Take out review: I'm really impressed with the quality of their delivery food. This is the first time I ever order from this place but it won't be the last! Nice atmosphere, staff was friendly and attentive even when we went on a busy Friday night. Nice, warm towels moisturized our skin and warmed our hands from the cold night. Steaming hot green tea made our insides warm. Got the Sushi Deluxe (with extra shrimp and salmon), Party Girl Roll, Miso Crusted Salmon, edemame and green tea ice cream (our waitress even offered up extra spoons when dessert was ordered in case we all wanted to share). Everything tasted of good quality although the spice promised in my party girl roll was not apparent to me. It was still delicious, but not the full taste I expected. Wonderful place, tasty sushi. Keep coming back for the spicy tuna roll and the yellowtail tuna with scallions or with jalapeños. We like the miso soup as well quite a lot. Tried the mushroom soup once, nothing impressive. I think the amount of food that one gets is absolutely appropriate and well sized for the amount of money. Unlike other yelpers, I do not find the prices steep, rather affordable. Dining experience is pleasant as waitstaff is quite attentive. Went here the other night with some friends. Overall, I wasn't too impressed. The restaurant itself isn't too large - it was a bit stuffy, and crowded on a Saturday night. I had a Kani salad, and was very very disappointed. The salad was mostly lettuce and some crab. Anywhere else, the same salad is all crab meat and not lettuce. The sushi deluxe was OK - the sushi didn't seem as fresh as it should. And on top of it, some rolls had wasabi mixed in them, something I've never seen done at any other sushi restaurants. I'd be willing to try this place out again but we'll see. read more

Been here twice now, first time I didn't remember if I liked it or not, so not memorable. Went again today after a couple of months and it's just mediocre... The one thing I can say is it's overpriced for what you get. I got salmon the second time and the flavors weren't really great, pepper over everything (on Japanese food?) and really it's just not worth the cost. I give it 3 stars because it wasn't awful but it wasn't good, my suggestion is keep your money and spend it on something you really enjoy. ** Edit knocked this down to two stars after trying the sushi which had just one huge chunk of cucumber that took up a fourth of the roll. Back again with another review this one is for Auyo sushi in the riverdale section of the bronx we were greeted by our server and she gave us hot towels ( i was expecting this) when we were sat the place was empty 20-30 minutes later the place got packed and 5 tables were sat. For starters my girlfriend got rock shrimp her fav and i got spicy seafood soup (not that spicy, just little pockets of heat) the soup was filled with scallops,muscles and jumbo shrimp both were very tasty now on to the main course *drum roll* the sushi we had four rolls this time around the American dream Fancy roll Volcano roll Golden lobster the ones with the caviar were amazing as well as the mango cover roll (first roll at top of picture) overall this place is a little pricey we spent about 80 bucks or so overall this place gets a thumbs up from me nice neighborhood 2 the parking situation can get a little sticky tho bring quarters read more

Horrible sushi. The restaurant uses decent ingredients but the way they go about making the sushi is horrible. The ratio of rice and fish doesn't match and I told the waiter tell sushi chef to make the sushi with small portions of rice but they still put 10 times the amount of the rice compared to fish. Sushi tasted like mushy rice and the amount of vinegar in the rice was awful. At the end of mediocre meal I ask waiter why so much rice and I over heard chef saying "that's the Chinese way if you don't like the rice then order sashimi next time" speaking in Chinese. When I heard them talking in Cantonese dialect realized I shouldn't been there at first place. read more

Aoyu sushi is my favorite Johnson Avenue restaurant. The staff is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is very clean. The sushi is excellent. Properly cut and chilled. Try a glass of plum wine, it's delicious. I've tasted most of the menu, including bento boxes and special rolls, and nothing has ever disappointed. Who the hell eats a peanut and avocado roll????? I called to say they messed up my order and received a "ok what do you want me to do?" ..... Beyond rude. I'm sorry. I wanted to like it, but the ramen tasted like it came out of a bag, as did the gyoza. The sashimi combo was strictly OK, but some of the pieces, including the tuna and yellowtail, weren't well-thawed. Sashimi should never have the texture a freaking apple slice! Best sushi I've found in the Bronx so far. I come here for lunch pretty often - service is always quick, fish is always fresh, and the green tea always unlimited. For $10 you get 2 (8) piece rolls, a salad and miso soup...really can't beat it. I'm a big fan of the spicy red snapper roll and shrimp avocado roll. Been here twice in the past month. Once for lunch and once for dinner. Three of us ordered the Lunch Special Rolls and picked 2 rolls each giving us a broad assortment to share. Dinner last night was stunning. To explore the place we ordered 4 salads, the appetizer size of black cod (divine) and some cut rolls. On a Monday night the place is very serene. My friends, who have eaten in EVERY high-end Manhattan restaurant, loved it. And, I got to eat the peanut avocado roll again. Next time I'm going for the omakase. Very good sushi, and definitely the best in the neighborhood. There aren't many restaurants in Riverdale to begin with, and this is one of my favorites. I usually get the sushi/sashimi combination and the fish is always fresh and tasty. They have a lot of options and specials if you want to get pieces a la carte, and the staff is happy to let you know what they just got in. I like that there are often straw mushrooms in the miso soup. Service is friendly and they check up on you often (maybe too often, sometimes). They have a large selection of special rolls that are really good too. I have noticed that one of the sushi chefs (perhaps in training?) sometimes cuts the fish a little unconventionally; the weird cuts often add an unusual texture to the fish. It doesn't bother me but it might bother some people. read more

I had organized a group outing to Wave Hill on a Saturday morning and we didn't realize it was that small, so after 2 hours we were done and what's a good activity for group of Asians? why, eating of course! Trusty yelp gave us this sushi restaurant at ~1mile away, so I called and confirmed that they can accommodate all 11 of us and after the woman checked with someone, we were confirmed for 12:30! We got there and found free on-street parking (not metered) about 2 blocks away, and were seated immediately! YAY~~ AC and ice cold water felt so good after walking under sun in a park for 2 hours. We were delighted to find that the lunch menu is available on Sunday and most of us got the chirashi bowl $15 and some got other items from the extensive lunch menu. Lunch comes with soup AND salad. YES, both! The salad was a healthy portion too. The food arrived quickly and the chirashi bowl was filled with 10 slices of various sashimi (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc) and 2 shisho leaf and ginger and radish strings. The fish was fresh and relatively thick and rice was warm. Friend got the sushi and sashimi mix and that looked really good too but was a bit more expensive. We were quite loud since we haven't seen each other in a while but the restaurant was completely fine. I can't remember if the water was refilled but i might have been very focused on the food. Didn't have any desserts, so can't comment. Restaurant was bright and clean and although the restaurant looked small, it was spacious enough for us not to feel cramped.
