So happy to have finally made it in here. The ambiance is a bit different from most of the places we visit but in a good way. The restaurant was completely full and the noise level was at that perfect loud hum to drown out conversations around you and give your own anonymity. The server was friendly and our small plates and drinks came out in quick order. Now for the food: the panzanella won the day but the mussels and ceviche had good heat to them and were close behind. The tomato dish was extremely rich. I was glad to be able to share it with others and I deeply regret not ordering the mushrooms after watching them pass by. We finished with the bucatini and it was a hit for the majority. I was the clear anomaly. It was good, but not good enough to keep me from trying other dishes in the future. And there will be a future. The berry crisp dessert was the perfect level of sweetness and will definitely be reordered at our next visit. I never got a chance to steal a bite of the s'more dish but it looked wonderful and vanished quickly. We'll head back soon to try those mushrooms! read more

Oh Answer, I am sure you didn't intend for this interpretation of your name, but, to me, you are the ANSWER to the missing piece in so many of Nashville's neighborhoods. What a dreamy enhancement to Sylvan Park. The setting is so lovely with a busy open kitchen at the back, a gorgeous central bar and low tables surrounding at the periphery. We checked in with the hostess and we're promptly escorted to our table. Of note: the woman who checked in prior to us was "winging it" and hoping for a table for four without a reservation; the hostess kindly offered her to wait at the bar, but the message was clear that on weekends reservations are strongly recommended. So read on to be enticed by the amazing food we ate and then race to book a table! The menu is simple: starters and mains, cocktails and wine. Service was efficient, friendly, helpful and polite. We began with steak tartare - a lovely preparation with excellent chips, and albondigas - plump and flavorful meatballs made with aged beef AND brisket. (Talk dirty to me, Answer!) For entress we had a delicious halibut dish and a fabulous pasta dish with roasted grapes. The flavors were complex, but not overly challenging. I was getting full, and saying goodbye to any remaining morsel on my plate was difficult. Drinks-wise, I began with a sparkling concoction called Bubbles. And my husband had a lovely, fruity punch. We had a delicious and reasonably priced bottle of wine that paired so well with our meal. Not sure why I avoided this place for so long. For those staying outside and socially distanced, answer has an absolutely adorable patio that you can request seating on. Ordered tons of apps, so no guidance on the main plates. Enjoyed everything from the riff on a cobb salad to mussels. The menu is a bit all over the place...don't come to answer expecting straight up American fare. There were influences of Italian, Asian, and Mexican going on. All the plates were absolutely delicious and so were the cocktails. If I had to pick a favorite, the arancini were on the top of the list. My one complaint is the price. On the higher end of Nashville restaurants, with portion sizes that felt small for the charge. I would definitely turn this into a once a quarter trip, and you should too! read more

