I came for dinner around 8:30. I stood waiting at the check in to be seated for 10 minutes without anyone asking if i was helped. Wait people walking around, simply doing their jobs, not willing to be helpful otherwise. So, i decided to head to the bar. I told the bartender that i am done waiting for the table and asked for dinner menu. Here, i waited again while bartenders chatting with one another, instead of tending to customer, one customer: me. I've been to this Anthony's Hearthfire and the Anthony's Homeport (next to my business -- I've had office parties there) a number of times. Saturday, I walked in with my wife and asked the two young host-people for a table for two. They said there would be up to a ten minute wait. The restaurant was half full. Fifteen minutes later a woman who exuded bad attitude led us to a seat along the wall of water-view windows. There was a large blind pulled down that blocked the view. I politely asked if she could raise the blind so that we could see the water. She said no. It was the only blind pulled down in the restaurant. I then asked if we could get one of the two empty, adjacent tables that actually had a view of the water. She acted like she was doing us a big favor by allowing us to move. After a few minutes a waitress came to the table to drop off our menus, took our drink order -- wine for my wife and a Coke for me, rushed back by to drop off the drinks and said she would be right back for our food order. We had already studied the small menu, and I wanted the Wagyu steak salad and my wife wanted the shrimp and artichoke toast. I could have relayed that to her in one minute. Anyway, I watched her flash over to the next table that had just sat down to take their drink and food order, go to another table to get more drinks and bring them back, and then to an outside table that had just sat down to take and bring their drink order. And then she disappeared - who knows where. All the time, I was watching a woman at the bus station just standing around and occasionally flipping her ponytail. Nothing to do. After twenty minutes of not having anybody come to the table, we stood up, left the drinks, I threw a twenty on the table, and we left. The host-people were still both standing at their station just chatting away. Nothing to do. I don't recall every walking out of a restaurant. After that, it just kind of spoiled the afternoon. I'm not being petty here. The service was terrible. My wife is the type of person who is overly polite and would never offend anybody. But, she was the one who suggested we leave. The food is great, but be prepared for the wait times. It took the bartender 10 minutes to even greet us. We got the three course meal and from the time we ordered it took 30 minutes to receive the starter. It then took another 30 minutes to receive the entree. The dessert took just as long, and before we even received it we were ready to leave. This experience has happened to us on multiple occasions. I think a big issue here is the bartender is the only one in the bar. They are taking tables and making drinks for their tables and the restaurant on a busy night. They clearly need a server in the bar other than having the expo and bussers do everything for the bartender which did more work for our table than the bartender. The amount of money this restaurant is for a meal I believe should have better service. read more

Dinner service took 3 hours, waited 10 minutes at reception until any staff member came out from wherever they were hiding... another 10 minutes until the waiter came out with a bill... never inquired about the service or food or drinks or generally anything... 4 people $350 and zero service.. attitude was awful in the restaurant, like the blind leading the blind after they have given up... the scenery is spectacular the landscaping picture worthy... but the food was partially inedible dry and needed to be washed down with water that disappeared 30 minutes earlier or over creamed sauce that was reminiscent of the 80's casserole your mum made.. the menu is tired, limited and just outdated... if you feel like a time warp to the 80's it's great but don't go for the food or service... and to top things off an employee having the pick of the parking lot (clearly others know the situation) parked so close, as skinny as I am couldn't squeeze between the cars and found myself crawling through the back over seats in a short skirt... Came in on a week night for happy hour and dinner and had an excellent experience. Our server was top notch; knowledgeable, friendly, attentive. Everything was delicious. I had a couple lemon drops, which were on point. For my main I went with the beef tenderloin of the happy hour menu, tender and full of flavor. I normally write my reviews while I'm still sitting in the restaurant. This time is different though as I've been meaning to do so and it's taken me over a week to get around to it. However I can't get over how good that steak was. It was the best rib steak I've ever eaten. Cooked exactly as I ordered it, medium. The flavor was fantastic. It was very tender. The presentation was good (I've seen better presentation, by a little, but not a better tasting steak). Everybody else in our party enjoyed there meal very much. My Dad had Halibut and loved it. My five-year-old had grilled cheese (special request) and she ate all of it. Nobody had anything but compliments for the food. The service was probably a 3 or 4 out of 5. The ambiance is at least a 4, if not a little better. The food was really good, and that is the single most important criteria for judging a meal in my book. If you're complaining about the prices, I don't know of many fine dining places on the water with good food that don't charge in the same price range. Did I mention that was one amazing steak? I know I did, but seriously this was delicious. I've had one steak that gave this a run for it's money, it was a filet mignon I had in Reno once at a very nice place. It was substantially more expensive. It was a bit more tender, although I don't think it had better flavor. My only regret is that I live almost 900 miles South. read more

