One thing is for sure the pizzas and Italian joints in NJ and NY just destroy anything CA has by a magnitude of 100x easily. Pizza was excellent and the chicken Marsala was phenomenal. Servings are spot on and generous. Price is fair and quality is top notch. The flavor is decidedly east coast Italian and not that bastardized Italian Mexican taste in CA. A bit dingy inside and outdated restaurant booths, BUTTTTT this spot reminds me all too well of the classic pizzerias I knew and loved as a child. With an interior straight out of the streets of NYC (and I should know since I grew up there), not only does Anthony Francos look the part, their pizza taste the part too - if that makes sense???? Unbeknownst to me the first time we came here, Anthony Franco's is actually part of a large chain of pizzerias in NJ. I've now had the chance to try their pizza a few times, including once when my company ordered a ridiculously large number of different pies from them and, honestly, they knocked it out of the park. I've tried their regular cheese slice, pepperoni, sausage, veggie, white, vodka, upside down and eggplant slices and all of them were really good. Really good as in not too thick, not too thin and a nice even breading to the regular slices (not counting the ones that had a massive undercarriage of dough). To be honest, this has been the closest thing that I've tried to a very, very good NY slice in northern NJ. Granted, I haven't even come close to going to every pizzeria in the county, so take it for what it's for. The only knock I do have is that they make a thick version of the Buffalo and Upside Down slices along with thin versions, which I don't understand, but go for the thin one. The thick slices are really unnecessary and way too thick in breading, unless you're looking to carb load for a marathon. Definitely on our list of NJ spots to just hit up if we're in need of a quick slice. read more

I don't know how you can mess up a regular house salad, asked for the salad with no olives . Get home there are olives in the salad. Spoke to the night manager I told him my phone number so he could look up my order, of course he claims he couldn't find it. So either the cooks are doing it on purpose or just careless, someone one with allergies could've ended up in the hospital from foolishness like this. AF needs to be careful when preparing simple items. This is the second time this has happened in my order. My mom's friend turned her on to this place for pizza and she loves it (I think it's a good solid slice but nothing extraordinary) last night she wanted to order dinner and I had been saying I really want baked clams and since they had them on the menu I figured why not. We got an order of garlic bread, baked clams, eggplant rollatini, sausage and meatball combo, and baked ziti. Sadly, the clams were highly disappointing. The topping was pretty tasteless and soggy however they redeemed themselves with the rest of the food. Their red sauce is sweeter than most but has a really good flavor. The portions for everything, especially the ziti, was very good for what they charge. We ordered delivery and they were there exactly when they said they would and the food was steaming hot. Will start by saying it takes a lot to make me write any review and especially a negative one. Pick up slices here often. Their deep dish slices are great. Second time I've tried to call an order in for their house slices as a whole pie. Asked them specifically this time for the deep dish pie because the thick crust is crispy. This is what i got. A thin crust undercooked pizza. Called them when i got home and it they were unsympathetic to how i get the pizza made correctly. Tell me this is deep dish? Great quality if they could ever get an order right. If you could make a pizza the complete opposite of how a customer wants it this pizza is it. Very disappointed in both service and the food. Went to Anthony Franco's pizza on the way back from the zoo with my son, ordered a single slice of pizza for him, the girl working the counter looked at my son and said "Not too heated up?" Which was already super nice. Then she asked if I wanted it cut into smaller slices, which I assumed were going to be little strips, but she did a whole crisscross of little squares! So usually AF is always a solid spot to get a decent bite of Italian food but it seems like this place has dropped in quality drastically. The food was super bland, needed salt BADLY.
