Cute place to visit for the view of the airplanes flying in and out. The food and service however leave much to be desired. The service was just poor. The hostess couldn't be bothered to smile and say hello. She couldn't be bothered to seat us. When she finally did seat us, of all the places to sit (3 people in our party) she chose to place us at a six person table, which was awkwardly blocking the entrance to the restaurant. The whole time, people who were entering and exiting the establishment were bumping into us. After about ten minutes (still no one had come to greet us or take our orders), we were so annoyed by the poor seating location that we asked to be moved. The hostess moved us, but of course... she had an attitude about it... we were finally seated and served our food. The biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage were of Denny's caliber. This hidden restaurant is a great place for some amazing Mexican food. It's tucked along the 605 freeway in El Monte at the city airport. Stop in. There are plenty of tables inside and some seats outside to watch the planes coming and going. Everything sounded tasty. I had the chile verde omelette which was spicy and perfect. Great, relatively newer restaurant. If you go for breakfast, you'll likely find some of the SGV's oldest citizens. But the ambiance is still cool because there are airplanes! I don't care what anyone says, any place where you can watch airplanes land and take off has already earned three stars in my book. If you sit in the patio and face north on a clear day it looks even better as you get a great look at the SG mountains as well. Anyway, on to the food, since this is a restaurant after all. I've had a couple of things here. I usually get the wet (in red sauce) carne asada burrito plate. This is probably my favorite since I'm incredibly partial to my people's food. Their breakfast burritos are pretty darn good as well. I've had ribs and mashed potatoes for dinner, a chicken quesadilla, and a few more things and I've never been disappointed. This place is really good! It is a bit "out of the way" from typical food establishments, but it is worth the detour. For people who live lives unrelated to aviation, this cafe is randomly placed in a local airport. For people who lives being weekend aviators/aviatrices, this place is centrally placed. Plenty of parking and almost just enough seating on its busiest days (weekends), Annia's is a great place to eat an American-Mexican fusion of diner/breakfast food. I've had their classic breakfast (eggs, pancakes, bacon, biscuits and gravy) and their signature bacon-wrapped shrimp (which is literally to die for). This breakfast was your standard fare that you would get from any diner place, but there is definite quality to it. They have more livelier morning choices (Mexican ingredients and plenty of hot sauce) that I at the time did not have the appetite for, but I hear they're spectacular. As for the bacon-wrapped shrimp, if you have a huge appetite (or want to share with a buddy) and love crispy surf-n-turf, you're in the right place, friend. An exquisite surprise is the fact that not only is there is shrimp inside the bacon-wrap, but crab as well! Because it's a delicacy, it's a little hefty for El Monte prices ($15-$20 dollars I believe), but it's well worth it and the food monster inside of you will appreciate it. Service is usually grade A. I've found myself changing my mind a couple times as to where I want to sit (inside the diner or outside the patio to watch the planes zing by) and the help has always been accommodating. All-in-all, if you want American food with a Mexican flair, I'd go to Annia's. Tip: Eggs benedict is usually only on Saturdays. read more

We ordered the Eggs Benedict and corned beef hash. The food came quickly. Both were excellent. There was a ton of hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict. The corned beef hash was super meaty. The homemade salsas are also very good. I've never put salsa on my eggs benedict, but the salsa verde was so good I had to use it. It went well with the hollandaise sauce. I was dissapointed about this place. We went in for breakfast on a Friday and I had very high expectations on the food. The decor was very similar to what my bachelor pad felt like after a rough party. The ambience resembled a 50's party with some 70 year olds hung-over and passed out on the floor. It's a good thing, I'm licensed for CPR, because over 90 percent of the patrons will need those services very soon. Luckily no one needed my services that morning. But my review on this place is in no way shape or form based on the decor or ambience - however if you are an ambulance chaser this is a prime hang out spot. Now onto the food. I had the huevos rancheros and my wife had their french toast. The huevos rancheros was very bland and the beans were cold. As for the french toast, it was soggy and tasted like card board. On the upside we had a local coupon and our meal only costed us like 8 bucks for 2 people. But I felt like I could have gotten a better meal at office depot eating pen caps and card stock. read more

