A great little local deli. We stopped today to grab a bite before we got into Newark. The staff were incredibly friendly, the food was delicious and the portions are large. Well this place has been talked up by colleagues for a while now so I had to try it out. Went here today for the first time and lets just say it wasn't what I expected. by the looks from outside it looks like a large deli, but when you walk in it is like a closet. Large menu on the wall is hard to read when too many people are in there since they have to stand right in front of it waiting to pick up their sandwich. On to the food.... I knew going into the deli that it was mostly specialty sandwiches but never really knew that is the only thing they do there. You can order your own sandwich but with about 30 specialty sandwiches to choose from why build your own? It took a while for me to figure out what I wanted but wound up getting a "Humdinger". This sandwich that had roast beef, melted cheese, bacon, tomato, green peppers, onions, and Russian dressing and let me tell you it was delicious. I definitely want to go back to try out 2-3 more sandwiches that I found interesting but after that I think it will lose its appeal. I also found a lot of their sandwiches to be very close in ingredients, like one having Russian dressing and the other having Tiger Sauce and bacon with all the same meats. I really like that it is Mom and Pop run and has a good local following. Food was prepared fast, fresh, and looks good. 3 people total work there and they kept up with a large lunch time rush which was impressive. Good work. read more

I've had my eye on this place for years but never was able to eat there for dietary reasons in my family. Well, today was the day that the streak was broken. I had the Tooth Fairy, which is turkey, pastrami melted Swiss cheese, Russian and cole slaw on rye bread. Wow, the flavors just melted in my mouth! Very fresh tasting and the ingredients were full of flavor. Yummmm!!!! The place is a mom and pop owned business, and very tiny, no seating so it's all take-out business. The sandwich options are endless and you can also make your own if you want something special or basic. Have gone here with family and friends occasionally for years but had not been recently. Sandwiches are loaded with deli meat but to be honest quality and flavor is just OK.-nothing special. The reason I personally will not be returning is the posting of a sign stating "No masks required. We are free". As a nurse who is well aware of how covid is transmitted and the often horrific toll this virus has taken among the unvaccinated, immunocompromised as well as those with breakthrough cases, it is utterly distasteful that a business would be so unaware, misinformed and advertise their lack of concern for their patrons, employees and the community in which they operate. read more

Ordered shut up and eat and junkyard dog sandwiches. shut up and eat would be improved by 1) being less salty and 2) having more cheese. Junkyard dog was really good the areas with sauce. So glad this place is so close to my house. Really great sandwiches and service to match. I've had a plain roast beef and a turkey reuban. Hubby loves the peanut butter chocolate bars as well, which is saying something since he was born without a sweet tooth. This place hands down makes the best breakfast sandwiches. The people are very nice too here. Whether I'm sober or not, this is a great place to go to early and get a big ass sandwich. This review doesn't even need to be long. All sandwiches are great and fast. Maybe a little pricier than usual, but I could be wrong. Regardless, it's great. This place is a gem. There is plenty of parking and two doors to enter. One door to come in and one to go out but ppl may not see it that way. There is a ton of sandwhich options. I had the tooth fairy which was outstanding. I really hope they have turkey bacon bc i would love love to try every sandwhich on the large menu. The service is fast also which is a big plus!!! Amazing meat and flavorful! The hallway to the register is narrow. So narrow you can not take a picture of the menu bc you're so close to it. First let me say the peanut butter cookies with caramel bites inside were delicious--so I gave the deli 1 point = 1 star for that. However, the reason I could not go any further with giving Annie's points is because everything else--my shrimp salad sandwich, potatoe salad--was almost inedible. The mayonnaise they pack into the potatoe salad was unbelievable! Full of May and very few potatoes. The shrimp salad has nice size shrimps but it was overloaded with Mayo and the flavor wasn't good at all. One more thing... my friend and I ordered our sandwiches on a Kaiser roll and we both agreed that the roll wasn't fresh , it was took thick, and it tasted like cheap bread--no flavor, poor quality. You would think that they would have the best rolls there after being in business so long. Disappointed in the sandwiches and potatoe salad which is why I came their in the first place. They also have a sign on the door that tells ppl to wear masks but their employees do not which bothers me--even if they are all vaccinated, it does not exempt you from catching COVID. read more

