what can be said that hasn't already been said? This joint is rad, I mean you can bring your dog! Good selection on hand, fair prices and the atmosphear is down right groovy. Located in the heart of downtown, up stairs from Sister Bar (another goodie). The only issue, for me at least is how god damn packed it gets on Friday nights and that I gotta go out to the street to smoke but then again I'm getting old so loud noises frighten me and I don't wanna walk outside to smoke, but if thats your jam do it up! read more

This place is terrible all around. Everything in that bar looks like it's seen better days. The pool balls are so dirty that we couldn't even distinguish the cue ball half the time. You can think of a place or section of a bar, there's a 100% chance there are several stains there. Lastly the staff is awful, went around a slow time (no more than 5 people in the bar) and the bartender (Angelica) was rude and just looked like couldn't be bothered initially. But what Angelica is really at fault for is she gave out my ID to the wrong person. Upon realizing her error, she wasn't apologetic or remorseful. Her constant solution was (I'm sure they'll come back, give me your number so I can call you when they do). Sure enough she didn't call, they never returned it(we checked). Attempting to speak to the manager (who is the bouncer checking ID at the door) was as helpful as his incompetent employee, with no sense of urgency or manners. Did nothing to make up for the lack of courtesy that his employee demonstrated or the fact she gave out my ID to a random stranger. read more

I was passing through town on Halloween night and visited Anodyne. I had a terrific evening. If Anodyne were just a cocktail lounge or just a pool hall, it would be great, but the combination of both makes this place excellent. The pool tables are in great shape with beautiful red felt. The bumpers on them are perfect. The beer and cocktails are excellently priced and the servers are attentive. The patrons of the place all seemed to be good, interesting people. I can't wait to pass through Albuquerque again and visit Anodydne! read more

This place is a joke. I walked in with my friend who is 21 and I'm 23. They wouldn't let her in because her ID was vertical (she's from Wisconsin). There was a carpet on the floor and I tripped over it in my wedges and he later told my fiancé who was already in the bar that I was too drunk to be let into the bar. I had only had 2 drinks at this point. Any bouncer who doesn't let patrons in because of the orientation of their ID or because they TRIP over a carpet should maybe consider a different line of work. Whatever. Spent my money elsewhere. Would encourage anyone else to do the same. read more

I have great memories from the past 25 years at Anodyne. I've never had a bad experience there, ever! It's just a cool spot and I miss it! I hurt my back,knees and legs so the stairs would be a real challenge. I've never seen an elevator so I may not be able to go play pool there again. :( I also love that they really are kinda known for their beers but I'm not a beer drinker and the staff doesn't make me feel funny about ordering something different. One of my favorite bars! Bartenders, bouncers and cocktail waitresses are all really nice. It gets crowded on the weekend, but if you can go early and get a table it's totally worth it. It's a great place to be if you wanna relax and have a beer or a drink during the week. The last time I went in, they made me drink with coconut water vodka in it and I regret not getting the name! Also they have bar dogs some days (weekdays?) and one climbed right into our booth to hang out with us for a bit. read more

This may be the last bastion of that old Albuquerque cool. Furnished like a 1970's living room/ pop culture shrine, Anodyne delivers a truly unique experience and always remains true to its name and provides an extremely laid back atmosphere. Staff are friendly and accommodating and the beer selection is excellent. The bar has it quirks, from crooked pool cues to notoriously strong pours on mixed drinks. But if you are looking for a bar that truly feels like no other, this is it. Visit during daytime hours and catch a game of chess with friends under ample natural light, or at night for a real rock bar feel. The free juke box is ready for all the musically eclectic, but don't expect to hear any top 40, dance music, or hip hop of any time period here. Also, the bar is dog friendly. read more

It's the place I go to start my weekend, great drinks, great service and a laid back atmosphere for meeting new people .

This place is great. Dogs allowed to roam free and drinks are fairly priced. Staff is nice, I went about 8pm and it was pretty slow, got busier as I left about 930. Pool tables for $6 an hour but we only got charged 3 for about 40 minutes, chill lounge area and a cool rail with a lot of beer selections. Free juke box full of eclectic punk. And there are plants that fill the sun lights. I really like this place, not too busy, can't wait to go again. read more

Me and my little gang of misfits go to this pub every so often and never once have I felt out of place this place feels like your at your friends house for a nice beer and some pool or just to hang and talk. But what's cool is that you can see the beautiful dogs that roam that place they keep you and everyone else in check like "this is a home for us too be nice and will be nice" great environment and great staff. read more

