I went in last week, and felt a very unwelcoming coldness from the two employees. One was so busy doing absolutely nothing and the few times I was able to catch her eye, she glared at me and briskly turned the other way. The one who spoke treated me as though I wasn't good enough to go into the store. It is the opposite of the feeling I receive whenever I shop in the store in Denver. Online return process is a nightmare for any home furnishings. I bought 2 lamps and sent one lamp back. They refunded me the wrong and lesser expensive item that I kept. No one on the phone was capable of understanding the issue. Now they have charged me again for the wrong item they processed but have still not given me a refund for the item I sent back. Talking to a human is painful. If its not in their script, they don't know how to fix it. read more

I wandered into the State Street store recently and discovered a winter wonderland of soft sweaters and scarves, holiday dresses, adorable Christmas ornaments, and gorgeous beauty/candle stocking stuffers as well as regular RTW, intimates, and even athleisure. Staff members were friendly and warm, and I happily walked out with a purchase that makes me smile every time I look at it. PRO TIP #1: Anthro is a great place to pick up an effortless maxi dress or gifts for a friend's birthday! It was sooo many Friday's ago My roomie asked me to meet up with her At Anthropologie I was at my office finishing up late Around 5-6 pm Walking into Anthropologie I was ordered by roomie to come to the dressing room And grab a seat outside She mentioned the chairs are comfortable I found her opinion to be an understatement She was trying on clothes and wanted a my opinion I suppose she values how I see what she puts on However She told me one of the sales associates was helping her And basically took away my job His name is Faris My roommate isn't exactly the type of person to trust anyone So there had to be something magical about Faris. Well, if there was, I witnessed it Faris knew the store and what they had to offer from top to bottom.. He provided a really great experience instantly notable And it just so happened to be her birthday this month He had her smiling informing her about how much she had saved and how lucky she was to come in to the store that day. I'm just a regular guy, with an eye for a girl in pretty attire. Faris on the other hand... Knew how to get a customer he just met feel like a princess with all what she tried on. He pointed out what worked And what didn't work Most importantly, why. I believe anyone working retail in Santa Barbara could take notes on customer service from his communication with shoppers. Ladies, you just have to walk in to understand why. Guys, don't sleep. Love the selection of clothing and accessories that this store has. I particularly love their candles, decor (infusers), wraps and cardigans. Unfortunately, the customer service is non existent, especially if you are not white. The workers there do not acknowledge you nor ask if assistance is required instead ignore. For a high end store I would expect a higher caliber of service and not the snooty better than you attitude from the cashier. I will be shopping online instead. read more

My husband and I travel a lot. This is our favorite store to look fo. We new they had an anthropologist in Santa Barbara so we took a 45 minute drive to visit it. What a disappointment! This is by far the worst Anthropologie in the state. Clothes were boring and the decor was horrible not at anthropologies standards nor ours. Don't waste your time visiting this one read more

I enjoyed them more when they were at their old location (aka where Forever 21 is now)... regardless, adorable clothing and accessories on the pricier side. Great atmosphere and interior design here and the service was somewhat friendly. I'm redisovering Anthropologie over the last 6 months, after taking a bit of a hiatus from their stores. I feel like recently, they are coming back to past quality and uniqueness (something that I found missing in recent years.) Anyway, during a stroll on State Street, this past Saturday, I noticed they were having 20% off sale items and that doesn't happen very often, so in I went... I must say, although it's a smaller space, compared to other Anthro's, it was well laid out and easy to browse. They didn't try to cram all their sale items in to the back closet, but opted, instead to put some racks of the more delicate blouses out on the floor. I quickly found some specific items I saw online at their sale price and was extremely pleased to be getting the extra 20% off. Their staff was super pleasant, professional and engaged in helping the customers. Keep in mind, this was the Saturday after Black Friday and despite whatever craziness they might have had the day before, they were still all on their A game. I was greeted pleasantly and asked if I needed help as soon I walked in, but was then left to browse at my leisure, which scores high marks in my book. The fitting room attendant was sweet and helpful and even asked me how I made out on my selections, as she was leaving to go on her lunch break, purse in hand. The check out lines ran smoothly and again, nothing but smiles from the cashiers. Super professional all the way and I scored 3 lovely pieces on sale for $155 total. It's rare you can even walk out with 1 or 2 Anthro pieces at that price. Very fond memories of shopping here and highly recommend this location. read more

