the most expensive restaurant in town for virtually no reason other than to create a class divide. their lobster bisque is good, and their unique selection of meat is nice if you're a meat eater, the drinks are good, but the food is generally disappointing. even their salads are embarrassing. the service is mediocre at best and the food is no better than a home cooked meal. do your wallet a favor and go to the grocery store instead. if you've got money to spend because you're too lazy to cook, then go to the twisted carrot down town instead. their food is what anthony's wishes it was. the only reason to go to anthony's is because you're feeling snobby. it's really so overrated. read more

Worst customer service. When the owner/chef leaves (he is on vacation for 8 days and the quality of the food left with him) there is no one with any sort of power or authority to assist you if your food is terrible. The broccoli was hardly cooked with a congealed yellow, salty blob sat atop the floret, the salmon was over-cooked (I needed water to swallow it down), the rice was crunchy, and the salad was dry due to the miserly amount of dressing. The hostess argued that the team works hard and that she can assure the quality because she helped pack it, which is a completely absurd and frustrating argument to make. The manager, Scott, was "uncomfortable" with doing anything other than apologizing. He did not offer to remake my food and does not have the authority to issue a refund. All he is able or "comfortable" to do is apologize which means absolutely nothing to a weekly regular. I never eat in the restaurant because it smells and feels like the dank, disgusting home of an incontinent 90 year old sat in front of a flop motel. It's overall a very depressing experience to dine in. The only good thing about it was the food, and now that's gone too. This place would never survive outside this benighted town. read more

NOT so Happy Birthday. Haven been here in 6 years, had a gift card we we thought we would try again. Ordered the $50, medium rare beef wellington. Shortly after dinner arrives, I show the waiter the RAW beef. He non-sholontly says, thats the way they cook it, would you like us to cook it longer? Not appreciating the tone, I decided to try to get thru it as I occasionally like a rare steak. As I cut towards the middle, I find the entire bottom of the pastry dough (suprise) RAW. I again motion the waiter over who tells me that's the duck pate. So I scape the grey substance from the top of the dough and show him the difference between duck pate on the top and RAW dough, which I lift and streatch with my fingers on the bottom. He replies, "that's the way we cook it, do you want us to put it back in? After explaining that you can not reheat or recook raw dough, he asks what I want. After 3 denied requests for a replacement dinner, "we" settle on a replacement puff pastry. To complete the night, the $40 duck dinner we ordered was like chewing shoeleather and faintly had a flavor of duck. Will not go back, EVER. read more

The grilled salmon was good (though somewhat over-cooked despite my asking for it to be prepared medium-rare) - and they whipped-up a tasty tartar sauce at my request. An excellent choice of dishes. We first had a crab cake appetizer then I had the pork chop with mushroom sauce and polenta. Both were wonderful. The service was spot on. After moving to Plattsburgh, I keep hearing that Anthony's is the best of the best - although very good with their rustic French sauces and home grown vegetables - I think it is slightly overhyped, especially for the price. The steak was equivalent to other steakhouses I've been too and I've made usda prime steak at home with similar results - I had take out crab cakes and filet Oscar and both were good, will be back to dine in and update the review. read more

Would be a five star review except that I suffered the curse of the single diner. That has never happened here before; groups got water, I didn't . Groups heard about the special, I didn't. When it came time for dessert, the server recited one choice, a group nearby got about 6 choices a few minutes later. Our dinner at this restaurant was probably the worst i have ever had in a restaurant in this price range. My husband had pasta and scallops. The scallops had no sear on them and tasted boiled and the spagetti was over dressed with sauce . Pricing on this was overboard. I requested a salad and received a small portion on my dinner plate and had to eat my potatoe and meat on bread plates so they would not have vinegar on them when i dressed my salad. My filet mignon was ordered rare and was completely brown and tough and had to be returned. By the time it arrived my husband had already finished his meal. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Sorry to say. read more

I came to Plattsburgh for work and I love Anthony's. I started with their house salad which was delicious and their bread. For my entree I had their salmon which came with roasted carrots and rice pilaf. It was the best salmon I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly. My waiter was attentive and helpful also. So, this wasn't bad. This was good. But to me and my s/o this felt like there was a 5 star chef in the kitchen working with 3 star ingredients. The service was great; the atmosphere is just a little bit tacky with the decor. Generally speaking, this feels like a restaurant that's trying to be 5-Star on a budget, cutting corners by buying cheap meats and only seasoning veggies with butter. The seasoning on all of the main courses, the ones that would have been prepared by a head/sous chef, were poor quality main ingredients but were seasoned and cooked well. Otherwise, everything was mediocre. It definitely didn't feel like we got what we paid for. Not bad, but probably not worth the amount of money we spent on it. A note about this review: a lot of these problems could have been directly a result of COVID. Supply chains for meat and vegetables right now are struggling, and it's entirely possible that we just had a mediocre experience because of that. We would 100% come back when things have settled down a bit to try it again. read more

Here we are in plattsburgh ny. A destination stop maybe not. However if you are looking for well prepared meal by someone that cares then this may be your place. The portions are huge. Literally a 1/2 duck was served la orange and was amazing! The place is pretty, classy and elegant. Plenty of choices from the vegetarian or carnivore in you. First time here, although we had heard "best restaurant in Plattsburgh". Visiting from NY, this title could mean Anthonys is really good, or merely the best among the myriad of chain restaurants in town. Rest assured this is a terrific restaurant in ANY town! The ambience is terrific, the service was great and there were two main choices - 1) seating in the main dining area or the bistro (which had live entertainment; 2) ordering from the restaurant menu, with choices from fish, game, meat and vegeterian OR the bistro menu with pastas, sandwiches and salads. Accompanying the food is a deep and varied (by country and region) wine list, with reasonable pricing (skip over the two least expensive in each set, which are a bit overpriced). The lobster bisque soup with fresh sherry was terrific as was the pasta bolognese, with a rich and extra meaty sauce. I had a nice salad and the braised wild boar medallions in a tomato and merlot jus - this was Outstanding! So skip 99 and Uno and the rest and experience the best in Plattsburgh! Really unique restaurant right on Route 3! The identity of this establishment can be considered both lavish and low-grade. Somehow it gives the price and perception of an up-scale fine eatery but in reality is just eh. I had the pleasure of speaking to the owner himself just last week! You would think it's called Anthony's because that is either him or his father's name, but in reality it's named after the owners friend who was murdered in High School. WOW! Pretty good soda selection, but that was about it. Another fun element about this restaurant is the cops who wait along route 3 to try and arrest people for DWIs as they leave late at night. So fun! Those are our heros in blue! Thank god they do what they do, keeping us all safe and killing us in the streets when they feel even a little threatened. 5/5! read more