To find breakfast or brunch in Nashville that isn't all about eggs, biscuits and gravy, takes some effort so when I found Answer (close to our trip to Image Optical), we went for! Good decision!! I had the Baked Eggs. Eggs baked in Italian tomato sauce with heavy doses of fresh garlic and basil with grilled bread. And hubs had a fabulous egg bowl over creamy grits and crimini mushrooms with a FABulous flavor! With 3 slices of bacon cooked to crispy perfection so that they stood like breadsticks. Dinner and cocktails also looks good. We'll need an excuse to land in this part of town again! Big YUM! Next time I'll order hubs' choice. If there was a need for a neighborhood gem, they ANSWERED the call. Great place to grab drinks, share food and have conversation. The service was impeccable. We didn't want for anything and the staff was always ready with a recommendation when we wanted to order a new item. We tried the mushrooms, arancini, albondigas, goat cheese and the bucatini. Sylvan park area, close to Vandy. We drive past this place frequently and have been seeing it pop up on dining lists, so we gave it a try ON VALENTINES DAY! Daring, I know! Figured we'd have a happy hour drink and go home to eat but we had such a LOVELY time that we stayed for dinner. Happy hour: stiff drinks, generous pours. We had featured cocktails cherry chai Manhattan (very good, not too froufrou or sweet, well balanced), cava, draft beer, Malbec sparkling wine. All good. Apps: hummus trio was yummy but winner was the "hot trout" spread with yummy cornichon relish and AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT of sourdough bread--really different and tasty, nice textures and heat. Don't recommend our third app: the very popular tomato-based dip, which was bubbling-hot & pretty but meh on taste and had way more wet/sweet tomato "dip" for the teeny amount of provided bread. This seems to be a happy hour trend around town--to eat the goodies, you need some bread or some conveyance to get it into your mouth, people! So, now that we're all cozy & toasty & enjoying the hipster ambiance and great mix of old/young demographics, we hit up our very cheerful & professionally helpful bartender Kaitlyn about the OTHER side of the menu, the regular appetizers & entrees. Frankly, needed to sober up some! Priced from $35-16, nothing toooo pricy here. We went for a rich lamb bolognese bucatini and a light & lemony bay scallop spaghetti . Don be fooled by the kiddy-friendly name, this was grown up pasta with an ample amount of seafood for a very reasonable $17 or so. I'd definitely return here. Pasta wasn't as "fine dining" level or complex as, say, rolf&daughters, but it was quite good and well priced in a convenient and welcoming place. A definite neighborhood vibe, accessible, not snooty. Bar lines the center of restaurant, comfy barstools amazingly, with 2 rows of tables around the perimeter; lively but not too noisy to talk. Answer is a fun new spot I tried earlier this week. The menu is unique, offering up tasting plates + entrees fusing flavors from different cultures. If someone were to ask me "what kind of food do they serve?", I really wouldn't have a definitive answer, but there is definitely someone for everyone. The space has a casual vibe, and offers seating for small and bigger groups around a full-service bar. The high ceilings make the space feel extra roomy, and make the close seating arrangements not feel close at all. The Service: The service gets 6 stars. I wish that was possible. We were promptly seated, and our server was the bee's knees. Haley was attentive, knowledge, and friendly, without feeling intrusive. She offered her take on the menu, provided suggestions, and answered any questions we had. She even went above and beyond and offered to shine her phone light over our dishes so I could have the best photograph. That is some A++ service right there! The Food: The menu was diverse, and it was hard to decide what to order. Everything we ate was incredible!!! To start, we shared the crab and plantain. CRAB // jumbo lump, avocado, lime, herbs, radish, spent grain toast ($13). This was an elevated avocado toast, topped with chunks of jumbo lump crab, pickled red onion, and watermelon radish. Even though it was a brunch dish, it felt right at home on our dinner table. PLANTAIN // chorizo, manchego, jalapeño, chayote, charred scallion ($11). Two pieces of fried plaintain, stuffed with chicken chorizo and topped with a melted manchego cheese. Heat scaredy cats, have no fear. There was only one slice of pickled jalapeno per plantain, so it wasn't spicy! These were really good as well. We really wanted to try the chicken too, and we're excited to come back for that next. For entrees, we ordered the halibut and bucatini. HALIBUT // swiss chard, bacon, pickled golden raisin, romesco, saffron ($28). A hearty piece of tender halibut was served over perfectly cooked swiss chard, with bacon and pickled golden raisins mixed in. This was served alongside a romesco sauce. The dish was a perfect combination of sweet and salty! BUCATINI // lamb & pork ragu, pine nut, bread crumbs, pecorino, herbs ($18). A heaping bowl of al dente bucatini, piled high with a creamy and cheese bolognese sauce. The bread crumbs + pine nuts were a fun touch that added some crunch to the dish. This was different than your typical bolognese, as it wasn't so much a tomato base, and felt creamier. A delicious pasta dish! Will I be back? ABSOHECKINLUTELY! I love Tapas and stopped in for dinner after work with my SO. The space is open and beautiful, and I had a tough time deciding what to order. We had a bubbly waiter who was a bit goofy but did a decent job with our meal. We ordered the gin drink with egg whites and sampled the crab toast, plantain, and lamb. The drink was good (but a bit sweet for my SO). The crab toast overall had a solid flavor but the crab tasted like it came out of a can and not fresh. The plantain had a delicious center with chorizo and manchego but the outside was dry and flavorless. It definitely needed more of the filling. The highlight of the whole meal was the lamb. It was perfectly cooked and we loved the eggplant/chickpea mixture! It was fantastic! We split the entrée and went for the pasta, bucatini with pork/lamb ragu. In case you don't know, bucatini is a mixture of spaghetti and macaroni (aka really long macaroni). Once again it was a bit of a let down but was much better once we asked for sides of pecorino. However, I only had a few bites and we were not blown away by this dish either. Overall there were more misses during the meal and I'm not itching to go back. However, I am always tempted by tapas so maybe I'll come back and give them another shot in the future. read more