The sales associates at this location are always super friendly and helpful. I have never had a bad experience and I buy something here at least once a month or so. I think for the size store, they have a great selection and they're good about getting you your size from their online store or another location if they don't have it in stock (bonus: you don't have to pay for shipping if it's ordered through their store!) As far as the actual products go, I feel like the quality has gone slightly downhill on some items in the past few years. I had to return two items after they literally fell apart in the wash (on the first wash!) even though I was following the instructions exactly. I also was disappointed that two lipsticks I bought over summer broke off at the base within weeks of using them. But then again, they take back items that are obviously defective. They're actually really great about returns in general. Nobody wants that cute top to unravel on the first wear, but at least you have some recourse if you end up with something that isn't made properly. I love to shop for cloths! Anthropologie is my new favorite store to buy cloths in SB. I haven't shopped there in years. I walk in and picked out a few things. Then the stylist picked out a few more things and put them in my room. I loved everything she picked for me. I ended up getting a whole new wardrobe and look. I've gotten so many compliments, it's crazy! My husband who let's just say isn't usually a fan of me buying new cloths, couldn't help but tell me how cute I've been looking! Strangers are asking me where I got my outfits. Plus don't even get me started about the household items! Best store in SB, do fun! read more

Just when I think I'm free......they suck me back in! Dammit! So yesterday two friends and I headed on up to SB to escape the chaotic land of la la for a few hours. While there, we decided to take a stroll along State Street and walk the pup. As we are cruising along looking at stores with stuff that I would never want (hello, crossroad's creek?!) and commenting to my friend, "Damn, this street is lame for shopping," Bam, we walk by this place! Now as any fashionable chicky knows, you can't walk by an Anthropologie and call yourself a girl if your hands don't start sweating as your shopping momentum shakes and shimmies and builds and things like budgets and savings accounts go out the window. It's not something we are proud of, but it's reality because Anthropologie rules! And so, we went in. We looked, we fondled and drooled and fondled some more and touched again and went upstairs and went downstairs and cried and panted and hung our heads and then returned back out onto State Street. I blame (thank) the pup for coming out empty handed since we couldn't leave her out there that long, but f*#k, I love that store. Why can't I win the lottery and make Anthro my closet. Huh? Some brands are political (Citizens of Humanity, Free People, Good Society, etc) others are a bit heavier and philosophical (Theory, Ideology, Life & Death, etc). Academic disciplines are underrepresented in such a serious mix. You will not find brands like Chemistry, Women's Studies, Physics, Engineering. But you will find Anthropologie--the lone discipline of the clothing brand world (and to trick us it evades traditional spelling). This is a chain store but with a more handmade i-just-bought-this-in-a-Toulouse-boutique aesthetic. Ensembles are usually complicated and involve a lot of detail, layering, patterns, accessories and colors. Clothes often have a vintage air to them, even though they're certainly not. Think creams, not whites unless they contain embroidery. Their catalog photography is gorgeous and will make you want to travel to the eastern Italian coast or Marrakesh--perhaps to complete field research? Clothing quality is questionable and tailoring is below average. The target market can begin as young as high school and extend well on up--usually a more thoughtful, artier, girlier consumer. I see a lot of people wearing Anthropologie clothes well and in lovely ways. Personally, I cannot figure out how to structure an ensemble. There is too much detail, handiwork, and color to figure out and the aesthetic is not quite classic enough to suit my taste. I also find the clothing too feminine and cutesy (I will not wear anything with bows, non-functional buttons, ribbon, or patterned with florals). If an outfit takes that much effort to coordinate, then it's a waste of time. I usually leave Anthropologie empty handed and head over to minimalist Club Monaco--it's like walking out of the clutter of a Gaudi structure and into the refreshing clean lines of a Mies van der Rohe masterpiece. read more

