My husband and I came here on a partly cloudy Saturday afternoon around 2pm. There were only a few tables with people sitting at them so it was a little weird when the hostess asked for our name and told us the wait would be a few minutes. Anyways, after a short wait, we were sat at a table right next to the window over looking the water. We received water immediately and our waitress arrived promptly. We ordered two beers and two entrees. Our beers didn't come out until out food did, which was a little disappointing. However, the waitress comped our drinks since they took forever to get out to us. Our food was pretty delicious. Their lunch menu is pretty limited but I found something to eat right away - the seafood Mac n cheese. It was scrumptious and I mopped up the left over sauce with the complimentary flatbread they served us. My husband had the crab toast (I think that's it's name) and it was great. He was served four pieces of toast with a generous amount of crab on top. Very filling and yummy! The visit was pretty typical for an Anthony's, one which we enjoyed the food and the view. read more

Best Happy Hour in town! Best view in town! Those are two great attributes for a restaurant such as Hearthfire to posses. While more emphasis is placed on steak than seafood, both are in ample supply with a high-class atmosphere to match. The level of service has been exceptional and will keep me coming back. And let's not forget the view. This has to be one of the best sweeping waterfront views around, definitely in Olympia. It might be a little on the pricey side for a regular spot to have an after work cocktail, but definitely worth it for a memorable experience every time you visit. read more

Great view by the water! It's classy for a date or anniversary. Their flank steak was on point, cooked medium-rare. The salmon and shrimp for the wifey was good. Not over cooked or dry fish. I brought my two sons (ages 4 & 2). It wasn't the greatest idea to bring them in the restaurant. Although they do have a kids menu. Great beer selection and nice bar area to chill while waiting for your table. The biggest issue we had was the waiter did take a really long time to get the check while the kids were having a meltdown. read more

I generally wouldn't fill out a review without trying the food first, but I felt this was worth a mention. I called several weeks to reserve a room for a gathering for an upcoming event in mid-April. Told them when I would like it and how many people would attend (12-15) and they gave me a time for the event. Everything sounded reasonable, so I booked the reservation. I called a few days before to confirm the reservation was still in place. Only to find out the reservation was erased off their calendar. First strike. Well, they put it back on the calendar once again and this time with a confirmation call on the day of the event. Day of the event, they did call to confirm the reservation, BUT they said due to fire code that 12 people were the maximum and that I was to have it in the main restaurant. Strike two. Keep in mind this was 6 hrs away from when it was supposed to happen. Then they suggested calling their partner restaurant where their private rooms were more accommodating to the number of people I needed. They suggested I call them. Didn't offer to do that for me. Strike three. Of course, the other restaurant was booked all night. By this point, I was completely frustrated. Had everything planned out and people coming and no place to have the event. The miracle of miracles, there was an alternate venue which was very accommodating and seated some people I needed. Well, I know I shouldn't have done this, but I tried calling to cancel. The phone rang 15 times with no answer or voicemail. Strike four. By now, I gave up. I'm sorry to say that they lost out on an event because the staff at this restaurant completely dropped the ball and a potential $500 night with tip (which the other restaurant did get). This place is probably my favorite place we have ate in a long time here in olympia. I ordered the Alaskan halibut and so did my husband. Mine was the lemon butter one and his was blackened. Both were cooked to perfection and I crave them to this day! The rice was amazing! It was a rice pilaf and I don't typically like that style. So many delicious flavors in our meal. My husband also ordered the crab chowder soup. Just wow! So creamy and yummy and again I don't like chowder Lastly, dessert! We got the pie trio and both of our favorite out of the chocolate, key lime and strawberry rhubarb was the strawberry rhubarb. The chocolate way way to sweet and the alcohol was too much in it. I gave 2 stars for wonderful waterfront atmosphere and service. Apparently that's what I paid for, because the food it self, was quite disappointing. So I ordered the steak with garlic shrimp which had a solid $30 price tag. As soon as the plate was put in front of me I was immediately unimpressed with the meager portion. The steak was cooked to order but barely sufficient...a small scoop of red potatoes...4 skinny little pieces of asparagus...and ONLY FOUR little, over cooked shrimp! Basically a whole lotta white on that plate where there could have been...I don't know, food? This is a bane of mine with restaurants in general that are not some over the top gourmet establishment that you would expect that from. I know portions aren't everything, but if someone paid that much for a meal in a non-gourmet restaurant, they should easily be able to leave satisfied...which I was obviously not. read more

Friendly and accommodating staff. Great view of the sound. If you are here simply for the experience of eating by the water, this is the place to come. Separately, if you value your money as most of us do, then you'd want to get the most for your money. The food is 'not bad' is my lasting impression. My wife and kids originally started our day at the Farmer's market and made the walk up here from the market. I suppose part of the disappointment is that, although the food is not bad it is not at all impressive. There is certainly lots of potential here but this place is not quite there yet. read more

