I don't know if it is because we arrived a little late and they were about to close the place in the afternoon, but the risotto was horrible. As you can see in the picture they barely added seafood. We wanted to get some seafood on our last day in Venice and this place was recommended to us. We ended up getting some fairly simple items since we just didn't have it in us to wine and dine in Italy anymore after a few weeks of doing that. Ended up getting the sea bass and the almond salmon with mixed salads. Finished it off with tiramisu and some tea and a macchiato. All in all we really enjoyed the food and the service! The restaurant isn't very big and therefore very cozy. Everything here was phenomenal from the Wine, the Baby Calamari Fritto, to the Almond crusted salmon down to the Tiramisu and the espresso. So glad we asked a gondolier where he eats. This was 100% our favorite place to have dinner in Venice. The ambiance is very nice and authentic with oil paintings hanging on the walls and the Gondolier hats hanging from the ceiling. We tried this restaurant on our first night in Italy/Venice after looking for a place that had ample seafood options. Our host and server were very attentive, taking our orders and delivering the food promptly. I had the sauteed mussels and clams with tomatoes, lemon, wine, garlic, butter and other herbs. It was extremely satisfying and the main seafood dishes and second courses were very reasonably priced for the amount of high-quality seafood and choices. My brother had the squid ink pasta, which came with large chunks of sauteed squid, green pasta and ink sauce. The house white wine was also excellent. If you are looking for a quieter place slightly away from the San Marco crowds with a TON of seafood options, this is a good option. My only complaint was that they charged 3 euros per person for bread that we did not request. Also, make sure to ask for the check and then pay at the counter as in most places in Italy. read more

My husband and I went here when we were in Venice on our honeymoon. We had the best waiter ever, the best house wine ever, and some of the best food in Venice. We had made reservations, but still had a wait. Because we had to wait, we were given complimentary Prosecco to drink before dinner! The thing that sticks out most to us in this place, was our waiter and the wine. We got the White House wine that came in this seemingly endless pitcher. While in Venice, I went here twice with my family (of 4), both times for dinner. Everything at Antico Calice is delicious. Every dish is made fresh and with local ingredients, so the pasta dishes come with a different sauce based on the ingredients available that day at the market. The seafood is amazing. They are able to cook every type of fish on their menu to perfection. I can personally attest to the tastiness of both pastas with monkfish and mussels, respectively, as well as the filet steak, which was juicy and seasoned to a T. We also had the tiramisu which was classic and delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and the presentation of each dish is beautiful. My last night in Venice and got a recommendation from a Venice native (yes they exist). Enjoyed Antico Calice and as others said, very typical Venetian cuisine. What that means is that it is a seafood heavy menu and if you don't like seafood, I would go elsewhere. Started with the pasta nero with cuttlefish (black pasta) and it was great. I never had cuttlefish before and it was much more tender than I expected. Followed with the roasted monk fish. I liked it but it tasted more like a roasted fish than the monk fish I was used to. What surprised me was the quality of the vegetable side order I got. A great variety and quite well prepared. Would definitely come again. read more

The clam pasta is incredible! A large portion for each person. The service is bustling and typical Italian, but it's not about speedy service. It's about taste that changes your world. We arrived for our dinner reservation at 7:30pm but found the door was locked. A local friendly Italian woman made them open it for us and they gave us white wine on the house. We were seated at around 8pm and then ordered. Food ordered included mixed seafood appetizer, lobster spaghetti, squid Ink tagliatelle with cuttlefish, grilled eggplant and zucchini. Antipast misto included baccala, octopus, cuttlefish, sardines, squid innards, mini shrimps, scallops and polenta. Everything was tender, especially the inside of the squid. The squid ink pasta had the most tender cuttlefish I have eaten along with homemade tagliatelle with black squid ink. The portions were huge for the pasta. This is another one of my favorite restaurants during my visit to Italy. Will definitely return. They are moving to a larger location soon. read more

