This place is around the corner from my apartment and decided to give it a try. Awful idea! My dry cleaning was not ready on the day they originally told me and took a week to finally get it done. I also asked if they could de-pill a sweater I gave them and they didn't even attempt to. I'm honestly not even sure it was washed since it still had a stain on the arm. Also cost me over $50 for 5 items!! I asked for how much it was cost and she could not give me an answer. Never coming again way too over priced for sub par service. read more

The French Cleaners did a great job cleaning my wedding dress after my wedding this year. It had a good amount of wear from walking around the city, but after the cleaning it is as good as new. The turnaround was quick, and the price was less than most other quotes I had gotten from other cleaners. I also appreciate that they do the cleaning in-house (a lot of other cleaners ship wedding dresses to be cleaned in NY which I don't fully understand). read more

French Cleaners Saved Me From A Drapery Disaster! Several years ago, I saw a picture in a magazine featuring the living room of Goldie Hawn's NYC apartment. My eyes were immediately drawn to her draperies which were simple, casual and yet with an air of elegance. I loved them so I tore the picture out of the magazine and had them custom made for my living and dining rooms. Recently I hired another cleaning company to remove, clean and replace my drapes. I warned the man who came to remove them that they would be tricky to rehang, due to the intertwining of the two colors, wrapped around the drapery rod. He thought that it would not be problematic. When he returned with the cleaned drapes, he had forgotten how they looked originally (we had no pictures). I described to him the sequence of colors and he spent an agonizing hour attempting to achieve it without success. He finally gave up, telling me that I was wrong and it was absolutely impossible to do based upon my description. The result was disasterous and I was devastated. A couple weeks later, I called the French Cleaners, to come and take down another pair of drapes that needed cleaning. A young man named Mark came in and before removing the drapes, he took pictures. After removing them he took a needle and thread to repair a loose Velcro. I was so impressed by his professionalism that I showed him my experience with the previous cleaner. He inspected the drapes and said that he thought he could fix them as I had described. My confidence in Mark was not misplaced. He took the drapes to his shop and a few days later he returned with Phil. They rehung the drapes just as they were meant to be, steam pressed them and they look like new. I am so grateful for their expertise and willingness to take on my problem. Thank you Mark & Phil. You are the best! read more

I'm not sure why I didn't check my garments before leaving the cleaner since it was the first time I used this place, but I was in a hurry. Took a week to get my cleaning, and one if my sweaters came back full of holes -- not sure what caused them, they look like small rips. Had to toss completely. The other sweater has one similar hole but in a less noticeable spot on the back. Two of my favorite sweaters ruined. Obviously never going back here. Looks like a popular place for shirts, I would not give them regular dry cleaning. An expensive loss on my part -- first the cleaning bill, then two ruined sweaters. read more

I brought my favorite dress to the French Cleaners after spilling BBQ sauce on it. My dress is silk chiffon, one of the trickier fabrics to clean, and BBQ sauce is notorious for it's dark, greasy stains. The owner was very nice, but also very honest about the difficulties of the fabric and the stain, which I appreciated. She started with dry cleaning the dress, which got the greasy part of the BBQ sauce out, but when I came back to pick it up the color of the stain was still there. She said the next option was to wash it, which would probably get the color out of the fabric. I loved that she waited for my consent to do anything else to my dress, and how she explained each step of the process to me so I understood exactly what they were doing. When I came back to pick it up, the stain was COMPLETELY gone. There is not a single trace of the BBQ sauce left on it. Furthermore, the charge for dry cleaning a dress is $12 (I guess a little pricey, but for your favorite items totally worth it!) and I was expecting to pay an additional couple dollars for washing the dress. She only charged me for the dry cleaning, which I thought was great. I brought another silk item to her a couple weeks later and again, it came out wonderfully. The French Cleaners is not the cheapest, but their service and results are fantastic and really can't be beat. The owner and employees are extremely friendly, and the results are consistently excellent. I'm moving to JP in a couple weeks, and I will gladly schlep it back to the South End just so they can dry clean all my delicate/ tricky clothes. read more

Two years, never a problem! The prices are probably not the lowest you can find in the city, but they are conveniently located and they are open 6-6 six days a week, so they get points for that. Best dry cleaner and launderer in the South End. Family-owned, community-oriented and friendly -- and I've never lost a shirt there! Prices are a little high and they don't do same day service, but I'd rather have faith that my stuff is going to come back pressed and clean. read more

Okay for me, I'm used to expensive (but quick) Anton's service. In the search for a better place in my neighborhood, closer, and easier, I found French. First off, the owner is super nice. They forgot to press (but cleaned) some pants and offered to do it right then and there, for free. Secondly, they replaced buttons Antons had crushed w/o me asking. Third, my shirts are clean and neatly pressed. Disadvantage? Usually 2-3 day service. I find, you just gotta be smart. Drop off in the morning Monday-Thursday, and you'll get it back 2 days later (sometimes Thursday = Friday return, but usually Saturday). Prices are, IMHO, not bad. Pants and shirts are average (I find the shirts below average prices). Overall, I think they do well. There's a price I'm willing to pay for service, location (not the back of a convenience store) cleanliness, good hours, and open on Saturdays. read more

Outstanding and professional customer service. I left 3 pairs of shoes for repair, including an unusual request given it was a high top sneaker. All came back looking close to brand new, I was completely satisfied and will now return with my dry cleaning. Always impressed with people who provide friendly professional service despite being in an industry that handles some pretty unpleasant products from customers that typically have no appreciation for the service provided. read more

The dry cleaning itself was good but service was sh*t--one of the front desk women (with all the heavy make-up) was not very friendly at all--borderline rude. And the price they quoted me (when I dropped off my items) was different from what they ended up charging me (at pick-up)... not cool. read more

When I needed a pair of pants altered quickly, they were able to get them back to me within 2 days. Not sure how the dry cleaning is.

This place is awful- often times i get shirts and pants back and it seems as if they did not do anything to them except get them more wrinkly. i sent in a shirt with a stain and each time they charged me different prices, seemingly making it up on the fly. Add to the fact it is extremely expensive, i would suggest heading else where. read more

I took my Burberry trench coat into have the cuffs and hem fixed. The tailor did an amazing job. The coat must have been incorrectly made since the interfacing had bunched up both in the cuffs and hem and had been this way since I bought it. He took apart the coat and fixed both issues beautifully! I highly recommend The French Cleaners. read more

I recently bought a dress from white house black market which I loved, but the straps were too long- damn you people with long torsos. Anyways, they are thick straps that are tailored to fit the shoulder and join in with the back panel, so I wasn't comfortable altering the dress on my own. I pined it where I wanted it and took it down to the French Cleaners. They did a great job with the alteration, didn't skimp on taking out the fabric (they made it fit exactly how I was hoping it would) and even sewed in a loop to hide a bra strap (very classy move, much appreciated!). The only thing was that the dress came back a bit more wrinkled than it left- it would have been a nice gesture to give it a little steam to release some of those wrinkles, but since the overall cost came in under what they had initially quoted me (just a couple dollars under), wrinkles are forgiven, I am capable of turning on my iron. I also did not ask or pay for it to be pressed so I really have nothing to complain about. I would definitely recommend this place for tailoring, they were very professional and did a great job. read more
