Stopped here for breakfast on the recommendation of a friend. They're still friends but I won't take their recommendations anymore! The only interesting thing on the breakfast menu was the mullet and eggs but it seemed to be a bit much that morning so I went for the sausage biscuit. Pretty ordinary, in fact not as good as McDonald's! Eggs and grits were pretty plain too. Service was surly, surroundings kind of nice funky but all in all quite a disappointment. read more

Between burned biscuits and charred corned beef hash it's hard to find something to celebrate about todays breakfast. To be fair they were run off their feet busy, the atmosphere frenetic with the servers grumpy enough to match. Eggs were okay. Grits were unmemorable. Good breakfast and simply terrific burgers. The grouper sandwich not so much, an unidentifiable piece heavily breaded fish like matter. I'll give them a pass on this because they're a diner with no pretentious name, they make no attempt to be otherwise, and unlike many of the restaurants in the area, prices seem fair. Indoor and outdoor seating. They have a dinner menu but they're only open until afternoon. A local business that's been in the same family for years, and they treat you like family. Very quaint. Reminds me of my Memaw & Pepaw's house. The mangroves have grown up so that you can barely catch a glimpse of the canal from the deck. The gardens here are nice & remind me of childhood storybooks with the whimsical props scattered around them (I know this because I've visited in the spring). The waitresses are attentive & friendly. The food is mostly fried, single item dishes. Everything is cooked to order so it's piping hot. They will grill by request. Also, the menu is simple, but they'll do combo plates if you ask. I had fried shrimp & oysters with grits & hush puppies. First, the hush puppies are what you think of when you've had good hush puppies. They were light & crispy on the outside with a hint of beer taste and perfectly sized opaque onions mixed in. The plate comes with 2, but if you love them like I do, you'll choose hush puppies as one of your included sides. Grits... What can I say, Annie knows how to make em... Thick & creamy with butter. Cheese? You don't need it! Perfect, which is hard to do for a Florida Cracker like me who is picky about GOOD grits. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, lightly battered, hot & sweet. If you like fried oysters, or if you'd like to try fried oysters for the first time... Annie's does them better than anywhere else. I can't even describe them except to say that they are the kind you crave later. A bit pricey, but if you want good, home cooked seafood, you must stop at this little restaurant that is on the way, but not on the main strip in Cedar Key. You won't regret it. Friendly service accompanies the fresh-baked biscuits for breakfast. Nothing fancy about this place, but the eggs came as ordered. I would have preferred cheddar, instead of American cheese in the omelette. The hash browns were perfect, and my wife and brother said that the grits were especially good. We'll go back. read more

They are closed in July but they did not bother putting it online just a little note on the door. A few of us were driving in from various locations and meeting there. We had to adjust but without much trouble. Turns out breakfast is a tough find on this key! read more

We ate at Annie's several times while staying at Cedar Key and great food,atmosphere and service was good. Love the outside deck since we did have our fur babies with us! I would definitely go there again on our next visit! read more

This is one of those local places that should be on Diners, Dives and Drive-thrus. Annies is a little tiny, very casual place on the main road into Cedar Key, so there is some traffic noise, but it is also on the backwater so there is a nice view. I had the best fried oyster sandwich of my life (and I grew up on the water in Md. and Mass., so I know my oysters). The oysters were super fresh, big and properly fried. This is down home cooking, so its not fancy, but just super good. I also had a side of fried pickles that were also very good. I was so into the best oyster sandwich ever that I have no recollection as to what my husband ate. Annie's also has yummy deserts. I took a slice of chocolate pistachio cake back to our rental cottage for later and enjoyed every bite. Dog friendly on the deck. The wait staff wasn't overly friendly, but they were helpful and she took a $1 of the cake since it was the last piece. read more

We really like the food at Annie's but customer service needs improvement. We sat through the whole meal without an offer of more coffee or hot tea. My husband got up & served himself without being noticed. I drink unsweet hot tea, was brought see iced tea. Told her twice before I got hot tea. She never came to our table again. read more

