I don't know WHAT the issue was with our server, Jaimee D. Our experience was horrible. She practically ignored our table. We had to ask for everything from flatware to "can you take our order now". SHE WAS AWFUL! I have been to this restaurant before and had excellent service. We watched her service every table with grace and yet, pretend we didn't exist. It's my birthday and I am not happy about the experience. SHE IGNORED US. PERIOD. Our main course was cold. When a customer complains about the service, you would expect for it to improve, right? NO! I guess she just gave up. We had to talk to the manager 3 times and that didn't help at all. I am beyond disappointed. This is the worst experience that I have personally ever had at ANY restaurant and that is no lie. They gave us breakfast beignets, but, still gave us poor attention. I just don't get it. WHY? And, I don't want to hear that crap about it's a holiday! We sat at that table for over 2 hours and watched other customers come and go at tables next to us. This was poor and just plain awful. And THIS is what I will tell everyone who asks me about my experience. Follow up- 1/10/2019 I received a very nice phone call from the leadership at this restaurant. I must say that I was very grateful for her taking the time to listen to my concerns and apologize for my experience. I also received an apology from the waitress. So good! I went for breakfast early one morning and had the lobster omelette. It was the best omelette I've ever had. The spicy Bloody Marys are delicious- the perfect balance of flavor and spice. It was my off day, so I drank two. I normally never finish a Bloody Mary. Everyone there was really pleasant and welcoming. It's pricey, so I doubt I'll be back frequently, but I'll definitely be back! read more

My sister and I are always on the hunt for a new brunch place and for her birthday decided to try this place. I got the protein power bowl, my sister got the crab cakes & fried green tomatoes and we split the half order of biscuit beignets and a side of bacon. By a large margin our favorite dish was the biscuit beignets. They come covered in powered sugar and with a honey and orange marmalade mixture. The power protein bowl exceeded my expectations and the staff was very accommodating to the changes I made to my order. My sister thoroughly enjoyed her crab cakes stating that although it was on the smaller side it was very meaty. The only issue we had was with our waiter. He himself was nice, but at times his service was lacking. I cant be sure but it seemed like he was still in training. My sister's order was brought out wrong twice and is wasn't anything that couldn't be fixed but it was still slightly unexpected. Additionally, I feel like some of the tables are awkwardly placed and make guest feel like they are on top of each other. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we found some menu items we would love to try next time. read more

My favorite meal is breakfast, and this is one of my favorite places to eat when I'm in Birmingham. The menu has just about anything and everything you could have on a breakfast menu. And after four trips, I haven't found anything that wasn't simply delicious. The atmosphere is also nice. I heartily recommend this place. I've been here twice for brunch and have not been disappointed. The first time I came at around 9AM on a Saturday with a friend and was seated right away. The second, it was closer to 11 or 11:30 with a party of 4 and we had to wait for about half an hour -- still not bad for a Saturday morning though! I tried the traditional breakfast with two eggs, meat, potatoes, and an English muffin. It's nothing special, but that's on me for ordering an ordinary dish. The descriptions of the dishes on their menu all sound so delicious but the flavors have not come through either time I have eaten there. My omelet was overcooked and the potatoes were undercooked. The portions were quite large and even having shared an entree with my husband, we still had left-overs. The dining areas seemed quite clean but the noise level was annoying. I loved my first visit here. I ordered the bagel with salmon cream cheese capers and poached egg. It was absolutely delicious and the egg was cooked perfectly. The potatoes were crunchy by seasoned well. We've been many times since then. Unfortunately, some of the times I've bee the food has been just plain bad. I tried one of the omelettes with lobster and it was absolutely disgusting. He lobster was fishy tasting and way overcooked. Sometimes when I ordered my salmon dish the eggs would be overcooked and the potatoes would be very old tasting. Because of its inconsistency, we don't go here as often as we used to. I haven't completely written it off my list of places to eat just because it is so good from time to time. You just never know which experience you'll get. read more

There are only two words that matter at ABE...biscuit beignets!! I had these delightful powered sugar covered pastries three weeks ago and I'm still raving about them! New York has the cronut and Birmingham has the biscuit beignet! I also had the Floridian, which is a cream cheese-filled omelette topped with garlic butter sautéed crab meat, Monterey Jack cheese and green onions. Served with country potatoes and city grits. Mmmmmmm. It was very tasty, although I do think the cream cheese was a bit excessive. However, the city grits were fabulous!! I ate so well and had food left over for breakfast the next morning! My only complaint was the service was extremely slow. It took them 10 minutes to acknowledge me and bring water after I was seated. Seemed like my table got lost in the fray. If it wasn't for that, they would be a five star. BTW, use the app to make reservations. I found this place after I landed and made reservations on my way from the airport. The problem seems to be they can't quite handle the amount of business brought in so things important to me, like good service and cleanliness, slip through the cracks. The only reason I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars is because our server, Alexis was amazing. It just truly seemed like this place did not have their ducks in a row in regards to providing an enjoyable dining experience. At one point, we could hear the kitchen staff yelling at one another. We left slightly less hungry than when we arrived (food was cold) and much more aggravated. This place doesn't deserve Alexis on staff and I hope she finds a workplace/management that will value and appreciate her skills and work ethic. read more

