On March 9th, 2026 White Mechanical installed a new Lennox furnace for us.  We were offered an…read moreelectrostatic air filter option with the Costco purchase, but we declined that expensive option. The installation proceeded as expected and the installer did a very clean and professional job.   However, we asked the installer to demonstrate how to replace the air filter, we were dismayed at the complexity of the replacement.  We must remove the outside cover, then using a special tool, remove the interior cover to access the filter. Then, making sure we do not disturb any of the loose wires nearby, we then remove the filter hold-down bracket with the special tool and swap filters. Then carefully replace all the parts & panels in reverse order until restored.   I was dismayed at the complexity of the furnace filter exchange, as the other Lennox furnace we have has a simple door, allowing the filter to be changed in 10 seconds, instead of 10-15 minutes, requiring a special tool. See attached photo.  I must admit it, it was my expectation to receive a simple way to replace the filter with the new furnace, being the best brand on the market with a rather expensive install.  White Mechanical offered to install a simple filter box below the furnace, so we can swap filters quickly like downstairs, but the quote was $1,100 more, almost as much as the electronic filter we rejected due to the cost. White Mechanical also offers an annual service program with the first year free, including a filter change. However, after the first year, the annual cost would likely be several hundred dollars. I can't help but wonder if the filter issue isn't part of a scheme to create an annual gravy train in service fees. I am also puzzled by the Lennox warranty requirement of annual inspections, which could invalidate future warranty claims, if not followed. Talk about teaming-up against the customer.

I spoke with John - no rushed phone call, even on a holiday! John came to my house within a day or so, again it was a holiday weekend. John reviewed all of options in detail - he was professional, knowledgeable, polite - everything you hope for when working with a larger expense for your home and don't know a lot about it! Leo (main installer) was amazing - hard working, accommodating, and very knowledgeable! Poor guy was in my attic, which felt like it was 120+ degrees, for hours! I did recently reach out for a for a service call out. I wanted to discuss a few other options that were originally discussed but at the time I waited on. Gabby took care of scheduling me - great customer service, polite, and considerate of my request and needs. Martin came out to address my later service call request, he was on time, professional and informative. I had a bit of a touchy situation where a rodent got into my AC condenser outside and I had no clue how to manage it. I use Thumbtack to find a couple of contractors, and the first company came out and quoted me over $3K to clean my condenser and cleanup my air ducts, and tried to scare me into a $10K revamp of the entire system in my attic saying that the air quality was harmful to our health. I was a bit weary and decided to get a second opinion... Sydney contacted me from One Season, and assured me that they would be able to take a look and take care of the situation. She was extremely kind and understanding given my concerns. Aubrey was my technician and as I mentioned above, was just amazing. Helped me with disposal of the critter, cleaned out my entire AC condenser and told me he would include it with diagnostic fee, which technically he didn't have to do since the system was still working, so he applied that fee to the clean up. He still took everything apart and did an inspection and checked everything out for me to make sure it was running properly. Was very informative and educational and told me signs to watch out for as my system is approaching 20 years old. Did a full inspection of my attic system and did point out some things that I might want to take a look at in the future, but never once tried to push a sale, install, or upsell anything. As is normal with any maintenance company, he did introduce their maintenance plan to me which I welcomed since I know my system is aging. And upon signing up for the annual maintenance plan, he actually waived my diagnostic fee... so he didn't even charge me for my service call! I mean my mind was just BLOWN! Rodent gone... Check! AC condenser clean... Check! AC in good working order... Check! Things to watch for... Check! Peace of mind... CHECK!! I went from a $3000 scare tactic quote saying the air quality in my home being harmful to my family's health to an honest assessment of my home's system, and what I could expect in the next few years given the age of the system. We called Capistrano Air and they scheduled a visit for today. They said it would be $95 just to come out for the inspection and the cost would be absorbed or waived if any work needed to be done. Jorge came out, listened to what happened, went up to the attic to inspect the furnace and found a fuse that had blown out. He replaced the fuse and was done within 15 - 30 minutes. Done. $145 out the door. I wondered if he could check our air conditioning unit to do any maintenance on it (which is what so many people say MUST be done once a year), and Jorge said that is not necessary. He said our HVAC unit is working fine and should be fine for the next 10 - 15 years! He said that the only "maintenance" that needs to be done is to replace the filters once a year (which is what we do anyway).
