Happy Father's Day to all the other dads out there. My wife and youngest son decided to take me for a Father's Day lunch today at Antinoz. She had been there once before with her retired teacher's group and raved about it for a few days. I was excited to go. The actual venue is really charming. Our server told us that the owner decorated it himself, including painting the beautiful murals. The tables are nicely spread out. Everything is cheerful and clean. The food was wonderful. We started with garlic cheese bread. It came on a platter with a bowl of sauce in the middle. There was plenty for the three of us on the platter. It was wonderful. The bread was soft and tasty. The cheese and sauce put it over the top. For my entree, I ordered Diavola alla Crema, which was gnocchi, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, parmesan, shrimp, and a spicy creamy sauce. There were options such as pasta instead of gnocchi and chicken instead of shrimp. In fact, my wife had the same dish with the chicken. I can't say enough about this meal. First of all, the portion was absolutely huge. I actually brought half of mine home with me so I could manage dessert. The shrimp were cooked to perfection. The gnocchi were lusciously soft and flavorful, but the sauce... OMG that sauce. It was creamy and seasoned immaculately. There was a tiny bite to it that really sent the whole dish overboard. I even commented to my wife that I couldn't think of anything that could ever make that sauce better. It was truly the star of the plate. My son had the Chicken Gorgonzola. He said it was very good. All I can say is that it sure looked amazing. He raved about the sauce on his, as well. He couldn't eat all of his, and carried a small box home with him. He even skipped dessert. My wife and I are dessert people when celebrating an occasion. The server said she had a tray of samples to show us, but recommended that we walk over to the counters to see the full selection. I took one look and felt my heart beating faster. I liked everything I saw, but two things really stuck out for me. When we got back to the table I told my wife I was torn between two of them. She was also torn between the same two choices, so we ordered one of each and split them. I don't remember the names, and they aren't listed on the receipt. I think one was called Biscoff caramel cheesecake. The other was a huge slice of a delicious layered cake that had cream filling and blueberries. Both of them were truly delicious. We were excited to try this new place after reading about it and seeing the glowing reviews. Sadly, this was not our experience. The place was busy as it was a weekend so after a small wait , the 4 of us were seated and greeted warmly. Food: 2:5 / we ordered a total of 6 items (2 appetizers and 4 entrees). The chicken piccata was basically a deep fried chicken breast served with pasta tossed in a lemon butter caper sauce. The chicken while tender was dry as was the pasta. I expect piccata to be a thinly pounded chicken breast that's pan fried so this was a complete surprise? My wife ordered the pasta with meat sauce (Surprise, no meat in the sauce - yes she looked for it). Our friend ordered the Diablo(sp?) chicken (Gorgonzola sauce). A little on the salty side but she finished her meal. Her husband ordered another chicken dish (with gnocchi or similar small pasta). Was supposed to come with chicken but he had to ask for it so was fired in the kitchen but arrived in time to be placed into the leftover Togo container. For appetizer we were told the calamari was their signature item so we ordered that with an order of meatballs served on a bed of meat sauce? The calamari was tasty but not appealing to look at (more like onion rings) and the meatballs appetizer came out with the other entrees(maybe forgot?). Regardless, the meatballs and sauce were cold. Service: 3:5 / while friendly, once the room got busier, we didn't see our server much (understandably). Ambience: 3:5 / smaller dining rooms with intimate setting so fairly noisy (not necessarily a bad thing) but it was obvious they wanted us to eat and leave so we didn't and took our conversation to the parking lot (plenty of parking). Overall, I'd recommend they revisit the menu and tweak it (example: instead of giving me 2 breast pieces, 1 could have been pounded into 2 and pan fried. Saves money too). We had a wonderful time at this restaurant for brunch on a Sunday. it is BYOB, but I heard they're in the process of being able to sell alcohol. We started off with the calamari and the burrata pesto caprese. The calamari was seasoned really well and it came with a dipping sauce that complimented the flavor. The burrata was a good size. I would have liked more bread with it though. For our lunch, we shared the diovolla à la crema gnocchi and the Margherita pizza. The pizza is thin crust. The gnocchi was delicious. It came with a topping of fried onions and shrimp. I used the sauce from the gnocchi as a dip for the crust of my pizza For our dessert,we shared a pistachio tiramisu and a slice of carrot cake. Our favorite was the pistachio tiramisu . It was sweet, but not overwhelming and you can definitely taste the pistachio. We tried that unsweet tea with lavender and it was very good. They sell coffee and other non alcoholic beverages. We did make reservations, but we didn't really need them. They seating is really nice. They have some comfy couches. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. This is a great place for lunch, dinner, dessert, or takeout pizza. Parking is available on site, but it is shared with the other businesses and you may have to park a little further out than you would like. read more

This was our third visit to Antinoz Cafe, and it was not a disappointment. Just a couple doors down from our favorite brunch spot, Baked Bird, Antinoz is landing high on our line-up of lunch/dinner spots. Service was impeccable. Just the right amount of attention, and very friendly. The meal started with crusty bread served with a sun-dried tomato pesto. It was a very nice change of pace from seasoned olive oil. I ordered Diavola à la Crema Gnocchi with shrimp. It was divine. Slightly spicy, very flavorful with light fluffy gnocchi. The creamy pesto fettuccine that my daughter had was also very tasty. I have driven by this restaurant many times and have never noticed it until tonight. Saw it had great reviews and decided to get food to go. My husband and I talked to the staff and they were super nice, very informative. While we waited for our food, we were told we could sit in their dining area; it is very nice and trendy. But I will say it felt awkward, it was intensely quiet even though the music was nice soft jazz music. I decided to go with the lamb chop and buttery fettuccine, the lamb chops were good, but needed salt and the fettuccine was very bland, not buttery at all, wouldn't get it again. My husband's soup was so good, it was so flavorful just quite small for $7. The caprese salad was also small and not good. I like to give everything a second try, so I'll probably go back, but currently not impressed with the cuisine. My rating is mostly on the look of the place and the service, everyone was very nice and welcoming. read more

