I've been wanting to stop by here for a few months now, a few weeks ago a came in 10 minutes before closing for a drink but they said they had stopped service, totally understandable. Fast forward, to this past weekend and I was the first in. First I'll comment on the smell, it was that old rag smell mixed with cleaning products. I sat at the bar and the bartender that was smoking outside rushed in to greet me. The cigarette smoked lingered right on him. I ordered the fried mozzarella, they were good, breading was seasoned and a nice pull on the cheese. The carbonara was okay, the peas were a little hard but the sauce and pancetta were solid. A good pour on the Pinot Grigio.

Been meaning to try this location since we were frequent visitors to their former Benson location and other JoCo locations. Love the upscale ambience of this one. Anthony knows his stuff, so glad to see his continued success Their housemade foccacia bread is as amazing as I remembered. I enjoyed the Salmon Spinach Salad this visit, and viewed the menu choices for future visits. The salad was delicious. Excellent grilled flavor for the salmon. I loved that's not heavily seasoned or covered in Sauces. The other ingredients we're spot on as well, fresh! From the citrus slices to the tomatoes. A beautiful salad. Try this place, you won't be disappointed. Yeah, parking may be an issue at times, but choose your visit accordingly. This sunny Sunday afternoon was perfect. Chef's kiss!

I love a GOOODTTTTT Carbonara! I was pleasantly surprised with this dish as I have never had it with the egg yolk on top of the piping hot noodles which made it so much more creamy, silky and rich! The salty bite of the pancetta was perfect. Should have gotten a second order!

Ordered 6 dishes , none of them came out correct besides one. I asked for vodka sauce, they gave me marinara sauce and wanted it switched. They scraped the sauce off and added vodka sauce to it but you could tell. I don't care but the restaurant is too expensive to get order messed up and not get it remade the right way. 4 dishes were supposed to come with vodka sauce but they gave marinara.

It was extremely hard for me to find parking near this restaurant. I drove around for a while before finding street parking down the street. Once inside, I observed that the restaurant had a nice ambience and was spacious. We were seated right away. All of the staff that I engaged with were kind. Our server, Alex, was very personable. The bread and oil that we were given was good. The rigatoni was fresh, hot, and I got a nice portion size. I just felt like something was missing from it. My food was filling.

Where do I begin. We went here on a Saturday evening and sat at the bar. The owner, Anthony came over to say, "Hello" after our first drink. First of all if you are going to advertise as a top Italian restaurant, you should dress as such. Especially for an owner. Anthony had on jeans, a t shirt, and a black baseball cap. He asked if we wanted another round. He then said ," I don't have Tito's vodka" after we just had a drink of Tito's. Then he said ," Oh, I see it !" Strange We had conversation about where we were all from and started talking about food. Anthony commented that "The people down here don't know good Italian food " We ordered the stuffed mushrooms which were a very good, actually Then we ordered the Veal Scallopini The menu distinctively says Veal, spinach, roasted red peppers mozzarella cheese in a Marina sauce. The picture posted here is what we were served Completely different than the menus description We told, Anthony that it wasn't what was on the menu He came and took the menu out of my hand and said, "Yes it is. Yes it is. It's the same thing. It's a misprint on my menus and I was just having corporate change them " Firstly, if your a privately owned so called ,"Mom and Pop " restaurant you don't t deal with corporate. Corporate of what ? A restaurant ? Also, you don't lie to patrons and tell them it's the same meal or close to it The cheese was by far poor quality mozzarella There was no hardly any spinach and the sauce was a think flour like consistency with not a touch of wine flavoring We told him he should tell his employees when a customer asks for that item they should know it's not what they are getting He then embarrassed the bartender and said , "He don't know food !" You NEVER criticize your employees Let alone in front of customers. We told him he should comp the meal. And he did. As we were leaving he said ," Give me another chance. I swear it was corporate and I was JUST going to change the menus" He proceeded to say, "What are you gonna do ? Give me a two star review. Go ahead. I don't care" We were planning on coming to his restaurant for a while. And his menu NEVER changed. It was and is the same one online. As we walked out the door he said, "Go back to New York !" I have never been in a restaurant where an owner argues and lies right to a customers face Normally, the right thing to do is say, "Your right. I'm sorry. How can I make it better?" People who run an establishment like this with this kind of attitude really need to learn customer service Because I am a foodie and reviews are what I do So you never know who your serving Needless to say we won't be back ! P. S. Patrons, read the owners answer. Obviously he not only lacks customer service, his grammar shown here is the exact unprofessionalism he has.

