Lovely staff, best Caesar salad I've had in a long time, and incredible pizza that I think might be at the top of my list at the moment. Overrated with an Attitude. "we are filled now" come back in a half hour. Half hour goes back they DONT RECOGNIZE us. We waited another 25 minutes and said heck with this. Ordered quite a variety, cocktail, lovely full carafe of the house Pinot Grigio, appetizers (the carcifi alla giudia! fantastic) respectable but slighly underdone arancini, but the sauce was zing a ling bam boom! My companions loved the bread, me just the crust, but the olive oil and olives did me fine. Our main dishes! superbo! my eggplant parmigiana, a healthy portion, silky as sex, cheesy and tangy. it was just what i was craving, their pasta and that pizza...baci to the chef. such a light hand, flavourful, crisp and fresh! plus a perfect caesar salad albeit a bit less pungent than i prefer. plus dessert! pistachio gelatio! and they loved the tartufo. My family and I came to eat dinner here on a Saturday night at around 5:00 after a day of hiking. Our first mistake was coming here hungry, our second was coming here at a high volume time. There was only about 2-3 servers and it took 30 minutes before we even got our drinks. We had to ask twice before receiving bread and it took them a good 40+ minutes before we received it. Don't get me wrong the bread was amazing! Very delicious, soft, fresh and flavorful. Outstanding quality olive oil was served with it, they even through in some packaged mini breadsticks. We received the house salad after about an hour. It was very delicious and a good size to share! The peppers and mushrooms were my favorite part. And the dressing was very tasty!! Once we finally received our pizzas one of them had a minor mistake but they made us another one to make up for it :) The pizzas were very delicious and well made but I personally do wish they would have added more sauce to the vegetable pizza especially since we ordered it without cheese. They gave us sauce on the side when we asked and that made up for the dryness. Overall amazing food but the service needs work. I understand they are making everything from scratch and this is absolutely not a fast food restaurant so maybe seating less people and/or having more servers can help this. Pizza was decent for the area. Would give 3.5 stars. Despite being called Apizza and being coal-fired, don't mistake it for New Haven style (though, to be fair, they don't seem to be claiming that). We had takeout. Probably better fresh at the table. read more

Second time ordering a pizza here. First time about a year ago. It was ok. Second time, it was bad. The pizza crust is hard and seems industrial. The mozzarella is rubbery and clearly not good quality. I would not recommend it. I can't understand all the positive reviews. We threw the pizza in the garbage. A shame. read more

For you and me that means there is nary an off night; there is no B team at Apizza. Every pie twirls off Adam's well-apprenticed, 00-dusted fingers. This guy LIVES to do his thing and that thing is making knee-bucklingly delicious pizza all the damned day long. That massive brick oven, crammed into the front of the house, is his muse (you get the feeling if it wasn't for Lauren he might sleep nestled up against it every night). Their restaurant is a fine-dining establishment masquerading as a humble, neighborhood mom-and-pop. It's both. Eat here. The thin-crusted, slightly chewy, mostly crispy pizza, foremostly. But also: If it's on the specials menu, whatever it is, try it. It will actually be special, especially if it's a vegetable. read more

First let me say that we are pizza lovers and have been all over... rubirosas and John's of bleeker street in NYC Sally's and Frank Pepe's in New Haven, and Regina's in Boston (plus others) looking for the perfect pizza pie. This was top 3! The meatballs with fresh ricotta were hands down the best I've ever had!! My man talked the whole dinner about how they tasted like his grandfather's and now we have to go back with his entire family and how his mom will cry when she tastes one. The sauce and fresh ricotta were like nothing I've ever tasted outside of a non-Italian home before. The pizza.... finally a spot in the husdon valley that can make a pizza!!!!! The perfect crunch to the crust, the ratio of cheese to sauce get a medium or large as getting a small wouldn't even make sense. We went on a Thursday at 830 and there were only 2 empty tables in the place if that says anything. We had a front row seat to the guy throwing pies and working his magic. When I come to New Paltz, I make sure I'm there when Apizza is open. Unfortunately, do to their inept service, I wasn't able to have a pizza. I arrived on Father's Day. They were very busy. They weren't able to tell me what the wait would be. I left my name and number and came back after 1/2 hour later. When I came back, they were so disorganized that the woman there didn't have a clue who I was. I waited and then left. Hopped in last night right before the main rush without a reservation. They sat us which was great. Cool vibe and a great smell when entering. It was immediately clear they were either super short staffed or not ready kitchen wise for the dinner wave. We waited almost a total of 2 hours, from sitdown until bill came. Had a great pizza there today. It was super fresh and the coal fired oven gave it a unique flavor. They did a nice job with the Buffalo wings too. The place was really clean inside and the staff was very nice and seemed eager to make and retain their customers. Looking forward to going back and eating in person. Starting this review last night, I was going to give a 4 out of five stars even though we were told it would be 15-20 minutes for our food, and we ended up waiting for 50 minutes... But, this morning, the review greatly changed. I invited my boyfriend who I barely get to see, to New Paltz for dinner. We decided on Apizza because of the amazing reviews and, well, word-of-mouth. Even though we greatly waited, and the food was great, my boyfriend and I both woke up with food poisoning. We didn't eat anywhere together all day, and for the past week, except for Apizza, so not surprising that we found the culprit quite easily... I wish I could have nicer things to say. We went to Apizza in New Paltz this evening on the recommendation of friends. They were busy when we arrived so we ordered our drinks and food right away. It took a good ten minutes for the drinks to arrive. After 40 minutes we asked for bread as none had been offered. Our salads and most of the apps arrived about 90 minutes after ordering and the main courses, along with the last app arrived a full 2 hours and ten minutes after ordering. All unacceptable by any standard. The staff was apologetic but unable to change anything. The whole experience spoiled what was a good meal. Until they learn how to manage the business better, I strongly recommend that you avoid this place during peak hours. read more
