Very rundown hotel, not worth a price at all I spoke to the Cleaning staff directly asking for more hours and to have my routine they let me know they would I left for a couple of hours came back to my room was so dirty. I called the front desk with the phone in my room and on my cell phone they never answered. I had to go to the person and when I spoke to them, they said someone will come to clean my room in a couple of hours. THEN THEY NEVER CAME

This place has somewhat gone downhill. The place is overly priced for the quality you get. The rooms have not been upgraded for nearly 10 years and you used to get a pass to the Avani spa and now, no longer. The resort fee alone cost $25 on top of the room charge that included s'mores, wifi, board games, etc. Kind of a waste of money if you don't have kids. Not sure this is a place I'll travel again for a getaway, which is a bummer because it's a prime location.

My view from my room at the Abbey resort

I booked 8 months in advance for my nephews wedding. I think they could screw up a 1 car funeral. I requested pool view in the same area as a family member. Then I cxd my Friday more than 30 days in advance. I spoke with Elis 7-20-26. I repeated multiple times cx just Friday I was keeping Saturday. I noticed a refund of my deposit on 7-24-26. I called and spoke to Liz who was rude and said I had to keep both days to keep a reservation of course nothing of the sort said on previous call, I told her I was coming for a wedding and she said it did not matter. I said well I would be happy to give a list of names who currently have Saturday only reservations. She was not happy and said I need to speak to my supervisor. When she came back she appologized and said as a courtesty for their error they would give me a harbor view with 2 queens. I had already had 2 queens and wanted pool side, but at this point I excepted. They were supposed to send a confirmation never did so I had to call again spoke with Arely. Arrival day was even worse. Spoke with so many people like Sarah ,Katherine, Vanessa. They wanted $75 for requesting early check in, some family were told $50 and some $25. What a racket. They kept saying no rooms ready yet but my niece arrived at 11:30 and called us and said she was going to check on her room and then said it was ready and it was the same area I was supposed to be. Then the said the could give me a room on the 2nd floor because it wasn't occupied. I said fine. She said I will text you. 3 1/2 hrs later when mass was over for the wedding I get a text good news your room is ready. I went to check in and I asked where it was. When I got there it was no where near family nor was it harbor view, nor was it pool view, nor was it on the 2nd floor. Here is a picture of the my view. My experience ruined my time at the wedding. I had alot of family members who experienced the same. I would think twice about booking a wedding here.

No signal on the television in the room or at the flick and float.

Went to enjoy with family to "flick and float" where you watch a movie in the pool and signal was lost. Went into the room and no signal on the TV. My family and I were extremely disappointed and no compensation offered or apology for the inconvenience. We were planning on coming back, but we will just stay at lake lawn lodge next time.

First time here and would definitely return . We spent the night here Thanksgiving night and the place was bustling . Staff goes above and beyond . Rooms are quaint and cozy . Coffee shop off of lobby has great service and coffee at reasonable prices

Growing up I remember my mom telling me the Abbey was one of the nicest resorts in or near Lake Geneva so I couldn't wait to go since I love Lake Geneva. I've stayed here twice now, both times after finding a Groupon, and both times we were given rooms in the back of their large complex with views of the parking lot. It would have been nice just once to have a decent view and not such a long walk from the lobby. It was obvious we were being penalized for having Groupons. It's a beautiful property with indoor and outdoor pools and lots of amenities. Both times they were super busy and parking was very difficult. They're about 20 minutes from the town of Lake Geneva which I didn't mind because we drive and it's a lot more peaceful, plus it's close to the beach and other scenic areas. Parking is just challenging if you come in late, and don't have a lot of bags to carry! The rooms were clean and bathrooms looked like they were upgraded. I appreciated the coffee and having a fridge for our leftovers. They have a nice, somewhat expensive restaurant and a decent cafe, but we chose to eat off property after trying both. I'm glad I've experienced staying here but I'm glad there are numerous options for Lake Geneva because I love it there when I need to get away.

If you are looking for a nice getaway with your kids, this could be your spot. There are resort fees for all the amentities offered....fire pit, games, recreation...that could be of interest to you, but don't be fooled by the quoted room price. Can't beat the harbor view rooms either, ask for one. The morning sun off of Fontana lake is gorgeous anytime of the year. We will only rent a room here for use of the Spa facility if we purchase a package deal in November/December. You get more bang for your buck that way...a definite DIY spa experience on a low key weekend. If it's busy, good luck cause there doesn't seem to be a shared understanding of peace and quiet based on our last visit. And call beforehand to see if the hot tub is working - not something you want to miss out on.

Ask the Community - The Abbey Resort

Which part of the resort has nicer rooms? I heard that one area of the resort and the rooms are much worse?

I'm not sure about the inside of the rooms, but there is a much better view if you get one overlooking the marina.

    Is the indoor pool heated?

    Yes

FYI, we're not golfers either. Never swung a club on the course, but the family-friendly amenities and "life at the lake" environment attracted us back every time. What we liked/loved during our latest visit: The beautiful setting. The well-manicured grounds. The dining options (clubhouse food was great). The indoor and outdoor swimming options for the kids. The proximity to downtown Lake Geneva. Our rental condos were very nice. Nice pro-shop. Ice cream for kiddos at the Clubhouse. Beautiful wildlife - deer, turkeys, etc. What we didn't like: There's a strong sense of exclusivity and entitlement amongst the members and staff, and our group also felt an overall feeling of disdain towards us being renters. This was apparent in our interactions with several staff members and owners. Specifically - the older gentleman at the beach guardhouse who firmly enforced the parking regulations for renters ("go park by the clubhouse") and even suggested I drop off my toddler children (by themselves) at the beach and then go park. Other family members had unfortunate run-ins with him as well. Our children weren't allowed into the petting zoo at the beach. There was a large group of elderly women who had us removed from the snack shop because they "had the space reserved to play bridge." No signs on the tables. But our kids and family were forced into the restaurant to finish their lunches. Then... some of these women tried to come and take chairs (that we were using) from our table because there wasn't enough seating for them to play bridge, hurling some snarky comments at us along the way. We received a lot more cold glares pushing us out rather than warm smiles welcoming us in. Finally, and unfortunately, several members in our group commented on the extreme lack of diversity within this resort - primarily among the members. Also - look out for raccoons in the trash dumpsters at night! We enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. Will we return? We'd consider it, but some of the aforementioned items may give us pause.