Very friendly and attentive. Bread basket was offered with about 4 types of breads. The frizzante water comes in their own glass bottle. They serve typical "Venezian" food. We found this place with a little difficulty, but the back tracking was well worth it. In a city with food mostly catered to tourists who don't care too much about the quality of their food this restaurant is a gem. The menu changes daily but you're always sure to find something on it that you like. They serve wine by tap - cheap but decent - and their starter of prosciutto is excellent. Reasonable prices, cosy atmosphere, nice waiters (with some English). It starts to get really busy after 7pm and they don't have many tables, so go early. I came here with a reasonably large group (about 8 people) for a late lunch while visiting Venice. Like many, we had been wandering through the alleys of Venice exploring the town. Our group decided that lunch was in order and believe it or not, we stumbled upon this place based on a gondolier who was soliciting customers. Upon arriving, the restaurant was slightly more than half full, which was an encouraging sign as we weren't sure how strong of a recommendation the gondolier had given us. We were able to get seated promptly. The servers were quite friendly, though it probably helped that two of us were either fluent or very conversant in Italian. In reading the menu, you should come here if you like seafood or like homemade pasta. Both are prominently featured. Based on what folks ordered, it also seems that they do quite well at it. I ordered the FRITTURA MISTA DI PESCE E VERDURE. It was a light batter and not super heavy. The polenta that came along with it was quite tasty. If you are slightly more adventurous, I'd recommend SEPPIE IN TECIA COL NERO. My father tried it, and must admit it was quite tasty. Don't let the looks of the dish scare you off. The restaurant had excellent choices in wine, with our table getting excellent red and white wines. We left having paid a reasonable amount for a quality meal. The food was good but we ate better in Venice. Everything is heavy, so if you come in like we did hoping for a lighter lunch it's hard to find something that won't totally stuff you. I had the fish skewer, which was good. My wife had the tagliatelle with monkfish which we both liked. As others have said it's almost 100% seafood so don't go if you don't really love fish or mussels. I had asked for a recommendation for places where locals go. Well, I bet they don't charge the locals 3 euro cover charge to walk in the door! Im sure the fish is good - I saw a plate and it looked fabulous. I wanted pasta with anything other but fish but nothing like that on the menu. So, I had steak. They asked if I wanted it medium or medium well. I asked for medium and it came out almost raw. I ate around the edges, less than a quarter of the steak and was finished. I did not send it back because I assumed that I had lost something in translation, which is correct. I later learned that Medium means raw, medium well means pink. That given, they could clearly see that I did not enjoy my meal and never asked me if they could make it right. Disappointed but I accepted responsibility for the mistake. I ordered the tiramisu and a cappuccino which was absolutely wonderful! I enjoyed the atmosphere. Things went wrong, however, when I went to pay and asked what "coperto" means. They said cover charge. In all my travels, all over the world, I have never been charged a cover charge to walk into a restaurant and grace them with my presence. I'm not sure if Venice is sick of tourists or if they sized me up as being a low priority because I'm a single woman eating alone. The service was barely adequate. Definitely not friendly or helpful, on the edge of rude. From now on I will stick to where they appreciate tourist dollars. This is definitely not the place! read more

My husband and I are not ones to complain or write a bad review but our last meal in Venice (after having wonderful meals over the past 2 weeks throughout Croatia, Trieste and Venice) warranted it. We had a reservation made by our hotel. We walked in and not one person acknowledged us or even bothered to say one moment please in the countless times they walked by us. This set the tone for the whole night and we regret we didn't listen to our gut and walk out. Every service person from the owners/managers to staff people had the same attitude and could care less. We had to ask for everything: a table, then menus, chance to order, and even dessert and then of course the check. We were asked if we'd like some limoncello but that was just a tease, and it never arrived. We got tired of asking so finally we had enough and got up to pay. Not one person said thank you or goodnight. The sad thing is that our wonderful trip ended on this note. We give people the benefit of the doubt so we kept hoping my smiling and asking politely for things that we could make friends but not one smile all night. We felt like we were burdens upon them. I will say the food was good but mixed with unfriendly service detracts from experience. We informed the hotel so they know for the future. I would not recommend obviously. Go somewhere with delicious food and people who are glad to have you as their guests. There are plenty of those around. This is not one them. read more

This is a cracking little restaurant in the centre of Venice, right by the Rialto Bridge. It's off a windy little side street and can be hard to find, but then that means that most tourists are put off. Very popular with the locals, this place offers great food, a good range of drinks, cheap wine (nice!), and also some lovely dessert wine called fragolino which tastes of strawberries. The waiters are friendly and speak some English, and the pasta dish with shrimp and pumpkin was just wonderfully tasty. Definitely a lovely, romantic restaurant, and the prices are reasonable too! read more
