I had been looking forward to trying this place for a while with my family but we all left a little disappointed. The restaurant is nice and dimly lit with plenty of seating, but you will have to find street parking around Glenwood. We were a party of 6 and they pulled together tables to accommodate us. Our server was a little slow but still friendly. For starters we got a Margherita pizza, calamari, the grilled caesar, and they brought us a complimentary bread basket with oil. Everything except the caesar was good. I guess we didn't expect the caesar to taste THAT charred and the lettuce to not be chopped. For main entrees, we ordered lasagna, lobster ravioli, penne alla vodka, and alfredo. The vodka pasta and lasagna were unflavored and disliked among the table. I would not recommend those dishes. What a disappointment. I had been looking forward to a night out at Anthony's La Piazza for months. We finally lined up a babysitter, drove 30 minutes downtown, paid $10 to park, and arrived right on time for our 7:00 PM reservation -- only to be told it would be at least a 30-minute wait. I understand things happen, but what made it worse was standing by the front door for over 30 minutes without seeing anyone seated. There were empty tables in plain sight the entire time. The hostess had no updates when I asked, and there was no explanation or apology. It felt disorganized and, honestly, like no one was in control or concerned about managing expectations. After waiting more than 40 minutes with no end in sight, we decided to leave. By that point, even if we had been seated, the experience was already soured. A rare date night shouldn't feel like you're just standing around hoping someone eventually notices you. Unfortunately, I won't risk going back, which is a real letdown. read more

I've been wanting to stop by here for a few months now, a few weeks ago a came in 10 minutes before closing for a drink but they said they had stopped service, totally understandable. Fast forward, to this past weekend and I was the first in. First I'll comment on the smell, it was that old rag smell mixed with cleaning products. I sat at the bar and the bartender that was smoking outside rushed in to greet me. The cigarette smoked lingered right on him. We had Easter Sunday dinner there this year. It was a family of three. The food was absolutely delicious!! We had fried calamari which was extremely fresh & homemade meatballs which were so light & tasteful. Presentation of our entrees was beautiful & also they were delicious!! The ambiance of the restaurant is industrial look with a classy feel to it. Our waiter (I believe his name was Alex) was very pleasant & very on top of things...always coming to check if we needed anything. I enjoyed the Salmon Spinach Salad this visit, and viewed the menu choices for future visits. The salad was delicious. Excellent grilled flavor for the salmon. I loved that's not heavily seasoned or covered in Sauces. The other ingredients we're spot on as well, fresh! From the citrus slices to the tomatoes. A beautiful salad. The owner of the restaurant chose to try and dispute my subjective opinion of his restaurant, without taking ownership of his lack of leadership and organization. He did this to many other individuals who left a 1 star review due to his poor management on Valentine's Day. Sadly, he did exactly what business owners should not do and blamed the customer rather than take accountability. He stated that the restaurant had "a few hiccups" that is an understatement. During our two hours wait we saw 3 other couples get up and leave. Our waiter stated that "everything was a mess" but never came to check on us or inform us what was happening. Furthermore, he said that he only had 4 bad reviews out of 400 tables. I find that hard to believe. He only had 4 tables that felt the need to leave a review. I guarantee that there are more people than 4 that will never go back. Additionally, he said that my wife and I were rude to his waitstaff, which is a bold face lie! We did not even speak to the waitstaff enough to give them an impression of us. He says he's a nice guy, but sadly his conduct shows that he is not a nice guy. I do not care what ethnicity you are "manners are manners" and this guy has none. I will make it my mission to let anyone I meet to avoid the restaurant at all costs. ORIGINAL REVIEW My wife and I chose this restaurant for Valentine's Day and it was a huge mistake. We arrived for our 8pm reservation and had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. After being seated, without a drink menu, we waited another 20 minutes to get a drink menu and finally ordered drinks. We received our drinks and then waited another 15-20 minutes for bread. At that point we ordered an appetizer and our food and then waited for over an hour and half before choosing to leave because the wait was ridiculous. Amazing food with excellent service! Started off with a glass of Chianti, excellent! For dinner we had the Pappardelle Bolognese, Rigatoni Alla Vodka, and Chicken Saltimboca. All three were great, but the Rigatoni was my favorite with a close tie for the chicken. We ended the night with Cheesecake, which was ok, and would not get again. Overall, the food and service were 5 stars. The ambience was a little mixed for me, fancy, but with a giant TV in the dining room. The prices were a little high, plus they charge 4% to use a credit card in a time when almost everywhere is cashless. We were traveling all day and returned to Raleigh and decided we wanted pizza. We found Anthony's on Yelp and decided to stop in. We almost didn't come because it is in a hotel and we didn't want a "hotel restaurant," but this is really independent from the hotel and just a nice restaurant. We got pizza and a grilled Caesar Salad and both were great! Best pizza we have had in a while. MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE IN DOWNTOWN RALEIGH!!! This place has a desirable vibe inside & outside (on the patio). Great view of Glenwood Ave as well. Nighttime is laidback, they offer tables and chairs outside. You can eat &/or sip outside while enjoying the night breeze or admiring the nightlife. So far I have tried the fried mozzarella, chicken Marsala, chicken Alfredo, and a few "adult" beverages. All were very tasty. I