Amazing food with excellent service! Started off with a glass of Chianti, excellent! For dinner we had the Pappardelle Bolognese, Rigatoni Alla Vodka, and Chicken Saltimboca. All three were great, but the Rigatoni was my favorite with a close tie for the chicken. We ended the night with Cheesecake, which was ok, and would not get again. Overall, the food and service were 5 stars. The ambience was a little mixed for me, fancy, but with a giant TV in the dining room. The prices were a little high, plus they charge 4% to use a credit card in a time when almost everywhere is cashless. Even with those few drawbacks, I highly recommend for some of the best Italian food outside of Italy!

READ THIS BEFORE DINING! Edit: So I chose to leave an honest and straight forward review of Anthony's la Piazza Prime on Google ( See below). The owner of the restaurant chose to try and dispute my subjective opinion of his restaurant, without taking ownership of his lack of leadership and organization. He did this to many other individuals who left a 1 star review due to his poor management on Valentine's Day. Sadly, he did exactly what business owners should not do and blamed the customer rather than take accountability. He stated that the restaurant had "a few hiccups" that is an understatement. During our two hours wait we saw 3 other couples get up and leave. Our waiter stated that "everything was a mess" but never came to check on us or inform us what was happening. Furthermore, he said that he only had 4 bad reviews out of 400 tables. I find that hard to believe. He only had 4 tables that felt the need to leave a review. I guarantee that there are more people than 4 that will never go back. Additionally, he said that my wife and I were rude to his waitstaff, which is a bold face lie! We did not even speak to the waitstaff enough to give them an impression of us. He says he's a nice guy, but sadly his conduct shows that he is not a nice guy. I do not care what ethnicity you are "manners are manners" and this guy has none. I will make it my mission to let anyone I meet to avoid the restaurant at all costs. ORIGINAL REVIEW My wife and I chose this restaurant for Valentine's Day and it was a huge mistake. We arrived for our 8pm reservation and had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. After being seated, without a drink menu, we waited another 20 minutes to get a drink menu and finally ordered drinks. We received our drinks and then waited another 15-20 minutes for bread. At that point we ordered an appetizer and our food and then waited for over an hour and half before choosing to leave because the wait was ridiculous. I was hoping to leave a good review but sadly I cannot. It's frustrating that on Valentine's Day a restaurant cannot handle the rush to be expected by the holiday. We will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to anyone we know. We will tell people to avoid it.

MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE IN DOWNTOWN RALEIGH!!! This place has a desirable vibe inside & outside (on the patio). Great view of Glenwood Ave as well. Nighttime is laidback, they offer tables and chairs outside. You can eat &/or sip outside while enjoying the night breeze or admiring the nightlife. So far I have tried the fried mozzarella, chicken Marsala, chicken Alfredo, and a few "adult" beverages. All were very tasty. I have to try the pizza next. Dining inside is really nice with plenty of bar seating & TVs. They have table seating with a window view. The atmosphere is very chill, relaxing. Great after work place too. The staff is very attentive & friendly. Ty was our server each time. I can't remember one of the bartender's name, but she has really cool tattoos & a great personality. I met the owner last weekend; really cool dude. Down to earth. If you're downtown and want good food, this is the place for you. During the weekends, you may want to make reservations.