Four stars because the tapas plates are interestingly creative. I'll return for Sunday brunch and dinner to check on the quality consistency. It's a lovely restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxing and has a more mature crowd. Reservations are definitely encouraged a few days in advance. We didn't have any problems finding parking directly upfront on the street. Tucked away from the main road(Charlotte Pike) in an adorable neighborhood which is a stones throw away from Sylvan Park. It's at least a 45 minute wait to an hour. The group and I still wanted to splurge ourselves that random evening so we were able to get a couple of seats at the centrally placed bar and absorb the ambiance. Ordered a couple of really nice red blended wines, sweet white sangria, rose and beer. Didn't really keep up with the time but it did seem like 45 minutes had gone by quickly when chatting while watching the other impatient/eager patrons come and go. We were promptly seated in small outdoor patio around 7:45pm and watched the pink sunset fade into night. Servers immediately came over to take additional drink orders and provided room temperature water. You can ask for a glass of ice. Ordered all meat/seafood tapas plates. I don't get impressed easily as I've eaten chicken feet, cow tongue & stomach tripe, bull's penis so therefore my personal palette is different from others. Here's my scale of 1-5. (Basic to highly reccommend) Arancini.($11) 3 shrimp and pork flavored fried rice balls and herbs: 3 Octopus.($13) Tender octopus the texture of chicken. Great Job: 3 Chicken.($12) Salty well seasoned bone-in fried chicken. Everyone's favorite: 5 Crab.($13) CHUNKS of Crab and avocado on one slice of toast. This new addition to the up-and-coming Sylvan Park neighborhood is easily one of my instant favorite restaurants in this city! Everything about Answer is top-notch. The ambiance is wonderful. Modern design, gorgeous lighting, an open kitchen, and an outdoor patio all come together to create a space that's both lively-energetic and personal-intimate. The drinks menu, too, is on point. There's a nice selection of beers, wines, and spirits, and the staff are great about recommending drinks that pair well with your small plates and entrees. The cocktail selection is a bit more limited (there's 'the' gin cocktail, 'the' vodka cocktail, etc.) but they all look really creative, and I'm definitely looking forward to returning for happy hour to give those a try. I went with the Malbec, which was a solid choice. And the food ... whoa, it's on a whole 'nother level. It's hard to pin down the cuisine here, except to say that it does a bit of everything and it totally, totally works. We ordered the mussels, octopus, plaintain, and panzanella, and were blown away by all of them. In particular, we were *in love with* the mussels, which were prepared in a sort of wine vinaigrette (?) with just the right hint of jalapeño. If these four dishes are any indication, everything on the menu here will make you go, "Whoa, I've never seen ______ done this way before!" and it's an experimentation that completely clicks. If you appreciate other small plates or so-called 'New American' (whatever that is) restaurants in Nashville like Rolf & Daughters, Fifth and Taylor, Silo, or Butcher & Bee, you will definitely like Answer. Wow! I'm always getting introduced to new places when I'm in the -ville, and Answer did not disappoint! Came here with friends for dinner and drinks and was pleasantly surprised at the breadth of the menu. We all ordered different drinks (and they were all great!) We ordered several plates to share - I was particularly fond of the mushrooms and plantains - but all of it was good. Our server was helpful with recommendations with drinks and food suggestions. This spot has all the makings of a great restaurant but unfortunately the menu and food falls a bit short. I ordered take out about a year ago- the food was decent but nothing to write home about. We returned last week and I was shocked to see the menu had barely changed. The menu is small so I would have assumed it rotated more with the seasons. Despite the same menu, the food was again, just OK. The decor in the restaurant is inviting and chic but keep in mind it does get loud when full. Although I probably won't be back for dinner, I'll probably check out this spot for a happy hour. read more

There's a lot of restaurants that are opening in Nashville these days. What separates them, other than great food is a very good staff. Answer, hits both of those spots. I had brunch with my family today and had the French toast for the table. It was sweet and very decadent. Just how you wanna start your brunch. Then I had the fish and chips. It was incredible! It came out hot and very crispy. I was skeptical about ordering it for brunch, but I was proven otherwise. I'm sure I'll be ordering this again. I've never actually eaten inside the restaurant... but we have done the "Sunday Supper" several times, and it's phenomenal. Ya'll, the food is SO GOOD. It's so nice to have a day when someone else does all the cooking- just reheat and eat. It's a legit amazing 5 course meal, delivered curbside, the pricing can't be beat, and the staff is so so nice! One of these days I'll get over there for an in person meal- but in the meantime I will continue to enjoy the take home suppers! Came here for a date nite we wanted to try a new place in Nashville and I knew it opened not too long ago. Loved that it had a parking area they definitely need to get some lights out there since its in the back of the restaurant. But the place is small but the setting is really nice with an intimate feel. We got 3 small plates to share and then we shared the pork entree. We got the crab appetizers and it was fresh and tasty, the mushrooms was also really good bc we both love mushrooms and the steak tartare was amazing. It had mango and other fruits with it and that just set it off. And the pork entree was so tender and full of flavor. Everything was good, the food, drinks and the service. read more

We had a bunch of appetizers and they were 5 stars for sure. You have to get the avocado hummus with chips... truly delicious.
