We recently enjoyed a very good dinner at Aoyu Sushi. Two of us shared the Chef's Super Omakase (sashimi/ sushi combo for two). It was worth the splurge. The quality of fish was much better than I had experienced here a while back. Our fellow diners enjoyed their cooked dishes, but they tasted our sushi/ sashimi and felt it outshined their entrees. One of the best sushi meals I've ever had and I've been to many of the most expensive places in both LA and Vegas. If you're a true sushi lover get the Supreme Omakase. It's just sublime. Fresh, melts in your mouth. The Toro is incredible. I've had far more expensive sushi of lower caliber. I typically don't eat mackerel because it's usually too fishy for me, but the mackerel on the omakase plate was wonderfully mild and much like yellowtail. We'll definitely be back! read more

Hands down best sushi in the Bronx! This is our go-to sushi restaurant for weeknights since we live fairly close. The fish for the omakase is airlifted from the Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, Japan. Having been to the Tsukiji Market in person and eating at multiple sushi restaurants in Japan, I feel confident recommending Aoyu. The omakase for two people is what we normally order. The only downside is that the omakase is usually pretty similar each visit with maybe one or two pieces changing. The rolls are good too if you like less traditional sushi. My favorite roll is the fantastic roll. They have naruto rolls that are good too if you don't want rice (cucumber outside instead). We've liked all the appetizers that we have tried: the yellowtail tartar, the lobster tuna roll, maguro avocado, and the truffle blue fin toro. The service here is excellent. Also, make sure you order the fried green tea ice cream. The outside shell is a flaky tempura topped with whipped cream and a berry. Green tea ice cream is my favorite and there's is especially delicious with the tempura outside texture! read more

Good sushi and omakase is decent for the price and good portion. I however don't recommend the duck ramen. It's not worth 20 bucks for what it was. Was expecting something amazing but it was like a priced up version of the duck egg noodle soup you could get in "BO KY" nyc chinatown for around $10 and tasted 90% like it, duck and broth and everythin. Returned last night to My absolute favorite Sushi spot in Riverdale... the Bronx! The fish is ALWAYS fresh. They will never serve you any sushi that they can't guarantee is super fresh. On occasion I will have a hot entree... I have not been disappointed. And, if you've read any of my reviews, you'll know that hospitality matters to me just as much as the food. They always honor special requests (for example I ordered the omakase and said I didn't like mackerel or white fish and asked for no scallions, and they obliged), delivery is speedy and friendly, and they remember you when you call (okay, I may or may not order from here every Friday). My husband and I decided to try this place last Saturday for lunch. Immediately upon walking in, we were greeted with friendly waitstaff. It wasn't very busy because of the time (it was around 3pm), so we got seated right away. Everything that we ordered was delicious! From the miso soup to the rolls, it all tasted fresh, especially the salmon. They were also generous with their portions, but it wasn't too much. Overall, this was a solid place. The food is very good. this review is mainly based on the delivery service we have had the last few times. I've never been to the place but we would normally order for delivery because the food is really good in comparison to others. Recently the delivery guy has become extremely rude especially to the students asking for a tip and holding your order back as if he won't give you your food without it. We all work and want good food so we will tip for good food and good service, but don't demand it from me without even giving me my order. Give me my food, let me check that my order is correct and then you get a tip!!! Don't demand a tip from me! That's basis for you losing a tip! read more

Cute place in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Another great spot for a date night or just to catch up with a friend. Quite & intimate. We had a great waiter. The sushi was fresh & faboulous. I love the fact that they had wine. I had a Pinos Griot. As far as parking, someone was just pulling out so I was really lucky to find a spot & it was a Monday night. That street is very popular with all the restaurants on that strip so I sense it will be difficult to find parking on a Friday night. I ordered sushi for lunch on a really bad, cranky, craving day...I call this PMMS (Please Make Me Sushi) Their lunch special was plenty, I ordered the sushi platter, which came with 5 pieces of sushi and a cali roll. Everything was fresh and they do add wasabi to under the fish and rice so FYI. It also came with miso soup and a side salad, very very good dressing, reminds me of my old job at edo's in westchester where the ginger dressing is hearty and homemade! LOVE IT. I also wanted to try their uni, although I'm such a snob about uni and I had bad experiences twice with eating it, so I was a little sketchy..I ordered one piece to try it and it was super fresh, check out my uni pic, sorry peeps, I picked on it first lol I couldn't resist. I am definitely a fan. My Bff and I get take out all the time. The food is consistently good. would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good clean Japanese food. They deliver as long as your total is over their minimum. The delivery time is pretty fair yet we live around the corner from them. This place is good for sit in lunch or dinner or take out. They have delicious miso soup, teriyaki chicken, & sushi rolls. I typically order the pink lady. Which has a little bit of a spicy kick which I love. I was meeting some friends in Riverdale. We were trying to decide on a neighborhood place to have dinner, and I saw this restaurant on a Yelp list of top ten restaurants in Riverdale. I am glad to confirm that the good reviews are pretty much spot on. It took us a while to get there, and we were pressed for time. We told this to the waitress, who said, "No problem." The service was quick and efficient. I wish I had asked the waitress for her name, because she was very nice. My friend got a veggie udon which looked great, and, according to her, tasted as great as it looked. I ordered a salad and sashimi. The salad was decent. The sashimi was wonderfully presented. It looked too beautiful to eat, but I did. The fish was fresh and delicious. The place is a bit narrow, but not cramped. The décor is nice, and you get to see the sushi chefs do their work. The prices, while a bit cheaper than in Manhattan, were pretty much on par with other Japanese restaurants. If you are driving into Riverdale, just a warning: the parking situation is not great. It took us a while to find a spot, and the main streets have metered parking. In a way we were lucky that it took a while, because we parked only a short bit before 7 PM, so we really didn't need to feed the meter that much. I added this place to my bucket list of places to go to & it was a good idea. They are very accommodating with the customers, & the restaurant was clean. As soon as I got to the place it was actually closed. Please make sure you know that they close at 3:30 pm & then reopen at 5 pm-11 pm on Saturday's. It was pretty cold, but the wait was worth it. As soon as the restaurant reopened I went in, & everything on the menu seemed so good I couldn't decide. So the young man that was taking my order recommended that I start off with a warm drink & I ordered a hot green tea (which was very refreshing) then I gave him my order for shrimp shumai, spicy seafood & tuna roll. The soup and shumai arrived first following with the tuna roll, that arrived 10 minutes later. The food was nice and warm & the atmosphere was Anice. I've waited to give this review because I'm torn between the four and the five. I've given much fewer of the latter. But this place deserves the five. One of the main reasons is the warmth I'm greeted with each time I enter. That's key. They provide you with a hot towel to clean your hands. The service is prompt, and they don't rush you with your dinner. The dishes I've had are hit or miss, but that's a taste issue rather than a freshness issue. The food here tastes fresh.
