I had to write a review because i am so pleased with the quality of Antonia's alteration work. I had a tailor i was used to going to but it became inconvenient to get there. I was so hesitant to try someone new. I gave 2 pairs of jeans and 2 trousers and it was absolutely phenomenal work, they dont look like they were altered at all, the hems are perfect, they fit just right. Done with Anton's....For the past 7 months I have been yessed to death by their management about missing items following a system integration: "yes, everything has been reconciled", "yes, everything is accounted for". Well, last week, despite going there every 1-2 weeks for dry cleaning pickups for years, one of their employees (new) 'found' stuff that was dropped off in July and August of last year. So much for their integration. So much for their reconciliation. So much for their reassurances. I don't know about you, but I'm a little bit of a last-minute person when it comes to travel prep. I'm at our annual member event in Boston this week, and received instructions before our last member event - over a year ago - that the acceptable uniform for employee volunteers is khaki, black, or navy pants. Well, I was frantically trying on and buying khakis on Saturday afternoon knowing I was leaving town on Monday at 7am. I was also buying khakis that were 6" too long, given that I am essentially a midget. I had no luck trying to get my new pants shortened before I left, so I had to try to find a tailor here. Once I write my review of the Westin Waterfront, you'll realize this was not an easy task, but thankfully, I ended up being referred to this small, family-owned dry cleaner/tailor. I left my hotel at about 2:45 p.m. and I was back at my hotel by 4:00, factoring in a good 20 minute walk each way. I paid $16 to get two pairs of pants hemmed and looking perfect, and while I waited, I got to talk to Nick, who started Sturgis when he came to America from Greece over 35 years ago. My family members have used this cleaners for dresses, dry cleaning and some alterations. I, in the past, had seldomly used them for dry cleaning dress clothes and suits. Most recently, in two different occasions, I dropped off a 2-pc. suit and dress shirts. Both times, I was told a specific date and time for pickup. So, on pickup day, I went to pick up my suit and shirts. But, only my shirts and suit pants were ready. My suit jacket was missing and then finally found (after my frustration took the best of me and I began to demand some sense of urgency in finding it). No sincere apology or compensation (for the inconvenience of having to come back the next day for pickup) was given for the error on their part. Even worse, it happened again the next time I used them for the same service. And like Deja Vous, the same debacle...they lose my suit jacket. So, needless to say, I was fuming!!! Oh, I forgot to also mention, both times when I asked to speak to the manager or supervisor, there wasn't one present or available. I was told instead the owner is the manager and she "owns a lot of different locations and she doesn't just stay at one all day". So, no manager or supervisor? "No". Also, the first time, when they finally found my suit jacket, I left in a fury, so I didn't notice the colored thread remnants (not from my black suit jacket), lint and a button had been removed and replaced, but not in it's original position. I called and reported it, but got no where with them. So, as the saying goes... Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. For the same exact thing to happen twice tells me just how irresponsible they are and how they don't take pride in their work. I recently had a situation at Anton's - A sweater of mine went missing. Mistakes do happen, but I think how a problem like this is handled makes all of the difference. I was extremely pleased with how they handled this issue. Day of, I received a call from the district supervisor, and she, with the utmost professionalism, explained to me how they were going to handle this problem. I was a sturgis customer for years. I decided to give Anton's a try after new management. my experience has not been the greatest. They once gave me my order with its hood missing. If I didn't go back and show them my receipt, they would have never realized they forgot to give it to me. I have also been overcharged 3 times. I was told the manger would reach out to me and they never did. When I came in to pickup, I had to remind them I was still waiting on a call from there manger for a refund. i am very specific of my wants and needs when I drop off. There shouldn't be a reason why there's always something wrong with my order when I pick up. The employees need to be more attentive and the management needs to do a better job. The service does not match up with the prices this place charges for drycleaning. I expect better. read more

