Tried for second time and threw food in the garbage. I know egg salad has Mayonnaise but this is disgusting!

A copy of my Uber satisfaction rating and comments that the manager Katie LIED & reported
    Jasmine R.

This afternoon I had a Uber pick up at this location. As I walk in, I'm barely greeted by a young lady who later identified herself as the manager named Katie over the phone. I said to her I have a Uber pick up and before she can even give me the bag or reach for the bag (The order was not in sight) she abruptly asked me to confirm the order. Mind you the order wasn't on the counter it wasn't on a shelf or a stand visible to me she had to move at least 5-8 ft to retrieve the order! I immediately say to her once you give me the order I will confirm it. I explained to her briefly that I need to have the order in order to confirm it! ( Uber and the customers who order through the app are constantly tracking you)! The moment you confirm the order they expect movement on the app for you departuring. if I don't have the order I can't move on the map that cost me my thumbs up and my tip) TIME IS $$$$! SHE NEVER EXPLAINS TO ME LIKE OH I'M GETTING THE ORDER I JUST NEED YOU TO CONFIRM BEFORE I CAN HANDLE TO YOU SHE NEVER SAYS THAT! As I'm leaving I state to her not everyone is stealing people food some of us are out here working hard working 12 hours until they kick you off the app in order to make money for our families. She tries to say something but I'm already halfway out the door so I just wave her off with my hand. I was never rude to her, I never was disrespect to her, and I was never unprofessional. I just communicated the fact with her that the order is not in my presence or visible for me to see so I can't confirm it. She goes on the Uber app and gives me a thumb down and lies and said that I was unprofessional and rude to her, when I never was. About an hour later I give the store a call to speak to the manager (at this time I was not aware that she was the manager). SHE then stated to me that she was (the manager) and basically told me she didn't like WHAT I SAID to her so she lied on me and reported that I was rude to her WHEN I wasn't RUDE! Oh yeah I recorded the conversation BECAUSE fool me on shame on you! Just because you don't like what somebody says don't mean that they're rude!!! I WAS PROFESSIONAL AND POLITE I JUST STATED TO HER THAT I WILL CONFIRM ONCE YOU GIVE ME THE ORDER AND I LET HER KNOW NOT EVERYBODY IS STEALING PEOPLE'S FOOD! I FELT THE NEED TO STATE THIS BECAUSE I FELT LIKE SHE WAS PROFILING ME BECAUSE I'M A YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN. I work hard and I explain to her that I had a 99% satisfaction rate and she brought it down by reporting that I was rude and giving me a thumbs down just because she didn't like what I said to her, which is so unprofessional and morally it's just wrong! Each and every day in this world you might come across someone that you don't care for or like what they say that doesn't mean that you can lie on them or try to destroy their character! SHE THEN STATED THAT SHE WILL GO ON A APP AND TRY TO UNDO THE THUMBS UP DOWN AND SHE WAS SORRY, A LITTLE TOO LATE GIRL I GOT TO DO A 100 MORE DELIVERIES TO GET RID OF THAT RATING!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!!

Tastebuds Deli is a gourmet Italian delicatessen that opened in North Haven, Connecticut in 1997. It is located in the town center, right across the street from the Town Green. For several years it was owned by Antonio Maturo. Originally an employee for the Public Works, Maturo was a frequent customer at the deli before deciding to purchase it himself in 2006. The deli offers a wide variety of sandwiches including subs, hard rolls, wraps and paninis. When it comes to deli meats, Tastebuds only uses Boar's Head Brand low sodium products made with no preservatives and no additives. Italian staples like marinara sauce, chicken cutlets, eggplant parmesan and meatballs are all made fresh on the premises. The deli also offers Breakfast Sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, and various types of side salads. In addition to the deli, Tastebuds also offers a full catering service featuring appetizers, hot dishes, wrapped platters and party subs. Maturo sold the business in 2015 and it has passed through multiple ownerships since then. In spite of this, the quality at Tastebuds has remained the same. The current owner since July 2022 is Bryan Gutierrez. My wife and I have been getting tasty sandwiches from Tastebuds for years. It's our go-to for deli sandwiches, and it's been very popular with locals for almost 25 years. We recently stopped by to grab a couple of sandwiches to take on the road with us for a weekend getaway. I ordered the "Napoli" (chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, spinach, roasted red peppers, balsamic glaze) on a hard roll and my wife ordered the "Mel's Chicken" (fried chicken cutlet, lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, American/Cheddar cheeses, honey mustard, mayo) on a hard roll. These are our favorite sandwiches to get from Tastebuds! They are so delicious! We hope that Tastebuds will stick around for years to come.

The food was delicious!!! Don't sleep on the Mexican food specials! Everything was fresh, made in house. The staff is amazing and friendly as well. Service was quick for it being so busy. This is a must try if you are in the area. Lots of beverage and chip options. Has a few seats but in a location where you can bring a blanket and sit in the park right across the street. After reading a lot of the old negative reviews I feel it is important to note that it is under newer ownership!

Another gem within walking distance of me that I never noticed. Before an hour drive to Granby, we needed to get some food so we popped in. I got the veggie panini with extra avocado and cheese. It was so well toasted and tasted so good!! I'll be back here.

    Philly cheesesteak

I'm so glad I found this place. It's small but definitely worth the stop. I have a jobsite down the road and stopped in for lunch. I got their Philly cheesesteak and man it's so delicious. I'm coming back here!

Marco's Italian sub - so good!

I drive past each morning on my way to work, and finally decided to give it a shot for lunch. I ordered for myself and a coworker ahead of time and picked up between the time range I was told. It was ready right on time and I was cashed out right away. Both of us enjoyed our sandwiches (Mel's chicken on a roll and Marco's Italian sub), and we'll definitely go back again in the future.

