Fantastic place. Fantastic service. Fantastic food. Our server was TOP NOTCH. He recommended the spinach dumplings and he could not have been more spot on. They were so good. The ambiance is amazing. A definite date night spot. You must go if you have never been.

They overbooked the restaurant the night we dined here and had a reservation at 8pm. Didn't really give us an explanation or an estimated wait time. Also didn't offer to comp anything. Just said there were people in front of us. We waited it out and got seated at 8:40pm. Waiter didn't say anything about the wait time. Once we were seated the experience was fine. The food was very good and the waiter was attentive. Highly recommend the meatballs, spinach dumplings and the fettuccine prosciutto pasta. The chicken parm was recommended to us but honestly, id skip it next time. Found a bone in it. OH ALSO. We paid for 2 hr parking across the street and because we were delayed in seating by 40 min, we went over the time by 15 min and now we have a $100 bill to cover. Thanks Battalion!

A beautiful restaurant from the moment you walk in, old fire station turned restaurant Waited a good 40 mins with a reservation sat at bar until table was ready sat and ordered and the 1 demerit they did not have the New York strip available as part of their meat, it had "Just" sold out which is one of the best to have in any restaurant, the food we did order was good great salad and chicken parmigiana the ambiance is fantastic red beautiful lighting sets the tone soothing chill music plays in the background. Definitely try it for restaurant week. Quick note the restaurant has no parking you have to pay for it

This place is 10/10!! Walk a few extra steps from the touristy Riverwalk joints to eat here, I promise you it's worth it! Amazing prices for the quality. Management is incredibly attentive. Staff is super professional. Atmosphere is historic fire dept. meets hip night club vibes. Great cocktails. If you like bourbon they had Blue Corn Still Austin...BTAC...and more. Can't wait to go back again.

This place has such unique character! My fiancé and I dined with Battalion for our 10th anniversary and we had such a lovely time. Our server was sweet and attentive without hovering too much, and even brought us a complementary slice of Olive Oil and Lemon Cake to celebrate our occasion. Everything was absolutely delicious, but my favorite had the be the Three Cheese Beef and Pork Meatballs. Savory, sweet, rich in flavor, this meal hit all the marks. I'd highly recommend Battalion, especially for a date. The ambiance, food, and service were all excellent and worth sharing the experience with.

I managed to sneak in online around 3pm to make a 5pm booking for our family We got there as soon as the restaurant opened. The check says that our server was Wacey. I honestly cant remember if he said his name but he was AWESOME! He looked after us so well but it wasnt over the top either. Like if someone came over to his house. He went through the menu told us how much to order what to order. I love it. I worked at restaurants and I always told ppl honestly if they were ordering too much We had the bread to start with. bomb! So good! Then the spinach dumplings. The sauce was so good Out of all our mains my favorite was the chicken parmesan. My least favorite was the lasagne as it was a little dry. The potatoes had too much paprika. I love pannacotta. This one was a little too sweet for me but the tiramisu was good. Prices were really good too

We had been wanting to try this place! Not disappointed. Trying to experience downtown more before all the new construction hits (although there is still plenty of current construction - lol!). Great time. Excellent service! Great appetizers and very good wine selection. A bit pricey but good serving size and absolutely delicious!

Restaurant week was yummy! We started with spinach dumplings and meatballs. Our dinner was the NY Strip and Chicken Parm. We added the Trenne Bombay Dessert was S'more Pana Cotta and the cannoli. (They were out of the tiramisu) Every course was incredible. I really love this restaurant . The staff is super friendly and I love the ambiance

This has been on my list for a long time, I was just looking for a reason to celebrate. It was worth the wait the wait staff was so kind and explained everything on the menu before ordering, even going as far to make sure I like bitter drinks before putting in my drink order(saved me). They had extended restaurant week so we were able to participate in that as well. We got meatballs, chicken parm, burrata, ravioli, tiramisu and cannoli. Not one food item disappointed us and we will definitely be recommending.

It's my third time here and it's been a while since I visited but just not sure I will bother to come back. Service was generally good throughout the night - and it's a fun location with nice vibe as an old firehouse. We began with the bread with sides and that was the highlight of the meal - bread was delicious, light and fresh, whipped ricotta was phenomenal as was the garlic in oil. Could have easily eaten more of that and our group loved it! Burrata was good, needed a little more something but was good overall. Spinach dumplings were delicious with the right hint of truffle but were lukewarm and temperature was off through the meal. Then we moved to mains and sides / I had the brown butter ravioli. It was 4 large ravioli; not warm enough and definitely not cooked enough. Good pasta should be al dente but these were downright chewy. Beets with mascarpone was good but needed a little more seasoning and it was hard to determine what temperature they were supposed to be , same with carrots. Prices here are exceptional and it allows you to try lots of little dishes for the table First time I ate here it was phenomenal but just not liking temperatures, seasoning and cook on pasta so not a favorite for me I am afraid.