Staff friendly but after sons food came we couldn't get ketchup brought to the table had to ask two separate waitresses to get it. Waitress brought our bill said almost same as the table behind you so it doesn't matter which one you get. I looked at her and said well that's really nice but I never got any food she laughed and said ahah you're kidding. I said no I'm not you never bought me anything. So then after my son had finished eating she finally brought me a cold BLT! Only six customers at the time (12pm straight up). Our first trip to area! Won't ever come back! This was our first time visiting Cedar Key. We asked locals where to eat for lunch and everyone we asked said to go to Annie's. People noted how good the burgers there are. Both my husband and I got the cheeseburger and spicy fries and we were not disappointed. The burger was excellent and I especially appreciated the delicious ripe tomato that was on it. The fries are not what I would describe as spicy "hot" but seasoned and very crisp. We also had the corn nuggets. The iced tea is fresh brewed here, not bottled or from a soda fountain, which is really important to us. They also had lime with the tea which is just how I prefer it. We would definitely go there again on our next trip to Cedar Key. read more

Where do the locals like to go? Annie's. This excellent, simple eatery has been around for a long time. A true staple of Cedar Key. Eat inside or outside. There is no airconditioning, but there is fresh air. Love the biscuits and gravy, burgers, eggs, grill cheese, old fashion gritts and greens and alot more. Friendly, local atmosphere. Locally run and operated by a women with generations of family history. Your food is all fresh and delicious with authenthic southern charm. A must for breakfast or lunch or both. read more

Stopped in for late breakfast, about 11:15 on a Thursday. Service time was fine but there were only a few other tables seated. Server was fine but as others mentioned, not friendly. She didn't smile at all or properly greet us. I asked what veggies were in the veggie omlette and she replied by giving me a list of every veggie known to mankind and saying she doesn't know, it could be any of those or a combination. ????????? We ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon & cheese omlette. The food was ok. Just ok. Just got into Cedar Key & the hubby was chomping at the bit for some authentic key lime pie...we jumped on our bikes & stopped at the first place that was open. It's a cute, funky little place with probably the same surly waitress that a previous reviewer commented on. We ordered pie, that's it, nothing else...I saw the drool start to foam at his mouth & then the taste...oh no, it was frozen! This review is about breakfast only. The two of us walked in around 10:50 on a Monday, and both ordered what the menu termed a "half biscuit and gravy.". I asked the waitress, whom I suspect is the same surly vixen everyone else refers to, if a mere half biscuit was sufficiently manly for a big guy like me, and she replied that they would bring out more if it wasn't. I was able to tolerate this obvious discourtesy and went with the half biscuit, which I actually finished, though not without some effort. Normally, waitresses wait until just after you've mouthed the first bite, and then rush out and ask if everything is fine while 1) your mouth is full and 2) you don't know yet. This harridan had the nerve to wait until I was well into the platter and had stopped chomping to contemplate the bayou surrounding the screened deck. She asked if I would like some more after filling my coffee to which I truthfully replied that there was just plenty. The biscuits and gravy were not great, but they were plenty OK. There were enough locals hanging around that we felt as if we getting some feeling for the place, which is more than I can say about the Island Room, which has fantastic food but often people just like us. read more

Poor service...took one hour to get 4 hamburgers...they brought them out in pairs 10 minutes apart. Unhappy staff, no motivation, moved like pond water. Not a very good lunch experience. We came in on a busy Sunday morning but we're able to find an open table. Our server was quick to get our drinks and take our order. I had the two egg breakfast with bacon, hash browns and toast. It was good, no complaints my daughter had a pancake and bacon, the pancake would probably have been delicious if it weren't burnt. My mother had the mullet breakfast and although there were some bones to pick out she said it was delicious. We never got any drink refills so service wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. Annies had a wonderful view. It had an old country feeling with wood floors you could see through to the water. The food was pretty good too!! The reason for the 3 stars is that we kept on asking about things on the menu that they were out of,... so the choices then became limited. Great little mom and pop joint with good old fashioned home cooking. Very casual and friendly. We ate breakfast here twice. I had a Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich with home fries on day 1. Nothing extraordinary, just a good basic breakfast sandwich. The home fries were kind of bland, but not bad. The second day I had 2 eggs over easy with bacon and hash browns. Eggs were perfectly done and in my opinion the hash browns were much better than the home fries I had the previous day. In the future, I will stick with the hash browns. My gf had the Bacon and Cheese omelet one day and Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich the second day. Both were good, no complaints whatsoever. Our servers were friendly and efficient on both visits. There are 2 dining rooms, which give the vibe of dining on someone's porch, which I like, plus outdoor seating. Another nice touch are the home made pickled hot peppers in mason jars on all of the tables! Oh! And did I mention, they serve BEER! read more

We visited Annie's due to the great reviews. We were greatly disappointed. Greasy food that was ok but nothing to write home about. The service was horrible and it was tough to get a coffee refill. The one good thing was that the coffee was good and the biscuits were good. Won't be back. read more
