It really saddens me to leave this poor review about Anthem, I have lived here for 14 months and the first 6 months were amazing but sadly things have been going downhill ever since. Firstly our leasing Consultant Sara left the building in December and along with her left the heart of this community. There is nothing particularly aesthetically special about our apartments, what enticed people to move in and especially renew their leases was the strong sense of community built by Sara and our old community director Amanda. Covid has been a particularly hard time at Anthem. Firstly the lack of communication is pretty astounding. We are never given any updates on how our building chooses to open our amenities (as gyms/restaurants/parks are open in Seattle). They passive aggressively took all the furniture off the roof, illegally barricaded the stairwells, removed the grills, turned off the fire pit, and put caution tape in our lobby. They also put blinds in the office windows blocking any view residents had to wave at staff. They also redirected a sprinkler to shoot at the fire pit just in case you tried to spend some time up there. Now we are allowed on the roof but can't bring a guest? While most of us live alone having one guest join us on the roof is much safer than spending time with them in our homes. (They claim it's for our safety) In order to get ANY sort of question answered, you almost need to harass our regional director who is our only line of communication to corporate. As of now almost all buildings in Seattle have use of their rooftop, gym, grills, and anthem has not taken any steps to make them available to their residents. So many other buildings have gone above and beyond for their residents, where anthem does the bare minimum. Seeing my friends buildings (anthems competition) offer grab and go breakfast/dinner, coffee bars, food trucks, anything to make their residents feel at home saddens me because our community events used to be such a bright spot in our days. There's a reason there are a lot of empty units in our building, there is no reason for me to entice anyone to stay or move in here anymore. We are treated like children who are being punished and need to be "monitored". I have expressed all of these concerns for months and NOTHING has happened. My only hope is our management will be as concerned about keeping their residents as gaining new ones. read more

The responses from AWS are garbage. You guys need to do better. We pay way too much money to have someone in Texas spew the same response time after time to valid concerns. You guys made a really huge mistake letting go Robert in maintenance, he was a huge asset. I actively tell people in the community to not live here. read more

Love Anthem! They have really great resident events frequently. The common areas in the lobby are beautifully furnished and a great plus to have. The apartments are modern with all the best appliances. All of the staff is great, very friendly and responsive to any needs. Also all the residents I have been have been super friendly! This is such a great find in Seattle, I hope to stay here for a while! read more

I've lived here for two years. The apartment: pretty nice! The layout is great and there's a lot of vertical storage. The insulation between units is really good too. There is no air conditioning or garbage disposal, two things I overlooked when moving in, but I bought a portable AC and compost. The building: also has nice amenities. The gym is clean and functional and the rooftop is nice. There's limited parking and the garage is small. The management: This investment property company is located in Texas, where there are very different laws for renters. This, coupled with an unaware apartment manager means I've spent some time going back and for about what can and can't be charged and what our rights our as renters. Things that should be simple. It's been tiring. Hannah in the office and Robert (maintenance) are fantastic--Really professional and attentive. The new property manager though, Melissa, who started a few months ago is awful and seems to really dislike people. She never introduced herself and is unapproachable. She put blinds on the window of the office during the day. Once I watched my sister's dog and passed her in the lobby (without even saying hello) and she added pet rent to my rent for the month. Without even a conversation. The few interactions we have had she's worked in bad mouthing about her former employer and the corporate CWS company she works for now! It's really chilling and unwelcoming so I avoid her at all costs and contact the office only on days Hannah is there. So it's a trade off. The apartment and building are pretty ok and the location is great but I can't recommend or refer anyone live here right now. read more

Anthem on 12th was my first apartment I moved into straight out of college. I have lived here for almost 3 years and am sad to be moving out this week as I will be moving back home. For me, I felt management did a good job with getting back to me quickly with any questions I had, fixing any maintenance issues promptly, welcoming me with open arms, and taking the time to chat with me when I would pass by the office. One thing I really loved about living here was how spacious my studio was!!! I also loved the view I had from my apartment over looking Seattle. During this covid pandemic they have brightened my day by dropping off goodie bags full of essentials at my door (toilet paper, paper towels, etc) to receiving an e-gift card to dominos (super excited to order pizza this week!) The perks of living at Anthem is that it is a close walking distance to Swedish Medical Center (where I work) I've also met one of my good friends in this building and some awesome neighbors. Living here, It has been really easy to get to different places by the light rail or bus. I never owned a car while living in Seattle and I had no issues with walking or using public transportation. Thank you Anthem for an amazing 3 years. read more