We loved this place! My sister and I share the same birthday (January 2nd), and we celebrate it together whenever we can. This year, at her suggestion, we decided to go to Anthony's Hearthfire Grill and it was fantastic! The views were amazing and offered some great wildlife entertainment. From our table by the window, we could see several jellyfish softly floating by as well as a few ducks zipping down beneath the surface diving for fish. Every one of the entrees we had was amazing. From their signature crab stew to the chocolate mousse, each was perfectly prepared. But what really brought it altogether and made for a wonderful experience, was our server Matt C. His welcoming warm smile and friendly attitude got us settled in instantly. Throughout the meal, our group of 5 had several questions and requests that he entertained without missing a beat while also maintaining his easygoing nature. If you ask me, our group is pretty high maintenance, and we have had some less-than-receptive servers in the past because of it at other restaurants. But not here and not this time. My husband and I are friends with many successful chefs and it was one of their birthdays so We decided to take them here! We all ordered off the 4 course dinner special menu. Birthday boy didn't even receive his appetizer, w o w... The kitchen is open concept, so we walked over and took a sneak peek. Looks like the cooks never clean up after themselves, dirty counters and no gloves on some. I ordered one of the prawns entre dish. I had to return the dish because the shrimp was WAAAAAY over cooked. They brought me a second dish that was over cooked once again.. I decided to not even eat it...The only thing I enjoyed out of this whole experience was the KEYLIME pie cup and the tempura portobellos....Never going back! Reevaluate your line-cooks! Generally I don't have a bad experience here: the Service, the food and location are always exceptionally good. Today however when I came to enjoy lunch with my husband and our grandson I felt the service could have been better. I must admit when I ordered the Wagyu burger I didn't realize it came with a tomato sauce; the menu did not have it listed as such. So when Krystal W came to the table I asked about it and she asked if I needed to have it reordered I said please. After a good while I asked another server if he wouldn't mind refilling our drink, provide a napkin, check on my meal and order dessert he agreed. Let's just say the rest of the time was not good. I had to ask for the dirty dishes to be picked twice. I really hope this is the last bad experience I will have there. Not really sure what happened. read more

We arrived and we were waiting for the hostess to acknowledges us for about 5 minutes, the restaurant was at 10% occupancy at best and took another 2-3 minutes to find our reservation (OpenTable) and direct us to our table, when we left there were 2 parties waiting and the hostess nowhere to be seen. This is not Anthony 's food or menu, options are limited and mostly sandwiches or starters, food was ok but our waitress- Stephanie - was less than helpful, forgot to mention what was not available and when came to take our order was "we don't have that" and was rushing us to pick an alternative, at any moment she intended to offer a suggestion or help us decide. Later at dessert, she brought the menu but simply ignored us for about 10 minutes even though she walked by us several times, and was more interested in chitchatting with other staff. The restaurant setting and view of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains is spectacular but that's about the only upside. Skip this and save yourself a bad meal experience. Aside from that, I was actually surprised with the food and drinks here. My BFF took me here for HH since appetizers ran around $5-$5.50. I didn't expect much due to my previous HH experience at Anthony's. We ordered the spicy chicken wings (love the sauce!) and the steak tacos, which were practically stuffed and so juicy. I tried some of my BFF's order of the flat bread that I tasted a hint of garlic in. It was good but I think if we ordered a sauce or dip for it, it would be even better. HH drinks were balanced, not too strong or weak. I had two of the Ruby reds and a glass of wine, which i enjoyed. HH cocktails run at $5.50 while beer and wine was $5. read more

Miss A and I came for lunch on a Friday. Yes, I will say being from smoggy LA, the view was beautiful. It was like the sun came out for me. Just for a minute. Probably nice for a date. I got a seasonal salad with huckleberries, spinach and chanterelles. What a nice unexpected mix of textures. I got a salmon cake and I tasted some of Miss A's ahi. We didn't have a reservation but we're sat with a beautiful view in less than 5 minutes. The bread here is a real winner and the spiked lemonades (I got raspberry) could get me in trouble, SO YUMMY! My hubby and I both ordered steaks and were not disappointed, they were expertly cooked and the baked potato was so simple but perfect! We finished it off with the creme brûlée, it's a MUST get dish. When I asked for a roomier table, I was told they could move us to a booth with a chair at the end (how is that better?), or seat us on the patio (too chilly for that). AND, we were told the manager said they really don't have tables for 5 - funny, we were here at Christmas with 5 and were seated at a round table that sat 5 great. Once we were seated we were rushed through our meal. It doesn't mean much when the waiter drops the check and says "no hurry" when more than one person at the table is still eating. read more

