Antico Calice is schifoso. When we entered the restaurant I was wary because of the slight smell of fish and the lack of AC, and a couple of disgruntled reviews I read but I decided to ignore my better instincts because the place was highly recommended by a reliable friend. Then the salad came with a very white/green tomato in it, next my Campari Spritz made with flat prosecco. I've been drinking Campari spritz every day since we got to Venice 5 days ago and have been delighted every time. When I tell the waiter the drink has flat prosecco in it, he holds it up to the light says it's perfect and refuses to take it back, says he knows what it should taste like, they've been making them for years. At this point we try to leave. We say I'm feeling sick can you please cancel the rest of our order. The waiter refuses. We get a plate of fritti misti some of which taste fine, but some pieces of fish are definitely on edge. On the plate also has some oversalted white polenta which seems like the only safe thing to eat. We also ordered a pasta which was edible, also oversalted, also with fish that was just OK. When we got up to pay without drinking or eating half of our order the staff seemed to not care at all. I'm confused by the reviews that say this place is filled with Italians because most of the other diners were American, German, I don't know from where but I didn't hear any Italian and the servers were rude enough to serve food that looked and tasted disgusting enough they must not be looking for repeat customers. I wish I took a picture of the salad because if I had seen it on trip advisor I would have been saved from this awful waste of a beautiful night in Venice. read more
