I think that this is my first 5 star review. We had dinner at Anthony's last Saturday night and the restaurant was full. In spite of that, everything went smoothly. I heard good things about Anthonys, and I was excited to bring my boyfriend there for his birthday (we traveled an hour and a half each way to go) but it was an epic fail. Firstly, they cooked my entree to be well done and his medium rare. It was supposed to be the other way around so we had to send them back. We ordered gazpacho and it was definitely more like salsa rather than the chilled soup as it was explained to us and as we had in the past at other establishments. They also put my vegetable on his plate. Also, I hate to say this because I love supporting small businesses but while we were waiting for our entrees to be fixed, a bug ran across our table. I kept hoping they would redeem themselves but at the end of the meal, when they were supposed to bring out dessert with a candle on top to help celebrate the birthday, they didn't. I had even called to make special arrangements and I was assured they would let the server know. My boyfriend ordered cake and creme brulee, neither of which came with a candle. We typically don't even order dessert but I had to convince him to because it was his bday. To make it even more awkward, someone else there was celebrating a birthday and he staff had dessert brought out to them with a candle. I spoke with the person who I made the reservation with and he refunded one of the desserts - which was nice but honestly didn't make up for the poor experience and disappointment. A 3 hour round trip drive, 3 hours in the restaurant and $150+ later, sadly, the best thing I can say about Anthonys is that they keep the water glasses filled during your visit. read more

From outside, Anthony's doesn't have much of a charm. That's why we always bypass it whenever we're in Plattsburgh. But, as we were running out of options on where to eat while in town, we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The food we ordered was great. My m.i.l. ordered the catch of the day (I can't remember what it was but it was good) and I ordered their clams and chorizo pasta. It's been said that they make their own chorizo and it was really good. We came in for lunch but I'd be interested to come back and try out their dinner fare because they have lots more to offer. Zero stars and I'm rarely one to post. There may be ambience on the surface but take classy off the descriptions for this restaurant. Arrival five minutes after final seating at 8pm and no attempt at accommodation by the host. The host's attitude and arrogance left my friend and I shocked - we will never go back to try nor recommend the restaurant to other friends and family here, even if it's the last one standing. Take your business elsewhere until customer service and class are established at Anthony's. Dining should be an experience and it's Plattsburgh, not Paris or Manhattan, so North Country friendliness should be part of the package. read more

Anthony's is located in an old farmhouse on the main commercial strip in Plattsburgh. There are two sections in this Restaurant. The dining room and the bistro. The bistro is casual and has a bar, this is where I go. Sometimes the restaurant has been called expensive but I think the bistro is very well priced. The food is the best, in my opinion. The chef starts from scratch, uses high quality and fresh ingredients, local when possible. There is always a stock simmering on the stove. This is the sign of a real kitchen, the base for flavor and health. The crowd around the bar is a mix of locals and business travelers. People are very friendly. The staff is stellar. There is an extensive wine list. Amazing desserts. My only wish is that I could go to this restaurant downtown. This is where to go for a great lunch or dinner as well as a a great atmosphere for indoor dining or drinks. read more

I have eaten here twice, one was a to go order and another was for dinner with co-workers and I have to say the ambiance on the inside is very nice. The prices are a bit to high for the area and for what you get, I would call it a fusion contemporary mix of italian, french and american. The first time I had the duck breast which was pretty tasty and the second time I had the catch of the day which was very good as was their bellini's. All in all I am not sure if I would go back again if I had to pay for dinner, I would rather hoof it up to Montreal for those prices. read more

This place is so far the best I have had in Plattsburgh. Lil quaint for our crowd ....but if theres a good meal we will fit in with the best of them. I come to Plattsburgh twice a month and for some reason hadn't been to Anthony's since it opened in 1980. My husband and I went for dinner on a very busy Saturday night looking for a nice spot for dinner, which is difficult to find in Plattsburgh. There was a wedding reception and a full dining room, we were able to snag the last table in the Bistro. From start to finish it was a wonderful evening. Our waitress (Britney?) was terrific. She was friendly, helpful, and professional. The menu is wonderful mix, I had the Tournedos of Beef Gorgonzola and my husband had the Rack of Lamb, both were perfect. We had recently dined at The Red Lion Inn in Lenox, and I have to say the meals, and cozy atmosphere at Anthony's was far superior. Will definitely become a regular stop for us. read more

