My wife and I stopped into Whitehouse General Store for a casual lunch after running a few errands in the area. It has that old-school general store feel when you walk in. Small, cozy, and not trying to be something it's not. There are a few tables if you want to eat there, but it definitely feels like more of a grab-and-go spot. I ordered a half cheesesteak sandwich with peppers and onions while my wife chose a half cheesesteak without. The sandwich was a good size. You have to be very hungry to finish a half. My wife was only able to get through half of her sandwich. Since we were bringing the sandwiches home, we chose not to get any drinks or sides. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Service was friendly and efficient. You order at the counter and they call you when it's ready. No long wait, even with a few people ahead of us. If you're looking for a quick, solid lunch in Whitehouse Station without the chain restaurant feel, this is a good option. Breakfast sandwiches are weak and expensive. Their roast beef sloppy Joe was pretty good back in the day. Had it again recently being that I am back in the area for a bit. Definitely went downhill since the last time I had it. I had high hopes for this place when they opened years ago. I would say you are better off going to salt and pepper across the way. I work in Whitehouse and have ordered grilled chicken Sandwiches up and down Rt 22. I am so glad I found this place! I ordered a grilled Chicken Sandwich on a kaiser roll, plain with lettuce and Tomato. When I got to the store they were cooking my chicken FRESH on the grill without a ton of salt. Today I came here for the first, and last, time. I wanted to try something new on my lunch break for work, and saw all the good reviews for this deli. From the outside, it looked a little neglected, with Christmas decorations still up even though it's month after Christmas. The inside was clean enough, but with dated 1970s decor. Still, these would have been minor things which I could overlook, if this lunchtime deli helped me to achieve my goal: get coffee and a sandwich within my 40 minute window of time. I noticed that the deli case was more than half empty (see photo) so my options were limited. I ordered a liverwurst sandwich on a Kaiser roll, and a cup of coffee. The man working politely informed me that they were out of coffee. This was at 2:15 on a Monday. I asked if he would be brewing a fresh pot, which is something that other delis have a done for me, and seems like a normal thing when a customer asks for coffee. He told me no, they usually run out of coffee around 1 PM, and do not brew anymore after that. He was completely firm on this rule. Coffee at lunch is a requirement for me if I'm going to work through the rest of my shift, so I took my sandwich and ate it in the car while driving to Quick Chek for a coffee. The liverwurst was fine, the Kaiser roll was stale. I cannot come back here because I do not have time to stop at one place for coffee and a second place for lunch. read more

This place is a treasure. It's on a back road in a sleepy little town, but I just love the place. The food quality is mint. The owner is patient and friendly. it's kind of like a picnic area indoors, but there are maybe four tables on the front porch that rock in the Spring and Fall for those of us who detest the hot weather. The worst thing I can say about the place is it's a little pricey, but it's worth every cent. There is a big sign on Route 22 that says DELI in front of what I believe is a post office, but I've never been in there. I'm surprised anybody ever hears about it. You want to promote the place, but then it wouldn't be your little secret either would it? Whenever I see my eye doctor or have business east of Whitehouse near the lunch hour I always make it my business to get in there. It's not nearly often enough. I am sad to report that weekend breakfast at WGS is not what it used to be. The main difference is the food. It used to be made with a foodie flare, now, at best it is average, and on some days less than average. The service is grumpy and the place lacks the community feel it once possessed. The owner is a nice lady. Maybe she needs to be a more frequent presence on the weekends. There are now better options nearby. read more

4 out of 5 since the only thing lacking was more gluten free options. They were very sweet in accommodating me by preparing a deconstructed chicken gyro & even offering extra avocado on the side. Thanks so much guys! Good quality ingredients and we got served fast. Friendly staff checked on us to make sure we were ok. My husband had the chicken parmigiana which he rated 8 out of 10 saying the only thing that would make it a 10 would be better tasting bread. I work not far from the restaurant and have been there at least ten times over the past year or so. The food is made to order and is always fresh and delicious. They always have a great selection of specials from the healthy to the not so healthy. If you feel like splurging get the French fries, cooked perfectly and piping hot. I moved into this little slice of Americana called Whitehouse 2 years ago. While I was renovating my late 19th C house I had no kitchen. I immediately found myself at the General Store every day. As a vegetarian I gravitated to egg and cheese sandwiches and within the first week of reno the entire staff knew my voice on the phone and my "regular" order by heart. The entire staff is welcoming and friendly. The food is always fresh, made to order and ready for me to pick up as I get my mail from the adjoining USPS office. As the staff already knows, even after 2 years with a stove, I still get my breakfast or lunch here just as many days of the week as when I didn't have a stove! There is no better way to enjoy a fresh sandwich and a cup of fresh coffee than to sit out on the front porch or side patio and watch the cyclists pass by. read more

My husband and I both wfh and were looking for a new lunch option. Since our previous favorite deli has gone seriously downhill, we tried out the Whitehouse General Store, and are now kicking ourselves for taking so long! The location is convenient - if you can't find the "main" entrance, you can pull in directly from Route 22 and park on the other side of the building. The place is very clean and all the employees clearly take pride in their work. They have a broad menu - something for everyone and every mood - and everything we've tried has been delicious. I'm a picky eater and they've always accommodated my special requests no problem. Bonus points: you can order online! And after 2 online orders the woman at the counter learned my name and now addresses me like an old friend. If they had just a teensy bit more space to wait for orders at peak lunch time, it would be totally perfect, but I can't really complain that it's a popular place! read more

I work near the Whitehouse General Store and have gone there for lunch either take out or eat in and it is friendly, clean, quaint and the food is tasty. So far I have tried a burger, chicken cheesesteak wrap, fish and chips, grilled chicken sandwich and all of it was YUMMY! So much so that I make sure to frequent a few times a month as there are other items I want to try. They even have fried bologna I haven't tried it but someone ordered it while I was there and raved about it. Also, they have daily lunch specials at great prices that will keep you coming back for more. The food is made to order and if you eat in they bring it to your table...great service!!!