    Stale bread

Disappointing. This place used to be great and has went completely down hill. My grilled chicken Caesar salad was completely skimped with the amount of dressing and had NO croutons. It's too bad because the chicken in it was really good. I ordered deli meat and they gave me the wrong kind so I had to go back inside and get the correct one. Then it seemed like a lot less then I had ordered, but I didn't bother going back because they were busy. I got the sticky bread that I used to get all the time there. It was absolutely disgusting. It was so stale that not even popping it in the microwave could fix it. Not to mention they forgot to add whatever makes the sticky bread sticky. Just awful. I should have went back in and got my money back. The only reason I'm not giving one star was because the meat quality is good. Everything else is just not worth it for me. I probably won't be going back. They need to get it together.. especially selling stale bread. I understand they probably aren't selling much of it because of covid but that's no excuse.

Honey ham, swiss, lettuce, tomato n mayo. Basic, but, so good!

Tastebuds is a great lil deli. It was a lil busy, but well handled. I ordered honey ham, swiss, lettuce, tomato n mayo on a hardroll.. YUM! Was only 5.85. So very fresh and loaded. Clean, friendly n organized. Fresh salads to go too!

Everyone that had the Pizza thought it was a very good. Side of french fries was very large. Two kids devoured it by the time I got to take a picture. My mother had this spaghetti and meatballs and liked it a lot. She enjoyed the meatballs himself as they had a lot of flavor and she could see the ingredients inside such as parsley and garlic. My sister enjoyed her angel hair and Alfredo sauce as well as they both enjoyed the soup. Super salad comes with your dinner and as you can see, the soup was very large. My husband had a house salad, and he added blackened shrimp, which came with a good amount of shrimp, avocado, raisins, and almonds. He liked the salad very much. I ordered a special the gnocchi with marinara sauce, and burrata . Overall, the sauce was very good, but I disliked how much sauce was given. For me, I felt like it was too much sauce and my pasta was swimming in it. I would request less sauce the next time I go. Overall, the price was not bad at all. We all enjoy our meal and every single one of us brought food home. Oh, on the sidenote, a good amount of their soups are made vegetarian. This is difficult to find so if you are looking for a vegetarian soup, they told me the escarole and beans, pasta, , pasta fagiol and the lentils were all done.

If you…read morenotice the sign, you'll see they've rotated the lower case "a" in "Meat" so it's upside down. Think of it as a culinary warning that they don't do things the normal way. I've had two sandwiches from Meat and Co. on two separate visits in 2025. The first was the Haute Tuna Melt. The tuna salad itself was good. It has some hot pepper and chive flavor. The tuna sandwich was on a panini-pressed ciabatta roll. I prefer some type of grilled sliced bread, which I think is more common, for a tuna melt. But that's fine. The biggest miss for me was the cheese. The American Cheese was not at all melted. So it's really just a tuna fish sandwich with American Cheese, Lettuce and Tomato. Good for what it was, but it wasn't a Tuna Melt. The second was The Rick Reuben. It must be more "Rick" than "Reuben". because it is the least "Reuben" Reuben sandwich I've ever had. It had pastrami, which is acceptable for a Reuben. That was about it. Instead of kraut, they had a mild red cabbage slaw. Instead of Swiss, they had cheddar. Instead of grilled rye bread, it was on a long panini-pressed pretzel roll. Admittedly, I didn't pay careful attention to the menu description because Reubens usually fall into one of a small number of types, and I like them all. Although, the online menu I saw did not reference the pretzel roll. This sandwich was too far away from any accepted form of Reuben to be called a Reuben. If it had been called a Pretzel Pastrami Melt, which is far more accurate, I wouldn't have ordered it. It was fine for it was. The pastrami was average though. Given how much I like the other East Rock Market vendors, I'm unlikely to return. If you go, pay close attention to the menu and maybe ask questions. 3.25 Stars

Jamshed worked in the fishing industry as a young man, but dreamed of working in the restaurant business. He came to the United States in 1989 and worked for a vending machine business. He finally entered the food industry in 2000 when he started "Mughali Foods": a food cart that prepared Indian and Pakistani food. In 2003, Jamshed became the owner of Noor Mahal, an Indian restaurant in Orange, but continued to run the food cart. He sold the restaurant three years later to focus exclusively on the food cart operation. He later dubbed it "Ali Baba's Fusion" and shifted the menu to halal Middle Eastern cuisine. At one point, Jamshed even had six Ali Baba food carts operating around New Haven. The Kalids opened a brick & mortar location in Hamden in 2014. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, the couple cut down their food cart division to a single cart and put most of the focus on the brick & mortar location which was rebranded as "Ali Baba's Kitchen". The menu was also augmented to focus on healthier food options. A second location opened in North Haven in 2025. My wife and I recently ordered take-out from Ali Baba's North Haven location for New Year's Eve. We had previously sampled food from the Hamden location, as well as their New Haven food cart, but this was our first time getting food from the North Haven location. We were excited to try because it's only a five minute drive from our house. The newer location is nice but it is a bit on the smaller side. I would imagine that most of their business is take-out as opposed to dine-in. I ordered the "Bites Chick Bowl" (lemon chicken & beef gyro served on a base of rice & pita strips, topped w/ lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, chickpeas, cucumbers, feta cheese, drizzled w/ ABK sauce), my wife had the "Running Foodie Bowl" (ginger chicken & chicken kebab on basmati rice & pita strips, topped w/ tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, feta cheese, and ABK sauce), and we also shared some "Samosas" (with tamarind sauce and chana masala). As I've stated in a previous review, we think that the food at Ali Baba's is sensational and we plan to order from them again and again!
