just a dishonest way to make more money. read more

I am a huge fan of hole-in-the-wall spots. I much prefer them over sterile bars without much character. The bartenders are always friendly and there's a good selection of beers on draft and in bottle. The monthly drink specials are also a plus. Foodwise, I have never been disappointed with the food I've ordered. The burgers are freshly made and are massive. I typically order a mini burger and that's more than enough! The fries are fresh cut and you get a big portion when you order. All in all, one of my favorite places to stop at when I'm in the Solon area. read more

Excellent dive bar. The atmosphere was definitely a small grubby bar, but I love those so it was great! I stopped there with a friend for after work drinks and got the draft special, which was blue moon for $3.50. We ended up splitting an order of fried pickles and the flaming burger. Both food items came out piping hot! This was impressive considering I only saw the cook and bartender at work, meaning as soon as the food was on the counter she delivered it promptly. The pickles came with a semi spicy remoulade sauce. They were crispy and vinegary and delicious. We ordered the burger medium and was actually cooked correctly! (A hard find in little dive bars). I was about two bites in when I stopped to exclaim to my friend, "this is really good!". She nodded and also proceeded to scarf down the well made, thick and juicy burger. The fries it came with weren't particularly special, just regular thin cut skin on fries. They weren't heavily salted, or possibly not salted at all, which I like. But table salt and pepper is provided for your seasoning preferences. They have a pool table and keno if you're into that as well as a juke box which was put to good use by many of the patrons. This place gets 4 stars. Would have been a solid 5 but the first bartender we had last night around 5:30ish could NOT have been more unfriendly. Our group of four all felt the same way and wondered what in the hell the issue was. My "thank you's" all received no response not even a smile. When we asked her to repeat the beers on tap as we couldn't hear her she acted as if we asked her to drink a bottle of Clorox. Perhaps just a bad day so I wouldn't let it keep you away. The next younger bartender more than made up for this rude behavior. The woman at the grill was incredibly friendly and courteous. She also made an INCREDIBLE burger. Best I've had in some time. HUGE. The vibe reminds me of the Greenville located in Chagrin Falls. Some good beers on tap. Check it out....worth a shot. We all left thinking that this could be a new hangout. read more

This place looks scary. My fiance heard that they have the best burgers. "They're better than B Spot or Flip Side!", his buddy claimed. We drove by and debated going elsewhere but the parking lot was packed so we went in. The floor is covered in dirt but we sat down hesitantly. Service was okay... We got fried pickles as I do everywhere I go. It came with this weirdo ranch that had cumin in it, we are guessing. It was disgusting so we got regular ranch. We got the Rick and the pizza burgers and split them. Despite ordering them medium they came out dry. It's a very thick burger and I wish it were a wider patty and thinner because the toppings got lost because the patty was so big. Tasty bun and the pizza one was preferred by me but my fiance preferred the Rick better. Needless to say, we won't be back.. Oh, and they charge you $1 to use a credit card. read more

The smell of grease hits you when you walk in but the food is legit, cooked right there but for me the best burgers is in streetsboro. Patty melt was huge but not sure I can say the BEST I've had. In general, I find Solon a bit of a suburban wasteland of spread out strip malls and chain stores. The Annex, however, stands out as a fantastic dive bar. I would go to this bar anywhere, but I appreciate it all the more since it provides welcome relief from Applebees, Tony Roma's, and the like. When I'm in town visiting my folks, this is most definitely my watering hole of choice. I've never tried the food, but it's a great spot for cheap drinks. read more

Wow yes it looks like a scary house bar. You go inside and the scariness becomes friendly. The smell of the fryer is inviting. No healthy eatery but with a few good cold beers order some wings. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this place was. I got the tuna melt with fries and holy cow was it good. The tuna was tasty and you could tell it wasn't some cheap garbage tuna paste - it was quality tuna, done perfectly. The fries were crispy, delicious, and absolutely perfect.