I've gone to Another Broken Egg a few times over the years, and my opinion of them is unchanged. I know to expect long waits, hit or miss service, and cold food. A little elaboration- long waits: if you arrive by 9 on the weekends, expect the wait to be long. Use the NoWait app to get in line if you can. Hit or miss service- just that. Sometimes I've gotten good service, but most of the time the servers are slow (which may end up contributing to the wait time in a vicious sort of cycle.) Cold food- no matter what, no matter when, my food is ALWAYS lukewarm to cold. Without fail. And when my service is so terrible, I usually can't muster up the energy to tell the server my food is cold because I know that will be another extended wait to have the dish fixed. On today's visit, I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken is a chicken tender featuring a breading that's hard as a brick and about an inch thick. The waffles were cold, and served with ice cold butter. It's beyond me why restaurants serve cold waffles with cold butter. Maybe the assumption is that people like to eat cold clumps of butter? Who knows. Why do I end up returning when I clearly don't prefer this restaurant? My friends like it as a cute brunch restaurant--which it is. So I oblige them. But if I can avoid it, I most certainly do. read more

My wife and I had breakfast here this morning. The egg white omelette with the baked chicken and avocado was the best egg white omelet I have ever had. My wife loved her turkey sausage omelette with the gluten free pancakes. The plain grits were creamy and very good. Fresh fruit was also very good. This was our first visit. Tasty but lukewarm food. English muffins were overcooked. Beignets were delicious with the honey orange marmalade, although they tasted pre-made (as in frozen ;) For some reason, the first time I went it was more of an "experience". Some of the ambiance was missing. Other than the fact that I was in great company (my family) the experience overall was so-so. Service was brisk, efficient, polite and a little friendlier than dry; although not as friendly as they could have been, however. Pros: There was a high health rating and the place is still picturesque. Overall, a definite cut above IHOP and Waffle house, although pricey for what you get. Overall a decent experience; about the best breakfast experience in Birmingham where there aren't very many great breakfast choices. read more

The food was so bland and my omelet was overcooked. I had a side of bacon and it was literally hard as a rock, I had to throw it away. I ordered to-go so they put some ketchup packets in my bag. After some days of free motel breakfasts (fled from Hurricane Irma) I looked for the familiar style of diner around Birmingham and didn't find any -- so I went here. More like $20 and more upmarket (neighborhood and eatery), but the omelette (seasonal, with crawdads, shrimp, and andouille) was very good, as was the coffee and the service. Parking situation wasn't too bad for a Saturday. Whole neighborhood & this eatery a bit froufrou, but a short drive to the Botanical Gardens. Worth a try. read more

Got there a little before 830 on a Sunday and while they were busy we were seated immediately. Noticed upon walking in they do have a bar. I am not sure if they serve Sunday morning. I digress...... Our server came and greeted us fast. He did not provide much chit chat and never seemed like he wanted to go that extra distance. The menu has many good breakfast options I opted for the Eggs Blackstone which I thought was very good. The English muffin was toasted perfect and the egg was nice and runny. I did notice they left off the green onion which would have completed the taste. My bf ordered the huevos rancheros which looked very good. My only recommendation for that is to not have a fried tortilla it made it difficult to eat and took away from the overall concept of the dish. My bf has 3 breakfast spots above this place but I had never been here so I wanted to try it. With that being said if and I wish yelp had half stars I would have given it a 3.5 and the reason for that would mostly be our blahhhh server and good mediocre food. read more

Went for the first time on Sunday morning about 10:30A, the day after the Tigers were crowned SEC champs. No one waiting outside, but many waiting inside. Our wait for a table for 2 was about 20-25 minutes. Worth the wait because the entire experience was great. Started with the beignets which were as someone commented not Cafe du Monde, but not bad at all. Country ham is always my litmus test for a breakfast place, and the country ham here was very good: cut a bit thin for my tastes, but earthy and salty as it should taste. Nothing special about the English muffin, it was delivered a little cold. Orange juice good, would have preferred homemade jellies and jams, and the Community coffee was great. Service was very good very attentive. Finally the place just had a good vibe...in the old location of a fine antique shop, nice decor with colorful paintings, windows facing out on a nice sunny morning...Did I mention that Auburn won the SEC championship the day before? :) read more

The Cinnamon Roll French toast was delicious. Was not happy with the omelete, it has shrimp and crab meat, the meat did not taste fresh and the omelete was barely seasoned. I did enjoy the potatoes and my husband thought the Rueben was ok, Arby's super rueben was better and cheaper.
