The Mel's Chicken Sandwich has crispy and flavorful chicken cutlet and the roll was crunchy and fresh! I really loved this sandwich, it's simple and delicious and it doesn't get better than that. Tastebuds Deli is a gourmet Italian delicatessen that opened in North Haven, Connecticut in 1997. It is located in the town center, right across the street from the Town Green. For several years it was owned by Antonio Maturo. Originally an employee for the Public Works, Maturo was a frequent customer at the deli before deciding to purchase it himself in 2006. The deli offers a wide variety of sandwiches including subs, hard rolls, wraps and paninis. When it comes to deli meats, Tastebuds only uses Boar's Head Brand low sodium products made with no preservatives and no additives. Italian staples like marinara sauce, chicken cutlets, eggplant parmesan and meatballs are all made fresh on the premises. The deli also offers Breakfast Sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, and various types of side salads. In addition to the deli, Tastebuds also offers a full catering service featuring appetizers, hot dishes, wrapped platters and party subs. Maturo sold the business in 2015 and it has passed through multiple ownerships since then. In spite of this, the quality at Tastebuds has remained the same. The current owner since July 2022 is Bryan Gutierrez. My wife and I have been getting tasty sandwiches from Tastebuds for years. It's our go-to for deli sandwiches, and it's been very popular with locals for almost 25 years. We recently stopped by to grab a couple of sandwiches to take on the road with us for a weekend getaway. I ordered the "Napoli" (chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, spinach, roasted red peppers, balsamic glaze) on a hard roll and my wife ordered the "Mel's Chicken" (fried chicken cutlet, lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, American/Cheddar cheeses, honey mustard, mayo) on a hard roll. This was ordered via UberEats. The CrossFit Salad was ordered to have extra onions, extra raspberry vinaigrette dressing and utensils. I'm giving this restaurant a 3 because the items typed for notes asking for extra dressing and utensils weren't delivered. Let me start by saying that my office loves Tastebuds. We would probably order lunch from here everyday, if someone would pick up the phone. Also, they offer delivery, but only when they person is there, so it's spotty at best. I would love to see them hire 1 or 2 part timers for the lunch rush. I don't mind picking up, because it gives me a chance to see what goodies are in the cooler. We love the Buffalo Chicken Mac Salad. The sandwiches here are great and the prices aren't too bad for the area. You cant go wrong with The Church Street Reuben, Mel's Chicken or Lolly's Love. These are a few of the top contenders in our office. If you ask me, there is nothing better than the Tuna Bomb! The tuna is perfect (not too much mayo) and the pepperoni, hot cherry peppers and pickles give it a spicy, salty punch. It is such a filling sandwich that I have only ever ordered the hard roll. If you have some time to kill, they have a few tables at the deli. Grab a seat and enjoy the views out of their large windows. If you're in a rush, like my office usually is, order ahead and double check your order...we've had a few missing items. read more

Disappointing. This place used to be great and has went completely down hill. My grilled chicken Caesar salad was completely skimped with the amount of dressing and had NO croutons. It's too bad because the chicken in it was really good. I ordered deli meat and they gave me the wrong kind so I had to go back inside and get the correct one. Then it seemed like a lot less then I had ordered, but I didn't bother going back because they were busy. I got the sticky bread that I used to get all the time there. It was absolutely disgusting. It was so stale that not even popping it in the microwave could fix it. Not to mention they forgot to add whatever makes the sticky bread sticky. Just awful. I should have went back in and got my money back. The only reason I'm not giving one star was because the meat quality is good. Everything else is just not worth it for me. I probably won't be going back. They need to get it together.. especially selling stale bread. I understand they probably aren't selling much of it because of covid but that's no excuse. read more

This place used to be a local hidden gem. They used to have very good sandwiches at very reasonable prices. Apparently they recently changed owners and the new owner decided to increase the prices, which I'm fine with. What I'm not fine with is the fact that I just spent $9 on a small steak and cheese that was filled with steak-umms. The menu says thinly sliced top round steak but this was steak-umms. I've been going to this place for at least 10 years and it has always been good but I will never go back because of this. Tip to the owner: If you're going to serve steak-umms in your cheese steaks just take it off the menu. read more

Went there today and asked for the bread they get from n.y. the snotty girl behind the counter (apparently an 11 year vet at taste buds) told me they have never had that bread there ever. So I described the bread and she told me again how long she has worked there. So I said no prob nevermind. Really didn't feel like it was worth an argument. So I place my order on regular sub bread and while I'm waiting I see her looking back at me and then whispered into other coworkers ear and then laugh. She finished making my subs brings them over drops them on counter and walks away. A little word of advice for you. With that kind of customer service you just lost 4 people that go there all the time. I was told a long time ago if you please one person they will tell 2 if you give bad customer service to 1 person you will lose 10. May you work there for ever. read more

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon looking for a classic deli sandwich. I ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich while by boyfriend went with a turkey club. Stopped in last Saturday early afternoon for a quick lunch with my fiance. It was a beautiful day so we wanted to go somewhere we could possibly sit outside, but also somewhere nice and quick for a sandwich. This place is great for a quick stop, but do not expect anything special to write books about. It is your typical neighborhood deli. I really wish they had more seating outside (only 2 small tables - they could probably fit 3 more but perhaps there are some regulations). The staff is nice and the prices are fair - there were a lot of people there that day ordering food, but luckily it didn't seem like anyone had to wait too long. I ordered a panini from their "saturday specials" menu. It was delicious! Only had prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and roasted peppers - I asked for pesto mayo and they accommodated it.