have to try the pizza next. Dining inside is really nice with plenty of bar seating & TVs. They have table seating with a window view. The atmosphere is very chill, relaxing. Great after work place too. The pizza was very thin very large slice of flavorful pepperoni pizza. For takeout, I chose the pappardelle bolognese. The Mister and I popped in early for dinner- about 5:15pm. While we came in for the pizza, the delicious sounding entrees changed our minds! Things were quiet, as we enjoyed our wine selection and delicate lightly breaded calamari. The bread brought to the table with olive oil for dipping was truly delicious as well. The timing of our entree arrival was perfect- as we ordered the chicken saltimbocca, and linguini with white clam sauce. It was hot, fresh, and clearly crafted with love! My clam sauce was overflowing with clams- and was the best I have had in the city of Raleigh! Seriously, SO many clams! I don't even make it at home with this many clams- it was inspirational! The hub's chicken saltimbocca was deliciously tender, had the perfect amount of fresh spinach and prosciutto and the flavor profile was as amazing as if I had gone to NY! Of note, it was enough for two meals! We finished our meal with by sharing dessert of chocolate fudge cake. Although it was also delicious, it was clearly the only thing we had that was not scratch made. Our waiter was clearly a New Yorker, and was on top of the service- he was excellent. Although the restaurant ambiance was nice- on the evening we went we saw lots of darling teenagers in their prom attire- so I don't feel comfortable commenting on the typical ambiance of an every day at this restaurant. Initial first impressions of this place were not great, there are these weird cheap looking lights on the windows, and there is a horrible sewage smell as you walk in the building (according to the people at the restaurant it is due to the grease trap being placed in a bad spot). We came around 7:00 and already the place was pretty much cleared out, there was just one other couple in the dining area. They said they were out of bread, not sure how an Italian restaurant runs out of bread? But one of my favorite things about Italian restaurants is being able to use the bread to scrape up all the leftover sauce. So that was pretty disappointing. I ordered the lasagna. Usually lasagna is thick, several layers deep, their lasagna is the opposite, it's only about an inch tall but I think they do this to make it look like a larger portion because it takes up more space on the plate? I don't know, was just weird. The waitress asked if we wanted freshly grated Parmesan cheese, I said of course, she comes back and says they ran out of block cheese, again how does an Italian restaurant run out of Parmesan cheese?? When entering, we were greeted by the host, who was friendly. For a Saturday night (perhaps still a young night), it was not that busy so we were quickly seated. Our waiter, Charlie, was extremely personable and friendly, patient and provided great recommendations. You get complimentary focaccia, and oil with herbs and balsamic for dipping -- All which were great for a start. The appetizer we chose were the stuffed mushrooms, which were really good. Presume, stuffed with a sausage-filling, which I actually typically dislike sausage but honestly, it was really delicious. I will say the serving size was fairly small for the price we paid. Our entrees were the chicken parmigiana and the rigatoni alla vodka. The chicken parmigiana was simple and good. It came with two chicken breasts, which was extremely filling. The rigatoni alla vodka was also simple and good. Charlie recommended with burrata on top and it was a solid recommendation. We were filled immediately with plenty of leftovers to take home. Split a tiramisu amongst us two, and it was as solid as a tiramisu can get! Great coffee taste, but not overwhelming. Ambiance was nice, since it wasn't too occupied, it wasn't super loud and distracting, and indoor music wasn't extremely loud either, honestly perfect volume. Lighting was dark, moody, and just an overall vibe. Overall, I give it a 3 just because it wasn't anything out of the ordinary and we personally, weren't blown out of the water with it. My girlfriend and I went to Anthony's on Saturday around 4pm and had the best experience! We started with the grilled Caesar salad and calamari. I love a good Caesar salad and good calamari so I was incredibly impressed with both of these. The Caesar salad was perfectly grilled but not awkwardly warm. Flavorful and smoky, so delicious and fresh. The Calamari was amazing. A big portion and huge rings, yet so flavorful, the perfect amount of fried. The fact that the rings were large and portion was big and took away nothing from the quality was impressive. I am pretty sure this was one of the best calamari dishes I've had, if not the best! We then ordered two pizzas and a pasta to share and take home. A Cheese Pizza, Margherita Pizza, and Pasta Carbonara. I'm not quite sure where to begin. Both pizzas were so delicious; fresh and hot. Everything about them was great; sauce, cheese, and dough. It's hard to describe, but it was almost a wood fired plus NYC style at the same time. I can't wait to have it again (tomorrow, due to my leftovers). The Pasta Carbonara was also delicious! I made a last-minute reservation at Anthony's for a group of six, and it turned out to be a great choice! We arrived early and took advantage of their half-off martini special--our bartender made sure we got our money's worth. Our server, Ty, was fantastic. He was funny, attentive, and made us feel right at home with his excellent hospitality. We started with mozzarella sticks and mussels in white wine sauce for appetizers. Both were delicious, and even the bread was impressive! While it took about 45 minutes for our entrées to arrive--longer than we'd hoped--the wait was absolutely worth it. I ordered the ribeye with butter sauce, and it was phenomenal. Even the arugula salad that came with it was tasty, and the presentation was top-notch--it gave off some serious Miami vibes! One of my friends ordered the salmon, which they found a bit bland, but overall, the experience was great. The drinks, food, and service were all on point. We'll definitely be back! read more