My friend, a veteran of the area, suggested this place for an early dinner. The venue is airy and well decorated. BIG windows line a little over half of the walls, which brings in lots of natural light and provides an amazing view of the water no matter where you sit in the restaurant. Still, I always want the window seat, so I ask for it. Don't let the gray skies in my picture fool you. It's gorgeous. The steak taco is amazing. My first reaction when I saw the menu was, "you only get one?" But one is more than enough when paired with fire-roasted tomato basil soup and fries. I don't like the combination of the soup and the taco together, but they are really good individually. The taco is a mixture of flavors and textures: big chunks of juicy, tender steak; crunchiness from the cabbage; and the creaminess of the avocado-based sauce. I'm getting hungry now as I write about it. The soup is creamy but has texture. I'm not usually a big fan of tomato soup, but I like this one. And their beers: great selection. Not only is the food good, but also their bathroom is complete with toilet seat warmers! It took me by surprise, at first, but heated toilet seats? Genius. It's as lovely for the tush as heated tile floors are for the feet. I had to share this new discovery with my friend. You have to try it, I tell her. It's genius. lol. By the end, we realized that we needed to jet set out of there to make it a movie. We let our waiter know and he got the check to us quick. Real quick. This place has very large windows that wrap around the restaurant. My favorite part about eating at this place was the environment. Definitely a place you have to check out if you've never been here before. Quality of food: Pretty good. It's not super fancy. It's a step up from your standard American grill place. The view was nice, although the windows were littered with bird droppings and hand prints. The food left something to be desired. The shrimp and artichoke dip was tasty. I recommend it. The top sirloin was hardly edible. A large tendon through the meat. I took two bites, and had to chew no less than 80 times per piece to get the meat while disposing of the rest of my bite in a napkin I grabbed from the bathroom. The potatoes with the sirloin had a nice flavor to them. The prawns tasted like the were cooked in dirty water. The roasted pear martini was ok. Nothing spectacular for a $10 cocktail. Cinnamon rim was nice, but the cocktail itself was reminiscent of an unsweetened applesauce. While supposedly mixed with a Riesling, I expected this to be sweeter. The green beans were nice. Crisp and flavorful. The ribs were tasty also. They had a nice smoky flavor to them. The bbq sauce complimented the meat well. The chicken was a bit bland. All of the flavor is on the skin, the meat itself needed seasoning. The mash potatoes and gravy was sub par, especially in comparison to the flavorful roasted potatoes with the steak. The man n cheese felt like a prepackaged grocery store pick up ( in fairness this is not a typical menu item, this was a requested side). The menu offers a prosciutto Mac n cheese with panko bread crumbs. We requested this in addition to the chicken dinner. We were told by the wait staff she was uncertain if they could do that as a side and if not, we said we would take the entree. The kitchen sent just the Mac n cheese with no prosciutto or breadcrumbs, so I can't speak to what that actually tastes like. I wish they would have just sent it out as we requested, since we had agreed to pay for another entree if a side wasn't doable. The way it was served could be good for a kid, especially at the cost of $5. I am not one to send things back to the kitchen, so we just ate what we could of our meals and went about our evening, electing to pass on the dessert so not to be further disappointed. I have ate here in the past and enjoyed the food. Maybe today was an off day, and it wasn't horrible, just not good. I felt I could have a much better special occasion dinner someplace else. On a lighter note, I did enjoy the throw back 80s music playing in the background. read more

Had to ask every time to get water filled, when they brought out the bread they said there's more if you need it, we'll we never got more and even asked a waiter walking by and she said she would pass the word to our waitress never got bread. Finally our food came out they asked if we needed anything else so I asked again more bread please, was half way threw my meal before we got it. The atmosphere is probably the best part, you're right on the water along with a very elegant feel to the whole restaurant. Compared to places i have been in Ca, Nd, Minneapolis, Colorado, and Washington. This place is decent and I think the prices can be high because of the Ocean view. We went on Valentines day... I had the Seasonal Salad, A drink With Coconut & lime or something a speciality drink, and Lobster & steak (both Small!!!) with mashed potatoes and sweet potato fries. My husband liked my Salad and ate it for me. It wasn't bad it just didn't like the dressing but they don't have Ranch at this restaurant so I was trying something new. It wasn't nasty but just not something I liked. The best meal was my husbands Mushroom appetizer. Myself and 6 others just took Mom who turned 91 to Anthony Hearthfire yesterday and the food and service was excellent. I had the Cod , others had the grilled shrimp and the steak. What a beautiful place along the waterways of Olympia . Everyone in the group raved about how fresh and tasty the food was. The shrimp cocktails were also very fresh. Nestled on the water's edge of downtown Olympia sits this picturesque dining establishment. The open floor plan makes you feel like you've just walked into a rustic mountain cabin that happens to serve food. Such a great ambiance. The food is amazing. We had the tuna appetizer which was a little sweet for me BUT it was a natural sweetness with the mango. So good. We showed up here the Friday following the Impeachment farce and observed lots of older folks dressed in red celebrating. It was a bit surreal for us for a variety of reasons considering it was our first time at AHG... We've been to the other Anthony's many times. The bartender servers were very upset because they were 'slammed'. We weren't too upset though, because as we sat waiting (for about half hour; bear in mind we hadn't made a reservation), they served us drinks in the waiting area!! Our son was with us, so we were super appreciative of this, as we couldn't wait in the bar. Super awesome people watching!!! The host staff did their best to accommodate us quickly. Their situation up front was organized and gracious. We observed servers hustling fast. The whole vibe suggested accommodation. We felt a bit like we were on vacation (happily!) There were others in the waiting area and we chatted cheerfully with them (nice folks). We were the only ones who hadn't made a reservation. Now we know better:-) The food and drinks were delicious! Our son was happy. Our server was great! It had been a hard week but our experience at AHG washed away all of that. They make great martinis. We're definitely coming back. All people of Oly should give this restaurant a try. The staff are very welcoming and the food is well prepared. You can even watch the chef(s) in action, should you so choose...