I just picked up a bunch of shirts and pants that I dropped off a couple of days ago. They damaged my favorite red jeans - there is a large smelly circle on one leg and dark, dirty stains on another leg. See pictures. The jeans have a strong chemical smell of acetone. A bunch of shirts had slightly dirty/colorless finish and they also had the same chemical smell (although milder). Never will go there again. When it was Sturgis, they were the best. On the eve of my wedding.... I discovered a make up stain on my wedding dress. No one (and trust me we called everyone) would take my dress on such short notice... until we found Sturgis. On Saturday monring we dropped the dress off and in 1 hour, the dry cleaner had my dress clean... and the stain and my bridezilla meltdown was gone. I can't thank the manager/owner enough for calmly suggesting that we have breakfast around the corner and he would take care of me - for only $45 bucks! Sturgis is my go-to place for both dry cleaning and alterations. Turn around is quick on clothes, and everything I've had cleaned there (from silk shirts to coats) has come back in perfect condition. In addition, they do a great job at tailoring. No appointments needed, just step into the changing room and they'll pin up your garment for alterations. In just a few days (depending on you urgency) it is ready to be picked up! If you just want a plain hem on a new pair of jeans it is a remarkably cheap $10 and expertly done. More complicated alterations like taking in the sides of a dress left it fitting perfectly. All said, Sturgis is my one stop shop for cleaning and adjusting my favorite clothes. read more

The staff at Sturgis could not be friendlier. I went in last week for the first time. They set me up in their system, recorded how starched (??) I wanted my shirts, and explained to me their turn around time. Drop off by 11... pick up after 3 the same day? WOW! My last place took 2-3 days at the very least and was way more expensive! Sturgis broke my dress! I was in a panic, and went to Sturgis for an overnight turn around of a gown for a black tie wedding. Went all the way to New York for the wedding to find the zipper did not open. Thanks a lot Sturgis. I literally had to shimmy myself into the dress just to get it on for the night. I spent the wedding worried the zipper would completely detach as I got my groove on (fire burnin). Awful. I wish they had told me they broke the zipper and saved me the stress. This is the only dry cleaners I will go to! It's a bonus that they are open so early and I can hit them before work! The owner is incredible and takes customer service to the next level-today he helped me carry out over 20 pieces of dry cleaning to my car across the street, because he saw that I had my puppy with me and it would be difficult. I love my shirts. Getting them professionally cleaned makes them almost like new. I've been going to Sturgis since we moved into South Boston. It's convenient to our home, and I usually skoot over (on a scooter) with the dirties, then pick them up (delivered in "box" form, not on a hanger), and it's an easy skoot home. Always quick. Sturgis does a good job at the cleaning, but... Today, for the fifth time in the last two years, my shirts were on hangers, not "in the box". 15 shirts on a 50cc scooter in Southie on a windy day. I am very new to the area and having come from an area where my dry cleaners was literally across the street from me was fantastic. So finding that Sturgis is right across the street I had to give them a shot. Dry cleaning is one of those things you always forget to pick up and if it's out of your way after a long day you aren't going to go back out and get it. Well I was pleasantly surprised with there service. The first time I went in it dropped off my boyfriends shirts and a pea-coat. He was surprised by the price although I wasn't (as he is use to wearing scrubs to work and I wear dress pants LOL). The dry cleaning was decent. My next visit was to drop off to pairs of pants to be hemmed the very SLIGHTEST bit. I recently had a car fire and my work clothes were in there. The bottoms of my pants were seared and being 5'9" I don't really have any extra inches to spare on my pants, let along the $$$ to go and buy all new stuff. I explained this to Peter Sturgis himself who handles all alterations along side little Nona that is in there with her sewing machine. I was pleasantly surprised with the job and it was about $18-20 per pant for the hem. Ok...it is what is it. Well this last time I went in with a bridesmaids dress (that is lined as well) and a pair of pants to be hemmed. Was again greeted by Peter and picked up my dress this weekend. Fit like a glove. Curt and no smiles. Not bad service, but it feels like they don't want to be there. -Some repairs seems haphazardly done. The hook from the hook & eye closure on my slacks got ripped out by accident. It was sewed back on with stitches all over and doesn't seem professional or sturdy. At ten bucks for such a simple repair, expected more. - No price signs last I went in or online on their website. My relationship with Sturgis is built on a solid foundation of convenience: When I moved to the West Broadway area of Southie, I needed a dry cleaner. I'd like to say I compared different dry