Went to deli after reviewing amazing reviews on Yelp and also based on suggestions from co-workers. However I did not have same experience as others and was quite disappointed. I ordered a vegetarian that had mozzarella, Roasted peppers balsamic vinegar and added I added some tomatoes and greens. Went to my desk looking forward to it but was utterly disappointed as it had not much taste and basically I was biting on a big slab of mozzarella and bread. The sub bread was also sub par as I have had better bread than that Maybe I had a bad experience or maybe their meat sandwiches are better than the vegetarian ones. Was in the Bedminster area, and decided to check this place out for a quick bite. Boy, was I sure I did! Most delicious place I have ever eaten at! The place is nice and cute on the outside, as it looks like a little house. It is kind of a small deli and, it can get a little claustrophobic, being there. However, it was a great experience overall! The staff was very friendly, and with them being so crowded, I had my food ready in less than 10 minutes. I got the Jaws sandwich. Yes, like the movie! It was I believe rye bread, with inside tuna, onions, cheese, tomato and I believe Thousand Island dressing. The sandwich had so much flavor with everything coming together. It was even great, that nothing fell out of my sandwich while trying to eat it! I have that issue a lot with sandwiches, and no matter how many ways I hold them, they fall out. This was a find! After dropping in at the liquor store on the way into the City, I became a little hungry and saw Ann's Deli. I figured hey why not. Well holy history and thoughtfulness. The spot has a great past and tradition. Each and every sandwich is named after someone and even better you can see how that person influenced the deli. Although the charm isn't in the decor or aesthetics by any means, it's in the care put into each sandwich and the love/history that surrounds the joint. Great mom and pop deli. Literally run by uh, Mr and Mrs Annie - always there and always churning out some mean sammiches. I wish there were places like this in Mass.. they must have 40 sandwiches on their menu, and all of them sound great. Except the tongue ones, I think at least one has tongue, but I guess that's authentic. Note - for the subs, when they list "half ", that means half a loaf of bread. Not a half sandwich. Get the half - its more than a normal person ever needs. The Defalco is a damn good italian sub - get the hot peppers on it. Also check out the daily specials. First of all, this deli has been around forever, and it is hands down one of the best deli's....ever. The pickles are homemade sour gariic, not dill and they are crisp, crunch and amazing, I keep hoping they will share the recipe with me. Second, their sandwiches are all delicious and have tons of meat on them, I usually ask them to leave some off because it is often too much meat for my taste. The Suzy Wong, First Fork & Dr. Jazz happen to be just a few of my favorites. I don't know what they put in their chicken salad but it's the best I've had around here and not too much mayo, which in my opinion always ruins a good chicken salad.. I have been coming here ever for over 25+ years when the original owner, Annie, still owned it. She was a sweet older woman who always wore her two long silver braids pinned up, which always made me think her name should have been Helga or Olga. The current owners are the third owners, the second owners were in business briefly, they served cheaper meats and skimped on the ingredients and hence people stopped going, the current owners, thankfully brought it back to its original glory. Anyway to correct Scott W the sandwich names are not "gimmicky" they are original to the deli and are named after real locals who regularly ordered their own custom sandwiches. Some of these regulars are no longer alive so it is a nice nod to our little town's history before it became the big town that it is now with it's office complexes, medical plazas and strip malls. If you want proscuitto or cappicola like Scott W, feel free to find an ITALIAN deli (Somerville has several) or go to the A& P or Kings supermarket and the deli there will treat you like a number and make you a mediocre sandwich with Italian deli meats. For your German meats you can try Steck's deli, which is quite good and recently opened in the A&P plaza. Great Mom and Pop deli where everything is homemade. So many different sandwich combos to choose from. I have only tried one kind so far, the Baby Snooks, and it was pretty darn good. I'll update my review as time goes by and I try more kinds of sandwiches. They also have some tasty cookies, desserts and bagels. But I hear you have to get up pretty early for the bagels... I think if you need to grab a sandwich here... I think you may like it, the sandwiches are made to order and is fresh and decent size. The girls that work here are super friendly, nice. They are fast making the sandwiches. The portions I think are good. I come here often.