New Italian restaurant in Raleigh offering thin crust pizza and house-made pasta. They use quality ingredients and the food comes out surprisingly quick. Plus to make it even better, the meal starts with complimentary bread and olive oil dip! The restaurant is easy to locate off Glenwood. The inside is bright and spacious. I parked on the street right out front and paid ~$1.50 for parking via the Passport app. I dined in and also placed an order to-go. The pizza was very thin very large slice of flavorful pepperoni pizza. For takeout, I chose the pappardelle bolognese. It tasted great and was made with house-made pasta, however seemed very pricy at $24.96 plus $6.50 to add chicken (and there wasn't much chicken). The waitress was welcoming and attentive. Overall, a positive experience and I recommend this restaurant to others!

What a great location! On the first floor of the AC Hotel, we loved the street view from the bar. Our zucchini sticks were perfectly fried and the serving was generous. Pizza and pasta were really good as well. Our server was enthusiastic and happy to make recommendations- we tried the house red blend wine and beer from Crankshaft - both great choices. My girlfriend and I went to Anthony's on Saturday around 4pm and had the best experience! I wanted to take her to dinner for her birthday and this is the spot she recommended and BOY am I glad we found it! There are so many special and great things about it, so let's get into it! The ambience and atmosphere; this was absolutely five stars. Relaxing, casual, and fun. Very clean all around and hip, but nothing overwhelming. We did get there around 4pm, there was almost nobody there and we thought it was closed; how is there nobody there!? This place is so amazing: food, service, vibes. All of it. We sat at the bar and Ty was our server/bartender. He was stellar, and beyond! Attentive, fun, and absolutely a Yankee, like myself. I also noticed that the menu stated "Staten Island" Style. WHAT? I am from Staten Island and have never seen that in NC. Amazing. I will be transparent, at first I was a little thrown off by the pricing, but I will pay a bit more money for quality and delicious food any single day, and I promise it didn't disappoint, none of it. He brought us waters and I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc; he let me try it first and I enjoyed it. The drink menu is decent, not incredibly extensive but enough of a list for wine, beer, and cocktail goers. On to the food. The food was amazing. We started with the grilled Caesar salad and calamari. I love a good Caesar salad and good calamari so I was incredibly impressed with both of these. The Caesar salad was perfectly grilled but not awkwardly warm. Flavorful and smoky, so delicious and fresh. The Calamari was amazing. A big portion and huge rings, yet so flavorful, the perfect amount of fried. The fact that the rings were large and portion was big and took away nothing from the quality was impressive. I am pretty sure this was one of the best calamari dishes I've had, if not the best! We then ordered two pizzas and a pasta to share and take home. A Cheese Pizza, Margherita Pizza, and Pasta Carbonara. I'm not quite sure where to begin. Both pizzas were so delicious; fresh and hot. Everything about them was great; sauce, cheese, and dough. It's hard to describe, but it was almost a wood fired plus NYC style at the same time. I can't wait to have it again (tomorrow, due to my leftovers). The Pasta Carbonara was also delicious! Great portion, fresh, delicious. I'd recommended the dish without a doubt. Okay, I've said enough. This place is amazing and go ahead and do yourself a favor and try it, yesterday. read more

I made a last-minute reservation at Anthony's for a group of six, and it turned out to be a great choice! We arrived early and took advantage of their half-off martini special--our bartender made sure we got our money's worth. Our server, Ty, was fantastic. He was funny, attentive, and made us feel right at home with his excellent hospitality. We started with mozzarella sticks and mussels in white wine sauce for appetizers. Both were delicious, and even the bread was impressive! While it took about 45 minutes for our entrées to arrive--longer than we'd hoped--the wait was absolutely worth it. I ordered the ribeye with butter sauce, and it was phenomenal. Even the arugula salad that came with it was tasty, and the presentation was top-notch--it gave off some serious Miami vibes! One of my friends ordered the salmon, which they found a bit bland, but overall, the experience was great. The drinks, food, and service were all on point. We'll definitely be back! read more