This has been one of the worst meals I have had in a very long time The service was terrible and the food. From the time of our order to getting our food was an hour. In that hour our server didn't bother to check in with us and let us know an ETA on our meal. When we finally got our meal it was disappointing at best. I got a $15 Kobe beef burger that was the smallest burger I've ever seen. It was about the size of a slider burger. My fries were dry and cold. I will never return to this place. read more

There was a BIG OOPS the others night. We came in, hostess says "Can I help you?" Uh, how about asking if we are here for dinner or have reservations l? So we had to give our name and wait "5 minutes." Another couple followed us in. A few minutes later the young hostess seated the second couple before us! Hmmmm... As far as gluten-free options go: there aren't many at all on the menu. If you have a shellfish allergy and can't eat gluten you're out of luck. If you don't eat beef and don't eat gluten you're out of luck. If you really like their ling cod with the sour cream topping g you're out of luck if you're gluten-free. There is a chicken dish that's gluten-free, there's a pasta dish that's quite tasty that's gluten-free and they said they could make the steelhead gluten-free. Anthony's if you're listening I wish you would also make the lingcod gluten-free - surely you can figure out a way to make that dish without the gluten in it and have it just as tasty as the regular one on your menu. read more

We've enjoyed Hearthfire to in the past. Location is awesome, and food, and service are generally to Anthony's standards. Reserved a table outside on Open Table. Granted, a busy Mother's Day, but had to wait 15 minutes for our table, which wasn't outside, that would've been 15 more minutes. Staff was great, but drinks and food were slow to arrive. Got one of four orders wrong, and that took even longer to correct. Steak and shrimp, cod and chips, and cobb salad were good. Salmon cake and eggs was dry, and only one small cake. Overall a little disapointing for a Mother's Day... Maybe not staffed well enough? We'll give them another chance, hopefully they fix the small things. read more

I usually go to Hearth Fire with a friend for Lunch. Lovely views. You have to ask for the bread now, good to know. We haven't been for a little while, but this last visit was rather strange. I got the Cesar salad with shrimp (first time ordering that) and My friend got the rotisserie chicken Cobb salad (one of her usual favorites) she asked for no Blue cheese as she always does, and the basil vinegrette it comes with. It took so long to get our food, I genuinely started to wonder if our order got lost. When it came, I'll admit I was expecting bigger shrimp, perhaps seasoned or grilled but it was just shrimp meat, nothing extra done to it ....it was just ok. However her salad came with the blue cheese crumbles she didn't want AND a blue cheese dressing. Which the waitress admitted isn't listed on the menu description but supposedly always comes with the salad? That's not that big of a deal except She was visibly annoyed to have to fix it. Then Instead of getting the salad to the kitchen and fixed quickly, she chatted with the bartender...salad in hand. A salad with cold chicken (pretty dry and bland too I'm afraid) and no other prep except tossing it together. Seems like since it was an error on their part it should have been back out faster than that, especially since we had already waited so long to get our food the first time. Odd since nothing on our salads needed to be cooked. Took forever to get our bill too, I had to go ask for it. We might try again, hopefully it was a fluke. read more

Suggest servers to not be so pushy to take dinner order. A nice approach would have been to take a drink order, ask for app order, advise of dinner specials followed by then taking order. After we were seated, I went to the restroom. During that time, the server approached the table and asked my husband if we were ready to order. The minute I sat down, she came back to the table and asked if we were ready to order. We felt we were so rushed through the process. Our dinner came out after maybe 3 bites of our calamari order. Needless to say, we had to eat our entree first so our fish wouldn't get cold and then had our cold calamari for our dessert. I don't think this is reflective of Anthony's as we've dine at Pt Defiance many times. I think our server was an order taker and not really engaged in the overall customer experience. The bill was brought to the table before plates were removed. I'm guessing she was hired from a fast food establishment. I'm not looking for comp'd food or free meals. If I could give more stars I would! Atmosphere, staff, food - everything was perfect. This was our second time there and both visits were amazing. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had no wait for anything. We were seated, brought a spectacular warm, soft Flatbread. Delicious cocktails - I got the seasonal peach daiquiri and shortly after, I recieved the filet mignon and my date his snake river waygu steak. They were cooked to perfection. It is not typically for us to eat it all,but it was so delicious we couldn't help it! He finished the meal with the seasonal peach slump and I had the burnt creme - so good. It is fine dining, but comfortable. We were let in on the way their happy hour is EVERYDAY and definitely plan on making that a regular visit. read more

