Jax the dog at Jax Diner; Portsmouth, RI

Stopped here on way home from Newport, RI for breakfast. AWESOME! The menu has so many great choices. Small, local diner that was absolutely a good call for food. The owner, Michael and his staff are so in tune with prepping, cooking and serving a delicious breakfast. I had a great talk with his mom who happened to be there. Another reason I stopped; my dog is named Jax! So needless to say it was a great experience all around. I even got a tee shirt and took a picture with my dog in front of their sign; Jax the dog at Jax Diner!!! Love it

Would love to try again sometime, but they unfortunately don't post their updated or edited hours anywhere. Drove all the way here because there were no special labor day hours on their website, instagram, or phone voicemail (tried to call a couple times) just to find a piece of paper taped to their door saying closed....Disappointing!

Great customer service but so worth the wait. Pretty small inside seating so keep that in mind, there might be a wait. Ordered brunch burger, blueberry pancake, and burrito. Everything was flavorful, delicious, and cooked to perfection. Give this place a go!

Watched my kid play a youth sports game down the street and after I searched local breakfast this place popped up. When I pulled up I saw a trailer and thought what was I thinking. I walked in and saw it was a restaurant style diner which was pretty cool looking. The kitchen right in front of the bar so you can see everything being cooked. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and hash brown due to the time I had available. I wasn't expecting much but boy was I surprised. The everything bagel was so flavorful it was amazing. The hash browns had a perfect hint of seasoning. My kid had hand battered fresh chicken tenders. The fires were hand cut. I wish this place wasn't so far away or I would go multiple times a week!

A standard, run of the mill diner. Service was friendly, seating area was spacious, and they have stools at the counter if you're eating alone. The one thing I did like is that they offered chorizo as one of the breakfast meats. The breakfast potatoes were fine, and the omelette was typical. Prices were moderate.

This is an absolute GEM! We were a party of two and were a little worried about finding a quick table since this place is so tiny when we stopped in for a Sunday breakfast. We were seated immediately! This is a place for small groups (2s and 3s), anything larger might expect a bit of a wait. They do have some outdoor seating for the summer. We got the Eagles Nest (eggs Benedict with corned beef hash), the Workin' Man (eggs, biscuits, and sausage gravy), and split a pancake. I have been dreaming about these sausage and biscuits since I ate them because they were so buttery and amazing. Cannot recommend highly enough! We ordered a plain pancake but the kitchen accidentally made their special pumpkin. They were going to remake it for us but we said we were happy to have that one. It was packed with spices and very tasty. The servers were all lovely and welcoming. I absolutely LOVED this place. We live across the state but we will make the trip to be back, it's worth it!

    Breakfast was Delicious.

Pleasant environment and the smell of deliciousness. The staff were extremely polite and efficient with service. The cook should be on Hell's Kitchen. It was something to watch. Every place I seen make I wanted to try. I should gotten one of those giant pancakes. Go there, you won't be disappointed or hungry after you're done.

Hall of fame sandwich - breakfast crunch wrap.

Home of an all time breakfast sandwich. The breakfast crunch wrap is easily in top 1% of breakfast sandwiches out there. Service was great! Great experience and great environment. all around! Highly recommend.

Have visited twice now - once to dine in and another to get takeout. The food is very good! Excellent diner food. Their pancakes are PHENOMENAL. The portions of meat are generous and the bagels are good quality. I didn't love their iced tea (too bitter for my taste) or their home fries (plain fried potatoes, no seasonings). It's a bit more expensive than other places. The restaurant is small and appears to only accommodate one larger party at a time. Service was very friendly both visits!

Walking in to this small cozy place, we were greeted promptly and everyone was super friendly and kind! Our server was so sweet! The menu looked really great- some very creative options and something for most. I ordered the garden omelet with egg white- to be honest, I was a little disappointed- it was overwhelmed with vegetables and hardly any egg white. The potatoes were really good. My son was really happy with his fluffernutter French toast- he even shared a bite with me- it was definitely nostalgic from the peanut butter and fluff sandwiches we had growing up! Also- side note- please fix the pothole in the drive through area in front of the front door... my son fell while walking out and I wouldn't want anyone else getting hurt.

Today's servers were a mother/daughter team and they seemed to know everyone who came through the door. There's no substitute for that feeling, a sense that you belong. It was neat to observe, the sense of familiarity and community. Even old, curmudgeon-y guys like me were welcome there. The service was quick and friendly and the diner fare was familiar. Their omelettes are cooked on a flat top. That makes for a flat, folded style omelette. It serves perfectly well for enveloping your choice of fixings. There is a RI twist to it, the choice of a chorizo omelette or chorizo served with eggs is a nod to our Portuguese neighbors/immigrants. Breakfast and coffee hit the spot. I also think the friendliness of the place had a lingering effect on me. Driving around and stopping at familiar places like 2nd Beach and Sachuest Point, the nostalgic ache came harder than I anticipated. Aquidneck Island is stunningly beautiful and it will always have a place in my heart.

The diner is more of an older 50's look. Very clean. Local's enjoy. I was greeted by a young lady dressed as a fairy I believe. I expressed that it was our first time eating there. The staff were so friendly. We were handed little Halloween treat bags while we were waiting for our order to be taken. The food was really good! Freshly made to order no skimping on my bacon order! We happen to notice freshly baked blueberry muffins that were huge! Next time. If you're in the Bristol area it's definitely a must stop. Pictures to follow.

Be ready to order, because seating is limited and there is usually a line of many regulars out the door on a sunny weekend morning. Cross your fingers for immediate seating if you show up between 9-10am! This is a classic diner with classic diner food--the diner food as seen on TV. Let's also not forget, you get what you pay for! In cash too, but don't worry--they have an ATM. Prices are pretty decent!! ~$20 all encompassing per person. I've seen some reviews complaining about the service. I find myself here quite often so I feel compelled to vouch for the Hope staff. They are genuine people who won't take your bs!! Be respectful and they'll take care of you. I can honestly say it is my top choice to bring people from out of town to experience, but I'm not a weekly regular. If you love classic diner food you should check it out at least once. I'm sure I'll be back soon!! RECR: - Definitely try their grilled bagels!
