I had gotten highlights from a different salon that I was very unhappy with, so I booked a last minute appointment with Angelo to fix the tone of my hair since this salon is right near my apartment. Angelo was very understanding of the issue and my concerns, and was able to blend and color correct my highlights. I was so upset with my hair before coming but left feeling much better, it's clear he has been doing this a long time and is very skilled! I have been waiting for a few monthes now to get my hair dyed a silver/lilac and was really nervous about looking for someone in New York. The last time I had my hair processed it came out feeling like straw and the color was way off. This time around was complete luck. I went to a different salon on 14th street and the woman seemed unsure about whether she could dye my hair or not. I felt uncomfortable going with someone who wasn't confident with what they were doing and sad that I may not be able to get my hair the way I wanted it. I ended up walking down to Sullivan Street and passed by Anonymous. I'm so glad I did too. Dena is amazing and knew exactly what I wanted. She was careful and tested pieces before deciding on what to do. The entire process took under 4 hours.. which is not what I was expecting AT ALL and it came out the exact color I was imagining. On top of the fast processing and friendly staff.. my hair still feels soft! It's cash only but worth saving up for if you have a specific vision in mind. read more

I've been searching for a good hair salon in Manhattan for months and I decided to give this one a shot after my friend mentioned it was down the block from her apartment. I called the salon and spoke to the owner. He was very accommodating and was able to make me an appointment for later in the week. I was so happy to find a salon open a bit later than most, I can never find the time to get my hair done during the week. The owner recommended I see Tyler for my balayage. Tyler was so sweet and clearly knows what she's doing. After showing her a few photos she knew exactly what I wanted done. I'm so happy with the balayage and my hair looks so much healthier after a trim and root touch up too. I received compliments all weekend! Angelo is the absolute best! He's been doing my highlights and cut now for about seven years. Before Angelo, no one ever got my blonde highlights to the exact tone I was after and I was paying dearly for all the trial and error. Angelo is truly an artist with an amazing eye for color. I always say he knows me better than I know myself and I know he will just do an intuitive and beautiful job every time. Having just left SF, and my stylist of 12 years, I was not looking forward to trying to find a stylist here in NY. So, I waited, and waited, and waited. Luckily, my wife decided to find one for me. After asking a coworker with particularly cute, short, and dyed hair where she went, she just made an appointment for me and sent me an invite for the time and place. So, I wasn't even sure I knew where I was going when I stepped into the salon, looked around at everyone, met my new stylist Angelo, and sat down. After introducing himself (all 65 pounds of him) cracking a joke with a coworker, and ending a lively conversation about his escapades the night before, he casually played with my hair, asked what I was thinking about doing, and began his work. After about 10 minutes, I realized happily and somewhat serenely that I had, indeed, walked into an East Coast rendition of my exact salon in the Castro in SF, Shag, owned by Scott Stanley. Now, of course the most difficult is changing stylists, but the salon vibe is equally important to me. And let me tell you, this is the exact type of salon I love. No ridiculous groups of actresses and model-types with surly expressions or pretentious glances, no over-the-top stations that look more deluxe than the haircut your getting, and no attitude. Just a small shop with great stylists, lively conversation, and friendly chatter. Angelo figured my hair out instantly, and I have been going to him ever since. He always changes the style up just enough each time to not get me bored, yet honors my slightly boring desire to keep pretty much the same hair, save for some color changes, throughout the year. I don't know whether to put two stars or three. The staff was so nice, but jesus, the blowout and logistics... If you had seen me last night immediately post-cut, you'd have run the other way. It looked AWFUL. What is the DEAL with these ca. 2002 blowouts? I looked totally insane. I immediately went home, cried a little (seriously), got into the shower, and fixed it my way. Looks way better. I went in for a trim, and got just that, with a little bit of shape. The shape doesn't look bad, but it's not what I wanted. Either way, she did actually do a very small trim, so I can still feel like I'm growing out my hair. Pros: nice staff, relatively cheap for NYC ($65), walk-ins accepted. Cons: crappy hair wash (shampoo all in my ear, and the products smelled so awful! I have a delicate lady-nose, so take this with a grain of salt), cash only (wtf?! Oh, they also accept CHECKS. I'm telling you, welcome to 2002.), crappiest blowout ever read more

Fabulous Hair Salon. First went for a color correction. My hair needed major help. Tyler was amazing. She is patient and thorough, explains everything and did a Fantastic job with my hair. I just went back for a full head of highlights and a hair cut. I am so happy. I have gotten so many compliments on both. Anonymous is such a friendly salon. No one rushes you or makes you wait and spend too much time here. All the stylists are welcoming and very talented. I plan on going to Tyler for all my hair needs including Keratin. Have you ever wished there was such a thing as a barber shop for women? If so, then Anonymous is your place! This no-frills whole in the wall salon has been in the neighborhood for ages. So have the stylists and most customers are regulars-which means you can catch up on neighborhood gossip galore. Yvonne gives a damn good hair cut at a very reasonable price. This is New York City the way it used to be. So go get your hair done, before this place disappears as so many others like it have already. But beware: there are no fancy styling products, no scalp massage, and barely a towel to protect your neck. And it's cash only! read more