I was so disappointed with this restaurant I'm almost reluctant to write about it at all. It feels like I'm just being mean. My mother made reservations for myself, my stepfather and my grandfather at 4:30 in the afternoon. The woman on the phone assured her that reservations were not necessary. Nevertheless, when we were seated, we were placed far back from the gorgeous, massive windows that line the entire northern wall of the restaurant, a architectural move that fills almost all your vision with the Puget Sound. There were lots of tables open along the window, and we watched as, over the course of an hour and a half, most other people were seated in the front. Were we to have requested the window, despite the earlier assurance that reservations were not needed? Silly us, we didn't ask, but I'm not sure we'll be back anyway. Our server was young and nice and had no personality. All the servers ask if you want to start with an appetizer and then immediately interject, "Maybe some calamari?" I heard them do it over and over again, a tacky move for such an expensive steakhouse. It felt like being at the Outback and having a "Blooming Onion" shoved down your throat. My stepfather shrugged and said "Sure," while I suggested we also order the seared tenderloin strips. Hearthfire's crowning achievement might be their bread basket: buttery, garlicky, SALTY flatbread a lot like Indian naan was utterly addicting. The calamari was good if unspecial. The tenderloin strips, on the other hand, we dry dry dry. If any sear existed on them, it was washed off by a generous bowl of the marinade the strips came floating in. And while the marinade itself was unoffensive (a sort of lime-y soy sauce), nothing could explain why a small bowl of overcooked tenderloin pieces should cost $10. For a steakhouse, the selection was limited to about three different cuts of beef, one American Kobe cut and an American Kobe burger. The menu was rounded out with a few seafood selections, a chicken option and a rib plate. In a fit of contrariness, I decided at the last minute to order a salad. I don't know what came over me (I think the tenderloin strips frightened me). My salad, the "Baja," was terrible. Terrible. For $17 I was given a bowl of romaine lettuce heaped with tomatoes, roasted corn, a handful of those tasteless little salad shrimp that cost about $3 a pound and two large gulf shrimp sliced in half to appear to be four shrimp. The menu advertised the salad as being dressed with a "basil vinaigrette" and what it was absolutely saturated with was, in fact, some kind of spicy Thousand Island gunk. I haven't eaten that creamy pink stuff since I was a kid, and I didn't like it then, either. SEVENTEEN DOLLARS! My mother ordered the filet mignon with truffle and Gorgonzola butter. She ordered it medium rare. It arrived medium well. I asked her to tell the waitress because I watched another woman across from us cut into her steak and discover her requested medium was instead well-done. My mom declined, saying she just wanted to eat. The truffle and Gorgonzola butter was actually nicely-done, though she felt it could have used more than the chickpea-sized piece of Gorgonzola on top. I thought it was just enough to add a perfume to the meat. The massive heap of mashed potatoes were dull and oppressive. She also, like everyone else but myself, had a heap of steamed broccoli on the side apparently placed there just to look gray. My stepfather also decided not to get steak (a shock) and ordered the honey-glazed shrimp with pilaf. He enjoyed them. My grandfather had the ribs and shrimp plate, which had the same shrimp as my stepfather's meal. Though he also liked the shrimp, he said the ribs were overcooked (at least the Hearthfire is consistent) and the passionfruit BBQ sauce (which they call by the Hawaiian 'lilikoi' for no apparent thematic reason) was super-sweet. They wanted to order dessert, so we ordered the warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, the burnt cream (creme brulee), and the caramel sundae. The caramel sundae boasted a homemade caramel rum sauce which tasted like any other ice cream shop caramel. It was good and warm, though the large scoop of ice cream could have withstood some more of it. The burnt cream was lovely: perfectly burnt crust, smooth custard not overly sweet, and a nice portion. The chocolate cake, last and least, was coarse, and mysteriously dry despite being warm, described as "gooey" and covered with ice cream and chocolate sauce. There was a nice tempering flavor to it that could have been coffee, but we each had a hard time even getting a spoonful of the cake out of the dish without it crumbling off our utensils. My stepdad would eat a tire if you dipped it in chocolate, and he only ate about half of the cake before stopping. This is a very bad sign. Save your money. read more