What a great addition to Glenwood and downtown Raleigh! This place is chic and modern, but still has that authentic and family-style feel. Most notably, the staff is so welcoming and friendly! The owner/chef introduced himself and checked up on us throughout our visit. The bartender was so knowledgeable on their wines and so patient with us to figure out what we liked. And the pizza was delicious -- clearly made fresh and just hit the spot for a quick bite We sat at the bar which was super easy and nice. Went to try this place out for our anniversary and it did NOT disappoint. Being from Rhode Island, we were missing that authentic Italian flavor, but we finally found it at Anthony's La Piazza. We knew we had to try it once we found out Anthony, the owner, was from New York. The restaurant's aesthetic and vibes were great and the food was absolutely Everything is cooked to order and you can tell with each bite. Ty was our server and he was on point, always making sure we were taken care of. Shouts to the chef, Juan as well! Plates were executed perfectly. Big shouts to Anthony as well for coming over to chop it up with us. There's not a lot of restaurants here where you see the owner engaging with the customers to make sure they're enjoying the experience and food. We'll def be coming back! read more

An excellent experience-- with some minor tweaks, this place could be one of the greats. We ordered veal saltimboca, house salad, and spaghetti carbonara. Complimentary bread: both baskets we received came out slightly warm but kind of stale. Like the edges all around the bread were just SLIGHTLY stale. Maybe they're toasted? I don't think they were, I think they had just been sitting out for 10 minutes or so. Honestly, I rarely knock complimentary bread, but nailing this would have put my review at 5 stars. House salad: quality house salad with lots of toppings. They split the large for us in the kitchen so we each got two very nice size salads. Chianti vinaigrette was great. (Minor tweak: stick with just the shaved parmesan-- the grated parmesan in addition to the shaved took away from the presentation.) Veal saltimboca: delicious, but on the salty side with that prosciutto-- don't order if you can't handle the salt. Mashed potatoes were out of this world. Dish would have been more balanced had we ordered the green beans instead, but the mashed potatoes were to die for. Spaghetti carbonara: a solid carbonara, beautiful presentation, huge portion. Don't be idiots like we were and order it WITH the saltimboca-- we would have been better served ordering something lighter (like a seafood or a red sauce dish). Saltimboca and carbonara were very rich in the same way-- wasn't ideal. OUR FAULT though. Now, the service: it was impeccable. Like seriously some of the best service I've ever had. And I paid attention to the other servers and how they were treating their tables (just to see if maybe we got the best one they had). No-- they were ALL incredible. They knew that menu inside and out, they treated the guest like a top priority. I saw one server, instead of telling a woman they were out of the martini she asked for-- he had the bartender make a martini he thought she'd like and told her that if she took a sip and didn't like it, she could feel free to order something else or not order anything at all. Like, who does that? In this day in age? That's putting the customer first. Making them feel like they are being taken care of. Listened to. Understood. All of the servers that I saw last night acted like this. Servers that weren't ours came by our table to check in on us and see if we had everything we needed. Our server couldn't have been better. It's as simple as that. I wish I remembered her name (it's not on our receipt), but she's blonde, maybe in her 40s. She's incredible. Anthony-- you've put together a dynamite team. The vibes: this restaurant fooled me. I was really expecting upscale Italian. Don't get me wrong-- the restaurant is nice. But it's a lot more casual than I was expecting. Staff wearing sneakers/no slacks. Hanging out (like they're family). A huge TV. No real major separation between the bar and restaurant. A tuxedo-clad (very talented) Frank Sinatra cover guy singing at the door. The prices made me think this place was upscale. The food they served me looked like it came from an upscale restaurant. But the vibes are really a lot more casual and fun. Not stuffy. The reason for 4 stars: the bread needs to be fixed. The desserts are not made in house (which is why we didn't order them) and the server couldn't tell us who made them. Had she said, "we get them from this local Italian bakery named, 'x,'" we may have ordered them.) Also, this is me being nitpicky, but the kitchen needs to work on their dessert plating. A simple YouTube video on plating desserts could make those desserts look like they can't be missed. A really wonderful experience overall. We'll definitely be back. read more

