Very knowledgeable dealer. Went to sell an item. While we waited looked around and they have many quality & beautiful items for sale.

Typically I don't do reviews but I really felt compelled to today. My sister, our mom and I decided to go on a day of antiquing and our first stop was here. I will say they do have an impressive amount of jewelry and their art selection was beautiful. However, our experiences were completely soured by the owner. We were by the corner near the register looking at their COSTUME jewelry. The cabinet did not happen to be locked and there was no sign on the door explicitly asking customers not to go in. A guy who I now realize was her husband kept poking his head in between our shoulders. At that point I thought it was just a guy with no concept of personal space. I now understand he was checking to see what we were doing as if we could steal with all the cameras around. He did not say anything to us immediately and I think at that point he told his wife to say something so she proceeds to very loudly scold us in front of her staff and the other customer in the store. She did apologize to my sister, however, there was no reason to behave the way she did especially when you depend on other people to make a living. I hope they can at least put signs to ensure there are no miscommunications in the future. read more

I called to get a get what the commission was on my 14 k braclers. The owner told me 97% of the spot price. I did the calculations and came up with the price. I get there and she changes the commission to 93% of golds current spot price. We do the math and she pulls out a sheet of paper with the price they pay for 14 k based on Gram price. Nobody would show me the sheet. I do the calculation and the price would be $87.92 after 93% of the sot price commission which came out to over $6000. The lady owner looks at her sheet of paper for what they pay for 14k gold. Unbelievably she offers $78 a gram Which lowers the price by $1000 to $5000. My calculations were correct. Her piece of paper was taking a 15% commission. She says I have to make money ( by cheating me). I get up to leave and she flashes $5200 cash. For me it's no deal when you steal. read more

I have overstock inventory and I called and asked it they might be interested in some item. They asked that I send pictures. I received the following response "Hello, you have some beautiful pieces. We would be interested in seeing the presidential glass set, lighters and silver pieces in person. Would you be able to bring them in? If so no appointment is needed and you are welcome to come in anytime we are open from 10 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday except Thursdays when we are open until 6." I brought all the items they requested and was quickly dismissed as having junk. Everything they asked for was no. Why? Why wasted my time? I was hoping to make enough of these items to pay for my service dog's dental cleanings. I received $8 for the plated silver items. It was not a great experience, however the dog was really nice. read more

At first glance this store looks great, floor to ceiling packed with antiques. ***However, as soon as I started walking around there was a salesperson following my every step and staring at me. They were so close it was extremely uncomfortable. While looking at some jewelry on a shelf I was more than shocked by what I saw. Prominently displayed, there was a gold necklace with an eagle and SWASTIKA on it. I understand that some negative aspects of world history can sometimes intertwine with antiques (ex. Colonialism), but a swastika, seriously?! Selling a piece of jewelry containing the most evil symbol in human history is unforgivable to me. Also, who do they even think will buy it? Eva Braun's ghost? Anyway, if you like being hovered over and are a big fan of the Third Reich you'll love this place. read more

We stopped in just to browse. The shoppe has so many items it is almost impossible to see everything. Every nook and cranny is filled with items. THe store is very small and there were a handful of customers and workers in the store. We consistently felt as if we were in someone's way and had to move aside for them to pass. They were kind enough to call me to let me know that their brick & mortar store was within driving distance of my home & that I could save the shipping costs if I came in to pick up the ring. My ring needed work (resizing, engraving, year change) and Gerlinde took care of that for me at a very reasonable cost. I asked my wife to stop by with a box of various items. There were Army uniforms from the Korean War, old stamps, baseball cards, very old hand bags and various other items we had come across. We didn't know what we had and were looking for some professional advise and possibly looking to sell some of the items. My wife went there with our 7 year old son and the Owner, an older man, gave my wife bad looks and went on judging her without looking through the items saying that they only have nice things at his store. He was rude, insensitive and doesn't know how to treat people. My wife came home crying and I had to refrain from going to the store and giving him a piece of my mind and a lesson on how to treat people. I had been there before and had been help by the female owner and never had any issues. This place needs to understand that the people that keep them in business are the people of Glenview and surrounding suburbs. They lost my business and I will make sure everyone knows of their horrible way of treating people. read more

This shop has a beautiful selection of vintage jewelry and art. I find the Austrian owners quite charming! Btw if you read the persons review commenting on the sale of a "black face" statue, then you should know that these statues were actually used in the Underground Railroad. They were used to point people in the right direction and even signal a friendly home. The statues look like stereotypes in order to subvert intentions. That doesn't mean racists can't get there hands on them and poke fun, but just know the history. read more

There are so many good things to say about A-1 Antiques & Porcelain. I'll start with the owner - it's family owned and the husband and wife are genuinely nice people. They've been there forever and have a good, honest business. Next, their prices are great. I've been there as a seller of coins and jewelry more than anything else. I shop around and always find that they give me the best price. Their inventory of antiques, jewelry and porcelain is vast and beautiful. It's always fun to look around. I went there yesterday for the first time with my friend. I haven't been there in a long time. Both of us were extremely impressed of the place and what they have in their store. The owner is so nice and talked to us for along time regarding what my friend wanted to sell and just talking in general. What a nice, wonderful lady. I just came back from visiting this place, to show them, seek advice, information on some things I came across. I went there and the older Gentleman was very rude. The minute I walked in, he asked me why I had brought the things I did. To look around at all the nice stuff he had and that the things I had did not belong there. I had never step foot inside the store and went their because someone else suggested I try them. I expected to be treated as any other customers, who have given them a great review. I would have like to have browse all their antiques and collectables but felt unwelcome. He is the owner as I confirmed with the other ladies who help in his store. This company listed 8 Reed and Barton "Joan of Arc" knives for $95 + $10 postage. I purchased them. The next day I got a note from this company stating they refunded my money and sent me a new invoice. The second invoice showed a total cost of $210......double the cost. They refused to honor our original agreement. These people are not to be trusted. Stay away. read more