If you hate drinking, hate people and hate fun - then this place is for you. This place was recommended to us while we were in town for the weekend. We couldn't have been more disappointed. You could tell the employees there really didn't want to deal with customers. When we were finally served after a long wait, I asked what they would suggest considering they do have a good selection of beer on tap. 3 pinball machines (and they are all 3 games for $1) - monopoly (was turned off when i was there) addams family values - excellent playing condition fish tales - the classic i've seen you everywhere game in great shape on top of that, a foosball table, 12 or 13 pool tables, a bad ass jukebox, and a huge beer selection. this place is a monstrosity of a bar and probably the nicest i've been to in ABQ. read more

Hands down my favorite bar for the last 12 years. They always have an amazing selection of beer and the service is consistently good! A great place to grab a drink by yourself but can also accommodate large groups of people. No one cares what you're wearing or how much money you make. This is my favorite downtown haunt. They have a great bottled beer selection, stiff mixed drinks, and a solid rotating draft selection. Having been to most of the pool halls around town I can easily say they have the best pool tables that I have come across in ABQ. All tables (but one) are 8', nice felt, well maintained, and there is a snooker table! For those not interested in billiards there are a few pinball machines and plenty of nice dark seating options to talk/drink the night away. They have a free jukebox with an ever expanding eclectic selection of tunes. Just about everywhere you look there are some very happy plants that help create a comfortable atmosphere imo, courtesy of Ms Doris who is one of the lovely waitresses adorning Anodye. The staff is great, especially considering how packed it gets on the weekends. The crowds are always an interesting mix and great people watching fodder is abound. The excellent service, drink selection, and pool tables keep me coming back weekly! read more

That it's taking up my time to write a review based on my horrible experience a few nights ago, contributes to my discomfort and aggregation of what happened. Last Tuesday evening I purchased a few drinks for two over a couple hours as we played pool. The two games were payed for and the bartender said it was no problem to finish our second, and last game, shortly after last call. We began to feel rushed as the employees were requesting people wrap up their games and finish drinks that were just ordered, quickly. This was about ten minutes prior posted closing time. When we arrived, we were seeking food and we tipped well for Matt -the doorman- to watch our game to go to Sister bar and order food. Matt told us that the bar downstairs would deliver to us no problem, so we walked down and placed an order unto which Sister bar conveyed they never have an never will deliver to Anodyne. This was disappointing, but we placed an order anyway and picked up our food and continued to give Anodyne our business. During our last pool game, that we were told was ok to finish, Matt kept placing the ball rack at the edge of the table telling us to be done. We ended the game. On the way out I expressed to Matt that Sister doesn't deliver to Anodyne to which he replied 'well, they do me a personal favor by delivering my food when I order,' and I said 'so then, the information you conveyed was false,' upon which he aggressively pulled my drink out of my mouth, while I was drinking it and told me to leave. Maybe he thought it ok to be aggressive with a young woman because I doubt he would have done that with a man. I have been an advocate of Anodyne consistently in the past, referring friends and planning trips from Santa Fe to Albuquerque to give them business. I will never go there again due to the hostile, inconsiderate, and aggressive nature of my recent experience. My friend and I are cordial, easy-going people that tip well and keep to ourselves. Honesty and good customer service should be a standard expectation. I am baffled and disappointed whilst also dealing with the uncomfortable feeling of violence at me. read more

Anodyne is on the second floor above Sister bar with the entrance on Central. You have to go up a long flight of stairs. Once you have successfully made this journey, you will have to show your ID and then you may enter! You will see pool tables as far as the eye can see. You will have to trek across the pool hall through a bunch of gorgeous greenery and you may even have to pet (or dodge) some of the dogs that may be frolicking around to get to the bar. Once you have arrived at the bar, you will not have to worry about having too many options. Take your pick and slap down your card and open up a tab. Make your way to the far left end of the bar and get your name on the pool list. Then on the wall next to you, pick your favorite song to play in their free jukebox. Find a funky table to sit at and enjoy the neat figurines looking up at you. Don't forget to look up at that greenery again. It's the most you'll see in ABQ. Once you hear your name called for a table, play some pool but don't be THAT person. Have fun, tip your bartender, and don't drive intoxicated. read more

I am super excited to find Anodyne. I had heard good things but it took me far too long to actually get there. The atmosphere is perfect. It has this the "it" factor that I'm always looking for in a bar: cozy and dimly-lit. There are tucked-away booths, a long row of pool tables, plants galore hanging around a skylight, a free jukebox, and pinball machines in the back. The bar has a wide variety of beers between what they have in cans, bottles, and on tap, and they have liquor as well. I've never seen a drink menu, but from what I've seen ordered I think you can get just about anything unless you wanted, like, a frozen daiquiri. Anodyne can get extremely crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, but that's true of any bar. I normally don't like crowded places, but Anodyne feels right and, as crowded as it gets, my friends and I have always managed to find a place to perch. New favorite [foodless] spot. read more