Food was good and our server was amazing, but the owner ruined our experience. We went to celebrate my fiancées birthday. While leaving, I decided to go to the bathroom and my fiancé and friend waited for me by the hostess stand in the entrance watching the fight. While they waited for me, a friend of the owner began antagonizing them for watching the fight at the entrance. When my fiancee and friend finally said something, instead of apologizing to them about his drunk friend, the owner began rushing them out the door, saying that his friend was drunk and he didn't want us to make it worse. When I came out of the bathroom he was already rushing them out the door. If a drunk man is constantly making your patrons uncomfortable, you should address that person before making your patrons feel unwelcome. That is not the way to treat customers who spent over 300 dollars at your restaurant and the owner ruined all of the hard work his staff and cooks put into creating a good experience. My friend left a review last night and he was just as rude. No professionalism read more

Our monthly dinner group, The Manhattan Project, enjoyed a fabulous dinner last night. Our server, Nikki, took excellent care of us, the food was exquisite, and Anthony personally went out of his way to insure our favorite adult beverages were available from the bar. Food was delicious, had the ribeye. Being from Staten Island, and seeing "Staten Island style" on the menu in Raleigh I had high expectations and this place met them. Sangria was good and rainbow cake was delicious. Everyone there was very friendly and welcoming. Restaurant had a nice vibe. read more

When we arrived we were greeted and brought to our table immediately. The lighting made for a cozy atmosphere. Very pretty decor. We were kindly asked if we wanted anything to drink. We were brought fresh bread with a plate of olive oil & balsamic vinegar for dipping. Bread was very nice. We had Chicken Parm & Chicken Saltimbocca which were both EXCELLENT! We've eaten here as a family before and always have an amazing experience -- the veal parm is incredible, and the pizza is true Staten Island style! Anthony went above and beyond for our daughter's 13th birthday dinner -- hosting 20 middle schoolers is no easy feat, but everything was perfect. The chicken parmesan, baked ziti, lasagna, and pizzas -- all delicious! Alex, our waiter, was outstanding and kept everything running smoothly. It was a wonderful, memorable evening for everyone. We traveled from California and stumbled upon it, and ended up sitting next to a customer who comes all the way from Tennessee just for Anthony's pizza. This place is so amazingly and deliciously unexpected! We walked in and there was live music. We were seated and Alex was our waiter. We started with very quality drinks. And they brought out hot and crispy bread with fresh olive oil. My husband had the Veal Parmesan. It was tender with the perfect amount of tomato sauce and mozzarella and parmesan cheese. I had the Chicken Piccata. Another amazing dish! Perfect sauce, with butter, lemon and capers. And our 21 year old daughter had the Chicken Marsala...she said it was tender and savory. Anthony's La Piazza is located under a hotel, offering dining and bar seating. On weekends, it might be best to make reservations because it seems like they get packed quickly. If you don't have reservations, don't worry; they do a fantastic job accommodating and making sure you get seated. The only downfall is the wait for the food. It took about an hour and a half to receive our food. It didn't help that our server never returned to check if we needed anything or receive any updates regarding the food. Now, I have a bit of a sweet tooth, but my wife does not. I wanted dessert, and we were leaning toward the tres leches, but our waitress highly recommended the bread pudding. I am not usually a fan of bread pudding at all, but her recommendations had been on point all night, so I decided to trust her. I am so glad we did. They take a Mexican bolillo, soak it overnight in tres leches, then pan-sear it to create this crispy caramelized outside while keeping the inside warm, soft, and sweet. It is topped with crema and toasted coconut, then they pour warm guava syrup over it and serve it with a scoop of coconut sorbet. The layers of flavor in that dessert were unreal. Honestly, it may have been the best dessert we have ever had. And remember, my wife is not big on sweets -- she usually only takes one bite of dessert, but this time she tried to eat over half of it. Lastly, someone at the table exclaimed that their grilled salmon was one of the best salmon dishes he had ever enjoyed as its unique presentation features pickled beetroot, sautéed spinach, and a lemon caper sauce. I had the Poseidon Branzino which was fabulous. The dish had roasted branzino, medley of sautéed cherry tomatoes and onions, fresh herb rice, and skordalia (I had to look up what that is - a fascinating Greek garlic puree). The blending of all those flavors made for a scrumptious dinner, and thanks to the kitchen team for preparing it perfectly so that I could even eat the skin of the fish. We shared two bottles of Assyrtiko wine which is one of our favorite Greek wines after visiting Greece a few years ago. The wine list at Taverna is simple but thorough and fun to experiment with. Walking in you'll feel like you've been transported to a village like, Greek atmosphere. To sit down you'll check in with the host and then be seated either inside or on the rooftop. We opted for the rooftop as it was a nice evening. To start I ordered the Baklava Old Fashioned (Bulleit bourbon, homemade baklava syrup, Angostura bitters, and Amarena cherries) which was amazing. Next we ordered the trio of all three spreads (Tzatziki, sun-dried tomato hummus, and spicy feta spread) and the calamari. Both dishes were excellent and I definitely prefer the spicy feta and tzatziki sauce. For my main course I ordered the Tomahawk Pork Chop (Chargrilled tomahawk chop, spinach, barrel-aged feta, herb aioli, Greek lemon potatoes) which was a bit disappointing. I probably should have sent the pork chop back as it was cooked well done and was very dry but was I was too hungry and didn't want to make my parents wait. For dessert I ordered Baklava Cheesecake (New York-style cheesecake with nuts and baklava filling) which was very nice and my mom ordered the Limoncello cake (lemon cake with lemon cream frosting) which was definitely the star of the show. If I'm back downtown I may try Taverna Agora again but will definitely avoid ordering the pork chop.

