I had such a great experience here! I had already ordered two drinks when I noticed their seasonal summer menu and immediately regretted not seeing it sooner. I asked if it was possible to switch my order, and the staff member helping me was incredibly kind and accommodating. I ended up trying the Ube Coconut Cloud cold drink, and it was absolutely amazing--hands down one of the best specialty drinks I've had. Wife and I went here on a Sunday, at about noon. The crowds were not too bad, about 6 parties deep. This place is a small place that you order and when done ordering, you sit at a table and wait to be served your meal. It's a casual place. Looking at the menu, I decided to get the loco moco with portugese sausage. I am not a fan of loco moco, but heard it was really good here so ordered it but wanted Portuguese sausage since that's one of my favorite Hawaiian items It was finally our turn to order and my wife got the soft shell crab benedict. I ordered the loco moco with portugese sausage, only to find out that they did not have any portugese sausage! Menu was vast enough I didn't want to keep the line so decided to get the traditional loco moco with a hamburger patty. After our order, we sat down and waited for your food to arrive. As I was doing this, I noticed that a lot of people orderer the loco moco, but with katsu. I think I am gonna try that next time, or possibly with Spam. Anyway, our food came! Was in the mood for some breakfast food so decided to hit up aloha stacks! Quaint little spot in El Monte/temple city in the same plaza as cha cafe. I called ahead to order since it was about 45 minutes to closing (hate to be that guy lol). I got the kalua pork omelette. The pork was tender and flavorful and the eggs were very cheesy. I had the option of the home fried potatoes and pancakes, I of course opted for the potatoes! Potatoes were crispy and soft on the inside just how I like them! The wife got the Loco Moco. I finally made it for lunch one day after reading reviews about this cozy cafe. Aloha Stacks is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch (6:30AM-2PM). I had an enjoyable experience and meal. The food was D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S. and authentic. I placed my order at the counter and waited for my food to be ready. I had the Chicken Katsu, the sides available were Macaroni salad and Steamed rice. This meal is fit for a King (or Queen), with two scoops of rice and a extra large Chicken Breast. The chicken was moist and tender with a nice crisp crust. There was enough food for two meals at one reasonable price. The restaurant was very clean, the decor was cute, with bamboo trim on the sage green palm wallpaper. The music also set the scene for memories of the Hawaiian Islands. I can say I had a mini Hawaiian getaway here in California. I've been here twice. Both times were good. The first time wasn't super memorable. Like I remember it was decent but nothing mind blowing. I came here again recently and it was fairly busy for a Wednesday morning but I was still able to get a seat. Tried the POG and it tasted fresh but still just ok. Didn't bring me back to the islands per se. But I appreciate the effort. I got the chicken katsu loco moco. I was leaning towards the spam loco moco cause I didn't really want something fried but it was the same price so I figured the katsu was a better deal cause it's more skill. It was such a large plate. Like easily two people could share it and maybe a third. The gravy was solid. The chicken wasn't dry and was good. Spam musubi was good but I wish it was fully wrapped cause my rice broke off towards the end. I got a guava toffee French toast to go for my daughter and she said it was good but it literally just tasted like cooked bread which I guess is what French toast is but I guess when it's done right it's transformed more. This wasn't the case. She also could barely taste the guava. It also came with my choice of m at and I chose chicken katsu. The eggs were decent and nothing special. However, the chicken katsu was very dry and not crispy at all. The brown gravy was very salty and overwhelming. The rice was probably the best part since it was soft and fluffy. The Ube Coconut Pancakes ($15) were good. I've tried Aloha Stacks at another location before, but decided to give this one a try since it's conveniently located near my workout spot. One big plus right away was that they open as early as 6:30 AM, which is perfect for early birds or post-workout breakfast runs. There was a good amount of parking outside, and we were greeted with friendly service right when we walked in. Ambiance was clean & welcoming. My friend and I decided to try the Fitness Omelette ($15.50), which comes with egg whites, mushrooms, spinach, turkey slices, and your choice of potatoes or pancakes. I went with the potatoes. Unfortunately, they had run out of the turkey slices and replaced them with turkey patties. The omelette itself was simple and decent, but nothing too exciting. I'd give it about a 7/10. The potatoes were okay, but they came out more room temperature than hot and weren't crispy like I expected. My friend ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry ($14), and I have to say it was better than I expected. The katsu was crunchy, not overly thin like some places make it, and the curry was a nice addition. I'd give that dish about a 