This is a long-overdue review. I moved in towards the end of May, and I have to say the staff made this process so unbelievably easy. From Sara staying on top of things and calling me when we needed any additional paperwork to Chris handing us our keys and doing the move-in check, everything was so smooth. Not to mention, they even have 1-2 dollies that we used to help move our stuff, AND there is an elevator. My previous complex, as well as on-campus apartment, did not have elevators...you could imagine how painful it was moving everything up three flights of super narrow stairs. We had quite a few things to get rid of from our previous home, and Chris was so helpful in finding a way to get rid of our gigantic couch we obviously couldn't put in the dumpster. The building itself is also beautiful. The rooftop is a great space to host gatherings, with a bonfire and two grills to barbecue on. There is a great view of Mount Rainier and around the rest of Cap Hill. The lobby also has a great area for gatherings as well. Mail and packages are kept safe (in my previous building my roommate and I had our packages stolen a handful of times), which is a HUGE plus. I've only had one maintenance request, just to replace the fridge light bulb, but that was taken care of within the day. The only complaint I have about the unit itself is the windows...the panel opens from the bottom edge, opening upward as opposed to a sliding panel or door-like panel, and given the construction of the building and being on an inside unit there isn't much ventilation in the summer. That is usually easily fixed though, either by closing the shades and windows during the day (which means sadly no natural light) or just propping the front door open for some nice cross ventilation (and dare I say free A/C from the halls). I think it's safe to say that we are loving it here! read more

When we first moved to Seattle almost three years ago, Anthem was wonderful. We had great staff and respectful neighbors. About a year in the building started going through office staff like there was no tomorrow. We saw a multitude of people come and go from the leasing office. Packages started getting stolen. People started letting their dogs poop all over the roof and leaving it. Maintenance requests were marked as completed online when that was simply not the case. Posts for the community board online suddenly took forever to get approved if they were approved at all. Elevators are constantly out of service. We decided months before our most recent lease was up we were leaving the building. My partner and I gave official notice that we were moving out almost a month before we left. The day we moved out the building had scheduled painting and maintenance for the lobby. This meant the not only were we told we were unable to use the garage to load up the cars but we had to navigate our way around the crew, wet(and slippery)floors, cords for machinery, and wet paint while carrying all our boxes. There used to be a couple carts for the building to use but they disappeared months ago so we carried everything. A disappointing end to our time in the building. read more

I used to really enjoy coming to see my friends that live here, but all the amazing things that once made this building great are no longer here. The man in the office literally makes me feel so uncomfortable, waiting in the lobby I felt like I was being interrogated, which is a big deal considering I used to feel so welcomed. My friend said she was moving, and at first I was shocked. But now I understand why. Too bad. It used to be super nice to come here. read more

Anthem 12 is a awesome place to live. The staff are very Awesome! They are very freindly and professional dedicated to helping me stay safe during COVID19, responds in a timely manner, met my needs, and accommodating. Anthem used to be a place that I raved about to anyone and everyone. It was a place that fostered a true sense of community - a rarity in Seattle for sure - through monthly community events, little giveaways like a bagel station to grab on your way out the door or a cupcake to celebrate Valentine's day, and a management and maintenance team that went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and taken care of. In the last 6-9 months, the building has gone downhill. All of the staff that used to make this place great are gone. The current management (and building owners, CWS Apartments), has done a poor job of managing the changes throughout the pandemic. Miscommunication, mixed messages, complete lack of communication (changes being made with no announcement, 1-2 weeks to respond to emails) have led to a lot of frustration from residents. At one point after struggling to receive any sort of satisfactory response from the building management, I reached out to corporate to try to get some attention brought to the issues at this building. Corporate did a better job of actually responding to my emails, but everything received seemed like bland corporate platitudes. Promises for increased communication led to a "fun facts" flyer being place in the elevator. I want to know what's going on with the building, plans for aligning our building with the Govenor's pandemic response, not fun facts about the most photographed location in Seattle. In addition to the lack of communication, I have seen no re-investment going into the building this year outside of necessary COVID related purchases (signage, and a couple hand sanitizers). While I understand the pandemic has put some plans on hold, where did those budgets go? The previous team had plans and budgets for improvements to the rooftop and gym. Despite bringing this up and providing suggestions for where those funds could be best utilized considering quarantine, all suggestions were rejected, and I still haven't seen any improvements being made. My rent hasn't decreased, so it's a mystery where those funds are going, other than back into the pocket of CWS as profits. All this to say, I no longer recommend this apartment building to any of my friends and family. read more

This community as a whole has gone down hill in the past month, the pure warmth and welcoming charm is no more, and I have some questions about what happened to all the amazing things that used to make living at Anthem great: Where are the anthem dailys? Where are the monthly calendars? Why didn't we have a community event for the holidays? We ALWAYS have an event! We didn't even get holidays cards this year (and I still have mine from the year before). What about the monthly chalkboard art? How hard is it to organize packages in a visually appealing manner? How hard is it to update the damn 'pet of the month'? Why does it take days to get an email response? Why does it seem like there isn't ever anyone in the office? We moved here two months ago and have had a great experience so far. The apartments are competetively priced and the building is kept in excellent shape. Office hours are good (and extremely reliable), and maintenance requests are promptly and efficiently taken care of by Tim. Amanda and Sara invest a great deal of effort and thought into making the building feel like a true community. Neighbors here are the friendliest I've ever had in an apartment complex and I think it's because of the environment that the staff has created. read more