My husband spilled an entire beer and we asked the guy who came to help wipe it up if we could get another. His response was a very snippy, "...that's not my responsibilty". No help at all. 4. While we were still deciding on drinks, someone came by and took away the drink menu. we asked for two more, they brought only one, then someone came by and took it again! Since we now couldn't get a waiters attention, I finally went to the station myself to get one. 5. The food : Brussels sprouts in sauce were placed in front of us with no serving utensil, we asked for extra roumelade for the Pickles & Peppers but it took so long to arrive that there was nothing left to dip in it, wrong plates were placed in front of us, hamburgers were WAY over cooked and super dry, sweet potato fries were very soggy, sushi was bland. The espresso caramel chocolate malt that we loved so much before had zero malt flavor and was pretty much melted by the time we got it. We asked for six spoons for the malt and they brought five. I enjoyed the mussels a lot and my wife enjoyed the octopus (not my thing). The entrees were the biggest letdown. We had the cod entree and the scallops entree. Both were just ok. The rice that accompanied the code was bland, and the corn/snap-pea mixture with the scallops was very simple without any interesting flavors (heavy on the salt). We also had the sides Brussels sprouts and Japanese eggplant, which were average, and didn't have anything unique about them. The level of the food just didn't measure up to the cost for me. And to top it off, on one of the hottest days of the year, the air conditioning was clearly not up to the task. The dining room we sat in is completely surrounded by glass, so I'm sure AC is a challenge, but it was warm and uncomfortable. Summary: it wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth the price, and we likely won't return.

The staff was incredibly attentive, making us feel right at home. As for the food--wow. Every dish was a masterpiece. The pasta was hands down the best I've had outside of Italy--perfectly cooked and paired with a rich, flavorful sauce that made each bite better than the last. The veal parmigiana cooked perfectly and the serving size was large enough for me to have lunch the following day. For dessert, Palo helped us celebrate our birthdays with a sparkler and cannolis. I heard this place was good. It was. Being from the NorthEast with Sicilian family roots, and a retired Chef (pastry and Italian food) background I feel I'm a pretty good judge. I felt like we were back home-Anthony (owner) nice guy with a pleasant personality-My husband ordered Zuppa di Pesce-Shrinp are a nice size fish was cooked perfectly for this dish. My friends and I had an amazing experience at Anthony's La Piazza. Everything we tried was so delicious. I especially loved the red sangria, the handmade pasta with vodka sauce and burrata, and the charcuterie board. The homemade focaccia bread was incredible.
