My night started off rough because I was supposed to meet people here and I went into Sister bar by mistake. The sign is not clear at all. So for new people going here, it is NOT the bar with the pretty store front. It is the discreet double doors that lead to a poorly lit staircase. The cocktails were gross and poorly made (but only $5). They had a pretty large beer selection. But if you are looking for quality cocktails, this is not the place. It is pretty much half booze of some kind, half soda of some kind in a pint glass, regardless of the cocktail. If you're lucky, you'll get a lemon on your glass. The music was decent, and the pool tables are obviously the main attraction. The problem is that if too many people stand around the bar, they start encroaching on the pool table space. The bar itself is so tiny and there are only ever 2 bar tenders working so you end up with like 30 people standing around trying to get a drink. My favorite part was probably all of the neat plants they have hanging in there. Kind of cool atmosphere, but the Nob Hill bars are waaaay better. I may return to play pool, but this is not my favorite bar. read more

Came here for a jack and coke.. Which was standard quality for a dive. Played an hour of pool ($6=not bad) especially since the tables were basically brand new. Cues were also pretty new/straight.. Though only one weight option (heavier). I liked that the place was on the second floor of a building that had another bar (Sister) which had live music playing. read more

When I walked in, I felt like I was in a man cave from the 70s in the best way possible. A big crowd packed around the row of pool tables and congregated among the many thriving houseplants. The mood lighting and funky furniture really makes the space.The bar was busy all night, and offered many reasonably priced local brews, I opted for a classic Marble Double White (or two!) Cheap drinks! Great beverages. This is a very interesting environment you'll never know what you're gonna get. Sometimes the vibe is very chill and fun and sometimes the vibe is uncomfortable, sweaty, and crowded. Bartenders are hit or miss. But if you get a good one you are in good hands. One of the safer places downtown and a perfect place to pregame effex. The crowd is very hipster and very entertaining to watch. They have a great selection of music and pool! Great place, we've been playing pool here for six years. The place can be a bit strange at times but it is a enjoyable place to relax. Their Facebook page stated they allow dogs. Traveled all the way downtown, paid for parking, walked into the bar with my dog only to be told by the doorman "we don't allow dogs anymore, health inspector classes fruit & ice as a food item, so we had to ban dogs, it's been that way for about 4-5months". Informed him their Facebook page states they allow dogs, he shrugged and said they just hadn't updated it yet. In 4-5months you couldn't take 20seconds to update your dog policy on your only remaining webpage? Since the official Anodyne website no longer exists. Sorry Anodyne, you've lost my business and won't recommend anyone else your way, simply because of your apathy to update your own online representation. Dog shit. Three different times in a span of an hour and a half. Big piles of dog shit that the owner/owners didn't even bother to pick up until the door guy went and found them to clean it up. Clearly that happens often. I was on a date. One of the piles of dog shit just so happened to end up under our pool table. The date ended at the exact moment we realized that a dog had taken a shit underneath our pool table. No, there will not be another date. I get it...they like dogs. It's dog friendly. The clientele is very diverse, which is a good thing. The service was quick and they wouldn't let people cut in line for drinks. The Moscow mules are cheap and delicious but not served in a copper mug. This place doesn't try to be a place it's not. It has pool, plants, and pleasantries. read more

This place is like my second home. The drinks are strong, the bartenders are generally fast and friendly, the lights are low, and the music is often decent. However, I took an older friend of mine there one day who was visiting from out of town and he brought it to my attention that the place is a gal'darn hipster haven. This is a tricky one to review because I know that depending on who you are, you're going to love this place or hate it. Anodyne is great for college kids and people who enjoy sitting around listening to music that is too loud and waiting forever to fight for drinks. That being said, the drinks are really good, once you get them. The bar is a small corner of the room and there is no clear path to the bartenders so you get to fight through the unorganized crowd and the people seated there. read more

Anodyne has the best selection on beers in ABQ and has some of the best prices I've seen. Sometimes you'll luck out and get one of ratebeers top 20 beers in the world, on tap! The atmosphere is second to none, with no BS. Going out in ABQ usually means lots of posing and posturing. Not in Anodyne, as the place is just relaxing and enjoyable. The dark atmosphere is very welcoming, a great place to enjoy a night with your friends, as their music selection is fantastic and constantly changing. Great tournament sized pool tables, though my one complaint would be their proximity to each other and the back wall. A pretty cool bar for hanging out and talking or playing pool (numerous tables) in the middle of Albuquerque downtown nightlife district near numerous other bars and clubs. A truly FANTASTIC selection of bottled beers from all over the World, I am pretty certain this is the best international beer selection you will find in the state of New Mexico.. the crowd leans towards "alternative" or a modern day version of "punk rock" style.. Mostly 20somethings, but all ages would be accepted here and you will see some older folks.. Lots of piercings and tattoos, but this place is fairly large and always seems to have enough people in it that the crowd cannot be categorized as being just members of some "subculture".. This is one of the chillest bars downtown. It's a very cool place to hangout. They make the best grasshoppers in the city here. Most other bartenders don't know what a grasshopper is. Lots of pool tables and one of the only spots with pinball machines. read more

Anodyne is a very hipster place, it's got the whole look, (books on the wall, old fashioned furniture, lots of kitchy stuff everywhere), the attitude is friendly, the staff is nice and the place seems inviting. The only thing I'm not sold on is the atmosphere, it's just not my kind of place, it's definitely trying to appeal to a particular group of people, but I'm not among them. I just turned 21 and i had my PASSPORT and ID and they still didnt let me in. As long as you have your ID and a second document proving your age they should let you in. Awesome Hangout spot. I stopped here with my girlfriend on our most recent road trip to kill a little time and relax for a bit. The place had the atmosphere worthy of a film. With one row of pool tables and a medium sized bar. There was plenty of couches and tables scattered around the rest of the loft (love the classic feel of a pool hall on the second floor). This is another one of my top bars in ABQ. The crowd ranges from young to early 30s. Students, professionals and hipsters rule this bar.