7.8/10. The main reason I knocked off two stars was due to a little confusion with a to-go order. I ordered a breakfast egg breakfast burrito to take home for my husband. The photo on the menu and online's picture shows it is served with chips and refried beans, but when I received the order, those sides weren't included. When I asked about it, the staff kindly explained that to-go orders do NOT come with the beans and chips, only dine-in orders do. They were very nice and even offered to box the sides for me, which I appreciated, but I did mention that it would probably help customers if that detail was listed on the menu. When something is pictured with sides, most people naturally assume that's what they'll receive. A small note on the menu could save everyone the extra explanation. As for the breakfast burrito ($11) itself, I added bacon for my husband. Unfortunately, it didn't really wow me. I'd give it about a 5/10. For the price, it just wasn't as satisfying as I hoped. You grab your number and they bring the food to you. Ambiance is super casual. Some neat island themed artwork on the wall. We got the: 1) Loco Moco: -One of my most favorite dishes. Choice of protein and I got the Portuguese sausage (not too salty and perfect char on the side), and got my eggs over easy. -Huge portion, flavorful gravy that also isn't too salty. Very hearty dish, add some Sriracha to it to get a kick. Would definitely get this again with another protein to try. 2) Kalua Pork Eggs Benedict: -Friend got this and after I had horrible food poisoning from a different eggs benedict elsewhere, I didn't really touch this dish except to have some of the yummy home fried potatoes. Nice slight crisp and super fluffy. She enjoyed her dish though. 3) Island Chilaquiles: -Carbs on carbs on delightful carbs. Overall a good experience. Service is good- ordering process very straightforward. The cashier is knowledgeable and helpful answering questions. It's mainly self serve (order and counter and go pick your own seat). The food is brought out to you. The tables and bathrooms are kept relatively clean. I like their location selection isn't too busy and the dining area is simply decorated and overall provides a "chill" atmosphere environment to dine in. The food itself is pretty good. I ordered the Macnut banana pancake. The portion was huge, I could only finish half. The flavors are ok, could be better. I miss the syrup options in Hawaii... here they only have maple syrup. The macadamia nuts were too soft. In Hawaii there was much more crunch to the pancakes. My family ordered the Kailua pork omelet, soft shell crab pancake and other items. Came here in the morning because I was in the mood for pancakes and saw that they had a banana macadamia nut pancake. The pancakes did not disappoint, easily one of the best things there. Sweet, strong banana flavor with some crunch from the nuts. It was great! The workers here are friendly and tentative asking how the food was and brought whatever extra things you needed promptly. It's a smaller restaurant but it does give cozy family style vibes. Losing a star because the other plate I ordered which was the ribeye chilaquiles. The place is small with about 8 tables inside and 2 tables outside. The decor is refreshing with surf style wall art. I ordered the classic hamburger patty Loco Moco. I thought it was just OK. The party was just your standard hamburger patty, not a homemade one. I think the gravy to rice ratio was off, it needed a lot more gravy. We did ask the server to more gravy and she brought us a cup, so no worries. I also got a coffee and next time I would skip that. It wasn't the worst coffee, but it wasn't the best. Cripsy on the outside and soft on the inside. In general Aloha Stacks is a bit pricey. But I think it comes with the terratory of going to a brunch place. For example 1 spam masubi is $4. At 626 hawaiian bbq & boba it's 2 for $5. I'd expect to pay about $20 for an adult meal. Aloha Stacks is very clean. Staff are friendly. The tables are kinda close together. Very casual experience. They have cups on the side where you can grab your own water from a water dispenser. The biggest downside is that most people are in the mood for brunch on the weekend mornings. Lines can go out the door, ordering can be slow, food comes out slow, parking hard to find. If you can avoid the brunch hours, Aloha Stacks is the perferred breakfast joint. read more

Tried a spot called Aloha Stacks after hearing some buzz, even though I wasn't too familiar with it. Figured--why not give it a shot. Right off the bat, the ordering process caught me off guard. We went with the Aloha Chilaquiles and the Ribeye Chilaquiles, plus sides of bacon and turkey sausage. Oddly enough, the sides came out first--almost like appetizers--which didn't really make sense in the flow of a breakfast meal. Now, onto the main dishes... The ribeye chilaquiles were disappointing. The steak was undercooked to the point where there was visible blood on the plate mixing into the chilaquiles--not appetizing at all. On top of that, the meat itself was a bit tough. As for the chilaquiles in general, they missed the mark. Instead of having that slight crunch you expect, the chips were overly soggy and lacked texture. Another issue was temperature--none of the food came out hot. Everything leaned more toward lukewarm, like it had been sitting in the back for a while. The eggs especially felt like they lost their freshness by the time they reached the table. Service and operations also seemed off. It honestly felt like they might've been short-staffed. Tables weren't being cleared in a timely manner, which led to people waiting around for seating even after others had already finished and left. That's something that definitely needs attention. Overall, I just didn't get the hype. Maybe it was an off day, maybe we ordered the wrong items, or maybe expectations were just too high--but for me, this didn't live up to being a "popular spot." You'd think it would be overwhelmingly sweet, but it wasn't at all. The pancake batter itself was fluffy, moist, buttery... just perfect. 