I haven't cut my hair in three or four years. It takes a lot for me to feel comfortable enough to make a change like that. I walked up to anonymous and felt completely at home. Kathleen took really good care of me. I have never had my hair cut this short and I am in love with it! Not only was the service really good, but the people and the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. The owner walked in half way through the cut and was very nice and boosted my confidence even more than Kathleen. What a treasure I've discovered in my own neighborhood! Anonymous Hair Salon is that treasure! Pat, the owner, the best of the best. Only 3 blocks from my apt., I get the best ever hair cut! And I've had my hair styled by big name/reputation hair stylist in NYC for decades because of my connection to Vogue magazine. These people were good but Pat gives me exactly the style/cut I want every time. Takes her time to do it right. And what a lovely person she is. A kind of "earth mother/sister". I stumbled upon this place right after moving to the area and had no idea where to go for a haircut. (I actually was getting lunch next door at the FABULOUS Alidoro Cafe when I noticed it) They are happy to take walk-ins, and I truly met my hair soulmate here with Yvonne. She did a great job and I've been back for 2yrs now, even after moving out of the neighborhood. At one of my visits I was thumbing through a magazine and loved a random photo's haristyle and asked her what she thought. She was really excited and begged me to let her do that with my hair, which I agreed only bc of her enthusiasm and my trust in her from past experiences. IT WAS THE BEST HAIRCUT I EVER GOT!!! My coworkers and friends have all told me I can never change it bc it looks so good on me, and it's all thanks to her. She's fabulous. Dina is typically there at the same time and seems to have a very loyal customer base and great relationship with them all and serious skills too, though I haven't ventured from my fabulous Yvonne yet to know first hand. read more

Hear me out! I don't know how this place has 5 stars! The woman who cut my hair scratched my ear with her razors and the price is definitely too high for a place that cuts hair just mediocre. I would not recommend this place to anyone. You can definitely get a better haircut and atmosphere for 60$ somewhere else in soho. Update: the owner messaged me a few days after I posted this and I explained the problem. I have not heard from him since and did not receive an answer of how he was going to deal with this situation. I'm just really disappointed. read more

I went here for the first time the other day (drawn by the good Yelp reviews), and left very happy with the cut Angelo gave me. How many times have I asked for a trim and left the salon with significantly shorter hair than expected? I can't even count. Angelo listened to me and gave me the exact hair cut I wanted. Anonymous Hair Salon has changed my life. Well Angelo at the salon has. We tease all the time about my story. It's been about 4 years that I am going to Anonymous, which is a great little salon in Soho. It's a neighborhood place, which makes me feel like the Soho of the 90's (my favorite time for being in Soho) before the mega stores moved in. The salon staff is talented! If you want to read my story, read on. If not, just go, you won't be disappointed. One day at work, a client came in after going to Angelo and her hair looked great. I did the usual "where did you get your hair cut. . ." I was scheduled to get my hair cut that afternoon at my usual ok place. I called Anonymous and they had an appointment for that afternoon. I cancelled my appointment and headed down to Soho. Angelo cut my hair and that was only the beginning. Being a devout curly girl, previously I tried all the curly girl salons in NYC, but they didn't do anything great for my hair. Angelo made my hair look great without the pretentiousness of those salons. One day, in Angelo's way, gentle and nonchalant he convinced me to let him blow it out. It looked amazing! And even more amazing he taught me how to style my hair on my own. It takes the same amount of time as defusing the curls. I can still wear my hair curly when the weather is bad or I feel like curls. But I see myself so differently when I blow dry my hair. The compliments from my husband, family and friends are great to hear as well. The recognition on the street is nice. I'm happily married, but who doesn't like a wink or a smile from someone. I used to change hair dresser every year or so until I met Angelo. I look forward to my appointments. Sometimes I need a little hair therapy and bring in pictures. Angelo is great with consolations and cuts to precision. Sometimes, I put my hair in his hands and the cut is amazing. He can cut or color. He is so talented!!! I haven't been to anyone else in the salon, but I've seen amazing heads walk out the front door. My story begins about 5 months ago when I went to a chain hair salon and got myself a REALLY short haircut. The haircut wasn't great but it was what it was and life went on. Fast forward to the present and I've got a mullet as I attempt to grow my hair back. I told myself I would just it grow out and not touch it but things were getting ugly. I needed to take action... I just moved to Soho and like to stay close for things like nails, brows and cuts. So, naturally I yelped what was around me and was impressed with the reasonable price ($55+) and by the fact that they also had great reviews. I called to see if they had anything available today and within twenty minutes I was sitting down getting my hair cut. Ivonne was my stylist and she was GREAT! I explained to her that even though my hair was still short, I couldn't deal with the mullet i was growing. Something needed to be done! And Ivonne did just that. She gave me one of the best haircuts I've gotten in a while (maybe forever) I'll definitely be going back here again. My hair is in the best state it's been in a while. read more

I have been going to this salon for many years - too many too count. The entire staff is amazing. They are all hard workers but they make it a fun environment. My stylist is Angelo (he is also my cousin). I'm a person that never knows what to do with my hair but when i sit in his chair - i know he will always make me look beautiful. He is a master of coloring. He looks at you once and knows exactly what to do. He always give me the best cut and i can never duplicate his blow-outs. Thanks for always making me look beautiful!