cleaners for their quality and pricing. I didn't. I went to Sturgis because it was 2 blocks from my apartment. I still don't know if I'm overpaying compared to others in the area, but I don't really care. They get my shirts cleaned and pressed - with an incredible same-day turnaround time and come back in great condition. Not that I've ever taken advantage of that, seeing as I'm too lazy to drop it off in the morning. For early birds, they open at 6am. I wish they would stay open a bit later - they close at 6pm, so I'm always in a rush to make sure I drop off shirts before they close. Ask for one of their dry cleaning bags, and dropping off is a breeze - the bag is coded with your name and information, letting you drop off items in seconds. Note: they place a sticker on your front shirt tail to identify the shirts. I don't particularly care, but some of you may. read more

I had called a bunch of places, and Sturgis' was the only place who could get the proper alterations done in a day. The dress came out great. I'm a dickwad when it comes to dry cleaners. I'm also anal, idiosyncratic, habitual, and high maintenance. I expect my dry cleaner to respect and honor these faults - like therapy, I'm paying for it, after all. I mean, I want a consistently solid relationship with the person that cleans my clothes on a weekly basis. This place is like an abusive relationship, however. At first it embraces my quirks, but then totally abuses my trust and ignores my wants and needs. Don't get me wrong; every so often it'll get it right (and its prices are okay). For example: flat front pants = no crease; dress pants = crease; dress shirts = no starch, heavy press. Damn. I just got annoyed at myself reading that. Anyway, the other times (about 1 in 4) when it totally screws up and creases something that's flat kill me. I pick up dry cleaning only on weekends, so I lose another week without those pants. Pisses me off. This has been going on for more than two years. I should break up with this place. But, like that abusive relationship, the owner will say that he's sorry, that he loves my knits and wool suit jackets, and that it'll never happen again. And, I, in turn, will come back with open arms full of forgiveness, only to be let down yet, again, three weeks later. Here's the kicker - the women behind the counter are very attractive and nice - at first. That's just false advertising, though. Soon, once you're in this place's embrace, they'll ignore you and be all, like: What do you want? Is next month good? Are you done? It's all I'm really cute this and I'm really cute that, but I'm still bitchy this and bitchy that. Regardless, they are cute, and, they were nice to me that one time. Maybe again? No? I don't know. I think I'll give it another chance. I dont ever get anything dry cleaned cuz I have a job where I can wear jeans and t shirts and a northface and never think twice BUT my boyfriend wears a shirt and tie every day so instead of me washing and ironing them myself I ship them off to Sturgis. They are quick, the girls are nice and they never forget that Tim Tim has sensitive irish skin so they cant starch them or he'll get hives or something. I recently took two pair of designer jeans here to be hemmed. I was a little nervous because I'd never been before and it seems to have mixed reviews. Plus, the jeans weren't exactly cheap, so I would not have been very happy if they weren't done right. Most other places I called wanted to charge $25/ea. (and a whopping $45/ea. at a place in Wellesley...). I was willing to take the risk at Sturgis since they were only $14/ea. I'm happy to report that they did a phenomenal job and I will definitely go back the next time I need something altered. They were hemmed exactly how I wanted, and they were quick. I could not have been more pleased with my experience at Sturgis. I called this morning to talk to someone about a small makeup stain I discovered on my wedding dress (I am getting married in a week). Peter told me to come in and he would have a look. My fear was that the entire dress would have to get dry cleaned because the solution would make a stain on the stain... (that is what I was told at another dry cleaner). Peter took it right to the back while I waited and was able to remove the stain in 5 minutes by using an non oil based cleaner. He was so great - he could tell I was freaking out- He brought it out showed my the area and told me there was no charge. I plan to go back here again for sure. I bought a suit for my son in n.y for an event and I had just came back to Boston a couple hours before the event. We had 2 hours to get ready... Oops his suit pants were too long... I quickly drove to Sturgis. I am pretty friendly with Peter. He was closing in 20 minutes and he said that it would take a day to take the suit pants in. He saw my face frown, and he asked whats going on. I explained. He did not hesitate to help. He told my son to quickly put the pants on, he measured them to my sons legs, jumped on a sewing machine and began to make our night better. He fixed them up perfectly.