Bad experience with the brunette cashier... she was very rude and jealous that my boyfriend was spoiling me with a shopping spree. She glared at me with pathetic looks that came across like she had bad gas or upset stomach. Everytime i asked her for a size0 or xS, she replied "sorry we are out of stock.The blonde employee was very helpful, a breathe of fresh air, the complete opposite of the unattractive brunette. She tried to flirt with my boyfriend, who was not at all interestedand thought she was degrading and disrespectful, we loved the clothes we bought. Shopping should be a fun experience. Now THIS is shopping!!!! the Staff - Sometimes you walk into a store and get young adults who just treat this as a job. Sometimes you go into a store and you get well trained sales professionals who want to help you and also upsell you on something else. And then you walk into a store with people who care about the clothes and care about making you look and feel good in them. This location is one of these places. (*kudos to you... I want to call you Martha but I know that's not your name, sorry!) the Presentation - The Santa Barbara store felt like I was walking into one of the magazine photo shoot. The store felt very spacious and well stocked. Seriously, I know that I have issues with directions, but I felt like I was lost within 3 different stores, and the place was big but not THAT big. My compliments to the interior decorator. Even with all the weekend shoppers coming in, I never felt like anyone was within my own personal space as I shopped. And that is precious to me when I shop. the Selection - The store had a more choices than I was expecting, and a lot of surprises. My wallet may be sore and lighter, but I feel that it was worth it. I know I am not a little girl anymore, or wasted-youth-Los Angeleno, and I want to dress like a vibrant woman who fiercely appreciates all aspects of life. The subtle and the glamour.. As my tastes mature (God, I said mature! ME!?!), I am finding myself drawn more and more to Anthropologie's selection. Some clothes make you want to fight back against the passing of a season (and age). Other clothes make you feel timeless and ageless. Warm, comfy and graceful, transcendent of time and space (how old you appear to be, and what part of the world you are from). This is my experience here. To say that I am ranting is an understatement, because I really did feel like was dressing the person inside me that will thrive over the years, instead of just getting something chic that I will be sick of in three weeks. I believe shopping can be therapeutic, and if others had the same shopping experience that I had here, then there would be more healthy and happy people in the world. read more

As far as Anthropologie's go, this one really takes the cake as the best one I've been two. Two floors of wonderful clothing. One of the things that sets this location apart is the sheer size of the place, and the layout. They don't have everything crammed into a small area, so you can easily browse the selection and don't have to sift through racks to find stuff. The sale selection upstairs is pretty good (first time I went there it was top-notch five-star selection and I left with a few things... this time it was kinda meh and I left empty-handed). The star off is for price. Sure, I appreciate the designer nature of the stuff, but some of the prices seem to be kinda spendy for what you're getting. I have to say though I always find way more things I want at this location than any of the others I've been to. read more

So I've always loved this place since they opened in SB years, years ago, no I won't tell you my age :) love their cute dishes, plates, mugs, decor, and definitely love their clothes. So I was just returning something my daughter had changed her mind on. I walk in and start walking one girl on table about 10-15 feet away no Hi, or good evening, nothing... ok she's busy. I walk around, check all front section, walk to the back area then that are with dishes, plates, another girl walks around again and nothing no Hi, good evening, looking for something? Nope nothing again. I keep walking around checking stuff, walk to the sale area, then to sleepwear area I see another by the fitting rooms, and again nothing. Around now, I'm just pretty disappointed, cause this place was never like this, they had customer service and can't believe, three gals haven't been trained or just basic salesperson etiquette. Then decided to just finish that return I had come in to do. Honestly I though I would find something to exchange it to. Just got in line and completed the return, I guess at that point at the register girl had to say, since I was right in front of her. Whatever happened to customer service, at a place like this. Not sure I'll be doing much Christmas shopping here, left pretty disappointed. read more