This was a great Italian restaurant. Everything we ordered was delicious. You can make reservations online which was great since we had a larger group. I had the Caprese sandwich and every ingredient was incredibly fresh and tasty. Great portions and presentations as well. The cafe was nicely decorated and pristinely clean. Their bathrooms are in the middle of the restaurant instead of in the back which felt a little awkward but was not an issue. There is plenty of parking in the lot but there are several other businesses in the strip so parking might be hard to find dependent on the time you go. I hope to go back soon! read more

I've been struggling with this review for a week, but I finally have to write it. The food is really mediocre and VERY, VERY, VERY expensive for what it is. Lasagna is $26 - it's a decent serving size, but it's nothing to write home about. The sauce seems like it is right out of a jar. It's too sweet and it overpowered the taste of the meat and the other ingredients in the dish. The Ravioli Funghi ($31) is a decent concept, but the sauce is too rich (and it's WAY too expensive for what it is). Bottom line - the price is what kills this place. It's way too much to pay for a joint in a neighborhood strip mall. The service is also just, meh. The first entree took 20 minutes to come out, and we had to wait 5 minutes for the other entree. There was only one other table occupied when we were there, and they were wrapping up their meal. I just can't justify it. These prices are higher than downtown SA prices. It's crazy. read more

I think they're still getting into a groove and that's all that keeps me from giving the full five stars, but I am sure when I come back, it will be a glowing five stars review! We walked in as a party of 3 on a weekday lunch and immediately got to sit in one of the nice comfy tables with a nice bucket seat and comfy soft chairs in the back. The decor was sweet and welcoming. The chef brought us out samples of her soup and it was AMAZING. We ended up going simple and getting a pepperoni pizza, and I got a side of the balsamic glaze from one of the other pizzas. The cheese was gooey and amazing! We also had an order of calamari - solid quality, fairly normal. And the drinks are just wonderful! I had a lavender latte and it was tasty and adorable. I was so full though - I wanted to try one of their various tiramisus or cannolis so badly. I guess I will just have to come back! We got sat promptly around 6pm, open kitchen concept and bakery/coffee bar area. It was well decorated and not super crowded or loud with music like other restaurants so it was easy to catch up with friends without having to yell. Our server checked in very often and she gave some pretty yummy recommendations. Overall the service and complimentary aperitif (toast bread and black olive spread) was delicious. Not too overpowering. I believe the owner swooped in to check on us and offer dessert options with some suggestions. After having dinner nearby we were looking for a dessert place. It was late and almost everything closed. I found this place on the map nearby and decided to go check it out. The cafe itself is absolutely adorable! I had high hopes until we got our desserts. I am still trying to figure out why San Antonio doesn't have good desserts! And how come most places use these fake ingredients for flavoring! So disappointing! We couldn't even finish them. I decided to give a chance and try a soup in hopes to save that place as a future hang out spot. Even the soup was so salty I couldn't even finish it. Beautiful little cafe. The menu looks amazing and the blackberry mojito was excellent. That is where it ends. The food was mediocre at best. The meatball appetizer was cold as was the marinara sauce they were in. The meatballs themselves were awful. We ordered the Chicken gorgonzola which was too salty to eat and the Diavola Gnocchi with chicken which had no chicken. By the time we received the chicken we were ready to leave. At one point after the appetizers we were asked if we wanted dessert. We were still waiting for our diner. After dinner they made it obvious they wanted us to leave. We went with another couple. The restaurant was full and they seemed completely unable to keep up. Between the wait, poor service and food we will not be returning. We heard about this pizza restaurant from an Instagram post and decided to check it out! When we arrived, we didn't see a server for about 15 minutes. This was a bit confusing, but a waiter eventually showed up to our table ready to take our order. The place was very beautiful and decorated like you're in a fine restaurant in Italy. Lots of European decor, and some of the tables are situated to where you can sit on a long couch. The menu was fun to look through, and we loved the pronunciation assistance for the names. The appetizers were good, but not amazing. We really liked the complimentary garlic bread + its sauce/paste it came with. The pizzas were unique and tasty, and the coffees were AMAZING. Our service was below par unfortunately - we had to keep asking for our waters to be refilled and flagged down our waiter multiple times, as he never stopped to check in. One of our friends' entrees came 20 minutes before our pizzas did, and the pizzas came out about 5-10 minutes apart from each other like they only had one oven (and maybe that's the case). We most likely won't be going back to dine in, but might order a coffee to-go in the future! read more

In my Saturday morning, 02/08/2025 visit for breakfast I found mislabeled muffins and when I ordered breakfast pizza the server told me it would be an hour wait because she had just turned the oven on. This was well past 10 and breakfast hours are 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. So, that would mean the breakfast pizza being served or not served at all after 11 a.m. After opting for the muffins and the lavender iced coffee--all good--and finishing these I asked the server for water. He never brought it, requiring me to ask for it again on my way to the exit. In a prior visit I was quoted a 45-minute wait for lasagna because they had none prepared and I chose the spaghetti, which I found to be bland. The servers seem to be poorly trained, lacking of initiative, lacking of common sense or some combination thereof. I suspect that the restaurant--which took several months to open--is poorly run and has a high turnover. As before the food, except for the spaghetti, was good. So, I give it three stars. However, the restaurant needs to improve its service to merit a higher rating in my view. As it stands it is doubtful Antoniz could well handle an influx of patrons due to observations of Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, etc. read more