We tried Anthony's based on a recommendation. It was spectacular. Everything, including the decor, the ambience, the service, and most importantly the food, was beyond divine. I had a simple house salad with the Parmesan peppercorn dressing--delicious! My husband had the Caesar salad, which was also delicious. For dinner I had the surf and turf with chicken and grilled shrimp. It was served with snow peas and baby (real) carrots and also a Bernaise sauce which was very flavorful. It came with rice but I asked them to leave that off. They were very accommodating. My husband had roast Long Island duckling, which he said was outstanding--better than the duck at his favorite restaurant. The vegetables were prepared perfectly. My son's been waiting for his birthday for some time. He's heard a lot about Anthony's and wanted to try it out. Color me very impressed. Prices range drastically from entrees well under $20 to specials costing a little over $30. This was a splurge, so we did not set a budget for this trip, though in the future, we'd have to. Food My daughter's a vegetarian, so she had fewer options, though there were still some. She opted for the large salad and was a little disappointed by the lack of a homemade ranch, but the parmesan peppercorn dressing was very tasty. She definitely got her money's worth with the amount of veggies in this huge plate. The rest of us had plenty of options on the dinner menu and bistro menu. The bison strip steak was excellent, and my son raved over his Wellington. My husband loved his salmon, and my son's girlfriend was equally impressed with her filet mignon. We also went for dessert and the sweet potato ice cream was a decadent treat that both my daughter and I loved. The German Chocolate cake was another hit. Service The service was equally impressive. Our waiter was excellent, and I appreciated the compliment from either the owner/manager? or bartender? who commented that it's a rare and exciting day that a female beer drinker enters the restaurant. I like wine, but I am much happier with a hoppy IPA. We felt welcome from the moment we entered and will definitely return. I do recommend having a reservation. Mediocre at best. We stopped here for dinner on our drive up to Montreal from NYC because of the great reviews we saw on Yelp. We had the following: Beef Carpaccio (appetizer) - totally bland Grilled Housemade Sausage (appetizer) - adequate, and the best thing we had here Rack of Lamb (entrée) - subpar tasting Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp & Sea Scallop Risotto (entrée) - a bit of a disappointment. The seafood was tender and thankfully not overcooked, but it did not taste good and smelled awful. This and Irises are the two "nice" restaurants in Plattsburgh. This one has a more formal atmosphere, serves a wider selection of meals and has two different menu selections - bistro and main. What a great restaurant. Formal dining in a relaxed atmosphere with a diverse yet engaging imaginative menu. The wine beer and cocktail menu is great featuring local spirits as well. I had a vesper martini made with local gin and vodka. Totally awesome. An appetizer of grilled calamari was perfectly cooked and nicely done with an excellent accompanying sauce and it was a nice departure from the typical fried. For the main course I had the braised bison short ribs perfectly cooked and flavorful with a derp gravy and beautifully presented veggies of carrots with whole pea pods. A wonderful meal with great service. I was tempted by the dessert selection but way too full. Do yourself a favor. Go. Update. I had to go back for something different. Another awesome meal. This time I had no appetizers and ordered the veal special with shrimp scallops and lobster. The whole claw meat tasted like it was grilled (or put into a pan that was too hot) which was in contrast to the shrimp and scallops which were probably sautéed. The pounding veal and sauce was perfect. Each of the components of this dish were cooked perfectly which I feel is difficult to do without over cooking at least one. The vegetables on separate plate were effectively the same as last night with the addition of potato wedges. The carrots were not as al dante as last night though. Another excellent meal. I really enjoyed my two dinner experiences here. And on Friday there is acoustic music in the bistro!!! read more

Staff is attentive and professional. Wine list rocks. Decor and atmosphere is quiet and feels "special". Their house salads are crave-worthy, which is a tough task. Their croutons are fantastic and the bleu cheese dressing is clearly homemade. Unfortunately, their meals, while tasty, are too "saucy" for my taste. Everything comes with some sort of -aise sauce. Perhaps it's the French way to do things, but to me, it just masks the taste of some really great proteins. I love, however, how imaginative their menu and specials are. Where can you go in Plattsburgh to get Elk, Wild Boar or Ostrich? Definitely one of the best non-chain meals in Plattsburgh. read more

