My girlfriend and I have been coming Here now for about a month now after we stopped in on our first visit. The store is great, lots of South African groceries to choose from. We have been eating in the restaurant every visit, and we haven't had a bad experience from the food, or owners yet, (I don't expect to either.). My new favorite is the, "bobotie," and my gf likes the mince stew a lot! Bobotie has a meatloaf flavor and a bit of a sweetness from what looked like raisins. It's delicious regardless. Their breakfast is great as well! The biltong, (jerky) is a great snack to purchase, if you eat every 3 hours like I do. It'd make a good stocking stuffer around Christmas for your family and friends, if you might not know what to get anyone. All of their products in the shopping center would be Great gifts this holiday season. We will continue to come here weekly to eat, shop, and chat with the owners. They're very friendly, helpful, and make great food! Awesome bakery as well. Their loafed bread is light, fluffy, and scrumptious. It's always good to support your small businesses. Especially Anton's, the customer service is excellent and you will notice it as soon as you walk in. This was my first time here and they were gracious enough to explain the various items available. Anton's is slightly off the beaten path from the more well known strip of restaurants in Roanoke but is worth a visit. Don't let my three stars throw you off - I can be a critical critic, haha! The family run business is wonderful. Anton is a one man show in the kitchen so at times, not all things are available or sold out. The food is tasteful, but we had a hard time distinguishing the flavors. The bread was great and you can tell extreme care is used in making all of the desserts too. Out of all the items, I think we liked the Chicken Masala the best. Again, go try it for yourself. What a gem! This was my first time to venture into South African cuisine. We had the fried biscuits (small) with meatballs, and it was my favorite thing. We also had the cottage pie as well. So good! Came here for lunch with some coworkers to give it a try and we. regret. nothing. We started off with their Slap Fries and they really were thick! Tasted like quality potato and was topped beautifully with the right amount of salt. They also give you a cup of what looks to be like ketchup but is actually tomato sauce - chef's kiss. You'll have to see for yourself. For the main dish, my coworkers went with bobotie and lamb curry bunny chow while I tried out their beef stew with mashed potatoes and a side of their bread. The meat was so tender, it literally melts in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were hearty and the bread was perfect for scooping/cleaning off the plate. I left no crumbs behind. Oh, and the owners were kind enough to let us try their biltong which was also amazing. Afterwards we walked over next door to their market for desserts. We left with a box of creamy mint tea, a bottle of tomato sauce, a cinnamon roll, melktert, malva cups, and like two other things that I don't remember - BUT, I just had a malva cup and it is the sole reason why I am on here at 11 PM leaving a review. I don't remember what it is but it seemed to be a cake with pudding on top. Whatever it is, it was heaven on earth. It was dense, moist, and perfectly sweet. I told myself to save the other half for tomorrow but I couldn't stop eating it because it was so good. I've yet to try the melktert but I'm sure it'll be just as amazing as everything I've had so far. I definitely will be back to try the rest of the menu. Excellent array of delicious dishes from south of the equator. I had the Cheese & Mince and it was fantastic. Sorta like an exotic sloppy joe. The first time I went to Anton's was to attend a mom meetup. Nicole was an amazing host. My daughter had so much fun playing with the other kids. Let me start by saying that the biggest turnoff for me is the amount of styrofoam and disposables used here. I came in for breakfast, never having African food before I went in and asked for a recommendation. I had a plain scone, coffee,a lemon cream tart and the "mince, eggs and mushroom breakfast" (my mistake was not asking for a description of what mince is). I assumed it would be some sort of minced meat with spices or something of sort. They were out of mushrooms, so they offer to substitute it for cheese which was fine by me. When the plate arrive I got scrambled eggs with cheese and two pieces of bacon, for $5.00 my expectation was something more substantial. The bacon was hard to cut with plastic cutlery on a styrofoam plate. The scone is $1.75 and it is pretty good, it was freshly baked and the texture is amazing. The tart $4.00 was a bit pricey in my opinion, but overall is also very tasty and rich enough to share or save half of it for later. read more

I've never had South African cuisine before but I was delightfully surprised when I bit into vetkouk with jam and butter. I also had lamb curry with rice along with Natalie's strawberry lemonade. I ordered a dozen banana muffin bites to go for an after school snack for the kids. The place is small but went it for a late lunch which wasn't crowded. Anton himself offered suggestions and made sure everything was alright. The most unique restaurant in the Unique Dining Capital of Texas. I've never been to SA, but all the signs point to authentic: the menu is full of things I've never seen before, even though I've traveled quite a bit, and each time I've been there either Africans are eating there or picking something up. Also, unlike anything we Texans are used to, they run out of food. Everything is made from scratch, like cafes in much of the rest of the world, so you need to get there early or call to reserve if you're in the mood for something in particular. Personally, I enjoy the adventure of having to try something new. So far, I've enjoyed everything. The meatballs with tomato and onion are very good for lunch with a side, or surprisingly well paired rolled inside the thick crepes they call pancakes. The mince meat appears to be the SA version of picadillo. It's also very good for lunch with a side, or in a fried bun, which they make fresh every morning. That's the other thing that's really surprising about this place, it's also a bakery. When I traveled to Europe and New Zealand, I always enjoyed the pastries filled with meat. This place scratches that itch if you're looking for that kind of thing stateside. The number of unique, high quality, freshly made items is a little overwhelming. I tend to eat too much when I go. Last time I ordered a meal, then had to try this "sandwich" they make with a homemade loaf of bread filled with curry. I could eat that several times a week for lunch. Hopefully, I'll learn to eat a reasonable amount when I visit, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. In fact, I ate breakfast and lunch there on the same day last week. read more

Great fresh market with fantastic food options. The market has a lot of food pantry products, bread, etc. with better ingredients than you'll find in your local chain stores, so if you're looking for a spot (think little sprouts but better) that has quality items including fresh meat to take home and cook near Roanoke this is your place. The cooked food here is also fantastic with the biltong (my kids love it...think beef jerky but better), meat pies, savory lamb minced, breakfast omelettes, bobotie, all are fantastic. When it comes to service it feels like an extension of home when you're there. If you're in DFW you need to stop in and experience the food, service, and the store it won't disappoint. read more
