Came by for brunch while exploring downtown Newport. Annie's is a charming little diner which has a pretty simple menu of hearty breakfast/lunch foods. I got half a BLT and half french onion soup. Soup was great, I did like the BLT but the rye they use in Rhode Island is so weird in comparison to NJ/NY (which I'm used to). Waitress was very sweet, they also had the place very nicely decorated for Christmas. I was not a fan of this place.. the eggs were not bad, the home fries needed to be cooked a tad more.. the place itself is a little awkward as there is no soft music playing and place is super tiny. Annie's is an attractive diner on Bellevue, so after touring all the mansions, you can stop in for a quick - and relatively affordable - bite. It is cash-only, so for all you Amex Black card holders or cryptocurrency miners, you're SOL. That being said, Annie's offers good diner fare, including a variety of soups, salads, and veggie options. My daughters and I had BLT, roast beef, and grilled cheese sandwiches - they were well-made and satisfying, though not mind-blowingly good. The French onion soup was pretty decent (though the gratinee could have been toasted a bit more) and the New England clam chowder was okay. My wife's veggie bean burger was quite attractively plated and tasted just as good as it looked. Wait service is prompt and courteous. Annie's had an impressive holiday decoration feature: hundreds of Christmas ornaments tacked to the ceiling (our server said it took 2 of Annie's dishwashers a week to put them all up) which made for quite a unique sight. Annie's is a super casual diner in an upscale part of Rhode Island, next to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. And you don't need to own one of the nearby Vanderbuilt mansions to eat here. Prices are insanely affordable and the quality, well, not great but good enough for the most part. The clam chowder was delicious and easily the best part of the meal. But the other items miserably failed, including the dry meat loaf and equally dry mashed potatoes. On the plus side, portions are generous and items are not overly greasy. read more

My favorite breakfast and lunch restaurant in Newport. They always get it right which is why I eat there several times a week. I love their ham and cheese omelettes for breakfast and they have the best Caesar salad in town. They also have the best customer service. The place was still decorated for Christmas, with a huge number of ornaments hanging from the ceiling. I found the place charming with a hometown feel to it. The location is great too, very close to downtown and a nice walk up from Thames and Memorial Blvd. I ordered scrambled eggs that came with home fries and toast. It was cooked to my liking, with the potatoes well cooked and the eggs firm. I also got one pancake. The portions were generous and the price, especially in this day and age with the price of eggs and everything else, was more than fair. The staff was above and beyond expectations. The service was efficient and friendly, and my waitress (Jaime, I think - she was short - 5'2" - I apologize if I got the name wrong) was really on the ball, keeping my coffee warm and providing a local's insight to the town. We came here for breakfast/brunch in a group of 4 and were lucky enough to be seated shortly after we arrived, from my understanding and experience, there is always a line!! I ordered the Nutella banana french toast, and I can assure you it was the best french toast I have ever had. The quantity is more than enough and it comes with whipped cream and strawberry compote on the side, which I believe were both made in house!! The tartness from the strawberries balance the sweetness from chocolate and banana! The others got the breakfast platters with eggs and sausages and other stuff and everything looked so good! Came for breakfast with 2 friends and we loved this cute eatery. Service was excellent. Jamie our server was wonderful. We loved the feeling in this small local eatery. One of the waitresses walked by carrying a ton of plates and the owner goes "got a match?" I guess you have to be over a certain age to know that joke because the young lady carrying the plates just looked at her like Huh? Anyway back to the food. I had my standard bagel. Bagel lox cream cheese tomato and onion and loved it. I went easy on the cream cheese to make it low cal. My friend Rob had eggs and crab cakes and loved it and my other friend ordered eggs with home fries well done and they came out perfect.