Key members of his staff have been involved for years and work together as a team. Arrive early and give yourself time to enjoy an aperitif at the bar. Absorb the relaxed atmosphere. The bar is intimate, and the capable bartender will mix the perfect cocktail. You may choose from 2 menus, Dining Room or Bistro, a formality which does not limit where you choose to be seated. In either case, the food is prepared thoughtfully and is of course delicious. If you are lucky enough to be among the last to leave, enjoy a digestif and visit with the friendly people running things; you will be impressed with their desire to do it the right way. I travel a lot for my business, and recently found myself in Plattsburgh. I ate at this restaurant some years ago, and remember it was good, so finding myself in town again recently, I stopped back in. I was not at al disappointed. I knew I was in the right spot immediately on exiting my car in the parking lot; the smell of garlic was in the air! Always a good sign... The restaurant is divided in half; with one side a more casual "bistro" environment, and the other side a bit more formal. There is a single kitchen, and if you sit in the bistro, as I did, you can freely order off of the "restaurant" menu; as I did. Started the meal with a fried duck "spring roll". It was excellent. The duck was succulent, and as an appetizer, it set me up w/o filling me up. Followed w/ special dish that was being offered, off menu. It was a broiled Florida Grouper over a very tasty risotto. The fish was fresh, flakey, and perfectly cooked. The risotto was moist and flavorful. The service was very good. My waiter was extremely attentive, w/o being obtrusive. The wine list was good, offering a nice range of wines by the glass w/o gauging you. This spot is definitely worth a try. read more

What can I say about this restaurant, well three things: great food, great service, and great atmosphere. My girlfriend and I went to Anthony's on our 3 year anniversary for dinner and they did not disappoint. We we seated quickly by the friendly and polite host. Our waiter came right out with water and ready to take our order. He politely answered any and every question we had about their menu. We ordered the Lobster Bisque for an appetizer, which came quite soon, the Grilled New York Strip Steak (Medium 12 oz.), and the Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp & Sea Scallop Risotto. The food was spectacular, one of the best steaks I've ever had and the shrimp my girlfriend ordered was great too. Afterwards, we pondered on ordering desert and decided to ask our waiter what he recommends. He told us to get their homemade ice with cinnamon. we were the second party to be seated this evening at 5pm, a party of 4. we had reservations. it was a hot day with the afternoon sun shining through the partially covered windows in the back of the restaurant. the other party was already seated and eating when we arrived. we were seated next to them, in an empty restaurant. that was odd but we didn't complain. the sun was hot. given the time of day those tables were the worst in the house. there are 3 tables and a booth in the back row. the other family were from south asia. i am east asian. my wife is white. my adult children were with us. shortly, a single black man was seated in the booth in the back row. the restaurant was still mostly empty. there were no other nonwhite ethnic people in the restaurant as it filled up. the only three nonwhite parties were seated in the back row of tables. you be the judge. having experienced scenes like this occasionally most of my life it is hard to call it a coincidence. read more

I had a perfectly-cooked steak paired with veggies (the sugar snap peas in the sauce was scrumptious) while the other guest had the duck paired with the pear, which was to die for. My husband and I went to Anthony's for my birthday last night. And we were very pleased with the decor, staff and food! For apps I had the Tuna Carpaccio and my husband had the French Onion soup, both were excellent. The tuna was flavored perfectly and the soup was thick and rich, just like a REAL french onion soup should be! For dinner I had the Grilled Fillet of Salmon with Warm Lobster Salsa and it was wonderful, a bit strong but still very good, my salmon and lobster were cooked spot on which I really appreciate! My husband got the surf and turf, his filet was cooked exactly med-rare and his lobster wonderful like mine. Overall a very good experience for us both. Our server was attentive, refilled drinks and knew his menu. We will be going back again when we are in Plattsburgh next. And I would highly suggest you to check it out as well! read more

Fabulous Find! We were on a short extended weekend stay and had researched Anthony's before arriving in the Plattsburgh area. We had an absolutely fantastic meal with outstanding, professional service from our server, "Zack". The restaurant is on a busy strip with generic chain options, but it's a unique, family owned find. Every detail was professional. Sherry added to the lobster bisque tableside; outstanding crusty bread; wine bottle held and poured from the bottom, great entrees (steak and risotto with edamame); fantastic homemade maple cinnamon pecan ice cream. And both the dining room and bistro menus are offered regardless of where you sit. A little expensive for the area? Probably, but worth every penny. Go and enjoy! read more