Went on a sunny Saturday and were able to be seated on the deck, mostly with shade, with no reservation. Fantastic view. We just missed their lunch menu. We were there about 2hrs and watched other people on the deck get more and more red (ooh sunburn!). There was a large group of 3 families who had a bunch of kids that were playing at the door connecting to the restaurant and doing other general nonsense activities. Our group of 4 ordered 2 cobb salads, 1 steak, and 1 surf n turf. The funny thing is that when the salads were brought out, our server automatically gave them to both the girls (me and my friend). I was all: Thanks, but I ordered the STEAK. My friend (the other girl) did order salad though. The steak didn't seem to be the best cut (it was difficult to cut) and I splurged to get the extra 3oz. It was also overdone but I didn't feel like telling them. :| The green beans were a bit squiggly to cut and one flew off my plate when I was trying to be delicate and demure. The roasted potatoes were alright. The cobb salads looked pretty good, they were generous with the bleu cheese if you like that (I like that, but one guy did not). The surf n turf meal looked similar to my plate only with shrimp added, his steak was done right. In all, just an EH meal for the price. Service started to dip a bit and our server returned to ask if we wanted dessert. One of the guys said yes!..while the rest murmured noncommittally. When the dessert menus came out...they were given to us girls again! Seriously? Anyhow, we didn't order dessert. I probably won't come back here due to the cost and quality/taste of food. I went to Anthony's Hearthfire with my girlfriend for New Years Eve. The service was...adequate, but the food and quality of the food was not. Long story short, we both ordered steaks. My girlfriend received a charbroiled, blackened hockey puck and refused to eat her meal. I, on the other hand, enjoyed my steak, but did not appreciate the alternative meal I received from the one I actually ordered. I expected to receive a potato pancake and vegetables with my steak, but instead I receive "Jo Jo's" and a pile of snap peas, that I can only assume were frozen and reheated prior to serving. Being that I almost paid $100 for the experience, I would have liked the food to have been better and of higher quality. Unfortunately, because of the obvious lack of skilled chefs at this particular location, I will not be returning any time soon. read more

We made a reservation two days in advance for a booth that over looked the water. I was so excited to go out for a romantic evening and heard good things about this place. Got all dressed up , etc. At least I think it was this place. When we arrived they still made us wait for 30 minutes to seat us. Even though we checked in on time. And they knew we had made a reservation. While seating everyone else in the lobby first. Then took us to a table not a booth. It was loud and crowded. We couldn't chat at dinner. It was so loud with sound bouncing off the full length windows . And no booth to block it. I kept having to say " huh, what?" The waitress was awful. Mocking me and making an issue when I asked for non spicy prawns. Which on the plate were suprisingly few. And sure looked a lot like shrimp to me. The food sucked . The steak was not high quality for the price. And was not cooked to specifications. I asked for medium and it came back bleeding. My husband's who also ordered medium came back welldone, over cooked and the meat is grainy. Not ever going back . Especially not for these prices. Horribly disappointed . :/ We drove an hour each way to get there. :( read more

Come during summer - come for the view - come during happy hour - go somewhere else for dinner - come back for dessert. Hearthfire serves up some mean appetizers, and they do it rather cheaply during happy hour. Panko crusted portabello mushrooms and the spinach shrimp dip happen to be the two that I had most recently and enjoyed quite a bit. The dinner is pretty standard fare for an Anthony's, which is to say I don't go for it when I have to pay. The menu is pretty steak-heavy, but there are some red meat free gems as well. All said, the dinner is just too expensive for what you get. Dessert, however, oh my... Some Olympic Mountain (read: best kind of) Ice Cream, a gooey chocolate cake, and my precious, the Huckleberry Slump. As summer finally begins to arrive I suggest finding the time to take a seat on their porch, sip a cool drink, and sample some happy hour treats. read more

More of a 3.5 - I'm just rounding up because this is Olympia (slim pickin's 'round here, so I'm going "easy" on em). If I must go out in this town, Hearthfire is my go-to happy hour. The HH menu here has a decent selection of reasonably priced food and drinks. My favorites: - Seared beef tenderloin: One order just isn't enough. Almost every time I order this for the table, someone else orders another one afterwards. And don't overlook the slaw that comes in this dish - it soaks up all the sauces and flavors, and tastes delicious. - Blue cheese and hazelnut salad: This isn't on the HH menu, but it's a steal at $5 for such a generous portion. Blue cheese and hazelnuts just taste amazing together. Period. - The other crowd pleasers are the tempura portobello mushrooms, crispy calamari and baked crab/shrimp/artichoke dip. - Fave HH cocktails are the Ruby Tonic and the St. Germaine cocktail, I forget what it's called. I'm a sucker for anything with St. Germaine though. Entrees here haven't wow'd me so I'm quite happy to stick with their appetizers. The happy hour crowd here is a generally mature crowd in my experience (30+). Not a lot of youngins or Oly hipsters around, which is one of the main reasons I come here. The service is friendly and attentive, and the waterfront view is really nice. This place probably has my fave outdoor dining patio for those warm sunny summer days. Indoor seating is nice too with floor to ceiling windows, making Hearthfire a beautiful spot to watch the sunset colors paint the sky. read more