5/10 Crab Omelette lt wasn't dry and had a buttery flavor, but something about the crab tasted fishy.The spinach and mushrooms are great.Just not my cup of tea. 4/10 PotatoesThe potatoes on the side were cooked perfectly and cut into large pieces, which I liked. However, I felt they lacked seasoning. After a few bites, you kind of get over it. 6/10 Mexican Iced Chocolate Pretty straight forward tasted like a light chocolate.More like milk with a whisper of Mexican chocolate. 6/10 Pineapple Juice Refreshing and tasted freshly made. You could tell because of the pulp. Only Complaint:They forgot our pineapple juice, and when the server was about to bring it over, the cashier stopped them and said, "Wait, come over here! Aloha Stacks is a recent addition to this area, and I'm thankful to have been introduced here by a friend. We had a short stack of their banana nut pancakes - though get a regular 4 stack if you can... definitely more bang for the buck! The banana nut pancakes tasted as expected, no frills. We also had their deep fried oxtail loco moco with rice and two eggs. Did I know what to expect...? Nope, but wow, when it came out it felt underwhelming. As one of the most expensive items, this definitely felt like a splurge. The taste? The sauce was well caramelized and featured a sweet and salty that was a tad too strong - yet still very tasty. Halfway into the meal, the staff checked in on us to see if we needed anything else. Feeling like a "take out" location rather than dine-in, this was appreciated. Because we sat by the window, we also enjoyed looking into the street, cars whizzing by as fork-fulls of food entered our mouths. We were two people, but each dish alone could easily feed two. The portions were definitely on the generous side. One pancake? That could easily be breakfast. Half order of ox tail (2) with rice and egg? Yup, that's easily lunch! To top it off, I also had an order of their POG (pineapple, orange, guava) juice. This tasted pleasantly sweet, a bit too much for my liking, but this tasted freshly squeezed. Would I get it again? The service at this location was very disappointing. There's no clear seating system, so it seems like you can sit anywhere. I found an open table and sat down, but a male server with glasses asked me to move because someone else wanted the table--which was confusing and frustrating. On top of that, there was a trainee at the front who didn't seem familiar with the menu and wasn't able to assist us properly. While I understand training is part of the process, there should be better support in place to ensure guests still have a smooth experience. At that point, it didn't matter how good the food might be--the overall experience was already negative. I would recommend going to the Irvine location instead, where the service is much more attentive. The only reason I'm giving an extra star is because Nathan the other server did a great job taking care of us after the initial issues. read more

We actually had a great dinner here recently and loved it so much we came back for Christmas morning breakfast. It was such a great find! If you're looking for solid Hawaiian fare, this is the spot. We ordered the Loco Moco and the Ube Pancakes for breakfast, both were excellent choices and tasted amazing. The Ube pancakes are a must-try if you like something sweet and vibrant! The restaurant itself is a small, cozy space, but don't let the size fool you, the service is incredibly friendly and very efficient. It's a perfect, low-key spot to get your Hawaiian food fix early in the day. Definitely adding this to our regular rotation! read more

This place is so good! We have been here twice and each time was so good. They have a pretty large menu with so many great options that it's hard to decide what to get. The two times we came we really enjoyed their ube pancake, banana macadamia nut pancake, Kalua pork eggs benedict, and prime rib locomoco. We are definitely going to keep coming back. The lines can get pretty long but they have great service and when it gets busy they put up tables and chairs for outside seating as well. read more

Solid food to fill you up. I wasn't too hungry so got the sunrise bowl, which is oatmeal with fruit plus brown sugar on the side. They definitely still give a good portion that will fill you. My fiance had the pancakes and an omelette with pulled pork and said the pancakes were solid. He wished there was more of the kahula pork in his omelette but otherwise decent. Friendly service where you order and pay first before sitting. The highlight for me is the iced Chai tea, which was very flavorful and a nice hint of cinnamon. Good local spot! read more