It's coming close to my one year mark living at Anthem and it's been nothing but great. Amanda, John, and Bianca have always been friendly and available when I need anything. The neighbors are all kind and friendly. I don't personally own a dog or animal, but seeing dogs ranging from chihuahua to Great Danes, it seems like Anthem allows all sizes and breeds. I've never had any problems with my mail and have felt very safe. There has been a few times where the garage and building had issues but was fixed relatively quickly. Highly recommend if you can get one of the rooms here, especially since it's centrally located in relation to Seattle University, Chinatown/International District and both i5 & i90. read more

Robert has been one of the highlights of living here - he is always quick to respond to service requests and always very friendly to chat with. Great rooftop view of the inaugural amazon Corp hqs and mount rainier! I dig it. Units are hardwood floored and very modern. Easy elevator access from the well decorated lobby. Strawberry planters create walkways on the rooftop. I'd live here if rent weren't so exorbitant. read more

Loved living here and really miss it! We really liked the management and were nervous when that changed; however, Amanda and Jon came in and were amazing. The building opened in 2015, has a great roof deck, well equipped gym, and is very centrally located. I worked at Swedish And didn't need a car. You can easily walk to capitol hill, central district, and downtown. Plus, several good bus lines and the street car are right there. read more

I love this place so much that when the lease was running out on my studio, I snatched up a 2br, 2ba WITHOUT a roommate locked down, just for the chance to keep (affordably) living here! I really probably shouldn't even be writing this review because I'm not sure that I want the amazing secret that is this apartment building getting out! First of all, as someone who is very serious about her interior decorating, let me just say that the units here, though widely varied in terms of layout, are all super open feeling and stylish! Secondly, and way more importantly, the staff is uh-ma-zing! I literally find myself getting into my apartment half an hour after I make it to the building because I lose time just chatting with Amanda and Sara... they are legit the best! Maintenance requests are taken care of super quickly, mail is always safe, especially packages, and the amenities are carefully taken care of. Also, this place fosters community... like for the first time I actually know my neighbors. Best of all, soooooooo dog-friendly! But seriously, don't move here... all the units keep getting rented out before I can get my friends to apply! read more

I lived here for about a year and a half and then moved to a different CWS building, Marq West. But I actually missed living here so came back a few months later. It is so different now than it used to be. I understand restrictions due to Covid, but when Amanda and Sara worked here, they actually made an effort to engage with residents. They were very personable and always helped when you had an issue. Even though we can't have resident events, I know several other buildings in Seattle that are offering extra amenities due to the restrictions. I feel like Anthem isn't even trying anymore. I think Hannah is great, never had an issue with her, but with the constant change in management, with people that don't seem to actually care about the community here, it really isn't enough. Maintenance has also gone downhill since Robert left. It just seems like management in the past actually went out of their way to make sure residents were happy. At this point I'm just waiting until my lease is up so I can find a building that actually cares about the community. I used to tell friends about Anthem and how great it is, but I will no longer recommend it to anyone. read more

I moved to Seattle with my fiancee in December 2016. We initially thought a new building with generous amenities in Capitol Hill would be out of our price range. And then we viewed Anthem. The location is fantastic, the in-unit features (washer & dryer, dishwasher, new appliances) are stellar, and other on-site amenities (rooftop common areas, gym, parking garage, and garbage/recycling/compost rooms on every floor, among others) are on point. Last but not least, the building is pet friendly, which was a deal breaker for us. All of this is provided at a reasonable price given rising rents throughout the city. I can't emphasize enough how happy I am with our decision to view the building and rent from the Anthem team! Amanda and Jon (leasing agents and property managers) and Tyler (on-site maintenance supervisor) and all support staff are wonderful, always friendly and accessible, and work hard to create a genuine sense of community within the building. Do yourself a favor and view the building. You won't regret it! read more

I've lived here for coming up on two years and I absolutely love it! The location is perfect. I'm central to Capitol Hill, downtown and the International district. The staff is super attentive and friendly and we always have fun community events. All my service requests are created on the spot and addressed right away. Package deliveries are well managed. There's a gym with racked weights, bike storage is nice and I have a sweet parking spot. The roof is great for summer BBQs. There's also the ability for tenants to rent garden space on the roof, which is rad. Pets are allowed as well and I constantly see cute pets here. Oh yeah, I also have a view of Rainer. Definitely recommend this place! read more

I recently moved back to Seattle and decided to move to Anthem on 12th. We are in love with our new place and have had such a positive experience with the team here. Jon & Amanda are super welcoming and were so helpful through our out of state move. They are dedicated to making a community here and have invested their time and energy to creating a positive environment. The building is spotless with a walkability score of 94 and transit score of 100. Coming from the Bay Area we were blown away to see a great unit with reasonable rent. Would highly recommend Anthem! read more