This place is has AWESOME FOOD! But...The wait time is RIDICULOUSLY LONG Aside from the waiting the food here is great. I ordered the chile verdes con huevos. Which translates to green chilli with eggs. The plate came in 2 parts. One was lean pork pieces covered in green chilli sauce which was a perfect breakfast sauce. It complimented the eggs nicely. The meat was very tender and well cooked. The other place came with my over hard eggs eice and beans. The beans and rice tasted homemade and the eggs. Well their just eggs haha. I did put some of the green chilli sauce on the eggs and my mohth exploded with flavor. It also came with a tortilla. My friend had the hobo omelette with home potatoes I believe. It came with ham, bacon, potatoes and sausage. Topped with cheese. Although the cheese mixed in pretty well. It gave it a nice texture. I took a couple bites of it. I have to say that bacon was very thick and crunchy but oh so tasty. The sausage was good too. Hers came with toast. But same as the tortilla we didnt have any. I just want to say the service was great, everyone I encountered from the fella who seated me and got my beverage quickly to my very attentive server/waitress to the cashier- all were super. My breakfast, (I needed protein) sausage, bacon and eggs were hot, cooked to perfection and tasted good. I don't usually have potatoes or toast but i did crave french toast on this particular day and am glad I did. They were so darn good! A word - Lots of smaller airports (I've been to many) have little to choose from as far as food but Annia's Kitchen is decent and for me, on this visit and others before it, the service and food have been great. Well, there's a first time for everything right? Before going to this place, my girlfriend came to lunch one day with her mom and told me it was a decent place to eat. Watching the scenery of air planes departing and arriving as you have your lunch sounded intriguing. So she decided to take me on a Sunday for lunch, which I was looking forward to. So we arrive and it looked relatively crowded, which gave me a good indication about the place. The hostess advised us that there was a wait to sit outside but if we liked, we could eat inside in any table. I thought that was a bit unorganized. Giving us the option of sitting anywhere inside? We could have sat at a table of 6, yet it was just us two. Anyways. So, someone comes and we put it our order for our drinks, food and the waiting begins......I ordered the carnitas dinner and my gf some type of sandwich. I wasn't sure if they were slaughtering the pig back there or what but they were taking for ever. I had finished my drink, but no one ever bothered to come and asked if i needed a refill, yet alone keeping us updated on our food. I looked around and there were other tables that hadn't been served yet either and had the look in their face like, " where's my effing food". By that time, we where there for about 40 minutes and we still didn't get our food. Not sure if its like this every time but the service and hospitality were very poor. After waiting that long, i told my gf lets go and we walked out. I've never walked out from a place before but this place was a complete disappointment. I can't say the food was great because I didn't even get to taste it but I'm just basing this off their service and I'm definitely not going back to waste my time. I've lived a minute away and have never been here until we invited my aunt and uncle out for dinner and they suggested this place. Now if I only had to review my first time experience it would be mixed. Service was nice and everyone seemed to love their food but I had the special and that was a mistake. My pork chops were dry and tough and bland. The only thing that saved my experience was the navy bean soup. Wow! I am so glad I ordered the soup and to be honest I have only come for their soup since then. I had no idea this place existed until a few days ago. You get to sit wherever you like, and i like that. It's diner food but the portions are huge. And the prices are right. This is the place to go if you have kids that love planes, or even those that don't will get a kick out of the planes coming and going on a clear sunny day. The food was OK nothing special but the atmosphere more than make up for the food. We went today for breakfast and my 7 yr old daughter had a ball. If your lucky the flight school will be going on and you'll see a helicopter come and go. The flights were more frequent than i thought so that was good. Good, clean, local fun food with a twist. Don't come on cloudy or rainy days as you obviously won't get to see any planes coming and going. I will have to come back to try more menu items but the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs was just OK. I've literally lived down the street from here my whole life and never been. Today, I decided to walk here and give it a try. Being the little boy that I am at heart, I requested the patio seating so that I can see the airplanes. It can get a bit noisey when planes/helicopters take off/land but I don't mind it at all. I ordered the Chile Relleno and Enchilada (beef) plate which also comes with beans and rice. Honestly, being that its located in El Monte, I didn't expect the quality of food to be any good but I actually ejoyed my meal. My favorite part was the Chile Relleno, very cheesey! I was surprised to find this place in El Monte. Very comfortable and relaxing. I had lunch here this week. We sat in the patio but since that day was comparatively chilly so we moved back to the indoor. They serve breakfast all day, which was what I had. Very basic scrambled eggs, hash browns, hot cakes and coffee. Food was not outstanding but was good enough for me to go back. Very reasonable price. If it was not chilly, it would be really nice to sit outdoor with a cup of coffee. read more

I'm giving Ania's a full on four - stars that is. As far as airport diners go this place is one of the best in SoCal - great comfort food at great prices. My favorite is the Machaca & Heuvos but you can't go wrong with the pancakes either. It's great to see an airport diner thriving. I'm hoping they start staying open later and later. So far the good 'ole D&D at riverside is the latest open diner that I've found (9pm) but they don't compete as far as good simple Mexican food. read more