Loved the experience. Unique location in an old firehouse, two story, plenty of cheap parking around the restaurant. TIP: They validate for 50% off parking. The service was helpful, friendly and attentive. I like the changing out of plates and utensils between courses. The food was amazing. We went family style sharing bread plate, meatballs, burrata, and a salad to start. The meatballs were sitting in a rich tomato sauce with fresh basil. The burrata was served with grilled focaccia and tomatoes. The main plates we tried were herb encrusted lamb chops, fettuccine, Trenne Bombay, cacio e pepe, and charred beets. Wow. Loved it all! The lamb chops were cooked perfectly .. medium rare .. and served in a white sauce. The charred beets were tamed by the walnuts and mascarpone. We finished with the tiramisu. Not the traditional lady finger recipe but very good never the less. Cannot wait to go back!

Shut the firehouse front door! This place was amazing! Wacey rocks! Best server ever! The food and the service was outstanding! If you haven't given it a try, you absolutely should. Be sure to make reservations because they book out quickly. We will definitely be back!

    Ricotta Cavatelli
    Melynda S.

A solid choice for Italian in San Antonio. What I ordered: Ricotta Cavatelli (16) - Pork Sausage, Mushroom, Broccoli - Was a little sad to see that the dish seemed to be missing the ricotta. I'm guessing it was in the sauce but the sauce wasn't very cheesy. For being a namesake ingredient I was expecting the dish to be a little more ricotta forward. Aperol Spritz (11) - one of the best aperol spritzes I've had in SA, would absolutely recommend getting one. Service was very good and the restaurant being in an old converted firehouse made for a fun evening.

    Do they have happy hour?

I don't think so. But the bar is super nice and worth your visit. On top of that, the customer service is great.

Truly every person at the table seemed to love what they ordered -- we had a lot of "you have to try this!" moments being passed around the table. One thing I especially appreciated was the Caesar salad. I noticed another review mentioning the anchovy flavor in the dressing as a negative, but in my opinion, that's exactly what made it great. For me a Caesar should have that briny anchovy depth, and this one tasted freshly made and perfectly balanced. It felt authentic and thoughtfully prepared. The restaurant itself is along a quiet area of the River Walk in an old stone building with tons of charm. The ambiance was relaxed and inviting, perfect for a group dinner. As for the food, it was good but not exceptional. I was excited for the Goat Cheese Pizza with balsamic onion, pistachio, and saba. The thin crust, however, was almost too crunchy and a bit tough to eat. The toppings didn't stand out as much as I had hoped, likely because they were overbaked together. Overall, we had a lovely dinner with great service, a charming atmosphere, and good - but not great - food. 4 stars for now. I would return and try again.

The waittress was kind and let us know the kitchen was having some issues so food would be a little delayed between courses. It was about 60 degrees outside and we kindly asked to turn off the outside fans which were on full blast. Once. Then again, and again, and again. After 5 attempts asking various people we gave up and the waitress let us know she couldnt turn them off because their iPad control died. We werent upset at this we were just upset we kept getting different answers and no explanation for our entire 2+ hr meal. We finished the entree and were waiting for the dessert for about 15 minutes until we finally just flagged down a waittress and asked to get the check and desert to go because we were ready to leave. We waited another 10 minutes before someone else brought us our desert but no check. We asked them for the check and then the original waitress came back with our check and another set of deserts. At some point I saw another server who seemed like the manager or supervisor telling another worker to straighten the tables outside so the corners were aligned... needless to say the table alignment was not the issue. Overall just seemed like the restaurant was overwhelmed and there wasn't alot of communication between tables and the staff. It seems the staff was trying their best but the management wasn't handling it well. Would have appreciated more effort into making sure we were taken care of considering the meal for 2 totaled almost 300$. The only reason this isn't a one star is because of the kind waiting staff.

This time I took it easy and only enjoyed a carpaccio and a Cesar salad but still left overly satisfied. I have to say this is HANDS DOWN THE BEST CARPACCIO I'VE EVER HAD. The Cesar dressing, lemon zest, parm, and fried capers really amplified the experience and had me lusting after this dish long after I left. The Cesar Salad was also amazing.