I wouldn't call myself a big Anthropologie shopper, as it can be a little overly girly barf for my taste at times. However, the key to making their fashion work is mixing and matching so you don't look like a doile. That said, I'd taken a break from Anthro for quite some time, and must say I was very pleased by the assortment in this store. I am currently pregnant and like buying "non-maternity maternity wear," which Anthro makes very easy with all of their loose sweaters and ponchos and tunics. I walked out with a couple of very cute, unique sweaters, a cool tank/tunic, and a fun necklace. There was a lot to choose from in the store, and it is very spacious and laid out well, with a fairly ample home selection as well. Salespeople were eager to help but not overbearing. read more

This location of Anthro is great. It's well organized and things are placed a bit more spaciously for easy browsing. It was well stocked and the staff was super friendly. The dressing rooms are also really nice with a seating area as well. I just love this downtown area. There are tons of shops, cafes, and restaurants. The architecture is especially nice because they all have interesting, beautiful exteriors. It's actually hard to tell a boutique store from a major chain store until you get close! read more

The store is really well organized and open. I really like that their sale section is right in front when you walk in, so of course I grab up a bunch of stuff and walk around! I really liked their old location better, but they have such beautiful displays and ambiance that the building adds very little. I love this place! Although their clothes are very pricey, I bought a sweater that I'm very happy with. When you go into the store the employees don't storm you with unwanted HI HOW ARE YOU'S unlike other stores. The employees are there when you need them. The lady at the fitting room was very nice and didn't even bug me with how many items I had. The cashiers were friendly too. It's a beautiful store that I will probably visit more often once I graduate and earn more money. read more

Anthropologie is my favorite store for clothing, accessories and house ware so I was eager to explore this location today while on vacation from LA. However, my heart sank as I entered and proceeded to walk by TWO sales people who offered no greeting. I tried to engage them (i.e., eye contact) but they did not seem interested in securing a sale from me. And on this particular day I was a walking advertisement for the store (with an Anthro wrap and heels). Disappointed, my husband (who also noted the lackluster reception) and I vacated the store. And too bad as I was in a real shopping mood. Perhaps it was an off-day for the staff (or I didn't fit their typical customer profile) but seriously, the (first) rule of thumb when working in sales is to always greet a potential customer. Normally, I'd give any anthro 5 stars without question. But in this case, I am irrational and bitter that my anthro both shrunk and moved several blocks up past where I normally walk on State Street. Sure, the new store is fine, but it isn't what it was (half the size and not as good of a local) now that Forever 21 took over its old space. While I like this store a lot, I could never justify spending $86 on a shirt or $156 on a dress. Hell no. Instead, I head straight upstairs to the sale racks, where I sort through things carefully, hoping to find something cute in my size, which I normally do. The only thing I've ever bought here at full price was a super cute teacup and saucer set. It was $12 and well worth it. Most of their home decor stuff is really very sweet, as is their jewelry, which is also really pricey. read more

As a longtime Anthro shopper, the Santa Barbara store was my equivalent of Mecca for many years. I haven't been to SB in about 8 years... Maybe longer even...and surprise. That location is now a Forever 21. The new location seems smaller, but nicely done. Not much to say except that, I guess I got spoiled by the ease and customer service that came with shopping at the Santana Row store. However, I did manage to find a few buys. In general, it seems like the quality of brands at Anthro, not just this location --- but the chain as a whole, has gone downhill somewhat. However, I do love the hippie chic style. read more

I really like the new location, although the now-Forever 21 location was how I remembered Anthropologie. I haven't bought much clothing, but I did get some find some great gift items! I'm in love with my Simple Diary...and among that, there were lots of other great creative journals and stationary sets and such. Pricey, but it's always fun to take a stroll through the store and stumble upon a gem of a find. read more
